Problems galore!

I'm wondering if anyone else is having these issues and if there is a way to fix them.
1. The notes application now often deletes what I recently wrote in my notes. I'll write something out, go to my home screen, go back into the note and everything I wrote is gone. Sometimes it will even disappear when the note is still open! Other times, it will delete what was on the note and a few minutes later I get an email from myself, containing what I had written in the note. It's weird!
2. The photo gallery often has to "rebuild" and when it's done, all of my photos and videos are in disarray and are no longer arranged by date. This is a big pain and as far as I know, there's no way to fix it.
3. Pretty much any and all videos over 2 seconds are unable to be sent via email. Is there anywhere I can go to lower the quality settings? I know I can use the front facing camera, but even so, the videos end up being gigantic.
4. I often get a "No sim card" message and have to restart the phone to get service again.
5. The battery definitely does not seem to last any longer than the 3GS... is anyone else having a different experience with this?
Nothing major, just little bugs (not that the video thing is a bug) that I'm wondering about. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.

Photos are arranged in the date they were taken, not the date they were modified or by file name.

When you select a video to e-mail, at the time of sending you are given the choice of what compression level you would like to use.
What error are you receiving?

Take out your SIM and re-insert it again

Try turning of "Push" or setting it to 30 min. or 1 hr.

  • Two iphones on one itunes account...problems galore..help wanted!!

My wife and I both have an iphone and are delighted with it except for this problem..
I bought mine first (phone 1), set up itunes and had no problems, it synced nicely, i downloaded music etc and ll was going well... the App store also work fantastically... my wife, based on my success (and the fact that her nokia N97 was pants) decided to get herself an iphone (phone 2). When signing up the contract in store we were told that "just, plug the phone into the laptop if you already have itunes and itunes will reognise it as a second device and act accordingly...." WRONG!!!
What actually happened was that the new phone, synced with itunes with all my details and lost all of my wifes phone numbers she had entered onto it, it got worse, after deleting all the numbers that she didnt want and putting her phone book back as she wanted it, she synced it again, this time itunes took the details from her phone and stored them in itself, next i came along and synced my phone and lost all my work numbers, all my music too and ended up with my wifes details.... Now when i access the App store i have to enter her password.. sometimes.. sometimes i have to enter my own and sometimes neither will work and i cannot download anything at all. Its all become one big mess...
I want an expert to untangle this mess for us as, at the moment i no longer sync my phone at all for fear of losing all the details again so of course im not getting the most from my phone. I phoned teh geek squad and they said... when you start itunes just hold down the CTRL button as you launch it and it will start a second account... it did but im sure that has added to the problem.
Im no itunes expert but need this sorted to enjoy the device the way it was intended...
    Please help...

Sorry things haven't worked the way you expected. You can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, selecting under the various tabs what you want on each device and itunes will keep it all straight upon subsequent syncs. It appears you may not have properly selected what content you want on each device. To sort this out, start by reading this article on syncing. Most of your questions will be answered in that article. Post back after reading with specific questions related to specific content.

  • IMac 27" Problems galore

    I'm pretty much at my wits end with my 27" i7 iMac. Its the 4th iMac I've owned and the first to have any problems. The problem list is extensive and since I am a pro user is causing me a lot of heartache and loss of work;
*constantly grumbling hard drive (known complaint I believe)
*wireless keyboard gets disconnected randomly and quite often
*some programs - most often its itunes and logic pro - won't open. The logo bounces in the dock and then nothing. The only way I can get them to work is to restart my computer - a less than satisfactory solution.
*computer randomly wakes itself up from sleep
*when waking from sleep logic pro is often crashed and needs to be force quit.
*logic frequently crashes or runs out of memory even though I have a VERY fast machine running projects that my lesser iMacs had no problems with
*sometimes the computer refuses to shut down; even if there are no programs running
I am an experienced mac user and take good care of my machines - everything is up to date and I've tried all the troubleshooting advice I've been given by apple. Apple will not replace the machine without first replacing the HD - something that will be a gross inconvenience to me and is not guaranteed to work.
Does anyone have any fixes for any of the issues above?

    comprachio wrote:
ah right I follow now. To do that I'll either have to buy another HD or wipe my bootcamp HD:( Neither is an appealing option though.
I have two external drives for backup: One for Time Machine, one for SuperDuper!. I wouldn't think about doing otherwise, as they complement each other functionally. Regardless of your current issue, I (and I think most folks) would strongly recommend that you do indeed get a second external backup drive, for a clone backup (either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner). You may as well do that now, as it will then enable you to create the clone (as I said, I believe it's something that you really should have anyway) and use it to help diagnose your current problem. And if it turns out tht your internal drive is failing, it's much easier to use a clone than TM to recover everything to a new internal drive.
I got my iMac at the start of December 2009. HD is WDC WD1001FALS-40U9B0 which is identical to the HD in my last iMac (which didn't grumble or groan).
I thought perhaps it was an old platter. Guess not.
Personally, I never had much confidence in WD drives...but I know a lot of folks who simply love them. I used to think that Seagate was the only way to go. However, I've changed my opinion of Seagate of late. In fact, I don't think any of the drive manufacturers are currently building quality products: They've off-shored most of their production to second/third-rate assemblers and suppliers and, consequently, lost significant quality oversight and control. Mind you, that's simply my opinion, but if you mouse around the newsgroups and forums and read experience-based user opinions, you might arrive at a similar conclusion.

  • Album Art Problems Galore

So basically, I started having album art problems recently where the album art would appear correctly in my iTunes, but shows up on my iPod as a black square.
I was told to turn off album art and turn it back on, which helped, but then some of my album art just stopped showing up altogether (even though it's still visible in iTunes).
So I'm wondering what options I have? I was thinking about just completely wiping off all the album art and re-applying it; but #1, I don't know what the easiest way to wipe them off would be; #2, I don't know if re-doing all my album art will even fix the problem. With my luck, it'd have the same issue after I redid all my album art >.<

Not sure if this will be of any help but, if you're willing...
In itunes, convert the problem songs/albums' ID3 Tags to v2.3, even if they're already v2.3. (Right Click on song(s), on the menu that appears, "Convert ID3 Tags")
Then uncheck "Display Album Artwork on ipod", sync ipod. Then re-enable the "Display Album Artwork on ipod" again and sync it again.
Another possibility is that the artwork for those songs is, somehow, unpalatable with the ipod. If so, just get artwork from another source (amazon, wiki, etc.) on one or two songs (just to see if it works) and sync, see if it works then.
Don't know if these will work though. Good luck and keep us informed.

  • Font Problems Galor

I first noticed this problem in Pages, only one font would work, I would change to Times New Roman and nothing would happen, it would stay with the same font. Unfortunately I don't know which font this is, but ...moving on. Then I noticed all my fonts on my 'Stickies' in dashboard had been changed from 'marker' to some generic font. Somehow i fixed this by deleting lucidagrans directly from system/library/fonts and then putting it back in. This fixed all my problems, except when i restart the computer the problem is back. To try and solve these problems I went into Font Book and started fooling around I noticed that there are lots of duplicates of Lucidagrans Bold and regular so i tried disabling some of the duplicate. Note: they are listed two or three times, along with all having dots beside them. Disabling them causes the spotlight search bar in font book to type in random characters. Now my drop down menus in all applications are all incomplete and half impossible to read. All i want to do is RESET my fonts the way they were when i first got this computer, i never installed any fonts i dont know where this problem came from!

For a list of fonts that are installed by OS X, see here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332
You can dump everything in Home/Library/Fonts, as OS X installs nothing there. Also dump all copies of Lucida Grande.ttf, but do NOT remove Lucida Grande.dfont found in System/Library/Fonts.
Also clean your font caches with FontFinagler (use Google to find it).

  • Bugs and Problems Galore

I am so disappointed, I'm beside myself.
Dual monitor support I can wait, thought I'm not happy. I have two monitors, I'd like to make use of that real estate to expand the panels a bit so I can see everything. Scrolling the panels is a huge waste of time.
But batch processing is missing? Are you kidding me? Just about every event shoot I do, I need to run through Noise Ninja. I have no way to do that now.
What about batch actions? When I do a shoot with a model, I choose the RAW files I want to keep, adjust them, and then in Bridge use the "photo processor" to batch them into PSD and apply a few custom adjustment layers. I can then go into each PSD, do touch-ups as necessary. It's pretty rare that there isn't a keeper with a small wrinkle or pimple or even bruise or scratch that needs a touchup. Flyaway hairs need to be removed. Catchlights brightened. The list goes on. I have to do this one at a time in Photoshop now and can't batch it?
That pretty-much makes Lightroom useless for my workflow. I can't imagine a single fashion photographer who requires Photoshop to do any retouching would find this useful.
As for bugs... the strip at the bottom has some serious issues. When I delete a photo, it resets the strip back to the beginning. What a time-waster.
I can't delete multiple photos from the strip. Multi-select and then delete, and only the last one selected is deleted.
Select a photo, right-click on a DIFFERENT photo and choose delete, and the SELECTED photo is deleted, not the one right-clicked-on. I just trashed a keeper that way. Furthermore, if I multi-select a few photos in the strip, even if I then choose a different one to view, the file name and settings don't change - it keeps the information from the first photo in the multi-select. Making a change and presuming that the change is happening to the photo being viewed reveals that, no, the change happens to the first photo in the multi-select.
For some reason, when I sync up "develop" settings in a folder, I have to scroll the strip to get them to generate previews. Am I missing something? Shouldn't they all do their things and not require me to scroll through everything every time?
Why does it have to re-calculate the histogram EVERY SINGLE TIME, even when I don't make changes? It can't cache this data?!
I've not even gotten past working through "Library" and "Develop" and I'm already realizing that this product not only won't do everything I already do in Bridge, but will actually make my workflow TAKE LONGER.
    Color me seriously unpleased.

Okay, point in favor of LR, I can look at these while the import is going on. That's nice.
So it's better. Not perfect, but better. The histogram still recalculates every time, but that's an annoyance, not a hindrance.
Now, when moving to a new picture it's blurry but the non-blurry preview comes up sub-second.
But... this is in "library" mode. When I go to "develop," the problem is back. At least 4 seconds to get a real preview. When selecting a new photo (and I should note that the three dots are NOT there at any time), the sliders in the right panel, the tone curve, and everything else I can see is dimmed-out and unavailable. Within about 2 to 3 seconds they go live and the first refresh of the preview occurs. Then, about 2 more seconds later a second refresh occurs and the image comes into focus.
It is as if the program loads the original image, then loads the preview, THEN does any processing that the develop settings would indicate. That last step should be part of the preview and cached, of course. It appears that it is not.
The entire time, the "Loading..." label is shown underneath the main preview. It disappears after about a full 6 to 8 seconds.
So yeah, with all due respect to Adobe, not even close.

  • Problems galore with N 5800

After years of being a Sony Ericsson fan, I decided to try out my first Nokia and got the N5800 in March. It has been my worst experience. The phone freezes constantly. I have to wait several several seconds between actions. The response time is appalling and sometimes it just blacks out. Orange customer service told me to reset the phone which I have done along with several switch off/restarts over the days. Nothing has helped. It also seems to have  problems recognizing the caller numbers from my phone book. I have tried Orange customer service but they say although they have had several complaints, Nokia won't recall the phone nor acknowledge problems. Has anyone else suffered this fat and do you have any advice? I am trying to get orange to pick up the phone and replace it in the hope it is a one off problem with the handset I got.
    Otherwise any input gratefully received.
    thanks
    L

My best advice is to persist with Orange.  If three of the same handsets still don't solve your problem, it's then you can ask for a new phone - but ask every single time when you speak to handset faults.  Also consider asking for a small £10 credit each time you phone, as a goodwill gesture for stress and lost time.
In the meantime, every time you get a phone run Nokia Software Updater on your computer and check for updates for the phone.
I have a 5800 myself, and it was a bit quirky to start with.  Now I am on software version  v21.0.025 and I am much happier with the phone!
To check which software version you have, dial *#0000#.

  • Final Cut Express problems galore

It's hard to know where to start with regard to problems relating to Final Cut Express. How about this: the 3 simple steps for importing a project into FCE from iMovie, as set forth in the 'getting started' book, result in nothing more than a message telling me that the File is of the wrong type. And that's that. Not much to go on there. Any suggestions? Most of the other problems with 'getting started' - and there are quite a few - have resulted in masses of 'rendering' issues, complete with hundreds of numerals, decimal points, and acronyms which are entirely meaningless to me. Having spent years on iMovie 06 generating lots of highly edited movies, and enjoying every minutes, I gotta say that FCE is somewhat beyond daunting. Is there, perhaps, a book out there that would be useful to the likes of me? Something that begins: 1. Sit down at computer. 2. Turn computer on. 3. Launch Final Cut Express, and so on?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
FCE is a totally different animal compared to iMovie. It does have a steep learning curve, but there are good resources available and good people here to help you learn it. Once you have the basics down, it gets a lot easier. Here's what I'd recommend for learning FCE:
Tom Wolsky's Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop book and Final Cut Express Made Easy training DVD
Izzy Video's Learn Final Cut Express 4 videos (online, free)

  • IDVD Problems galore

So i just got my macbook last week, and decided to use all these i tools that everybody talking about. I like most of them so far except for Imovie and Idvd. imovie seems very buggy and crashes a lot, but useable.
IDVD on the other hand is a pain. I am able to make the project and all the changes in the program. Where it craps out is when i try to burn to dvd. First it takes like 3 hours to prepare my project. (I going to try a small file today to see if i can narrow down the problem) (Idvd file is like 2 gigs) Is that normal?
Also it always get the spining pinwheel when it starts to do the audio or burn to dvd. Then i get a not responding. I though maybe it a problem with the DVD so i try a disk image and it just craps out at the audio part when I do that. I have to do a Force close everytime. I checked online to see on some tips for fixing it. I tried using different media and also reinstalling QT. Anybody else got some suggestions?

    Hi Scott:
Make sure you have the latest updates to all of the iLife software.
Also, it can take a very long time to burn a dvd...and it may look like it 'crapped' out but it is busy encoding in the background.
You might want to try burning a DVD overnight to be sure it has enough time.
Anytime you force quit iDVD, you should find the iDVD preference files in the use library and trash those before attempting to burn again.
The files you need to delete are found in:
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist

  • IMac 24" Problems Galore . . . advice?

I just received my new IMac 24" with the Leopard disk included. While running the new machine with the pre-loaded Tiger, I noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Post-Leopard download is when the frustrations began. For instance:
    1. Chimes at start up were very quiet, almost muted. The volume settings on the machine were fine but the chimes were nearly non-existent. Not a huge deal but it was the first oddity I noticed.
    2. Boot-up time is ridiculously slow; I understand Leopard is "more complex" but the start up is triple in time compared to Tiger on my old IMac G5.
    3. ITunes: again, start up time is off the charts. It takes over a minute to begin. Granted, I have 5800 songs and a number of movies but compared to my former set up this is about ten times slower than it should be.
    4. SLEEP MODE: it will NOT wake up without a hard reset. This is the most disconcerting flaw in the machine. I know I am not alone and would be interested if anyone has overcome this glitch?
I spoke to AppleCare and I was unimpressed. I was told by the frontline guy that I would "need to replace the machine" and was elevated to the next level of service. I was put on hold for over an hour and ran out of time to sit and wait any longer. Disappointing experience with AAPL is my first and hopefully last.

That's not normal. Leopard boots in 25-30 seconds on my 2.16 GHz iMac.

Since Tiger ran without problems, it's not likely to be a hardware failure. Did the
AppleCare phone droid tell you why he thought "replace the machine" was in order?
Try clearing NVRAM and resetting the SMC. If that doesn't help, do a clean reinstall
from the Leopard DVD with the 'Erase & Install' option. It makes no sense to replace
the machine before eliminating the possibility of a software SNAFU.

  • Problems galore..DS lite, and laptop wont connect

Ok, today i tried to connect my DS lite and it told me it couldnt find the IP and then i tried to connect my laptop and my laptop gave me limited access (no internet)
By the way, i have my Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and my dad's computer all connected wirelessly and the main computer is hard wired to the router. I used a WEP code which when i entered i knew was correct was because i wrote it down. Anyway, if you have any ideas what may be preventing these items from connecting please let me know.
    WRT54G Ver 6 is what i have.
If need be, im going to reset my router back to square one

Hi… I would suggest you to provide static IP on DS lite and try the connection again. You may need to forward the port for the same IP address. Try the same with the laptop. If it does not work then check the WEP key once again from the setup page of this router. I think that’s what may be blocking the connection.

  • My daughter removed iTunes program from computer...problems galore! Help!

I got my 13 year old daughter an iPod Nano in March '06. Everything loaded and working fine...until last week. She downloaded something, an update of some sort, I assume. Now she cannot get music downloaded. She removed the the entire program and attempted to re-install it to no avail. Now we get an error message which reads: Internal Failure, error #0X80040707. What did she do? What can we do? Thanks, in advance.

I just installed the firmarware update on my Macbook Pro.
The *function keys* won't work even AFTER I select them in System Preferences.

This is normal. It can take a long time, and if this is your first time repairing permissions it can take a very long time. Ignore the time, it is useless. Typically it takes about 10 minutes, but it can take well over 40 minutes in some cases. Just let it run.
    I *can't restart* via Finder.
I don't understand. i restart by clicking the little black apple and selecting restart. I did not know you could restart via finder.

  • Apple ID Problems Galore     .

Ok. I have FINALLY found out how to post something. Thank god. So. I got a new Macbook pro, which is awesome, but then everything to do with my Apple ID went to -. I got to the point where I needed a verification code sent to my email(aol email, it worked completely fine for comcast and gmail when I made this account). Never got it. At one point I had to change my password cause apparently the one I've been using since 2004/2005 can't work anymore. Which I get, but it's MY password. Why would you care if I don't care myself how secure my password is? I digress. So I had to make a new Apple ID to post this here. Back to what I was saying. So I change the password and all of a sudden I can't sign in onto anything. I can't sign into Apple ID, Facetime(don't care but it pops up), iCloud(don't care but it pops up), etc. and when I go to update the 8 apps on my phone I get the same crap. And don't get me wrong, the fact that they disabled that account for me supposedly getting the password wrong like 26 time in a row (with 2 or 3 successful times) is completely awesome. So can I get everything onto this account now, is it worth trying to save my old account or can I just completely get rid of the Apple ID from my stuff? I use Apple ID only because I NEED to use Apple ID on my phone computer and ipod, I could care less about it honestly.
Also I have no idea as to what community to post this to cause all the options aren't the right ones for this.

  • Crazy problems after upgrading to Leopard.  Can you help?

I have a PowerMac G5, 1.8 dual processors. It came with 256MB of RAM, which I removed and replaced with 2GB of Crucial RAM soon after purchasing the computer nearly four years ago. I added a 250GB Maxtor hard drive to the 60GB original two years ago. I used the Maxtor drive for storage. Everything ran perfectly before Leopard and iLife ’08 installation.
Prior to installation, I cleaned off the 250GB Maxtor hard drive, and then installed Leopard to it using only the installation instructions on the disk. (FYI, I bought both programs from a local Apple store.) When prompted, I had it bring over the software and files from the original hard drive. My idea was to clean off the original, 60GB hard drive, and use it for storage. Due to problems galore, I have not done that.
When I waken my computer from an all-night Sleep mode, the following happens:
iWeb ’08 will load, but I cannot save anything to it.
Safari will load and immediately freeze.
Firefox will not load because it reports that it is already open.
Entourage will open initially, but then report it cannot open virtually any functions.
Word for Mac will open, but nothing can be saved.
iPhoto will open, but it cannot be used.
This is how it goes for every program—none are useable.
Though I attempt to use the Force Quit option, programs will not close. I am forced to do a hard quit—holding down the power button until the computer powers off. Upon reboot, all programs work fine. The trouble seems to occur after going into Sleep mode.
Just now I used the Disk Utility program, which upon completion, reported the following:
Verify permissions for “Whopper” (the name of the 250GB hard drive)
ACL found but not expected on “Library.”
    Permissions verification complete
    Repairing permissions for “Whopper”
ACL found but not expected on “Library.”
    Permissions repair complete
I am now running a test on the RAM, using Rember, as suggested in another thread. –All tests passed.
    So, there you have it.
    Suggestions?

You're not kidding, are you? Can I choose door number 2? To say that I'm disappointed and disillusioned would be insufficient. I've done precisely what I learned at a local Apple Store.
Sorry, I'm not kidding. But it isn't that big a deal. You are probably just frustrated and disillusioned based on your experiences with your flaky install. Try to remember how you felt about upgrading to Leopard before. That optimism is still warranted, with a little effort.
I'm sure Apple's official instructions work fine 99% of the time, but there is no way that Apple or anyone can guarantee an automatic upgrade. That is why Apple always says to have a good backup before any upgrade.
Would you translate what you instructed me to do? I don't know how to re-partition my original drive, nor do I know how to do a default MacOS X installation. It reads like I'm going to get a virtually naked machine, with none of the settings or files from before. Is that correct?
Yes. That is correct. You start with a naked drive and install everything from scratch. Your machine will be "as if" it came from the factory with Leopard installed.
You can boot off of the Leopard install DVD and run Disk Utility from the Tools? menu and delete partition on your "Whopper" drive. Then, return to the installer and just accept all the defaults. You don't have to worry about "upgrade install" vs. "archive & install". This will give you a fresh system.
Is it possible to wipe-out what I have done on the newer hard drive (250GB), and go back to the original 60GB drive? Is it possible to start again, or are the files on that drive now converted to the new? Does that make sense?
It would be ideal if you could throw away everything on the new drive. You can always copy off any new or modified files and restore those later. It sounds like you haven't been able to do much on Leopard anyway. It also sounds like you still have your 60 GB original, pre-leopard backup, which is a very good thing.
There may be some people who will tell you to do an "Archive and Install" to install a new 10.5. That will probably work too. You will have to resist the temptation to go into the archived area and just start copying files back. That would likely put you right back where you started. The same goes for any of the "migration" tools. For all I know, they work great 99% of the time. I've never tried them and I've had problems 0% of the time. The reason I always recommend a re-partition is because it guarantees you have a factory install. It makes restoring more difficult, but I consider that to be a good thing.
    Here is my recommendation:
    1) Make sure you have a backup of your current boot drive
    2) Boot from from install DVD
    3) Use Disk Utility to re-partition boot drive
    4) Reinstall MacOS X using default options
    5) Reinstall any applications
    6) Setup user environment the way you want
    7) Copy over your old user and data files into a quarantined location.
    8) While maintaining backups of your new preferences and settings files, selectively restore your old files. These are things like your old Address book, your old Mail folder, and 3rd party application preferences files that contain license codes, etc.
Step 1-5 will take a couple of hours. Step 6, 7, and 8 may take a few days to get sorted out the way you want.
