Problems importing footage

I've been using Cineform AVI files in Premiere for many years, and now, switching from CS6 to CC, I'm having trouble importing footage. It seems almost random, but it clearly isn't.
When attempting to import a bunch of files into a project, some of the files are rejected by Premiere CC as being "damaged or unsupported". Those same files do import without issues when a try importing them into a project in CS6.
What makes CC so much more finicky than CS6?
Is there a way to resolve this?
This is quite a major issue, as I'm rtying to import the footage for a feature. That's a lot of footage, and too much of it is rejected by Premiere CC, and there is not even a way to export the list of files that were not imported.
This really needs to be figured out.
I'd include an example file, but those are quite large.
please advise.
Thanks,

While asking here might get you some help (if anyone HAS any help to offer) you also need to send Adobe a bug report

Have you checked with Cineform to see if they have an update for CC?

  • Problem Importing Footage into AE CS5.5

I'm having problems importanting 'avi' video from my Vado HD into AE CS5.5 - the videos playback just fine in Windows Media Player but when imported into After Effects the clip is greyed out & only the audio track is available. I can't understand the problem as the codec must be installed for the Media Player to play the files & I have checked this by loading the footage into GSpot with this result: Codec H264. Name H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. Installed. Really hope some one can help me with this.

Thank you for all your help Mylenium.
I'd already tried MPEGStreamclip with no joy - loads the footage in much the same as AE does [greyed box] & couldn't figure a successful way to convert it.
I was baffled by the wall of text relating to ffmpeg & couldn't figure out how to install/run it let alone convert any footage.
SUPER©  was the golden nugget - not much trouble to install & find enough reference online to successfully convert my footage - many thanks.

  • Problem importing footage in AECC

Hi, i'm running AECC in a PC, and when i import footage i can't view the image but the audio works fine. But if i import the same footage in CS5.5 works fine i can see the audio and video and everything it's ok. Help please!, Thanks

Version of AE including the point number??? OS version?? Kind of footage?
There have been some changes in the codecs that have caused some problems. Without details on your system I can only guess that your software is not up to date or that your source footage is a non-standard codec, or that you have installed some 3rd party software or drivers that are conflicting with QuickTime or other video software on your system.

  • An odd problem importing footage...ideas please!!

I'm having an odd problem with iMovie that has me stumped so far. I'm currently using a borrowed DVcamcorder to import my footage. So far I can only import footage that was taped using that exact camcorder. I have other footage, (also miniDV format) that was created on a different camera, and it won't import properly. It comes out very jumpy, almost as if the frame rate is off or it's not scanning the fields properly, playing only every other one. The camera also gives me a "clean heads" message that only appears when I try to use the "foreign" video. The heads don't need cleaning, and I've checked the frame rate. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm lost so far!!
I'm using an iMac G5, with iMovie HD.
    Thank-you!

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions!
It may be that the "foreign" tape (..i.e; not recorded in that camcorder you're using..) was recorded at LP (Long Play) - a slow tape speed - or even slower than LP.
This makes recordings on extremely narrow video tracks (..because the tape hardly moves forwards while the spinning recording head turns round..) which may not quite co-incide with the exact head position of another camcorder ..i.e; the tolerance is too fine to match properly.
Most manufacturers mention this ..in very obscure language.. in their camcorder manuals, saying that LP tapes from other camcorders might not play properly, or tapes recorded in LP mode might not play in other camcorders.
Most (all?) Sony DV camcorders will play back footage recorded faster than normal, on 'professional' 'DVCAM' recorders. These tapes move faster through the camera than ordinary DV, so they produce a wider track which is less likely to cause signal 'drop-out' failure. I don't know if other makes of camcorder can play back DVCAM material.
If the "foreign" tapes were shot at DVCAM speed (..e.g; on a Sony PDX10 camcorder, or similar), then although they should play back in other, normal 'domestic' Sony cams, they might not play back in another make of camcorder. Could these be DVCAM tapes?
Finally, it might also be that the "foreign" tape really is a Foreign tape: i.e; the recording was made to a different standard. So if it's an American-recorded (NTSC) tape and it's played in a UK (PAL TV system) camcorder, the frame-rate will be wrong, the number of scan-lines will be wrong, the colour info will be wrong, etc. [..But as you mention "fields", you probably know enough not to have made that mistake.]
NOTE: Ooops, sorry, Karl: we must have both been typing at the same time ..didn't mean to step on your toes.

  • Problem Importing Footage From a DVD

I had posted a question about a week ago asking how to import footage from a DVD into FCE. Per Tom Wolsky's suggestion -- thank you very much-- I connected my DVD player to an analog/digital converter in order to capture my video material. Although FCE is recognizing the DVD player (evident by the fact that when I click "capture" the video is displayed in the capture window ), however, FCE won't actually capture the video when I click "capture now".
When the "capture now" window pops up it displays the message: "Waiting for time code. Device must be in VTR mode when device control is enabled." I can't figure out how how to correct. It seems that I'm only one step away from my objective of capturing the DVD. Would appreciate any guidance to get me over this final hurdle. Thanks.

Yes. ANY time you want to capture from a non-timecoded or non-controllable source, use that setting.

  • Problem importing footage

I am using a Canon GL2 to import footage via firewire into FCP6 on my Macbook Pro. The imported clips have a horizontal line running from bottom to top of the screen. Anyone have any ideas on why this would happen?
    Thanks in advance!

It's a horizontal line from the left to the right of the screen that scrolls vertically from bottom to top...like an AC hum bar. It's not drop out, not black...it's just a line that runs through the video.
The master tape is fine, it only shows up in the clip after it has been captured. I see it in the log and capture window, the viewer, and the canvas.

  • Problem importing footage shot with p2 cards

I have a project that I've been importing into FCP. Most of the files imported fine.
I have two folders that Total 23 GB, and for some reason, nothing happens when I try to import them.
I noticed that the "lastclip.txt" file is missing. Would this be a problem?
    Thanks for the help.
    Gerry

    Could be.
Try downloading (for free) the P2CMS application from Panasonic. That allows you to organize and import the footage.

  • Problem importing footage from Canon XF305 into fcp

I have footage from a card having recorded on a Canon XF305. I literally dragged and dropped card onto my desktop making sure not to change any file names. I am now trying to import this footage from my desktop into fcp. I have downloaded the canon fcp plugin but everytime I try to import the footage using the canon plugin preferences I get an error message which reads... "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media. Can anyone help me??

    Hi there,
I've had no joy with this. Have tried everything. Just can't get footage into fcp any way I try. I have downloaded the plugin but I still get the same error message. "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My work flow is as follows.
Open final cut pro. Go to log and transfer. Go to preferences within the log and transfer window and click on Canon XF plugin. Then go to import. Click on file on my desktop which is labeled as CLIPS001. Then error message comes up.
Memory card was dropped directly onto my laptop and onto a back up drive without changing any file names. Was thinking this would be straight forward.
Any help will be hugely appreciated. Am I missing something simple?

  • Sync problems importing footage

I'm capturing footage shot with a Canon XH A1 into FCE 3.5.1. I'm using the Apple HDV 1080i codec. On playback, the audio and video are out of sync. The durations are the same, they are just off. I unlinked the tracks and manually adjusted the sync but there is still a significant sync problem throughout the clip. I'm thinking there's a problem with either the audio rate or the frame rate. The footage was shot at 24, could this be the problem? Is there a solution?

I don't know how this camera shoots 24p, whether it's 23.976 or is 29.97 with pulldown added. If it's the former then you can't work with this material in FCE.

  • Problems importing footage with Canon GL-2

I'm brand new to Mac & FCP, migrating from Casablanca after 8+ years.
I've had no luck using the "Capture Batch" option, so I've reverted to "Capture Now"...after reading lots of issues with the gl2. "Capture Now", though very time consuming, seems to work okay. I'll need to break the clips for editing. I'm thinking wedding recepiton (with lots of rec/pause). Using "Mark" then "DV Start/Stop Detect" works nicely, but when I trim the clips and put them in the timeline with a transition (such as page peel), the clip somehow continues past the end. For example, as the page is peeling back, the same piece of video is under the page...then it cuts to the next piece of footage, and continues the peel. FYI, all transitions do the same. I'm just using it as an example.
However, if I trim the pieces of video and put them in the timeline instead of using the above proceedure, the transitions work perfectly. BUT, unless I use the method above, I'll have to scrub through hours of footage. The Casablanca has an "auto split" option. I dump the footage, hit the button, and end up with a bunch of perfectly cut clips. FCP has to have something similar...
Thanks in advance for your input

Use Log & Transfer with USB.
Make sure in the Settings that plain stereo is selected.

  • Im having problems importing footage from sony z1e to i movie 08

    any ideas??
    need it done now!!
im using a fire wire from the cam to the mac book pro, i movie is only showing the built in i sight and no sony z1
    HELPPPPPP please

I also use a pro level Sony Z5U with the slow mo ... it's sweet.  By the way, if you record a session over 10 to 12 minutes, most avchd cameras break up the MTS files into 2GB chunks or segments.  If you just bring them all in and try to stitch them back together you will end up with little gaps of around a half second where you put them together.  It disrupts an otherwise perfect video.  When you use clipwrap, you can select "Convert Multiple as Spanned" from its menu, and clipwrap will put them back together properly ... no gap.  Best wishes.

  • Trouble Importing Footage

Hi there, I have a question that has been bothering me for quite a while now.
I own a Sony HDR-FX7 HD/DV Camera with worked well with the old-generation MacBook Pro (2008). I had no problems importing footage from the tape to FCE via Firewire 300 when I set it to the right import settings in easy setup.
However I bought the new Macbook Pro, which doesn't feature a Firewire 300 slot, but a Firewire 800.
I bought a firewire 800->DV cable, the camera went funny and permaenntly switched from DVin to DVout and back. Then I bought an Expresscard 34, with Firewire 300 Slots. Now the camera recognises the computer but Shows DVin, instead of DVout. The computer however doesn't recognize the camera. In some cases, the whole mac ended up freezing.
So here's my question: How do I manage to import footage on FCE again.
I am very grateful for answers.

    Hi (Bonjour)!
There should be a reset parametters button on the camcorder. On the FX1, it's located on the control panel on the handle.

  • Problems importing HD footage

I'm having problems importing HD footage from my Canon XHA1 into imovie.
I select 1080i HD and but the program defaults into DV.
    Why??

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I think maybe you took a wrong turn somewhere. You have posted in the iBook G3 (Dual USB) Forum. You may want to try posting in the iMovie Forum.

  • Problem importing video footage on to iMovie

I have just bought a Sanyo Xacti camcorder and have just imported my first videos on to the Macbook. Weirdly, only about 40% of the product seems to have been imported, ie. if a piece of film lasts 40 seconds on the Sanyo only 18 seconds is imported on to the Macbook.
Strangely, this is not the case if I use iphoto, where the entire film seems to be imported.
Help! Any ideas why imovie is not importing the full video recordings?

I have similar problem importing from Sony camcorder to iMovie9. Four short videos are on the camera, but only the last one imported. I use Import All, but the other videos still don't show in iMovie, so I also can't see them to manually select them. Should have enough processing speed. Also, have plenty of memory. Any ideas?

  • Suddenly can't import footage, and already done projects give me a media offline message importer is missing. Help... anyone?

I cannot import footage of any kind anymore in premiere pro cc, and all finished projects give me a offline media message'importer is missing'. Anyone with the same problem?
I am currently working on a PC, windows 7professional. GPU GTX 760. Quicktime is player up to date.
    Thanks in advance

i have a solution for import and read any files
its a problem with the 8.2 and last version of premiere and setting on the cloud
in premiere you desactivate on the preference the synchronisation with adobe cloud (all)
and after you go on you os c/ user/ appdata / adobe / premiere / roaming  / 8.0 you cancel all the file and after you restart adobe
for me is ok - but for the moment i don't have the possibility to export in h264 ?
