Problems updating BIOS on P965-platinum

Well, using LiveUpdate to find the newest BIOS seems like the most reasonable course of action for a guy who does not posess a floppy-drive... So when I use it, I want it to work!...
Now, it finds the newest BIOS, downloads it as well as the flash tool, and then I press the button to start flashing... Then it only gives me an "error loading driver... Press any key" message... WTH??
Does anybody here have any ideas how I flash the BIOS, I'm sure as hell not using a floppy
Best Regards

yes, I never did it myself but I have read about it.
You need a tool like this here:
http://217.110.237.67/Notnagel/USB/Tool%20zum%20USB-Stick%20formatieren.exe
with it you can format your USB stick as a DOS start up disk
Then copy the BIOS file and a flash programm onto the stick, set your current BIOS to boot from USB and you're set.
I've heard people talking about problems using LiveUpdate (but then others used it with no problems).

  • Power problems... P965 Platinum

So I updated my system with new motherboard and CPU.
Case: Sonata Antec II Piano with Smartpower 2.0 450W
    Motherboard: P965 Platinum
    CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600
    MEM: 1x 1GB 800MHz
I was short of money that's why I only bought certain new parts.
After installing the mobo and CPU, I plugged in the main power cord to the PSU and switched the power on from PSU (but not from the power button on the case) and the case and cpu fan started spinning and the DVD-drive can be opened and closed. Now this is weird as the computer is not on yet. When I do press the power button, the leds indicates that the system is on but nothing happens (the fans and dvd-drive are still working). So I think there is bad cabling etc.
I tried re-installing everything but the same thing happens again. Now I have only the CPU + heat sink, graphics card (geforce 7300), RAM and the D-bracket installed.
    The cabling goes like this:
the 24-pin power is plugged to JPWR1
the 4-pin power is plugged  to JPWR2
the 4-pin power is plugged to JPWR3
the reset switch, power switch and  hdd led are plugged in to JFP1
the speaker and power led is plugged into JFP2
the D-Bracket is plugged into JDB1
So does anyone have ideas why the fans start spinning when I switch the power on from the PSU switch? Have I missed something I need to do in order to make the system work? I've done everything exactly like the manuals tells me to do (I'm writing this from school, so I do not have access to the system, hopefully I remember the cabling correctly).
    thx

    > hmm.... did you save the BIOS settings before?
Nope, I'm not able to save the BIOS Settings at all. No matter what the settings are (Defaults, modified,...), After saving the settings, the computer just won't boot. I need to clear CMOS in order to get back into BIOS after saving the settings.
I think this might be caused by the fact that it saves the FSB to 266MHz (1066MHz) (during boot it displays the message that "266mhz system bus processor is not supported <....> System will use reduced 133MHz bus instead.) So after saving the settings (and FSB to 266MHz), the system is unable to boot. I cannot change the value to 133MHz from BIOS (this is what I tried, so that I would be able to test if the FSB setting is the one that makes it impossible to boot after saving BIOS settings), it can be only between 200-500MHz.
I'll test more powerful / other PSU in couple of days, MSI's support suggested that. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

  • Problem updating bios

Here is a question related for bios.  I have a ms6534 mother board which current has 1.1 version of bios on it.  In order for my prosscessor to work i need to put on 1.4 verison of bios on it.  I manage to get into the program to update bios and save the old bios.  But when a go load the new version into it, it start to over write bios, it comes up with an error that is "Flash ROM erasing error".  I have no clue what this means.  came someone because ecplain what i should do to update the bios.  Thank you!

    you sure award bios...
Award and AMI both are different bios and are using a different flash utility...
you are luck that your board still 'alive'...
you confirm the board model number is ms6534...
if yes, think you better contact your msi local distributor for help...

  • Problem with BIOS K8N Neo4 Platinum (PCB 1.0)

    Hi...
I just wanna know which is the best BIOS for overclock for this motherboard... I've tried diferent BIOS versions, but i can't get FSB greater than 235 mhz...
    ps:sorry for my english

I don't have this board at hand. So...uh I haven't tried those bios, but many guys on the forum have the experience in using 1.C or beta 1.Cx. It seems that there is not any obvious bug. However, in my opinion, the newest bios is not always the best one for your board. If not necessary, don't update bios. The stability is the most important.
    thanks...
em... the 1.C is a beta version???
i think i will try the 1.B version...

  • Satellite A210 - Over heating and problem updating BIOS

My aunt was having problems with her A210 so she bought herself a new one and gave me the old one. The problems she was having was the computer kept randomly shutting down. I think it is an overheating problem because the laptop runs pretty hot. The BIOS has never been updated so I was thinking that might help with this problem. Anyways, when I tried to update the BIOS this error message came up.
    Cannot load driver C:\Users\Dan\Desktop\MK10AWF\PHLASHNT.SYS.
Please check your accounts, if you have no administrator privilege, please login again!
    Access is denied.
    Error code: 5
I am the only user on the computer and I have administrator priveleges so I'm not sure why this error is coming up. Please help. Thanks

    > Has anyone else experienced overheating problems with the A210? Any solutions?
    Hi mate
Im an Satellite A210 owner and to be honest an higher internal temperature could happen if the notebook would not get enough air in order to cool the internal parts like CPU and GPU.
Some weeks ago I used the notebook lying on the couch I didnt notice that the cooling ventilators which are placed at the bottom of the unit were clogged because of my relax position if you know what I mean ;)
After a short time of usage, the notebook shut down automatically I was a little bit surprised but I realized that the air could not circulate and therefore the notebook overheated
Now, Im using the unit only on the desk. This is recommended and it helps to keep the temperature on lower level
PS: My BIOS is up to date...

  • Problem updating BIOS- Protege A600

I am in the process of updating my BIOS settings on my laptop (which I was prompted to do by Toshiba's hardware updating service).
I followed all of the instructions provided by the program as it extracted and ran the update. However, the computer began the process of restarting, but has been "logging off" windows (Vista Business) for about an hour now. I'm not sure how to stop the process without causing serious damage to my BIOS, but this doesn't seem normal.
    Please help!

    Hi wilreb...
I think the user henharas make some bad experience with BIOS updates.
I have updated the BIOS many times and never had any problems...
I assume you are speaking about Tempro software... this software notifies you about new updates on the Toshiba page. It's not a recommendation for a update but just simply a alert that new updates has been released...
If your notebook is running properly then the BIOS update is not really necessary...
You should follow this advice; never change a running system ;)
Anyway, after the BIOS update should not take too long and if it has finished, you should see the new version in BIOS settings...
    Check it...

  • Problem updating bios on X200

Hi, I have an X200 with Windows 7 64bit. It has an old bios on it. I need the newest version installed so I can take advantage of the battery life updates. I downloaded the manual updater and when I run it and choose Update ThinkPad BIOS it says Driver Loading Failed. The Utility cannot proceed. I tried the bootable cd option but I don't have a cd rom drive for the computer. I tried mounting the image onto a usb stick but none of the programs I tried work. There is another program included in the manual package called winphlash that looks like you can manually update it but it's kind of sketchy to do without exact instructions for it. Please help, thanks.

This does not sound good. A BIOS update is usually completed within 5 minutes.
Is this the download you used from your model's driver/software page?

  • Weird problem P965 Platinum (Solved)

This is my first post, so helo to everybody.
I bought a P965 Platinum board a week ago. Yesterday I decided to update to v1.1 bios which I downloaded from the Global Site (latest version). Since then I have a very weird problem. My keyboard does not work unless it goes into Windows. I tried 2 different PS2 and another 2 USB keyboards but the problem is the same. Before then everything was OK (e.g. I entered numerous times into the bios in order to manage to install the XP SP2 onto a raid0 configuration!). Any suggestions (except from just wait for a new bios release)?
P.S. I searched for similar topics before I post but found nothing similar. Thanks in advance
    My config:
    C2D E6600
    MSI P965 Platinum
    ATI X1900XT
    2*512MB Corsair 800
    2*Raptors 36GB Raid0
    2*320GB WD-KS
    1*DVD, 1*DVDRW...

I had the exact same problem with my keyboards / P965 Platinum, although mine started when I used partition magic to resize my windows partition.
No keyboards (usb or ps/2, didn't matter) would activate until halfway through the windows load screen, making it impossible to change boot order, get into bios, etc.
Was seriously a very scary problem.
Did exactly as BOSSKILLER suggested.  Updated bios to latest version 1.4 within windows using live update.  Turned off machine.  Unplugged power cord.  Cleared CMOS.  Booted, (keyboard worked! :D) got into bios, loaded defaults.  Rebooted into bios, reset all of my settings and presto!  Perfect again.
Thank you guys so much.  This helped immensely.  I was not looking forward to taking apart my new machine to send in the motherboard for service at all.

dunno where did you saw that, but i never suggest using LiveUpdate to update BIOS.

  • Updating bios problems k7n2-L bio= 3.0

    I have a k7n2-L board, bios 3.0
how do i find bios write protection? wehre is it i kant find it - im having problems updating bios.
    thx
    stun

With my older kt266a chipset and a 1700+ cpu, I had the regular cpu temp higher than case temp.
But then I applied a patch that enabled the use of the CPU HALT command.  This effectively stopped the cpu completely when it wasn't doing anything.  The temps at 100% load did NOT change, but the temps at idle were dramastically different.
Considering the effectiveness of todays heat sinks, it is not unbelievable for a cpu temp to be lower than a case temp, as long as the cpu temp is above ambient.  In my case, I have 2 7200 rpm hard drives, which have 2 80mm fans blowing on them.  There is also an nvidia gf4 4200 which puts off a good deal of heat.  If the mobo temp sensor is located in such an area that it picks up the heat from those items, and the cpu get's airflow that has not been heated by those items, then I can see how there would be a large difference in temperature from mobo to cpu at idle.
at load, the cpu should be above mobo temps if you use a regular case and air cooling method.

  • Is P965 Platinum going to receive a BIOS update to support E8400 s-spec SLB9J?

Is P965 Platinum going to receive a BIOS update to support C2D E8400 s-spec SLB9J with E0 core stepping?

Well, basically they're sorry that the motherboard doesn't currently support it. I also asked about time frame when a BIOS update would be likely. They replied there are a number of issues in making it happen. If possible, they'll make effort to release a solution as soon as they can.
Kinda obscure, but I guess that was to be expected.

  • P965 Platinum/Realtek RTL8111 Connectivity Problems

I have a P965 Platinum that has the on board Realtek RTL8111.  I have had it since Dec '06.  I have the latest Win Xp.  Driver 5.658.814.2006.  From the beginning I have had connectivity problems.  I have stripped the motherboard of all non-essential components and I have installed XP multiple times.
Almost every time I boot up, and windows comes up, I get a Limited or No Connectivity error.  Notice I said 'almost' every time.  Sometimes I get connected right away.  I thought it might be a loose cord, and noticed that the left LED on the back of the LAN jack was blinking.  Which according to the manual means that it is talking.  I wiggled the cable around to see if it was a bad connection, nothing.  Then I replaced it and I connected.  Unfortunately when rebooted, it wasn't connected again.  After trial and error, I soon realized that by unplugging and re plugging the cable back in I could eventually get it to connect, which it eventually did every time.  Bad connection right?  Now here is the weird part, if I disable and enable the local area connection under Network Connections in windows enough times eventually it connects!  Here is exactly what I do:  First I disable it and then enable it again.  If it takes more than a couple of seconds trying to connect, I know it will fail.  So I keep doing it until it works.  I thought it was a BIOS or driver issue and being such a new board I thought I should just wait.  No other computer of mine has this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Have you tried using another cable to rule out the possibility that your cable is bad?
Yes, I tried a new cable.  Same effect.  Now of my other computers have problems with the cable or connection.

Have you tried the updated Realtek drivers from MSI (5.664.0205.2007)? Dated 2007-04-20
                        HERE
Yes, I tried those drivers which are also on the Realtek website.  The funny thing is that it connected the first time!  Unfortunately when I tried it again (reboot and restart) it did not connect.   So the driver upgrade did not fix the problem.

  • P965 platinum ide and sata problems

in bios om my mb it says that i have ide not sata >:(.
and i cannot see my cd-rom as an ide.
i have tried to update bios but it didnt work i tried liveupdate and usb stick.
when i set my mb to ahci function on my sata config, windows dosent find the disk in the os installation. and my computer cannot load windows.
in windows something is wrong with the cd-rom when i use it my computer is going slowly.
i think this problem is caused by the jbmicron software.
anybody who can help me with this problem??
    Specs:
    Msi p965 platinum
    c2d e6600
    corsair twin2x 2048mb ram
    xfx geforce 7900gt
    wd raptor 10000rpm 74gb
    seagate 160gb sata2
    thermaltake pure power 460w

Would much appreciate some help if anyone is familiar with this issue!
I'm having a very difficult time getting the the 965 Platinum to recognize my IDE devices, and I don't know why. I've got a Sony DRU-500A DVD burner in the master position, and a Maxtor 6L300R0 hard drive in the slave position. The jumpers on those devices are appropriate for their position. The devices are "usuable", that is, I've been able to run the Windows XP installer (up to a point) and writes have occured to my hard drive, but the installation fails after the portion where you reboot after all the files have been written from the install disk.
In any case, the Standard CMOS screen simply never shows any devices detected on either the IDE Primary Master or Slave entries. I've tried disconnecting the DVD drive and just connecting the Hard Drive as master instead with no improvment. I've also tried disabling the SATA configurations, toggling PCI IDE Busmastering. Nothing works.
I've never been able to boot into Windows.
There was a point where the JMicron Raid menu showed this drive as a raid drive for reasons that aren't clear to me (the drive may have been a raid drive in the past). I've set the drive back to non-raid, rebooted back into my old system and everything checks out. No problems at all, so I think that there are any RAID issues.
I'm not a pro at building systems, so there could be user error anywhere alonog the way.
    Any ideas? I'm bamboozled!

If enabling EIST would cause OC unstable, that means this OC setting is unstable after all. What EIST does is to reduce the multiplier back to 6x during idle, it also set the CPU Core Voltage LOWER.
I don't have this P965 Platinum board to test out, the temperature thing definitely can be fixed, by next BIOS release hopefully. Del UK, did E6600 temp. report correctly?
    Hi Maesus,
Yes, temps reported ok with E6600 and speedstep could enabled and disabled.  Could see difference from standard to OCing at 3.4Ghz.
Had similar issues with Prescott on the PT880 Version 1 when that came out and was solved with a few bios updates.....
I did go and check the Intel spex for P965 chipset and that states max FSB of 1066.  In theory the P965, do not support the 1333 FSB.
I have emailed support and know could be a few days for reply....... not long
Other replies, thanks it all helps and I do try them out.
