Problems using finder 10.8.2

I have some problems with my finder, i use a macbook pro retina with mountain lion 10.8.2.
Just installed normal apps such as chrome, firefox, adobe suite and so on.
But the following issues occur.
- When using spotlight and click on "show all in finder" finder does not pop up
- When i open a download in chrome download bar, app does not start
- When i click on show in finder on all kind of apps, finders does not popup
- Unarchiving using the archive utility gets stuck (force quite needed)
But normally using finder works fine.
I tried checking the error console but could not find any issues so far yet.
Hope i can fix it without reinstalling or something.

Restarting computer is what helped, not repairing permissions
What you described is a known bug introduced in the 10.8.2 update. The workaround is to restart "appleeventsd" when it occurs.

Problem using FIND in PSE 6

This is probably a simple problem, but I did not see anything in the forum that explains the problem. Simply put, I cannot use the PSE 6 Organizer FIND capability. In particular, I have a bunch of images that were taken long ago with a Canon PowerShot A80 that I want to locate. If I Show All and then use the Find By Details (Metadata) option, and specify that the search should be for images where the camera make contains Canon, it returns 26 files. But there are at least several hundred in the catalog. If I look at some of the file properties of some of the images that are NOT returned in the search, the EXIF data indeed shows me that the camera maker is Canon.
The only thing I can think may have affected this is that the older Canon pictures were initially imported in PSE 3, and I then upgraded to PSE 6 at some point.
Has anyone seen this problem? Any ideas how to get it to work properly?

Can you attach the screenshot of the properties dialog showing Exif data for an image which is not shown in the search results.
You can also try making Camera model search. Please see if this solves your problem.

Then correct the name of the song or point iTunes to the new file.
Issues with restoring should be directed to the manufacturer of the backup software/device... this is not an Apple or iTunes issue.

When using finder over the network, refresh problems

When using finder, it keeps randomly refreshing and making duplicates of a particular folder. Once you go in and out its fine. Is there a fix for this? Have already removed finder prefs. Server that it is through is an xServe

Problem using File sharing in a small office network

I have a problem using File sharing on an Imac and Macbook Pro.
My office has a small network running Windows Small office file server 2003. I have one Windows 2000 PC connected to it and 3 Macs, an 2.4 gHz Intel iMac running Leopard 10.5.6 , a MBP running the same and a Mac Mini running 10.5.
From the Finder Shared window of the Mac Mini, I can see all the computers on the network. It also used to be the case for the iMac, but the MBP could never see the Windows PC’s, not the server or the Win2000. This wasn’t a big problem as I was communicating between the Macs and using the shared printer on the iMac.
On Monday Jan 19 the iMac was suddenly unavailable to the other 2 Macs. It was working normally on the Friday. The iMac can access the Mac Mini and copy files to it. The Mac Mini can see the iMac but cannot access it. Even trying to connect as, ends in a failed connection. I have tried rebooting, turning File sharing off and then on again to no avail.
The iMac now also cannot see the Windows PC’s which it previously could.
To get files from the MBP for printing, I now copy it to the Mac Mini and acces the folder from the iMac, a very tedious procedure. I don’t know why this happened and am scared that the Mac Mini is going to do the same thing.
All three computers are also running VMware 2.0 with Windows XP pro, and from VMware the server is visible on all the computers.
Any help will be much appreciated, I live in a small town in South Africa and the local computer suppliers have no knowledge of the Macs.
I think that the problem with the iMac may have started after a software upgrade to 10.5.6 but I am not entirely sure.

Well, you're current method sounds pretty good. But if you want to user a file server, hey go ahead.
What you want to do when you centralize project files is to keep track of which one is the newest and becareful not to overwrite files with the same name. So you either have to set up individual spaces on the server (separate AFP/FTP folders maybe), or you'll need to run a file checkout service.
The individual space is cheaper, but it's not much of a difference from backing up to the network drive. Since you have Gigabit connections, you might even opt to save ALL the user files on the server instead of just the project files.
If you want to run a file checkout service, there's two approaches. You can run a service that can host any kind of file, or you can run a version control system for each kind of application (Photoshop, Word, etc.). Please notice, that as you read further and further along, the methods become more and more expensive and complicated. Once you get to this point, it will be necessary to purchase or build software in addition to the Mac OS X Server package.

Not able to reload the data from DB using finder methods

I am facing a weird problem while using finder methods.
I am using weblogic 8.1 SP3 and entity beans are CMP with DB concurrency.DB is oracle

I am having one session bean which internally interacts with my entity beans,
Now say my transaction is getting initiated in one of the session bean and I use some finder in it.


To make the problem more clear lets say my entity bean is loanBean with loanId as primary key.
Now say method A of session bean initiates the transaction and I use something like
 
LoanLocal loanLocal =loanLocalHome.findByLoanId(loanId);
 
Note that I am not using findByPrimaryKey method
 
now this method A calls some other method B on some session bean which is having Required as its transaction attribute.
 
But before the call of B some other thread or background process updates the DB for this loanId and commits,
 
now when I fire the same finder in method B I am still getting the old data, ie I am not getting the data which has been modified in DB and committed by some other thread, I still get the old data and when I tried to generate the SQL queries which weblogic is firing, I see
it fires the SQL for every finder other that findByPrimaryKey.
 

Now my problem is I am getting the old data only and I need the new updated data of DB. isolation-level of DB and beans is READCOMMITTED.
Note:: I cant use new transaction to read the data.

 
And I couldn't understand that when weblogic is firing query for every finder then why it should not refresh the data in its cache. Is there any way to disable this kind of caching and say that everytime when i use finder just go to DB and get me the last committed data.

 
Any help in this regard would be very helpful to me.

In my understanding, cache is not involved in this scenario. As you
observed, the container fires sql every time when you invoke this finder.
So, it should just give the result that it got from the DB. Is there a
possibility that the DB is using repeatable_read or serializable for
isolation level?
You can debug further by doing couple of things -
1. Instrument the code in the generated RDBMS java file for the entity bean
(if you use -keepgenerated option for weblogic.ejbc, u can get the source of
this file). This class will have the implementation for ejbFindByLoanId. You
can just print the result set data after the query is fired.
2. Try the same scenario without the ejb container. Like, write a jsp which
will start a user tx and fire the query twice such that there is an update
between the two queries. Note that, you need to use a TxDataSource to get
the JDBC connection so that it will be tx aware.

When I click on a file to view in Finder in the view as columns, Finder stops responding. If I use Finder in any of the other views, I don't have an issue.

When I go to finder and view as columns so that the right column will open a preview of the file, I get the endless spinning graphic and when I go to Force Quit, it shows that Finder has stopped responding. When I use Finder in any other view mode, I don't have that issue. This just started today. As far as I know, I haven't done any updates today that would cause the issue. I've restarted a few times. I'm running 10.10 on iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011). I when to updates in the App Store and saw there was an update for 10.10.1 and tried to run it twice now. It starts to install and says I have 7 minutes left and then at about 3 minutes, it just opens all my windows again and acts normally. When I go to "About this mac", I'm still showing 10.10 as the OS. Also, in the App Store, when I click on updates, it shows me 4 updates that I've already installed as ready to install. Not really sure what's going on nor why all the sudden this is an issue, but I use the preview mode in Finder all the time so I would love a fix for this. I've tried logging out and logging in as another user and the same issue with Finder happens with other users as well. I've emptied my trash bin as well.

Step one is to log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists.

Open PDF's in new window in document library when using "Find a file" search

I need to be able to open PDF's in a new window from a document library when using the "Find a file" search built into the document library "All documents" view. I currently have the following javascript on the page:

This works great when going to the document library and navigating through the folders then clicking on a link.
The problem is when someone goes to the document library then uses the "Find a file" search and then they click on a link. The "Find a file" search does not do a postback (reload) of the page, therefore my javascript to find the PDF links
and make them open in a new window does not run for the links on the page.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open PDF files in a new window from a document library when using the "Find a file" search.
As you said, the "Find a file" search does not do a postback (reload) of the page, therefore JavaScript to find the PDF links and make them open in a new window does not run for the links on the page.
I recommend to use JS link to achieve the goal. Create a JavaScript override file and upload the JavaScript file to the Master Page Gallery, and then set the JS Link property of the document library web part to point to the JavaScript file.

My brother as a prank locked my ipod using find my iphone. Is there any way i can unlock it because my brother wont tell me the password he put on it and it says lost mode on.

Why Can't I see or access my external hard drive anymore using finder

I have a MacBook using Lion 10.7.5 and I use a Seagate 1 TByte external hard drive to store large photo and video files so that these won't take up space on my system hard drive. I also use the drive to share files with friends, colleagues and family members. Just recently I was no longer able to see my harddrive when I plugged it into the USB port on the Mac. However, when using the Disk Utilities, I was able to see the hard drive but could not access or see the files. Therefore the USB cable and USB port is working from a hardware perspective. The light also was on when I plugged the hard drive into the USB port so I know the hard drive is working. I brought the laptop and hard drive to my local Apply store to see if they could determine the problem. They did everything I already did regarding the testing of hardware. They recommended that I reload my software because something in the OS must have gotten corrupted. I re-installed the OS and the updates to the version. The re-install DIDN'T help. Using Bootcamp with Windows XP which is installed on my MacBook, I wanted to find out if Windows would recognize the hard drive and also give me access to the files. Using Windows, I was able to now see the drive and access the files. I now know the hard drive works, the USB cable and port is working and windows gave me the ability to access all of the files.
THE FIX: The hard drive was stuck in the Windows Mount Mode and because of this, the Mac OS was not able to recognize the hard drive using finder in Mac OS. When I was still in Windows, I ejected or dismounted the dick prior to removing the hard drive from the MacBook. I then shut down Windows and restarted the Mac OS. Once the system was fully up, I plugged the hard drive into the MacBook via the USB port. The Hard Drive is now being recognized by my Macbook once more. I can again access all my files.
HOW THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED: While sharing my hard drive with a colleague to transfer some files on a PC using Windows, the colleague disconnected the hard drive from the PC after the files were transferred by pulling the USB cable out of the USB port without a software dismount or ejection. This caused the hard drive to hang in a "windows mounted state" even though there was no power to the hard drive. When peripherals are connected to either a Mac or PC systems, they should always to properly dismounted via a software dismount or a system ejection. Proper dismount of peripherals will always insure the closure and correct allocation of data within the booting sectors and data fields of the hard drive.

HD won't appear on Desktop and cannot use Find for HD searches

The HD icon disappeared from my Desktop last week and I cannot get it back using Finder Preferences. Also when I search with Find it cannot see anything on the HD although all applications etc are there and can be used. External HD icon and CDs etc. show up on desktop. Tried Disk Utility first Aid but still nothing. Other "dummy accounts" have same problem. Any ideas??? I'm stumped.

Ipad is showing as offline when using "find my iphone"

I am having trouble getting my ipad to be located using find my iphone. This was working and has now stopped working (and did stop working prior to installing iOS 5 so im pretty certain its nothing to do with my software update the other day)
I have downloaded the app, location services are on as are push notifications and of course find my iphone is enabled. Ipad is definately on and connected to the net as its only the wifi version.
When i try to find it, it says that its offline. I have tried a whole lot of things so far and nothing as worked
- turned airplane mode off/on - restart - no luck
- turned push notifications off/on - no luck
- turned location services off/on - no luck
- deleted my icloud account and then added again - no luck
- deleted the app and downloaded again (clutching at straws at this stage!) and still no luck
I read somewhere that it could be to do with me recently changing my apple ID which i did a couple of weeks ago - the suggestion that i read was to change my apple id back and it should work. Problem is that my old apple ID was 6 letters long and no capitals, so i can't change it back even if i wanted to
Also what annoys my is that i can actually locate my iphone sweet as just not my ipad

I copied my Movies folder using Finder to an external HD before my MBP crashed and now can't get them back into iMovie library!!

I realize NOW that I should have moved the events and projects to external HD within iMovie but unfortunately I didn't. I also upgraded to Mavericks with the new internal HD. Problems...
1) If I try and open a movie in iMovie from the Movies folder, none of the movies are highlighted so I cannot open them.
2) When I open a movie using Finder in the Movies folder, it goes through this conversion process with QuickTime player which takes several minutes (we have over 700 videos).
Anybody have any suggestions to fix this problem? I still have the Movies folder in both the external HD and on my internal HD.
