Problems with Class.forName("com.sun.sql.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver")

In sun java studio enterprise 8
I'm able to connect to my local DB2 sample database by creating a database schema.
But when I try to execute a java class (main) using
Class.forName("com.sun.sql.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver"). It returns a not found condition.
what am I doing wrong? do I have to point the classpath to some directory?

try to add jar containing driver to
Your project -> Properties -> Libraries -> Run list.

  • Help! JSP w/ struts can't find Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver")

    I think this is just a directory structure issue but I can't figure it out. I am writing a JSP / Struts / MYSQL web application which uses the mysql JDBC connector. The connector (mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin.jar) is in the referenced libraries. If I write the line of code:
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
    To load up the driver, it works in JSP files in the folder /projectname/webroot/web-inf just fine and I can go on to execute MySQL queries. However, I need to load up the driver in an action (.java action) with the directory structure /projectname/src/action and it throws the exception "class not found", I believe, it can no longer seem to get to the driver. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance, I hope this is the correct place (I have done my best to find the right one).

It has to be in CLASSPATH, and that isn't an environment variable.
    If I write the line of code:
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"); No, wrong.
    The JAR file for the Driver class might go in the WEB-INF/lib of your web app. If you're using Tomcat 5.5.26, put it in common/lib.

  • Can't load class with Class.forName()

    Hi, can somebody help me with this problem. I have clas copiled with jdk 1.3.1 (I also test it with jdk 1.4.1). If I try to load a Class instance with Class.forName("package.app.MyClass)") I have a runtime exception:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.unisys.ebs.all.ispecs.GD130IspecModel

    but if instead of this I instantiate the class calling the constructor and writing an import sentence, it works fine. I really need to instantiate this class via Class.forName because it extends a superclass and know the class to instantiate only at runtime. I will appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Pablo Antonioletti

    I removed the import in the file header and wrote this code:
    try{
    ispecModel = new com.unisys.ebs.all.ispecs.GD130IspecModel();
    Class ispecClass = Class.forName("com.unisys.ebs.all.ispecs.GD130IspecModel.class");
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    the new sentence work fine, if write mor code I can access methods and members. When the runtime execute the Class.forName sentence the exception is thrown. I put all in the same file and class to avoid mistakes typing class path.
    This is very rare I never seen it before and I developed java application since five years ago.

  • Use of classes in com.sun.tools.doclets

    Hello -- What is the best practice recommendation wrt using the classes in com.sun.tools.doclets -- particularly with the planned refactoring?
    I'm writing a doclet that doesn't subclass, say, the standard doclet. There are obviously several very useful classes in this package (ClassTree, Util, MethodFinder, etc.) that I'd like to use. I can simply call their methods, but I'm curious to know if their active days are numbered.
    Would it be better to simply incorporate the source? What are the restrictions on using the source in my own doclet?
    If this is all covered somewhere (I've been hunting around a bit), please feel free to simply point me to the info.
    Thanks!
    Steve

    The Java 2 SDK license (which covers javadoc) allows you to only
    redistribute the code unmodified.
    In 1.5.0, the refactoring has renamed all of the packages and
    moved a lot of code around. We hope and plan to release
    the refactored code on java.net around the time 1.5.0 is
    released, and get an early access of it out. We'll notify
    people who are on the javadoc-announce email address which
    people can sign up as described at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/javadoc/#forum
    If you want more specific information now about how these will change,
    please let me know and we can answer those questions.

  • Problem with use of COM+ Transaction and DB Transaction

    Problem with use of COM+ Transaction and DB Transaction
    We build a Web site that use sometime COM+ Transaction and sometime DB
    Transaction. If we use a COM+ Transaction and a few seconds later we try to use
    a Database Transaction (OracleConnection.BeginTransaction), we get the error
    Connection is already part of a local or a distributed transaction
    Of course the error does not produce everytime; it takes some try before we get
    the problem. And of course, if i use pooling=false on the connection string,
    the problem does not appear.
    i run the Web page
    and push the COM+ Transaction and DB Transaction one after the other for some
    times and the problem should appear.

    for 81sp4 the driver can be found in location http://commerce.bea.com/d2d/wlplat81sp4_db2_patch.jsp
    You can download and extract wls81sp4_db2_patch.jar. Set the same in your CLASSPATH. This should help you

If however I restore the Session Bean to the previous state, and having build a new EAR file, the erro persists. What is this strange behaviour, has this to do with weblogic settings for the EAR file of whatever ?

  • Problem wtih deploying EAR: com.sun.javac.Main NOT FOUND

    Hi,
    I have a curious problem, after adding some simple (logging) code to an Session Bean, the EAR file will not deploy. I get the message below concerning compilation problems. If however I restore the Session Bean to the previous state, and having build a new EAR file, the erro persists. What is this strange behaviour, has this to do with weblogic settings for the EAR file of whatever ?
    NB I also have tried to include the tool.lib jar in the projekt but that doesn't solve the problem.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Harry van Rijn

  • Problems with adding Library for a MySQL JDBC driver

    Good day,
    I am new with the JDeveloper package, so the following could be a user fault.
    I found the following:
    - I downloaded and installed Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.10 (latest version).
    - I downloaded the latest JDBC drivers for MySQL. ( mysql-connector-java-3.1.10 )
    Now, I did the following steps extracted from the link http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/duff/mysql_and_oc4j3.html it should be quite easy to add the JDBC Drivers to the project.
    I did the steps with the following results:
    When I Edit the Project properties, follow Profiles -> Development -> Libraries
    When I do ' New' , fill in at JS2E the value 'MySQL' and fill in the Class Path (in my case 'C:\javaInstalls\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar').
    In that case the [OK] is disabled. I should expect the [OK] button was enabled!
    My question: Is this a bug? When not, what am I doing wrong!
    Regards,
    Mike

    I tried it on an other system and had no problems with adding the libraries. It still is a problem on that particular system using the Dutch version of XP. The problem is that the Ok button stays disabled !
    Could it bw a version problem with Java? How ever no changes are made to the original configuration, so it should pick up as default the java version of JDeveloper self.

  • Problem with Latches and Parallelising PL/SQL Cursors

    In 9i i have process that do the following:
    PROCEDURE LoadClients IS
      CURSOR cChanges IS
        SELECT ...
        WHERE MOD(PK,pnTotalJobs>) = pnThisJob To call this I do the following
      nTOTALJOBS CONSTANT := 2;
    BEGIN
      FOR i IN 1..nTOTALJOBS LOOP
        DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT(LoadClient(pnTotalJobs=>nTOTALJOBS, pnThisJob=>i-1));
      END LOOP;
      COMMIT;So by changing the value of the constant - nTOTALJOBS - I can control the number of instances of LoadClient that run. This means I only need one procedure which can be called multiple times, making maintenance simpler than having multiple procedures.
    This process has been running successfully on several procedures of over a year. However recently I have been having trouble with latches in memory. I think these are related to using the variables in the cursor and part of the oracle treating the different queries as being identical. This results in locks in memory and none of the jobs running. In most cases I'm setting nTOTALJOBS to 2. I'm looking into the further with my DBAs.
    My questions are:
    1. Has anyone come across this sort of problem before?
    2. If so is there something I can do in my code or DB parameters to alleviate or test this?
    Notes.
    1. The process uses row by row processing in PL/SQL This done to get row by row error handling. I'm not going to change this in the short-term
    2. The SQL does a call over a database link, I don't know if this has any effect.
    3. This method does have a proven performance benefit
    4. The code snippets above are just illustrative, I'm not asking for syntax corrections.
    Thank you for taking the time to read through this.

    I would first investigate the "problem with latches" to be sure that it has anything to do with these jobs that you are submitting.
    Your concern seems to be "because I am submitting multiple copies of the same PLSQL procedure to run concurrently, am I running into latching issues ?".
    Take a step back and look at
    a. MultiUser OLTP environments : At any time you can have more than a few users running the same SQL queries submitted through Forms / Client Frontends.
    b. ERP Report Extractions (eg in Oracle EBusiness Suite or Peoplesoft) : At any time (say during the daily batch runs ?) you can have multiple copies of the same report (with different bind variables for different business_units / countries etc) running concurrently and extracting reports.
    The question would be : How many concurrent executions of the same code is too much ?
    I would say that latching issues come up on :
    a. Shared Pool : Multiple sessions attempting to load SQL statements and Parse SQL statements
    You could reduce some of this with reusable SQLs and bind variables instead of literals in quick running jobs / user front end screens etc
    b. Buffer Cache : Hot Blocks being frequently pinned -- eg index root blocks or "busy" table blocks.
    If you are running, say 4-8 concurrent copies of the the same code on a 4 CPU or 8 CPU machine, you may not be running into latching issues on the code -- "may not be" -- we can't be too sure, until we identify which latches are under "issue".
    However, if the queries are executing nested loops and frequently accessing the same index blocks, you may more likely be having issues with latches on cache buffer chains.
    So, this is what I would suggest :
    a. Identify the size and scale of the "issues" -- how much CPU time / wait time is accounted for by the latches in relation to the total response time of each of the jobs
    b. Identify which latches are the ones under contention
    c. On the basis of which latches are the holding up performance, decide your next course of action.
