Problems with global variable!!

Hi!
I am using some cluster (global variable), and certain fields in the cluster don't be updated.I can't understand where is the problem, because some fields are updated correctly and others no!!
Any idea?

A functional global acts as a global variable in that it allows LV applications to access the data from different parts of the vi or from different vis for as long a LV is running. The vi is set to not be reentrant so that race conditions are avoided. Since functional globals are subvis that you write you also have the ability to store many global variables which are dependent upon only one input by performing the calculations within the functional global vi. You can certainly achieve this by using semaphores, but with functional globals this synchronization is built in.
In the functional global vi you have a while loop which is set to stop after 1 iteration. This while loop has a shift register which holds the global data. There is a cas
e structure to determine whether to read or write the functional global variable. In the write case the data from the input is written to the shift register on the right side. In the read case the data from the left shift register is written to the output and also passed on through to the right shift register. A good example can be found at the following link.

TS/OI - problem with globals variable

Hello all,
I am in the middle of developing OI which uses some of our previously developed sequences/teststeps etc.
When I do have sequence running directlly on TS - it performs without any problems;
When I run it on OI I dont get some data i think stored mainly in global vi. I havent developed library, so I am not quite sure how it works, but I belive it is something like this :
there is some .ocx file which handles all that - the handle/reference for that is kept in global vi. using this ocx we are also getting some data from text file (mainly addresses for communication) . Those addresses are then stored in stationglobals for TS to use them.
The problem is, that when I run that sequence on OI the addresses remain 0x0000, when i want to debug the vi it finds addresses normally.
Have anyone faced something like this? Or can have sugguestion what check (ie execution options, preload system etc ?)

When you say, "when I want to debug the vi....."
How are you doing this are you running in SeqEditor and LabVIEW development system?
or
Running in your OI with labVIEW development system?
When it fails, with your OI are you using the LabVIEW RTE for your labVIEW Adaptor comfiguration or are you still using the LabVIEW development System.

Using built-in with global variables

I am trying to setup built-in source code control for LabVIEW. It seems to be OK except in one case:
Is it possible to use built-in with global variables ?
VIs that use a global variable are supposed to be updated automatically when global variable is modified but what happen when VIs are checked-in ? LabVIEW cannot updated them. Is it necessary to check out all VIs before modifying global variable ? This is not convenient if global variable is used in more than 100 VIs !
Is there another solution ? Can Perforce resolve this problem ?

You can still use and update global variables while they are checked in to SSC. The default values will still be saved in SSC but they can still be modified and read by other vi's.

Problem with formula variable

HI,
I am facing problem with formula variable with replacement path. my requirement is system date - posting date.
here i created 2 formula variable one is system date. second formula vaiable with replacement path is posting date. second formula vaiable not populating data. please help on that.

here is some idea.. here i have taken expample dates 1)notification creation date and 2) notification completion.
1st:in the query designer at key figure coloumn create
one local formula.in that local formula create formula
variable with replacement path.in that take reference character
notification completion.in the next tab take replace ment
as key.in the last tab select "date".
2nd: do the same thing for the notification creation date.
3 rd : create 3 rd local formula and do the substraction
for the first 2 local formulas.
4th:create codition on the difference which u have find with
on that condition u can create one user entry varibale.
5th:while u defining the query put these 2 dates,i,e
notification completion, notification creation date in the character block.
If not system will ignore the formula variable which u created in
above steps.

Problem with String variable

I am new to Java Programming.
I have a line of code that works and does what is supposed to.
faceData.getProfile("Lisa").removeFriend("Curtis");
If I assign the strings to variables such as-
String name = "Lisa";
String fName = "Curtis";
and then plug those into the same line of code, it does not work
faceData.getProfile(name).removeFriend(fName);
What could be causing the problem?
I even added some lines to print out what is stored in the variables to verify that they are what they should be, but for some reason the variables do not work while putting the strings in quotes does. Any ideas?

I guarantee that something about your assertions are incorrect. Those variables are either not equal to the values you claim, or something else is going on. But it's not a problem with string variables versus string constants.
Edit: My best guess in lack of a real example from you, is that the strings in question have non-printable characters in them, such as trailing spaces or line feeds.

TPC 2012 - Problems with shared variable

Hi,
I tried to program simmilar thing to this one http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5548 on TPC 2012. But it doesn't work.I can see that both programs on my laptop and TPC are working(I've added an additional counter with display), but I cannot see any effect on TPC when I change the value of shared variable on my laptop. I use LabView 8.6 with Touch Panel Module. My question is what are the exact steps to run such application on TPC2012? Are they the same as for TPC 2006?
I've noticed following issues:
1.I cannot deploy the program from Project Manager(there is an information that maybe TPC Service is not started. - I've found such information about TPC Service http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/DE177828D27A14A48625734E00768B66 but in fact I cannot find Start » All Programs»National Instruments » NI TPC Service » NI TPC Service Manager 1.0 Does it mean, that the TPC Service is not installed and the programm with shared varibles won't be working or can I start it somehow in another way? Do I need to have TPC service installed on TPC2012?
Until now, I've built the project and sent it through FTP to TPC(the folder was /TEMP) and then started it.
2.Ping works OK

Formula node with global variable

Hi,
I am tring to use formula node with global variables as an input and output,
but this is where I see the SW hangs forever.

Well, the first case of the two loops has a direct LabVIEW translation like this:
However, just because that's the direct translation doesn't mean that's what you should be doing. In the formula node it seems as if you were copying elements from one array to another. Element-wise operation on arrays via loops can be quite inefficient in LabVIEW. Often one can operate in place with arrays, and an operation that would require two loops in a language like C would actually require no loops in LabVIEW. In fact, with the above example, even if you were to use loops, arrays can auto-index for-loops so you don't even need to wire the constants to the N terminals to tell the loop(s) how many times to run.
Can you describe what you're trying to accomplish? There's likely to be a more natural way to do it in LabVIEW that would require no loops. Have you gone through the tutorials? You can also look over the material in the NI Developer Zone's Learning Center which provides links to other materials and other tutorials. You can also take the online courses for free.

Problems with /tmp variable

Hi,
I'm writing a shell script and I seem to be having problems with a variable that is creates a directory in the /tmp directory. Essentially, there are several points where various parts of the script call out information that gets exported to that directory. My script is failing upon creation of this directory, is there any specific permissions on the /tmp directory in mac that would need to be set before something like this occurred?

Maybe you could post your code, that way we can see how you're trying to create the directory and may be able to spot the problem. As it is we're working blind, and that's not easy.

Problem with environment variables

When I run foo.java I get this error, which i believe is because of some kind
of problem with environment variables.

just to check whether two paths of jdk bin folder is causing problem but I see no change.

Creating single executible with global variables

I am trying to create an executible with global variables. I dynamically load the source file but when I run the indicator does not update unless I run both VI's together. Is the executible require different inputs during creation?

Comma problem with global string variable

Hi,
I'm fiighting with comma problem for global string variable. I've on page string for example "7nndqrr52vzyb,0" and by dynamic column link I'm assigning this string to global variable. Then I'm trying to display value of that global variable on another page but I see only string till comma, nothings more. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong because when I'm trying to assign that value normally by computation process as a constant value is fine and see on another page correct string. I'll be really glad for help.

When it tries to display the string, it sees the comma and wants to believe the string is terminated. You could escape the , in the string or replace it with a different character..

Adding tab to typedef tabcontrol causes class conflict with global variable

Hi,
I am quite new to labview. I have to update an existing program and I have a problem whith a tabcontrol. In attachement, I give you a very simple solution showing my problem.
I have defined a simple tabControl in a typedef ctl. I had it to a VI and in block diagram of this VI, I want to fill a global variable with this control and this global variable is set as "Include Data Type".
When creating my ctl file with a simple tabcontrol, there is no problem but my tabcontrol only contains 2 tabs. When I use "Add page after" in my ctl file to create a third one, after saving, I get a class conflict error on wire to global variable in my block diagram.
If I remove added page, all is OK again. I don't understand why adding a new page causes a class conflict. In my attachement, it is very simple but in program that I have to modify, I already have 15 tabs and I just want to add a 16th one so, I am sure there is a mean, but impossible to fond it after many hours...
If someone can tell me how to make my example works with "Include Data Type" (if I remove it, it always works but that is not what I want) and adding an additional tab, it would hemp me a lot!

The problem is that the tab is an enum, and you can't wire two strictly typed references of two different enums together, because they are considered different data types. What you can do is right click the reference control in the global variable and select Show Control, which will show the data type of the reference. You can then replace the control inside the reference with the typedef, which will cause it to update correctly.
Although that will solve the problem, if you have the reference to a tab control in a global variable, you probably have some issues with your code, but that's not something which can be commented on without more details.

Problem with application-variables - CFLOCK?

Hi,
i have a problem with my application. It is a multi-user
application with 100 parallel-users and CFMX 7.
The problem wich occures is with application variables. These
are mainly structs wich get filled onApplicationStart(). The
problem is, that the variables suddenly disappear, they are empty.
I have read about CFLock and found out, that it is necesseary
to use cflock. And i found out, that onApplicationStart does
correct locking automatically. That is where i do not understand
the problem. The variables get intialized correctly and in further
they only get read-access. Why can they be corrupted?
My other question about that is, wheather i need cflock for
all Read-Access to Application and Session-Variables, even if there
happens no writing to the variables?

Well, OK, that could be a problem. Arrays are not structs:
they are two
different things, are not interchangeable, and have
completely different
sets of functions to utilise them. You cannot treat a struct
as an array.
If CF is claiming your "struct" is an array, then it actually
*is* an
array, not a struct.
What's the line of code which is generating that error?
I suppose one could get this error if you have an array of
structs thus:
myArray
.key1
myArray.key2
(etc)
and you're trying to reference it with a numeric key rather
than by key
name, eg:
myArray
[n]
When n is an integer value, rather than a string (which
corresponds to the
name of the key).

request one. It's pretty easy for you to test this though, I

One thing I will say here is that I really think you should
be separating
your processing from your display. A function should do
processing. it
should pass that processing back to a CFM template which
should handle
whatever needs to be displayed on the browser. Although
that's nowt to do
with your current issue.

Problem with hierarchy variable while displaying query in Portal

Hi,
I came up with an problem with a query in the portal. The problem is :
I have one query which is displayed in the portal. The Query has hierarchial selection criteria. I am executing the same query using analyzer. Its taking the variable from the selection and displaying it on the analyzer. I have used the option to " display the query on web " from the BEX query designer. From there its opening and displaying the results with the given selection criteria.
Where as when i open the query seperately in portal, its not displaying the results.
I came to know from one of my colleague that the porblem is with the Web item and the hierarchial variable declared in WAD was different from the variable declared in the BEX Query designer.
I never Worked with WAD. I tried finding out the variable definition. But i was unable to find out where the Hierarchial variable was defined.
Please help me out regarding the same.
