Problems with several statements in one servlet

Hi!
I use the jdbc:odbc bridge driver, and an Access database. I'm making a webshop, and everything is working except for one thing: I can't insert several OrderItems at the same time.
I have a basket structure, where I have several OrderItem objects. In these objects, I have product_id, price, quantity etc in each object.
My database have to related tables, Order and OrderItem. I first insert a new order into the Order table. That works. Then I try to read the Order table to find the highest Order ID, which will then be used when I insert data into the OrderItem table.
The problem is that if I add any more statements to the same servlet, I get a Invalid Cursor type error.
This is the code that works:
try {
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Network");
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
java.util.Date date = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(date.getTime());
String strDate =String.valueOf(sqlDate);
stmt.executeUpdate("INSERT INTO Order2(CustID, Ordertime) VALUES("+id+", '"+strDate+"');");
stmt.close();
conn.close();
}catch (Exception e){
     out.println("Error: " + e);
This is the code that doesn't work:
try {
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Network");
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
java.util.Date date = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(date.getTime());
String strDate =String.valueOf(sqlDate);
stmt.executeUpdate("INSERT INTO Order2(CustID, Ordertime) VALUES("+id+", '"+strDate+"');");
Statement stmt2 = conn.createStatement();
ResultSet rs = stmt2.executeQuery("SELECT Max(OrdID) as max FROM Order2");
//this will be used to insert the OrderItems
int MaxOrderID = rs.getInt("max");
rs.close();
stmt2.close();
stmt.close();
conn.close();
}catch (Exception e){
out.println("Error: " + e);
This is the error I get:
Error: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Invalid cursor state
I've tried using the same statement, using another connection, closing the first statement before I create a new one etc. But nothing works.
Any suggestions?
Any help appreciated!

Simply try after your INSERT a dummy query like
"SELECT 1 FROM <yourtable>"
I'd be interested if it helps.

  • Problem with READ Statement in the field routine of the Transformation

    Hi,
    I have problem with read statement with binary search in the field routine of the transformation.
    read statement is working well when i was checked in the debugging mode, it's not working properly for the bulk load in the background. below are the steps i have implemented in my requirement.
    1. I selected the record from the lookuo DSO into one internal table for all entried in source_packeage.
    2.i have read same internal table in the field routine for each source_package entry and i am setting the flag for that field .
    Code in the start routine
    select source accno end_dt acctp from zcam_o11
    into table it_zcam
    for all entries in source_package
    where source = source_package-source
         and accno = source_package-accno.
    if sy-subrc = 0.
    delete it_zcam where acctp <> 3.
    delete it_zcam where end_dt initial.
    sort it_zcam by surce accno.
    endif.
    field routine code:
    read table it_zcam with key source = source_package-source
                                                 accno  = source_package-accno
                                                 binary search
                                                 transportin no fields.
    if sy-subrc = 0.
    RESULT  = 'Y'.
    else.
    RESULT = 'N'.
    endif.
    this piece of code exist in the other model there its working fine.when comes to my code it's not working properly, but when i debug the transformation it's working fine for those accno.
    the problem is when i do full load the code is not working properly and populating the wrong value in the RESULT field.
    this field i am using in the report filter.
    please let me know if anybody has the soluton or reason for this strage behaviour.
    thanks,
    Rahim.

    i suppose the below is not the actual code. active table of dso would be /bic/azcam_o1100...
    1. is the key of zcam_o11 source and accno ?
    2. you need to get the sortout of if endif (see code below)
    select source accno end_dt acctp from zcam_o11
    into table it_zcam
    for all entries in source_package
    where source = source_package-source
    and accno = source_package-accno.
    if sy-subrc = 0.
    delete it_zcam where acctp 3.
    delete it_zcam where end_dt initial.
    endif.
    sort it_zcam by surce accno.
    field routine code:
    read table it_zcam with key source = source_package-source
    accno = source_package-accno
    binary search
    transportin no fields.
    if sy-subrc = 0.
    RESULT = 'Y'.
    else.
    RESULT = 'N'.

  • Problem with printing more than one page (ghostscript broken?)

    Hello,
    since one of the last package updates I have problems with printing more than one page. The print problems occurs as well with pdf files as well with printing websites. I use an actual KDE system with commercial turboprint printer driver. The first page always prints fine, but all consecutive pages are corrupted.  As from a similar problem some months ago, I assume a broken ghostscript package. I tried to downgrade ghostscript to check that, but I get depency problems:
    root@arch32 dieter]# ls -l /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ghostscript-*
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root  9906288 21. Mär 2010  /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ghostscript-8.71-3-i686.pkg.tar.xz

    Fehler: Konnte den Vorgang (Kann Abhängigkeiten nicht erfüllen) nicht vorbereiten
    :: libspectre: benötigt ghostscript>=9.00
    [root@arch32 dieter]#
    Anyone else having printing problems or a solution for my problem?
    Thanks, Dieter

    This may not be related but I had a problem printing a pdf today whereby the second page got corrupted. The same pdf had printed fine several months ago. I realised that (long story) for some reason I had switched drivers (HP printer) from hpijs to hpcups. I installed the printer again as a "new" printer using the hpijs driver and it printed properly this time.
    So it may be that the bug causes issues with some drivers. You could try an alternative driver for the printer as temporary workaround?

  • Problem with starting more than one SwingWorker

    Hello
    I wonder if anyone could tell me if there are known problems with starting more than one SwingWorker thread at once?
    In response to an action the user performs, I need to obtain several lists of things from the server. This includes a couple of server-calls, and I want to do the server calls in a thread outside the awt-event thread. So I start a couple of SwingWorker-threads. This works fine sometimes, but not always. Sometimes code in some of the SwingWorkers finished method does not update the ui. I can see that the correct calls are made, but the ui is still not updated correctly. The problem seems to be related to the sequence of when the different thread are finished. For instance, if the sequence is like this:
    SwingWorker1.construct
    SwingWorker2.construct
    SwingWorker1.finished
    SwingWorker2.finished
    Things go fine, but if the sequence is:
    SwingWorker1.construct
    SwingWorker1.finished
    SwingWorker2.construct
    SwingWorker2.finished
    the ui-updates in SwingWorker1.finished is not done correctly.
    Can anyone help me with this?

    This is the point:
    In one SwingWorker thread you have 1 construct method, and 1 finish method - which are both invoked once.
    Therefore you only have one opportunity to update the gui in that thread. This forces you to use many threads if you want regular updates, which I try to avoid.
    Therefore, the solution!
    Have a loop in the construct method that executes the algorithm accordingly, updating the gui accordingly at regular times, maintaining just the 1 thread - becomes easier and nicer for the programmer and the JVM.
    The finish method in this case is to update the gui when all iterations are finished.
    There is nothing wrong with this. Just because you have a finish method that is called in the event-dispatching thread doesn't mean that all your update code must be in there.
    What you MUST ensure is that ALL your update code is executed in the event-dispatching thread, that is the most important thing. After all, SwingWorker is just a helper class, not the gospel template of how to update a gui.

  • Problems with multiple idocs in one file ( Inbound file )

    HI,
    Thanks in Advance for your suggestions.. Highly appreciated.
    We have problems with multiple IDocs in one file.
    We are using XIB ( Amtrix ) as Middleware to receive the files.
    Curretenly When the file contains one IDoc then there is no problem. IDoc is created and everything is ok.
    If file contains two IDocs ( for example two messages ORDERS and DELVERY ) then it is creating two IDocs but both IDocs contains ORDERS plus DELIVERY segements information. That is the problem. Some how SAP unable to differentiate the IDocs in the file.. But it knows that how many idocs are there in the file..because it is creating exact number of idocs.
    We are using TRFC port ... Do I need to change it to File port..
    When we have more than one idoc do we need set any parameter in the file ...

    Thanks for the swift response. Always ideas are useful.
    As of now , Middleware cannot split the file.
    Thing is SAP is creating two Idocs with different message types. Problem is First IDoc contains ORDERS message type but also DELIVERY segments as well. Second IDoc with DELIVERY message tyoe but ORDERS segments as well... This is the problem... I think we are missing some field activation in file for EDIDC record.
    As far as I know file port supports the number of IDocs in one file.. Hope TRFC port also supports that

  • Is it possible to make master pages with several  title in one file? & Can I define page range from

    Is it possible to make master pages with several  title in one file? & Can I define page range from which page to which should be specific title?

    While the number of master pages is not unlimited, you can have quite a few in any file. I've never seen the limit documented, but it's in the hundreds, or more likely thousands. There is, I believe, a page limit of 9999 pages per document, but I don't know if that includes the masters or if they are counted separately.
    You can choose a page range in the Pages panel, then assign a master to them manually, and I beleive there are some scripts floating around that can assign a master page based on the appearance of a paragraph style (for chapter start pages, for example).

  • Problem with Assigning more than one value to GROUP dynamically

    Hi,
    I have a problem with assigning more than one value to GROUP varible dynamically.
    I am able to assign only one value dynamically through Initialization block
    I have even tried with the ROW-WISE initialization blocks..
    using this query..
    SELECT 'GROUP', G.GROUP_NAME
    FROM GROUP_MAP G
    WHERE G.USER_NAME = ':USER'
    if GROUP_1, GROUP_2 are two groups to be associated,
    through this, i'm getting " GROUP_1;GROUP_2 " into GROUP variable ( seen from Narative view )
    And the properties and securities of this Groups are not inherited.
    Please let me know if there is any other way to Populate the GROUP variable dynamically with more than one value.
    Thank you.,

    Hi,
    i finally got in this way..
    i had created a function which takes USER_NAME as input and returns a string that contains the GROUP names with semicolon delimeted..
    Though it is same as that of ROW-WISE initialization,
    the properties of those groups are also being inherited..
    Now, i can assign more than one groups and its properties to a user dynamically.

  • Problem with Decode statement

    Hi
    I am trying to achieve the following in my report:
    If an employee has a surname of . (dot) or a first name of . (dot), the report should not display a dot. An employee's name is made up of surname, first name and middle name which should all be concatenated together. To try to achieve this, I have the following statement in my report:
    decode(e.Surname, '.', ( LTRIM(RTRIM((INITCAP(e.FIRST_NAME)))||' '||INITCAP(e.MIDDLE_NAME)) ) ,
    e.FIRST_NAME, '.', ( LTRIM(RTRIM((INITCAP(e.Surname)))||' '||INITCAP(e.MIDDLE_NAME)) ) ,
    ( LTRIM(RTRIM((INITCAP(e.SURNAME )))||', '||INITCAP(e.FIRST_NAME)||' '||INITCAP(e.MIDDLE_NAME)) ) ) as emp_name
    FROM Employee e
    Problem: The above statement is only working for those employees with surname of . (dot). It's not working for first names of dot. How can I use the decode statement OR is there any other way of doing it without using the CASE statement?
    It seems my decode statement doesn't work with 2 different fields (surname, firstname) being tested within one decode statement.Thanks.

    Thank you so much InoL . I have used the ltrim with Replace but now have a new problem.
    Because I am joining Surname, First name and middle name together and put a comma after the Surname, the name now appears as follows:
    , Maria Ane (if Surname is a dot)
    Boiler, (if first name is a dot)
    I would like to get rid of a comma and only have comma when surname or first name does not have a dot, i.e. for those people with full names e.g. Blake, Anna Marie.
    InoL, how can I achieve this? Thanks.

  • Problem with switch-statement & ä, ö, ü

    Hi all,
    I am doing this Java online tutorial right now and have a problem with one of the exercises. Hopefully you can help me:
    I have to write a program that determines the number of consonants, vowels, punctuation characters, and spaces in an input line. I found a solution, but have two questions about it:
    •     I’m unable to calculate the amount of umlauts (ä, ö, ü). Somehow the program doesn’t recognize those characters. Why?
    •     In general I’m not very happy with this huge list of “cases”. How would you solve a problem like this? Is there a more convenient/elegant way?
    Thanks in advance!
    Write a program that determines the number of consonants, vowels, punctuation characters, and spaces in an input line.
    Read in the line into a String (in the usual way). Now use the charAt() method in a loop to access the characters one by one.
    Use a switch statement to increment the appropriate variables based on the current character. After processing the line, print out
    the results.
    import java.util.Scanner;
    class Kap43A1
      public static void main ( String[] args )
        String line;
        char letter;
        int total, countV=0, countC=0, countS=0, countU=0, countP=0;
        Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
        System.out.println( "Please write a sentence " );
        line = scan.nextLine();
        total=line.length(); //Gesamtanzahl an Zeichen des Satzes
        for (int counter=0; counter<total; counter++)
          letter = line.charAt(counter); //ermitteln des Buchstabens an einer bestimmten Position des Satzes
          switch (letter)
            case 'A': case 'a':
            case 'E': case 'e':
            case 'I': case 'i':
            case 'O': case 'o':
            case 'U': case 'u':
              countV++;
              break;
            case 'B': case 'b': case 'C': case 'c': case 'D': case 'd': case 'F': case 'f': case 'G': case 'g': case 'H': case 'h':
            case 'J': case 'j': case 'K': case 'k': case 'L': case 'l': case 'M': case 'm': case 'N': case 'n': case 'P': case 'p':
            case 'Q': case 'q': case 'R': case 'r': case 'S': case 's': case 'T': case 't': case 'V': case 'v': case 'W': case 'w':
            case 'X': case 'x': case 'Y': case 'y': case 'Z': case 'z':
              countC++;
              break;
            case ' ':
              countS++;
              break;
            case ',': case '.': case ':': case '!': case '?':
              countP++;
              break;
            case 'Ä': case 'ä': case 'Ö': case 'ö': case 'Ü': case 'ü':
              countU++;
              break;
        System.out.println( "Total amount of characters:\t" + total );
        System.out.println( "Number of consonants:\t\t" + countC );
        System.out.println( "Number of vocals:\t\t" + countV );
        System.out.println( "Number of umlauts:\t\t" + countU );
        System.out.println( "Number of spaces:\t\t" + countS );
        System.out.println( "Number of punctuation chars:\t" + countP );

    •In general I’m not very happy with this huge list of “cases”. How would you solve a problem like this? Is there a more convenient/elegant way?I've been doing this a lot lately myself evaluating documents with 20 or so million words. Few tips:
    1. Regular expressions can vastly reduce the list of cases. For example you can capture all letters from a to z or A to Z as follows [a-zA-Z]. To match a single character in a String you can then make use of the Pattern and Matcher classes, and incorporate the regular expression. e.g.
      //Un-compiled code, may contain errors.
      private Pattern letterPattern = Pattern.compile("[a-zA-Z]");
      public int countNumberOfLettersInString(final String string) {
        int count = 0;
        Matcher letterMatcher = letterPattern.matcher(string);
        while(letterMatcher.find()) {
          count++;
        return count;
      }2. As mentioned above, Sets are an excellent choice. Simply declare a static variable and instantiate it using a static initializer block. Then loop over the String to determine if the character is in the given set. e.g.
      //Un-compiled code, may contain errors.
      private static Set<Character> macrons = new HashSet<Character>();
      static {
        macrons.add('ä');
        macrons.add('ö');
        macrons.add('ü');
      public int countNumberOfMacronsInString(final String string) {
        int count = 0;
        for(char c : string.toCharArray()) {
          if(macrons.contains(c) {
            count++;
        return count;
      }Mel

  • Performance problem with MERGE statement

    Version : 11.1.0.7.0
    I have an insert statement like following which is taking less than 2 secs to complete and inserts around 4000 rows:
    INSERT INTO sch.tab1
              (c1,c2,c3)
    SELECT c1,c2,c3
       FROM sch1.tab1@dblink
      WHERE c1 IN (SELECT c1 FROM sch1.tab2@dblink);I wanted to change it to a MERGE statement just to avoid duplicate data. I changed it to following :
    MERGE INTO sch.tab1 t1
    USING (SELECT c1,c2,c3
       FROM sch1.tab1@dblink
      WHERE c1 IN (SELECT c1 FROM sch1.tab2@dblink) t2
    ON (t1.c1 = t2.c1)
    WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN
    INSERT (t1.c1,t1.c2,t1.c3)
    VALUES (t2.c1,t2.c2,t2.c3);The MERGE statement is taking more than 2 mins (and I stopped the execution after that). I removed the WHERE clause subquery inside the subquery of the USING section and it executed in 1 sec.
    If I execute the same select statement with the WHERE clause outside the MERGE statement, it takes just 1 sec to return the data.
    Is there any known issue with MERGE statement while implementing using above scenario?

    riedelme wrote:
    Are your join columns indexed?
    Yes, the join columns are indexed.
    You are doing a remote query inside the merge; remote queries can slow things down. Do you have to select all thr rows from the remote table? What if you copied them locally using a materialized view?Yes, I agree that remote queries will slow things down. But the same is not happening while select, insert and pl/sql. It happens only when we are using MERGE. I have to test what happens if we use a subquery refering to a local table or materialized view. Even if it works, I think there is still a problem with MERGE in case of remote subqueries (atleast till I test local queries). I wish some one can test similar scenarios so that we can know whether it is a genuine problem or some specific problem from my side.
    >
    BTW, I haven't had great luck with MERGE either :(. Last time I tried to use it I found it faster to use a loop with insert/update logic.
    Edited by: riedelme on Jul 28, 2009 12:12 PM:) I used the same to overcome this situation. I think MERGE needs to be still improved functionally from Oracle side. I personally feel that it is one of the robust features to grace SQL or PL/SQL.

  • Problem with logical statements

    Hi all!
    we have a problem with BI Answers filter.
    Our customer have a complex filter like ((EXPR1 AND EXPR2) OR (EXPR3 AND EXPR4) ...)
    BI Server rewrite this expression on physycal layer as ((EXPR1 OR EXPR3) AND (EXPR1 OR EXPR4) AND (EXPR2 OR EXPR3) AND (EXPR2 OR EXPR4) ..)
    Because original filter is big and complex, in the 'BI style' it's size is greater then 500 kBytes, and physical query (Oracle database) execution time is about 2 hours, while with WHERE expression written in initial style the query executed in few seconds in SQL+.
    How can we suppress BI Server from transformation of logical OR statements?
    thanks

    hi,,
    the star schema is correct, ----> ok
    the columns selected did not affect execution time --> ok , try to build it step by step(one column at time)
    the query from BI log in other SQL client executed by the same time --> you mean 2 hours??as Bi?
    the problem is that in normal style query script size is few kBytes and WHERE statement consists of about 50 logical parts }
    and after BI transformation query script size is 0,5 MBytes and WHERE statement consists of about 3000 logical parts } ---> try to ckeck your logical
    statements again.it is not possible that.ckeck the groups that exist in filter section///are these the one you need??
    Last, i mentioned have you tried the direct sql query in the answers section??what about the time there???
    +
    There is a tab when you make the report-------Criteria results Prompts and !!!Advanced!!
    Check Advanced , the sql issued..
    i hope i helped

    Hi, I have the same problem when working with local Sap B1 client and DB on the local computer (and connecting as a superuser). Can anyone help?
    May be this additional info will help to determine the problem:
    when working with SAP-client on the terminal server via remote desktop (and DB is on another server) and when I try to update FormatFilePath (in File Formats Setup window), SAP-clinet hangs on (for approximately 10 minutes ) and then I see that no changes were saved (I see button "Update" again, while expect to see "OK", and no changes were saved to DB). There are no error or warning messages..
    When I am updating FileFormat without setting FormatFilePath-column - everything is ok. (info about FileFormat is updated)

    Is it an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro you have (with the external dri've)?
    Did you check the mixer settings when you connected your mic? As long as the recording source is set up correctly you should be able to record from that input. Did you test that with a standard computer microphone aswell? You mentioned you have several mics.
