Problems with Tru64 UNIX 5.1b PCI-GPIB driver development

I am using your NI488.DDK product to develop a PCI-GPIB device driver for Tru64 UNIX 5.1b3. I have experience porting other device driver from 4.x to 5.1b and thought that this would not be too hard.  The driver that I have developed loads and configures ok.  It allows for the IBFIND of /dev/gpib0 minor #255 to work fine because a bus table is built for it during the probe/attach. When I try an IBFIND on /dev/gpib_dev/dev1 I get an error from ni_Cp2BusPtr for minor #51 because no table is created for the devx devices during driver initialization. I don't see where this was done in the example ib.c code provided for Tru64 Unix 4.x,  am I missing something?

This is really an update to my original posting for those of you who may have similar concerns.
The source code provided as part of the NI488DDK kit is not really a fully functional driver with the same capabilities as they provided in the device driver that they devloped for Tru64 UNIX 3.x and 4.x.  The the "ib" commands supported by the DDK driver is a subset of the entire ni488 suite.  None of the device specific "ib" command are supported, neither is ibask.  Device commands are written to the bus as character strings that contain device addresses and command.

  • Problem with DAQmx and Real Time PCI-7041/6040E.

Problem with DAQmx and Real Time PCI-7041/6040E.
I have a problem with the Real Time card PCI-7041/6040E, I think it is properly installed because my software run with the traditional NI-DAQ. When I try to use the new DAQmx to acquire one signal, Labview doesn't see any device for de DAQ card 6040E.
    Information, I work on Windows XP and LabView v7.0.0 (NIDAQ RT v7.0.0, NI-Serial RT v2.5.2, NI-VISA v3.0.1 and NI-Watchdog v2.0.0).
Could Labview RT run with new DAQmx ?
What can I do to use DAQmx with PCI-7041/6040E?
    Thanks for your help !

    Hello,
I refer to your posts because i am using the PCI 7041/6040E card as
well but without any success to make it work. The problem I have
already described in the following thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=120198
Would be nice if you had a look on it, maybe you can help me. BTW, the
thread starts with a problem of someone else, the difficulties I
encountered are to be found a little bit to the bottom of the thread's
    page.

  • Oracle Performance problem in Tru64 Unix

    Hello All,
I am having performance problem in Tru6u Unix. Details are mentioned below :
    OS: Tru64 Unix
    Oracle Version : 8.1.7.4.0
    Forms : 6.0
    Mode: Oracle Parallel Server
When, developers are trying to save some data using forms, it's taking too much time.
Any hint/idea, how to start tracking the things, will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Rajeev Tomar

Check what are the session waits from v$session_wait and try to tune them.
If possible, get the code and tune the sqls.
Without knowing the application behaviour and other related stuff, no one can simple adice on performance problems.

  • Nigpib-linux PCI-GPIB driver does not work on RedHat 8.0

The PCI-GPBI driver for linux (nigpib-linux) can't be installed on Linux RedHat 8.0. The first error is a reference to "malloc.h" having to be replaced by "slab.h". Then, the module compiles, but it has to be loaded with the "force" option, by replacing all instances of "insmod" in the "INSTALL" script by "insmod -f". When loading there is an error message that the kernel is compiled with gcc 3.2, but the module with gcc 2.9, and this is known "not to work". One can load the kernel module with "insmod -f", but when running "ibconf", "insmod" is used when saving the configuration, so there is an error message again. The solution to this problem is probably to compile the source code for the driver (supplied by NI a
s a binary) with gcc 3.2. It would be so much easier if NI opensourced the entire driver.
Can NI compile a binary against gcc 3.2 on RedHat 8.0??
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards, Erwin

Ok, my bad. Apparently the gcc3 compilied driver has
been available since Jan 2003. Here is a link:
    ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/gpib/linux/nigpib-linux-0.8.3.tar.gz
I should think NI could use a better naming convention to
flag this a bit better. (Like nigpib-linux-gcc3-x.x.x)

  • How do I verify what PCI GPIB driver I'm using?

    I have NI-488.2 Software for Solaris 2.x PCI-GPIB
Version 2.2, but when I do a pkginfo on my
Sunblade 100 Workstation running Solaris 8 I see
    GPIB-ENET Handler ver. 1.3. Maybe I'm confused,
but are they(the handler and the driver) the same
thing? That being said, my communication is really
slow. This is a new workstation, new PCI card, and
the old SparcStation 10 with the SBus performs better.
I'm not certain of my configuration. The things in
ibconfig look greek to me. Any clues to what I should
    try.
    TheDuke29

You have correctly identified your driver version (2.2). I'm not sure why you are getting slow communication with your new PCI-GPIB card. I would recommend taking a look at the Knowledge Base linked below for more information on getting the fastest GPIB communication possible. Some settings may need to changed in your configuration.

  • Problem with BSOD/Freezing probably related to Nvidia driver on Touchsmart IQ810

I have an HP Touchsmart IQ810, now a little elderly but otherwise going strong.
For the last couple of years now I've had a problem with occasional/frequent BSODs, one or two a week. Using crash  dump analyser WhoCrashed this is almost certainly related to the driver for onboard Nvidia 9600GM video chip. The usual advice is to make sure you have the latest driver, but I've tried more recent drivers and they seem to make the problem worse - rather than BSODs, I get screen freezes at least once a day, so I've gone back to the old driver version.
I've run the hardware diagnostic tools and found no problems, I've even tried using MSI Afterburner to turn down the clock speed of the card to prevent overheating, but this makes no difference. BSODs/freezes sometimes occur not long after booting, so surely it can't be overheating.
I've pretty much had to put up with this but I would like it fixed. Any suggestions?

NVIDIA and RADEON Drivers, depending oin what they are doing can really point you in the right spot. If you are still having issues after fully removing and reinstalling the drivers then you are looking towards a Hardware issue. I would check the contact points on your motherboard and other hardware, this is looking more like an issue with your motherboard.
The biggest problems for example when it comes to computers with RADEON cards, because they are big like the NIVIDA cards; just moving your computer or bumping it can cause damage to your componets within your computer and cause issue like this. RADEONS cards are known to have screen tearing and different colored lines through the screen, another thing I would check is to make sure the swtich or voltage on you video card isn't flipped. If the switch is flipped the wrong way, if you end up forcing your card to hard with the little voltage it has running through it your computer WILL BSOD and MSI Afterburner won't even matter, usually voltage is a setting that you don't want to mess with when it comes to using that program, that is why they make switches on these cards.
If it was a driver issue, your machine won't not be BSOD. The reason why I say that is because BSOD happens to help you prevent further damage to your hardware and if the correct settings are not how they should be, something as simple as skype can cause your machine to do thing's it shouldn't. I've had many issues myself that I've gone through, being in the IT field as well I've seen this to be a common issue due to changing configurations or changing what you do on your computer.
You may of not changed anything but just a simple virus can cause programs to do what they are not meant to do.
Boot into safemode and see if you run into this issue still after running it for a few hours, with safemode as you know. You boot with the processes that you need to run the core functions of your computer. If nothing happens it is because your computer has taken a chill pill. If everything is good and you boot into your main OS then you start having this issue again then you know it IS hardware and setting's related. Little thing's like this will make a hug difference.
The switch also is verd had to find but it will be very small and colored white, if you still have the box you video card came in they should have it pointed out where it is.
I hope this helps, if you have any questions please ask.

  • Problem with Java 5 and Oracle 10g JDBC driver

    Hi All,
Currently we upgrade our web application to Java 5 and Oracle 10.2 JDBC driver. And we encountered a bug, when the user entered the information through UI and data didn't store into database (Oracle 9i). The problem is that this bug is not happend so often maybe once a day and this did not happen before we upgraded to Java 5 and Oracle 10.2 JDBC driver. Does anyone encounter the same problem ? Is this Java 5 problem or Oracle JDBC driver problem ?
    Thanks,

    sounds like a database problem...
Are you using a driver version that's supported for your database engine?
What else did you change? We once ran into a major bug in our application that had for 5 years been masked by performance problems in our hardware and infrastructure.
Once those were resolved the bug showed itself and caused tens of thousands of records to be erroneously inserted into our database every day.
It's certainly NOT a problem with your JVM (if it's a decent one, like the Sun implementation).
So it's either your database, your driver, your network (dropping packets???), or your application.
The upgrade may just have exposed something that was already there.

  • Problems with set up disc after upgrading hard drive

I am having problems starting up my Macbook after upgrading the hard drive from 80GB to 160GB.  The new hd is SATA, a WDScorpio.  The pins on the end look the same, and I've had no problem with the physical install.  When I go to start up the Macbook, I get a gray screen and the "flashing manila file w/a question mark" icon.  I load the disc while holding down the "C" key, and all that happens is the disc gets ejected.  What am I doing wrong?  I also have my hd backed up w/time machine in an external hd.  Any ideas?

Turns out, my problem is a malfunctioning optical drive. My Macbook couldn't read the set up disc. This is the second time in a week that I have had this Macbook into the apple store for warranty repair work. Last week, It was a defective VGcable. Each trip to the Applestore is 115 miles round trip from where I live. I tried to get Apple to give me a new computer, but no dice. I even had a district manager in Boise Idaho hang up on me. It's too bad when they know they have a product which everyone loves, and wants to use. They can set the terms. How many things must go wrong before they just replace the @#$# thing? I bought the Macbook Feb 12th, so it's not that old. I have handled it with the utmost care. Anyway, I've tasted the forbidden fruit, and will continue to use Apple products. Thanks for your help. I'll probably have a much easier time with a computer that works. (knock on wood)

  • Problem with Flexmotion 7344, UMI 7764 and servo driver parts

Hi to all of you, I've a great problem with my motion system.
    This is formed by:
    1.Flexmotion 7344, cable and UMI 7764 (NI-kit)
    2. 2 servomotor and 2 incremental encoder
    3. 2 Motor drivers
The problem is that the motor drivers (AXOR MICROSPEED) can' t work with the NI-kit, sometimes the motor go and sometimes not, so the repeatabitlity is very very low.
I work a lot trying to solve this but i suppose that the PID of the driver runs counter to the PID of the Flexmotion.
This thing was confirmed by the NI Italy staff. They tested the system and comfirmed my sensations but i had not any feedback about the type of drivers that i' ve to buy to work with my system.
I try to attach the datasheet of the motors and the encoders at the post.
If any one can help me in some ways i thank a lot. If necessary is possible to contact me by mail at [email protected]
    Motor type: 17PL085
    Encoder type: EH17 M500 Z 5 P 6 X 3 P R 7 8
The last important thing is that the system with this configuration of motors, encoders and drivers worked in the past with the old NI flexmotion 6C.
What we would do is to mantain this configuration of motors, encoders and drivers but substitute the old flexmotion with the new.
    Thanks to all.

    Andrea-
Yes.  According to the datasheet, that drive can be ordered in different versions.  There are different options like control mode and feedback type.  Please give us your part number.  Typically, position controllers expect the drive to accept a torque reference(+/10V).  It is possible to use it in velocity  mode, but you need the differential option.  If that is the case, then you have 2 PID loops to worry about and tune.  One in the drive, and one in the controller.

  • Problem with contribute 3.11/flashpaper 2 printer driver

I have problem with the contribute 3.11 and flashpaper 2
printer driver. When I try to install it to my lab under domain
enviroment, that mean multi user will use the same computer with
differ user right. The problem is, when user with admin right log
into the domain and left click on any file the first time,
contribute install a new flahspaper driver, eg. macromedia
flashpaper, macromedia flashpaper (copy 1), macromedia flashpaper
(copy 2) etc...another problem is, when the user with domain user
right login the computer, when they left click on any file the
first time, contribute try to install the flashpaper printer driver
for them, but since they are not allow to install any printer
driver, the message," you do not have primission to install the
printer driver etc" pop up and it only pop up once.
Are there anyone have the same problem? Anyone know how to
fix it? Thank you for the help in advance.

    Hi,
Please check with in your environmental variable whether JDK is 32 bit or shifted to 64 bit.
It seems even though you have 64 bit still it is taking 32 bit only.

  • Problems with adding Library for a MySQL JDBC driver

    Good day,
I am new with the JDeveloper package, so the following could be a user fault.
    I found the following:
    - I downloaded and installed Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.10 (latest version).
    - I downloaded the latest JDBC drivers for MySQL. ( mysql-connector-java-3.1.10 )
Now, I did the following steps extracted from the link http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/duff/mysql_and_oc4j3.html it should be quite easy to add the JDBC Drivers to the project.
I did the steps with the following results:
When I Edit the Project properties, follow Profiles -> Development -> Libraries
When I do ' New' , fill in at JS2E the value 'MySQL' and fill in the Class Path (in my case 'C:\javaInstalls\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar').
In that case the [OK] is disabled. I should expect the [OK] button was enabled!
My question: Is this a bug? When not, what am I doing wrong!
    Regards,
    Mike

I tried it on an other system and had no problems with adding the libraries. It still is a problem on that particular system using the Dutch version of XP. The problem is that the Ok button stays disabled !
Could it bw a version problem with Java? How ever no changes are made to the original configuration, so it should pick up as default the java version of JDeveloper self.

  • Problem with X99S GAMING 9 AC - PCIE-PORT reporting V1.1 same with SLI

Yeah as the topic is saying, I got issue with my PCIE 3.0 ports, they are saying my grafic cards are running at x8 1.1
I should first mention that I had these issues for a while, and I also updated all drivers to the latest versions, but still same issues. I got the 1,4 bios version for the motherboard and the nvidia V344.65 that was released today.
I tried to change it in bios from auto to gen 3 on the PCIE-ports, but still same results.
I made a post earlier about that SLI running slow in WoW and 3Dmark Firestrike. Maybe this is the source to the issue due to the ports running at 1.1 and not 3.0?
Also, in both WoW and 3Dmark Firestrike, I get much higher FPS and results with just one grafic card activated, when I go into SLI the results drop like a rock..
The weird thing about SLI though, that it seems to work okay in games like Diablo 3 ROS and 3Dmark11.
I have my grafic cards in the recommended PCIE-ports, 1 and 4.
Here is a screenshot how it looks like in GPU-z:
Is this a known issue and is there any upcoming fix to this? Feels really bad I can't use my grafic cards to their fullest potential..
    My whole computer setup:
    Intel i7 5820K | MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC (bios 1.3) | SLI MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4GB | Samsung 850 Pro 512 GB | WD Red 4TB | G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 3000MHz 4x4GB | EVGA SuperNOVA P2 1000W | Noctua NH-U14S PnP | Fractal Design Define XL R2 | 5 Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm fans | Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

Quote from: Svet on 12-November-14, 23:58:15
its probably because the render test doesn't handle or don't support SLI well and second card become back to idle
run something else apps., bench or games who support SLI well then check their modes
Enable sli load balancing if needs from nvidia control panel to check SLI utilization
Seems to work the correct way when I start a game, but still got issues with WoW and 3Dmark firestrike. My results with SLI is far worse then with just one single card activated. Anyone know why?
I get more FPS from WoW with one card then two, and I get much higher score in 3Dmark firestrike with just one card..

  • Solaris 2.5.1 Supported with 2.3 NI PCI GPIB driver

I looked all over the NI site for what versions of solaris are supported with what driver version numbers.
Is 2.5.1 AKA 5.1 supported with NI driver versions 2.2 and 2.3?

    Hi,
The NI-488.2 for Solaris, v2.2 requires Solaris 2.5.1 or above, and the NI-488.2 for Solaris, v2.3 requires Solaris 2.6 and above. You will see these messages when you start up the installers. You are right that this information should be more clearly available at the website, at the download pages and perhaps in KnowledgeBase, too.

  • Cluster problems with Tru64.

    Hi,
    I have just installed 9.0.1 on Tru64 v5.1a (on a 2 node cluster).
When I try to run svrctl I get the following error:
    no name for node 4
(I get this message If I run 'svrctl' from either node in the cluster)
    - What does this mean & how do I fix it?
    Many thanks

    Hi Donald,
It does not matter if I give srvctl any params or not I always get the same message. I also get this message If I try and run dbca also.

  • Problem with system recovery for a new hard drive in my Pavilion p6210y Windows 7 Premium 64bit

I decided to swap out  my hard drive when my computer would fail to start up or crash right after starting. Diagnostic tool at startup said the hard drive was faulty and other times I would get BIOHD-1 and BIOHD-2 errors. I replaced the old WD Caviar Blue 640GB with a new Caviar Green 1TB. I ordered and received from HP a system recovery disc set which included five discs labeled:
    Use This First! System Recovery,
    System Recovery 1:1,
    SYstem Recovery 1:3,
    System Recovery 2:3, and
    System Recovery 3:3.
After putting in the new hard drive I used the "Use This First!" disc and everything seemed to be going fine. The scene showed "Loading Windows" or something like that. After about 10 minutes the CD drive opened and the Monitor showed three images: a big green check mark which I assume meant everything was good up to that point; a graphic showing the removal of the first disc; and a graphic showing three discs to be put in. Wondering whether to put in the System Recovery 1:1 disc or the System Recovery 1:3 disc, I noticed that the drive bay closed with the "Use This First" disc still in. I managed to get the Drive to open after pressing the open button quite a few times. I closed it with the 1:3 disc and nothing happened (no light showing activity in the DVD drive). After a minute or so I managed to get the drive open again after quite a few times pressing the open button. I put in the 1:1 disc and still nothing. At this point I could only open the drive bay with a paper clip in the release hole. With the computer unresponsive and the monitor still showing the same as when the first disc came out, I decided to turn it off with the "Use this First!" disc in the drive hoping to start from the beginning again. Now the directions that came with the HP System Recovery discs state:
CAUTION: Do not turn off the computer, or use the keyboard or mouse during this time. Doing so will interrupt or damage the software installation.
Now when I turn the power on I get either:
the HP blue screen with the green hand, (F11=system recovery), (F9=Diagnostics), (F10=Setup) and (ESC=Boot Menu). pressing esc, F9, F10 or F11 does nothing.
Or the HP blue screen appears and then almost immediately goes to the black screen with " Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot media in select Boot device and press a key". I've gotten this scene while trying almost every System Recovery disc in the drive. Hitting a key does nothing other than repeating the same message.
Once I got a "The file is corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computer checksum" error. That appeared only once in about 30 try's.
The open DVD drive button works sometimes and not other times. I can't seem to figure out a pattern for when it will work.
I don't know whether I might have accidentally moved the mouse or hit the keyboard during the first attempt. Can I  do something to the new hard drive to get it back to a state where it can start from the beginning again? Might it be a problem other than the old hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Satellite L505D-S5983
    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
Yes, of course! See the link to your model's spec above.
My apologies. The previous link went to a spec for the Satellite A505-S6960 (which came with Windows Vista installed). I had too many spec pages open at the same time and got them mixed.
So, are you telling me that I won't get this one to work?(the BPKT)
No. But you may face the problems that I outlined in this message.
