Problesm reading from a txt

I need to read a file like this:
LINKCONEX=COM5:115200,N,8,1.5
LINKTYPE=0
I think to read it with a StringBuffer and searching the "," ant then getting each value in a variable.
But I think that there should be something easy and more efficient.
Can anyone help me?

import java.io.FileInputStream;

import java.util.Properties;
public class Test {
     public static void main(String[] args) {
          Properties props = new Properties();
         try {
              props.load(new FileInputStream("filename.properties"));
              String s= props.getProperty("LINKCONEX");
              String[] array = s.split(",");
              String COMport=array[0];
              int velocity=Integer.parseInt(array[1]);
              char parity=array[2].charAt(0);
              int Data=Integer.parseInt(array[3]);
              int Stop=Integer.parseInt(array[4]);
              s = props.getProperty("LINKTYPE");
              array = s.split(",");
              int Type=Integer.parseInt(array[0]);

  • Reading from a .txt and displaying in XY graph with time stamp

    Hi,
    I am a newbie to LAbView. I need to read from a text file having two columns, one carrying the temp value and other the time stamp. I need to plot this in XY graph on a real time basis. Please help as how can I do this..
    I am attaching my files for your reference.
    Thanks in advance

    So what is the question about... I have to use XY graph in my program. It is used in Loop while cycle. It shows the statistic of a variable. I am using cursors in this graph to check the actual value of a variable in different period of time. But there are 7 variables and it is extremely hard for user to check each value independently. So I tried to make them moving on the X axis (TIME) together using the property node (cursors reading the position (only X axis, Y axis status lock to plot) of the major cursor and follow it... Everything looks great? But it did not work when I am trying to move the major cursor manually on graph... It works only when I am using the cursor movement buttons... But they work very slowly when there is a lot of data in graph.
    I want to find out is it possible to make seven coursers mouthing together By the X axe and be Locked each at its plot by Y axe manually (Using mouse moving on a graph). Is it possible? If it is than how to do it?
    Hello Shidla,
    The attached VI should help give you an idea of how to create a VI that allows all cursors to move together. The main idea is to keep track of the current location of all cursors and move all of them when you see a change in one's position.
    Good luck with your development.

  • I need help for reading from a .txt file.

    My goal in this program is to display the data from the text file to the command prompt. Everything compiles, but its doesnt display the data.
    It probably has to do with my constructer. So help with revising the constructing would be appreciated. I am new to programming by the way.

    Mike,
    you were right, you may not specify the extension of a file.
    Another thing i detected is that the loop of my data start with the index 1 instead of 0 !!!
    In this scenario, i have to read all the lines of the file and each time i should do a SQL-query,
    so that i can use the result to build my sales document.
    Do you know if it this is possible or have you any idea how to do this ?
    thx,
    Mario

  • Read numbers from a .txt file and display them in a graph

    How can I get Labview 7 to read from a txt. file containing a lot of
    coloumns with different datas? There`s only two of the coloumns that are
    interesting to me, the first, that contains the time of the measuring, and
    one in the middle, that contains the measured temperatures. I want Labview
    to read this datas and display them graphicly.
    Thanks from Stale

    Here's one way.
    You can also use the help-> find examples and search for "text".

    Hi,
    I want to read from a .txt file having two columns separated using tab delimiter on a real time basis. I am trying to buld a temp data logger. Also I have multiple senors to take input from. I need to have a select button on front panel and want the graph to be displayed for that senor only. I have around 20 temp sensors. I need to select which temp sensor graph is currently displayed . please help!!! Also how can i attach a file to the messages I post here!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated..

    The stack of buttons is simply an ARRAY of boolean controls.
    Your approach with multiple cases is a dead end. Forget it when the number of cases is larger that a few.
    After a look to your data file, I have a few questions/comments:
    1/ Is there any reason not to process the data BEFORE storing them in a file ? That is to say in a REAL real time basis ?
    2/ instead of using the military time format, which requires some preprocessing before storage, and some post processing for reading the data, why don't you use a more convenient format ?
    3/ There are five columns. Are columns 4 and 5 for sensors 3 and 4 ?
    4/ The temperature data seem to vary a lot within only 20 secs. Is this normal ? Or is this the result of strong noise ?
    Attached is a vi which show how to read sensor 1 against time. I think you will succeed in embedding it in my previous vi. If not, that means simply that you really have to spend more time studying LabVIEW basic programming techniques. You are lucky there since a/ you have a project, b/ you found NI forum to get answers to your questions

    Why are you creating the score array inside he while loop? What's that for? It looks like it's for all the scores, but if you have 3 lines, then you're creating 3 different scores arrays--one with 1 element, 1 with 2 elements, and 1 with 3 elements.
    For all but the last one, you're creating it, populating the last element, then throwing it away.
    For the last one, you create it, populate the last element (leaving the first three with their default value of 0) and then that's what gets printed.
    When you have this kind of problem, print out a bunch of relevant stuff (and even some stuff that you think is not relevant) at each step of the way, so ou can see what your code is doing. Yout THINK you know what it's doing, but obviously you're mistaken. If you can't figure it out from staring at it, then you'll have to let the code itself tell you what's really going on.
    You'll have to create the array before you start the while loop, which means you'll have to know ahead of time how many scores you have, or know some maximum that you could possibly have and make it big enough to hold that many.
    Or,instead of an array, you couse use a List, such as java.util.ArrayList.

    The problem is in the delimiters in your text file. By default, Read From Spreadsheet File.vi expects a tab delimited file. You can specify a delimiter (like a space), but Read From Spreadsheet File.vi has a problem with repeated delimiters: if you specify a single space as a delimiter and Read From Spreadsheet File.vi finds two spaces back-to-back, it stops reading that line. Your file (as I got it from your earlier post) is delimited by 4 spaces.
    Here are some of your choices to fix your problem.
    1. Change the source file to a tab delimited file. Your VI will then run as is.
    2. Change the source file to be delimited by a single space (rather than 4), then wire a string constant containing one space to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi.
    3. Wire a string constant containing 4 spaces to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. Then your text file will run as is.
    Depending on where your text file comes from (see more comments below), I'd vote for choice 1: a tab delimited text file. It's the most common text output of spreadsheet programs.
    Comments for choices 1 and 2: Where does the text file come from? Is it automatically generated or manually generated? Will it be generated multiple times or just once? If it's manually generated or generated just once, you can use any text editor to change 4 spaces to a tab or to a single space. Note: if you want to change it to a tab delimited file, you can't enter a tab directly into a box in the search & replace dialog of many programs like notepad, but you can do a cut and paste. Before you start your search and replace (just in the text window of the editor), press tab. A tab character will be entered. Press Shift-LeftArrow (not Backspace) to highlight the tab character. Press Ctrl-X to cut the tab character. Start your search and replace (Ctrl-H in notepad in Windows 2000). Click into the Find What box. Enter four spaces. Click into the Replace With box. Press Ctrl-V to paste the tab character. And another thing: older versions of notepad don't have search and replace. Use any editor or word processor that does.

    I need to add a txt file that has the Exchange aliases listed to the below file. So if the .txt file is sitting in c:\temp\readme.txt how do I incorporate into the following script. Given, I only want the outcome to read from only the txt file.
    $mailboxes = Get-Mailbox -RecipientTypeDetails UserMailbox
    ForEach ($mailbox in $mailboxes) {
      $FilePath = "\\server\folder\" + $mailbox.PrimarySmtpAddress.Local + "@" + $mailbox.PrimarySmtpAddress.Domain + ".pst"
      New-MailboxExportRequest -mailbox $mailbox -FilePath $FilePath
    Thank you for your time.
    Chris

    Thank you -
    You're welcome.
    I need to make sure that when the user from the list is exported to .pst it is named with their primary smtp address? Will the above code do so?
    No, it won't. This adjustment will take that into account:
    $aliasList = Get-Content .\aliasList.txt
    foreach ($alias in $aliasList) {
    $mbx = Get-Mailbox $alias
    $filePath = "\\server\folder\$($mbx.PrimarySmtpAddress).pst"
    New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox $alias -FilePath $filePath -WhatIf

  • Populate a table reading the data from a TXT file

    how can I populate a table reading the data from a TXT file?
    thanks

    Hey Kevin!
    Using FORMS.TEXT_IO to bulk load data from a file strikes me as re-inventing the wheel. It is just about justifiable in a self-service environment, but I regard the EXTERNAL TABLE is a better solution for that situation as well.
    The same applies to UTL_FILE. I think the ability to read text with UTL_FILE is primarily intended for read file-based configuration or file manipulation/processing rather than data loading.
    Re-writing a text file into SQL statements is too much like hard work (even with an editor that supports macro definition and regular expressions) for no real benefit. You lose all the bulk load peformance you would get from SQL*Loader. But for QAD I'd probably let you off with it.
    You missed out one obvious alternative: using Java to turn the contents of an XML file into a CLOB and inserting it into a table which is read by a PL/SQL procedure that parses the XML records and insert the retrieved data into a table.

  • Code to read local notepad.txt from applet

    Hi.
    Further to my (unanswered) queries about reading a notepad.txt file from the local directory i.e. the same directory from which the html and applet were launched, the following code is supposed to be able to read the local file. It failed to do so both in Netscape 7.1 and in IE5
    I've also received conflicting advices : some says we can read local files without using a signed applet or chaning the ACL, whereas others I'll need to use signed applets and / or acl to allow the applet to read a local file.
    My research has shown that java applets are supposed to be able to read local files. Has something changed:
    public class FileAccess extends Applet
       implements ActionListener {
       Button loadButton, saveButton;
       TextField filename;
       TextArea  content;
       String browserName;
       boolean securitySupported = false;
       public void init() {
         setLayout(new FlowLayout());
         Label label =
           new Label("Simple file editor");
         add(label);
         loadButton = new Button("Load");
         saveButton = new Button("Save");
         add(loadButton);
         add(saveButton);
         loadButton.addActionListener(this);
         saveButton.addActionListener(this);
         filename = new TextField(20);
         add(filename);
         content = new TextArea(5,20);
         add(content);
         browserName = System.getProperty("java.vendor");
         if (browserName.indexOf("Netscape") > -1)
            securitySupported = true;
         setSize(200, 200);
       public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt)  {
         if (securitySupported) {
            if (evt.getSource() == saveButton) {
               PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalFileAccess");
               try {
                  FileWriter aWriter = new FileWriter(filename.getText(), false);
                  aWriter.write(content.getText());
                  aWriter.flush();
                  aWriter.close();
               catch(Exception e) {
                 e.printStackTrace();
            else if (evt.getSource() == loadButton) {
               PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalFileAccess");
               try {
                  BufferedReader aReader  =
                     new BufferedReader
                        (new FileReader(filename.getText()));
                  content.setText(aReader.readLine());
                  aReader.close();
               catch(Exception e) {
                 e.printStackTrace();
          else {
            getAppletContext().showStatus("security not installed");
    }

    Hi acinhk,
    I read your note with great interest. I am trying to solve almost exactly the same problem as you are -
    Reading a .txt file in IE5 from the same directory where the html and the applet were lauched.
    Your code looks fine to me.
    My code is very similar, and again generates a security exception - as I am having the same problem you had getting around Java security.
    If you have been able to solve the problem, can you please let me know what you did.
    Any modifications to your sample code that actually made it work would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, is signing the applet to read a local file under IE5 really necessary ?
    Can the file be read from the local IE file system without signing the applet ?
    Please let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks !
