Method 1 :
With SQL Server 2005,
when you start installing cluster service pack (or hotfix), it must be launched on the active node(node
that hosts the instance). When installing the Setup will launch simultaneously "remote silence" on all passive nodes. All nodes in the cluster containing the SQL Server instance are updated in the same time.
Method 2: First you can install in passive node then you can install in the active node, In this way you can save your down time ( If you start in the active node it will check in the passive, and if its installed already then it skips that
and start applying in the active node ), but most of the DBA's follows only first method because they may not aware of this or just they follows Microsoft common method.
SQL 2008 and Later....
1. Apply the hotfix on pasive node N2
2. Reboot the passive node N2
3. Failover on SQL resource : the passive node become the active node
4. Apply the hotfix on the passive node N1
5. Reboot the passive node N1

Receipt process for damaged items when account assignment exists
HOwdy all,
Assume we have a PO for 100 items at $x. The PO is account assigned to an order (work order, production order etc).
When we are doing the receipt step, we find that 50 of the items are damaged. What is the normal process in SAP for this. I know for stock (i..e no account assignment) that we would receipt into GR - Blocked Stock. However, when receipting for an item with an account assignment this does not appear possible - is this true?
YOur best suggestions appreciated...Returns PO is required when the PO against which the material was initially received is closed. Means PO qty equal to GR qty equal to IR qty and payment is already made but later it is found that some material is not as per required quality and vendor is agreeing to replace the material. then a seperate returns PO is required as you cannot return with reference to the original PO.

Notification[s] for handling Complaing and CAPA handling process in Pharma
SAP QM-QN facilitates work flow process, task monitoring, solution database and FMEA process for handling complaints and CAPA processes. BUT the current fields and reports configuration do not support specific-requirements of regulatory/organization-.
What are the implications of of customizing the "fields", "work flow" and "reports" inline with the FDA requirements. i.e.,
1. huge number of fields have to added in the notification initiation section which are different for each CAPA process [complaint, deviation, incident]
2. multiple work flow process for each category of CAPA process.
3. multiple reporting requirements for each instance of CAPA record. etc.,
request your comments/guidance on the impact during the life cycle viz., "while upgrading the current versions to next level" etc.,

Workflow process does not restart when re-ordering a PO
We are running SRM 7.0 with Process Controlled Workflow and have configured N-Step approval process for PO.
When the PO is ordered for the first time, the approver determination and the approval process work as expected. However, after the PO has been ordered, and the user makes changes to the ordered PO and re-orders it, the PO's approver list does not get refreshed, and the PO header shows the following staled information in "Approval" tab with "current status" = "Finished" -
Process Step Status Processor
SRM Purchase Order Approval Approved <approver user name>
And the PO would go into "Awaiting Approval" status but the PO work item does not appear in anybody's UWL.
Any hints regarding the possible cause of this behavior are appreciated.

check in the BBP_PD the changed version po generated. there you will see if any WFL started or not. Or take the PO change version GUID and go at SWI6/swi1 to check the WFL log.
At SLG1 should appear also, check if at table /SAPSRM/C_WF_CST you have the trace level set to 1. This will make slg1 take all logs (green and red).
You can also always force a restart via BADI /SAPSRM/IF_EX_WF_PROC_RESTART

Cache issue coming in Start Process for Employee iView under MSS
Hi,
Navigate to MSS -> Team -> HCM Process and Forms -> Start Process for Employee
In Start Process for Employee iView, when I clicks on Refresh link at the bottom right of the table the Direct Reports got removed from the table (which is correct) but when I navigates to some other screen and comes back then again the previous data comes back. It seems to be cache level issue. Even I logs off and login the same data comes back which should not happen.
I have checked the forum [Team=>Personnel Developent=>Employee Search; and found it that Refesh property will work if I set the parameter of iview Cache Lifetime = -1 then it will disable the caching at all.
And I wants the same behaviour for Start Process for Employee iView. But I am not able to find the similar property in Start Process for Employee iView.
Anyone have an idea of What is the resolution for this issue?

now I understand your problem )
To me it sounds like an OADP cache issue rather than one in Portal. The iview uses OADP which again uses the cache which does not reflect on the actual current org-structure.
One possibility would be enhancing the WD4A and call FMs

HRWPC_OADP_DELETE_NAVOBJCACHE
HRWPC_OADP_DELETE_DATAVWCACHE
dependent on what you want to delete to refresh.
I would probably try to enhance HookMethod WDDOINIT in Component Controller and call them there, but that's just a guess; could be complete nonesense.
Another possibility would be trying to add the application parameter "sap.xss.req.crt.cachelifetime=0" to the iView.

Many Patch/Upgrade Questions/Processes for SAP Systems
Hello, I am trying to wrap my head around the patching/update process in SAP. I am familiar with how to use SPAM and SAINT, but my questions are more about the process as a whole. Here are some of my concerns:
- Do you update the OS or SAP first?
- Do you just apply only OS Service Packs or do you do all security patches as well?
- Should kernel updates be done before or after database patches?
- How do I update the kernel on a cluster?
- Should you go to the latest database patches available or go to a certain level?
- Are some areas more important to update then others?
- How are all of our customizations (1000+ in ERP) handled by the patches?
- What if we implemented an OSS Note that is fixed in a support patch?
- How do we test to ensure we are not doing damage?
- Can you uninstall security patches?
- Is there a way to know what t-codes are affected by the updates?
Just for reference, we are running an ECC 6.0 system on Windows 2003 x64 servers, with a MS SQL 2005 db. Our Prod environment is running in high-availability via MS clustering services. Your input on these questions is appreciated.Hello Techies,

Custom Pre Process Event Handler in OIM 11g for middle initials

I am trying to congiure a Custom Pre Process Event Handler for generating middle name in OIM 11g and I am following the steps as given in metalink ID: *1262803.1*
Even after successfully performing all the steps I am not able to get the middle initials in Admin Console when I create a new user.

You mean to say i should not copy the entire package in lib but only the jar file of the CustomPreProceessEventHandler.class* file.
If i put only a .jar file in lib i get the following error.
"Error occured during the use of plugin registering utility. The plugin zip does not contain the definition of plugin class com.example.custompph.CustomPreProcessEventHandler"

I did this and now my videos are not working. They show the pictures aren't there on some and on others it shows they are there, but doesn't show them in the player. When I try to Share anything it just says Waiting for Processing for hours. What do I do?

Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue. -
Page Process Does Not Work When Column for APEX_ITEM.HIDDEN is not shown
I have created a Report Region based on a SQl Query. In the query I have three columns that need to be within an array, but 2 of the 3 columns should not be displayed on the report. Therefore, I don't have Show checked for them in the Column Attributes of the Report Region.
In my testing, if I don't display the columns that are within the arrays on the report and run the page process to insert records into a table, I receive the error of "no data found". In reverse, if I display the columns, my insert is successful.
Is this how the arrays work? Or is there something I have not done correctly.
Below is the query for the Report:

If you uncheck the "show" option, then the corresponding HTML for that item is not rendered on the page. Thus, when you try to inspect that item via APEX_APPLICATION.G_F02, it simply doesn't exist.
One trick that I use when I want to have hidden items on the page, but not make them take up any space, is to concatenate them to items that will be visible.
Using your query as an example, I would re-write it like this:

Post Process Event Handler not getting user's CURRENT_STATE for a UDF field
I have a post process event handler in OIM R2 BP04 , which runs on Trusted Reconciliation and it compares user's ("CURRENT_USER") state and ("NEW_USER_STATE") and based on that derives a business logic.
The problem that i am facing is that, it is not able to get the User's ("CURRENT_USER") state for a UDF(EMAIL_LIST) field and it is coming as null,and hence is breaking the business logic.The same Event Handler is working on TEST and QA ( 4 node cluster)environments and is not working on PROD environment( 4 node cluster).
The different thing that was done on was that during the initial recon the event Handler was not present and after the initial load of the users i have manually executed the database sql query which have updated the "EMAIL_LIST field manually for all the users
I think that since during the initial recon as the EMAIL_LIST was not populated and was populated through the SQL update for all the users, the orchestration inter event data does not contain email list, and so it is coming as null.
But i am seeing the same behavior for new records as well, which are created and then updated after event handler is registered.
Please reply, if you have encountered something similar.

Archiving process for batch and handling unit
Hi Guru,
Need your help in achiving process. I would like to achive batch and handling unit information in SAP. Is it possible that, I can just achive these information without archiving sales order, inbound delivery, outbound delivery and etc document ?
If there are 3 line item in sales order document, only 2 line item are shipped and 1 still open, for this scenario can the batch and handling unit information be archive. Or all the line item for that sales order line must completed then only can be archive.

LH.unfortunaltey to archive boms you have to archive alle predecessing documents before you can start this one.
go to transaction SARA for object MM_SPSTOCK and click the button for 'Network Graphic'. it will tell you very colourfull what you have to do before attempting to archive boms.
same goes for handling units, object LE_HU. Check in SARA.
