Project management arranging images

1) Trying to arrange images for a slide show presentation. Created Smart Album based on ratings. Most images RAW, some imported transparency scans in PSD format. When sliding images around for layout, some work fine, some either refuse to move or go to a different place than the green bar indicator. When that happens, the green bar stays in the "move to" location I designate but the picture stays put or shows up in some unrelated place. When I click on the green bar it disappears but does not affect the location of the chosen image. One of the images that consistently refuses to move properly is one that was cropped (in aperture) - no other edits. The others that won't cooperate had not been edited
2) Importing the scanned transparencies, all were scanned with same settings on Nikon scanner into PSCS2. All imported into Aperture but one. It opens fine in Photoshop. When I reformatted it as a Tiff file, Aperture would accept it.
Any help?
G5 2.3 2.5RAM/PowerBkG41.67 1.5RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Only 153 images in the Smart Album so that shouldn't be a big issue. I have noticed the cropped image takes forever to load when selected. (I had that problem with another image that I'd used the straighten tool on - the unedited master pops open instantly, the straightened one took literally minutes.) However that would not explain the other few images that were unedited and wouldn't tolerate rearranging, or the green bar staying in the move spot.
The scans were all done at one sitting. I did not edit in PS so there were no layers. Isn't Aperture supposed to flatten an image on its own before importing?
Thanks for fiddling with this.

  • Images are missing in Project Manager

I’m replacing old images with new ones in RoboHelp HTML 10.
I’ve deleted the old pictures in Design view and pasted the new pictures in. (I know this is not the recommended way but with lake of time I found it to be the fastest way and we don’t feel the need to give the files described names at the moment.)
It has worked fine until now when I noticed that some images are not showing in Project Manager. I see the “folder” Images and I see a lot off images there but some are missing. The “missing” images are shown in Design view and in the browser after publishing. But in the report Unused files the “missing” images are listed as unused.
    I have tried to
    close and reopen the project,
    generate and publish the project,
delete an “missing” image from Design view and insert it by using Insert / Image. After saving this image, and some other “missing” images, are shown in Project Manager. But not all “missing” images.
Does anyone know why this is, or more important how to get Project Manager to show all images that are used in the project (without having to go through all 154 images trying to figure out which are used but “missing”)?
    Some more facts:
    They are all gif-images.
They are all stored at the top-level in the project folder. (Are there a limit how many images there can be in the top-level folder?  Should I create a separate folder and move the pictures there?)
    HTML-code for one “missing” image:
              <img src="image7.gif" alt="" style="border: none;"
                     border="0" />
    Grateful for any input!

I would have said "Try renaming the folder containing the images in Rh's Project Manager. That sometimes fixes the problem. You can revert to the old name afterwards."
Keeping all the images, and / or topics, in the root is never a good idea. It can slow things down and it's messy.
You can move the images you can see but obviously you cannot move the others. Try moving a topic that has one of the images to a different folder and see if that refreshes. Also try deleting the CPD file and reopening Rh.
    Backup first.

  • Images no longer showing in Project Manager panel, but in project RH8

In a project with 2400 topics and 3400 images we decided to move the images to a project_images folder so we could just remove the html folders in Production when we update.  Drag & drop images from previous location to new folder...forever!  All was good...Then we shut the project and opened it back up again and only 6 images now display in the Images/project_images folder.  In Windows Explorer all 3400 are there.  If you go to a topic in RH the images display - with the right paths.  They are picked up appropriately when you compile.
They just don't display in the Project Manager panel...making it very difficult to drag them into topics!
    We have tried:
    1.  Deleting the .fpj file in the project_images folder and adding a new image hoping it would rebuild itself
    2.  Tried renaming the project_images folder to something else - RH HATES that and just hangs.  I gave it overnight to figure it out...it never unhung.
    3.  Tried creating a new folder - again RH hangs and must be manually ended
    4.  Moved a topic with images to another location - topic moves fine.  Images move...but do not show up under Images
    5.  Imported a topic with images - the new images show fine...the old ones still are invisible.
This is two days of work moving the images...we hate to start over and have no idea if it will do it again.  We did this on another project - same problem - but moving a folder resolved it.  That is not working here.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!  RH 8.02.208

Wow, what a hassle.  I never saw this issue until we upgraded to RH9 and tried to use the resource manager to link images.  I've never been as frustrated with RoboHelp as I am now after fifteen years of using it.
We've always had an "images" folder within the root of our projects.  We never saw this "image disappearing" problem until now.  After pulling my hair out for a couple of days, I think I have nailed down why this is happening (aside from the .cpd clearing).
Envision a project structured like so:
    Root Folder
       |---Folder A
       |---Folder B
       |---Images Folder
              |---Folder C
              |---Folder D
If I drag/drop a new image from the resource manager into a topic that resides in Folder C or Folder D, the image is placed in the root of the project.  Okay, not ideal.  Why don't images dragged/dropped out of the resource manager retain the resource manager's folder structure?  Another post for another day...
Regardless, I want to move the image to my images folder.  If I then drag/drop the image from the root of the project folder into the Images Folder, the rhsharedresource.apj is updated, and the link is retained no problem.  All right!  This is what I want to see, as I already have too many snippet files doomed to be in the root of the project because they can't be moved and are already causing lag when opening and working in projects.  Another post for another day...
As long as the new image is only referenced in topics residing in or beneath the Images Folder in the project's structure, the image will never disappear from
the project manager, even when the.cpd is cleared.  This is because the topics referencing the image in the Images Folder are within the Images Folder's folder structure.
If the image added is then added to any folder above the Images Folder in the project's structure -- Folder A or Folder B -- the next time RoboHelp is closed and reopened (if you have clear the .cpd checked in RH Options) the image is gone.  BAH!  GAH!  UGH!
Remove the reference to the image from the topics in Folder A or Folder B and the image reappears in the Images Folder the next time RH is opened.  Wow, magical!
So, if you never move an image from the Root Folder of the project, you will never see the image disappear from the project manager because it is at the highest level possible and every folder within the project will be beneath the image in the folder structure.
Sure, if the image disappears, you can rename the folder, add a topic, etc. the project manager refreshes and all of the images magically reappear.  But, as soon as you close RoboHelp and clear that .cpd, they're gone again.
That's what I've found.  Too bad we personally can't restructure the projects we're working on because of a dim-wit Dev call forced on us to use static URLs instead of map IDs to call the topics.
Anyway, I am thinking a project structured like this is now the way to go:
    Root Folder
         |---Images (aka Resources) Folder
                  |---Topics Folder A
                  |---Topics Folder B

  • The order of topics in the Project Manager is not reflected when creating a PDF for review.

Can't seem to find an answer to this in the forums...
    Using RH10.
In the Project Manager pod is a default 'Project Files' folder.
Within that I have a 'Topics' folder in which my topic files reside.
Under the View menu, I have selected 'By Topic Title'. I understand that this displays the topics by their title as opposed to their file name. I understand that this is a display toggle only, and has no relation to the order of the topics - the alternative toggle is 'By File Name'.
Notice in the image below, my topics are displayed by topic title, but aren't in alphabetical order. ...yet.
There's a button at the top of this window for changing the sort order to 'Sort by Name', which has the result below.
Ok, so now the topics are displayed by topic title, and in alphabetical order.
Question 1: If that button toggles the view to display topics in 'alphabetical order', what on earth is the other order called? It's certainly not in order of file name, as I've checked a bunch of the topic filenames, and can't see any pattern/order to the this structure.
Question 2: When I go to create a PDF for review (via Review > Create PDF for Review), the window that appears displays all the topics available to me to select for review. However, they're displayed in this other 'odd' sort order instead of 'alphabetical' order. The Help menu says that this window reflects the order of topics as it finds them in the Project Manager. However, what seems to be actually happening is it's displaying the topics based on the view you have selected under the View menu (i.e. either 'View by Topic Title' or 'View by File Name'), and regardless of which view toggle you have selected, the order of the topics is only ever this 'odd' sort order. In other words, in the 'Create PDF for Review' window, it appears I can never see the topic list in alphabetical order. Furthermore, it appears that the only way I can resolve this is to go back into the Project Manager, switch to 'odd' sort order, and manually drag all the topics into alphabetical order. ...I have hundreds of topics.
Is there some way I can quickly change this 'odd' sort order to 'alphabetical'? There must be some underlying file with this order of topics in it (hopefully).

    Hi there
I don't have an immediate answer for Question 2, but for Question 1, the topic order is "User Defined" as you are able to click and drag topics to create any arrangement that suits you. This was something added as a result of user feedback. Enough users asked Adobe to allow them to arrange topics this way that they made it a reality. The logic escapes me as I'm a user that normally expects software to list things in either ascending or descending alphabetical order.
Perhaps Peter will pop in with a nice explanation of the PDF for Review sorting and Adobe's logic behind it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Project Management Wishlist (hoping for software or online solutions)

    hi all.
i've converted the office to mac over the last two plus years and need to put a second level of organization to bed.
would anyone mind helping me find other websites and/or suggestions on how to get this finalized? apologies for the length and intricacy of the post but THANKS for any help on this! even just one good lead or recommendation (say for FileMaker or one of the Devon tools could help me get moving forward with it and not have to backtrack).
i work on PROJECTS that seem to need various kinds of data. some notetaking, imagery, url's. pages documents, pages documents printed to pdf, some pdfs that others created, spreadsheets, various creative files such as CAD, photoshop, indesign etecetera - and of course email and text and phone conversations. i would really ideally love to pull all this together but of course i know this is not realistic.
i also really need to communicate some of this information with clients and have them communicate back to me, right now this is a terrible mess and extremely unproductive with widely dispersed and duplicated information (at a bare minimum).
i have finally customized my images in Aperture but still need to organize my pdf's and my videos. i also find Spotlight to be rather unhelpful for some items and in reading up on Devon, one of their tools has a /graphic/ search display that somehow shows linked items and whether they have been "read" or not. this kind of VISUAL ORGANIZATION would be absolutely fantastic [http://www.devontechnologies.com/products/devonagent/overview.html]. i should also add that what i /don't/ want to do is to have to catalog my project file by file and simply DRAGGING and DROPPING files to create a link if my ideal organizational method. tagging items with the GTD tools that i have tested is a non-starter for me and i actually don't even use tags in my Aperture database. i just drag and drop them to an appropriate Project.
currently an example workflow for my Aperture database is that i POST these images to flickr to let a client see what kind of imagery i am using in their project (but they cannot upload /their/ imagery). nevertheless, this is very convenient because i can simply create an ALBUM in Aperture and drop the (pre-organized) imagery in there and post it to flickr from within the Aperture UI. this is really great but getting this link to a client is a bit of a pain because even flickr Pro uses some silly thing where you have to decide whether the recipient is a "friend" or "family" and ostensibly anyone that gets determined as one or the other can see all the other images in this category. it would be a whole lot better if i could just create an Album for a particular client. of course it would be great to
    in any event -
in an ideal world (off the top of my head i would like) the ability to create a "Project" in my computer which organizes the following and /also/ allows me to post this to a place where Clients can have a LOGIN and PASSWORD that allows them to both view and UPLOAD information.
    1. bookmarks
    2. pdfs
    3. spreadsheets
    4. contact list
    5. images
    6. other files
    7. a lot that i am forgetting to include here.
it would also be great to be able to organize PHONE CALLS and TEXTS and EMAILS on my computer so that i can have a record of communication with and FOR this client.
i would also like to get most or much of this to my iPhone if at all possible!

Reminders (nice for the location tools but i have not maxed out my use of this tool)
Contacts (for personal contacts and syncs usually well with my laptop and desktop and iphone. however, managing email addresses in here is a nightmare for a small business)
Cardscan (for business card contacts. resides currently only on the Mac Pro and i am not sure how to get Cardscan to talk to my other devices)
    Mac Mail (meh)
Sparrow (cool and quick but somewhat feature light)
    iPhone (yes-sir-eee bob)
Safari (good at what it does)
1Password (dig the syning across devices)
    Transmit (nice FTP tool)
i also work on windows where i do quickbooks and CAD so i am open to software suggestions for windows if there is nothing for the mac (though i suspect i can do much of the above on the mac, even if i cannot corral all of it together).
THANKS FOR READING and thanks for any constructive input!

    Ipolucci,
I am a teacher and so I do not have your needs to really understand your requests.
That said, I would reccomend you FileMaker Pro and Journler ( currently at version 1.1.62, running by Mac OS X 10.3.9 , the version I have and already in versio 2.0.1 for those who have 10.4).
The first one is a relational commercial DB of an Apple subsidiary, with several template solutions ( probably one will fill your needs ) and the second one is a freeware, that has integration with Mail, Adress Book, Blogs, Photos, Audio recordings, iTunes and more.
Just in case does not come anyone else with the complete solution, you should consider a free trial of FileMaker Pro (just released the version 8.5) and take a look at Journler.

  • Exporting projects that reference images in other projects

Hello, all. I'm wondering if anyone out there has had luck exporting projects that reference images in another project. I've just given this a try, and I get empty images (dotted gray outlines that can't be multi-selected and can't be "managed" as referenced files, even though it knows where the original file should be).
Here's how I have things set up:
    1. main project with referenced images
    2. secondary project with an album that references images in the main project (secondary project shows 0 images, but album in secondary project shows N images)
I export the secondary project, and import it into another Aperture instance. All images show up as dotted outlines.
Furthermore, if I go into list view, the Activity Monitor does something bizarre. It shows the # thumbnails remaining as a moving target. See the video below for an example.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    Screen captures:
    Missing images as dotted outlines:
    http://echeng.com/temp/aperture-missing-images.png
Small video of thumbnail creating bug:
    http://echeng.com/temp/aperture-thumbnail-bug.mov

I do this sort of thing constantly and things a whole lot more complicated. It works fine on all three of my laptops and my macpro. I actually just tried to simulate the exact conditions you describe and I will tell you what happened.
1)Create new empty project in library A called "export"
2)Create new empty album in that project.
3)Dragged multiple images from different projects (all referenced) into that new album.
4)Used file->export project with the consolidate images checked. Imported that project into a new/different library.
All of the images showed up and they all showed up as managed masters as expected. So I then relocated the masters from that project and did the same thing in reverse, back to the old library. I ended up with another project called "export (1)" with all of the images referenced and having nothing to do with the original project or the original referenced masters - as expected.
I did the testing not to figure it out but to validate that nothing had changed or broken since the last update.
You are either not doing what you think you are doing or your library/library is forked - you may want to try a rebuild or just create a brand new set of libraries and try to validate that it will work with a brand new set of libraries to try to isolate the issue to 1 - your existing libraries or 2 - your installation.

  • One of the folders of Robo Help Project Manager is listed twice in Windows Explorer.

    Hello Everybody,
One of the folders of Robo Help Project Manager is listed twice in Windows Explorer. One has all the subfolders and topics of it and the other has all the subfolders but not the topics. How did I get into this kind of situation? Why do I have two folders? Can somebody please answer on this?
Since my RH project is attached to Visual Source Safe (VSS), the same structure is mirroring in VSS.

    Hi there
After reviewing the image I see that what you might think are two of the same folder are two different folders similar in name.
One is named Advanced_Functionality. The other is named Advanced_Funtionality (note the missing C).
I'm assuming this is the folder you are referring to?

  • RSC Files Not Appearing in RH Project Manager

My three-writer group has experienced a number of RoboHelp/RoboSource Control problems in the last week.
    First this is our setup:
    1. Two writers with 64-bit Windows 7, and one with 32-bit Win 7. We all have the latest patches and updates.
    2. Our RSC database is on a remote machine that has 32-bit Win XP.
After a time where our group successfully updated our project, I was given a new laptop with Win 7 (I had previously had a 32-bit Win XP desktop), we have now encountered the following problems:
    1. No one can open a RH project from version control. We go through all steps and when we open the XPJ icon it finally crashes after taskbar status messages of something like "Querying version control." It thus crashes at one of the final steps in opening a project from the database.
    2. Even on our remote machine, I cannot open a RH project from version control.
    3. For some unknown period of time, it appears that the three of us have not had our changes uploading to the database because nobody's desktop RH project looks the same. Out of the three of us, I have many--but not all--of my changes up at RSC. I have no idea where my colleagues' changes went.
    4. An unspecified number of files are listed in RSC as well in the File Status pod in RH but they are NOT appearing in the Project Manager pod. If I try to move one image file with the same name into a folder where the original should be, RH displays an error message saying that it already exists there--even though I cannot see it in Project Manager nor interface with it.
I have used RH for 11 years but RSC for just 1-2. I have never seen behavior like this before and it's really brought our entire OLH efforts to a halt. Can anyone tell me what I might do to restore, if not the database, a version of the XPJ that has as many of our changes that DID make it to RSC?
    Thank You,

  • Baggage files in folder, in rhbag, NOT shown in Project Manager

We use RH7 and have significant numbers of baggage files per project. We import the baggage files, they show up, life is good.  We drag/drop to them all over the place.  Then you rebuild the .cpd file and more than 50% of them disappear.  They are still in the folder, they are STILL in the rhbag file.  They just don't show in the project manager, which makes drag/drop pretty darn tough.  Also leads to duplicates with slightly different names as authors try to 'fix' the problem.
I painstakenly add them back in...only to have them all disappear the first time I rebuild the .cpd.  The same ones stay...the same ones disappear.
What is the issue?  This is so frustrating and there is no good answer to provide to people.
Does anyone have a solution that works?  Does RH8 fix this?  Thank you!!!!

    Hi Teri
How's the supply of Dissident going? Any left in the cellar?
Last time you had a problem project, it was the number of images behind the problem. That didn't stop the images appearing but it affected the project in other ways. You say this project has 7,000 images. Isn't that the sort of level that gave you problems before? What is the number of images in the biggest project in the merge you finally created?
Maybe the symptom is the baggage files not appearing in Project Manager but that doesn't mean they are the cause.
What is the file size of this project zipped up? No I don't want you to send it, I want to compare it with the last one that gave grief and was over 100mb as I recall.

we are using labview 8.5 and not well known source control in a team environment. I'm not sure if it is the souce control that I'm using or other searsons, but I had so much trouble using those combination. I want to know what others thought about project management and/or source control in general.

    Hi!
Actually, I've never merged, since I'm the only LabView guy on our development team
I absolutely agree with the fact that SVN is a good tool, but I should confess that I didn't spend much time in evaluating many other tools (never tried MS tools), for this I rely on my colleagues' opinion.
I can report that SVN is being used in a graphic studio for pictures versioning of course, they don't need to merge images   There's virtually no limit in SVN use...

  • Problems w/ Project Manager

    Hello everyone,
I'm working with adobe project manager and I'm running into a few issues. The purpose of using this at the local TV station where I work is to manage media and archive after a project's completion while still being able to go back in the future and have 30 frames of adjustments on the clips we used.
We recently upgraded to CC 2014 and it has not been updated since. 8.1.0 I believe is what we're running. I've attached an image of my settings and another of the issue I'm having.
    [URL=http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/nchorneyWMUR/media/premiereproblems_zps51ec0b47.png.html ][IMG]<a href='http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/premiereproblems_zps51ec0b47.png[/IM G][/URL]'>http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/premiereproblems_zps51ec0b47.png[/IM G][/URL]</a>
When I use the project manager to consolidate the project I am running into an issue with my keyable objects. As seen below that text element ceases to be keyable and becomes a large black box as it adobe has converted the keyable .mov file into file that has lost its key.
    [URL=http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/nchorneyWMUR/media/projectmanagerissues_zpsd730bc64.jpg. html][IMG]<a href='http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/projectmanagerissues_zpsd730bc64.jpg [/IMG][/URL]'>http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/projectmanagerissues_zpsd730bc64.jpg [/IMG][/URL]</a>
Can anyone please help point me in the right direction? I'd really like to be able to properly archive our projects and manage our media efficiently.
    Thanks!

Here's a shot of my timeline:
    http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/timelineshot_zps165fcc2b.jpg
Unfortunately I didn't do the project so I'm not 100% sure. Its the first shot that will not carry over after using project manager.
Here is the clip in question in my bin as highlighted:
    http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/bin_zps6c2fa66d.png
Is this something minor I should be changing? When I linked the clip in question with the other clip labelled as multicam and created a multicamera source sequence that initial clip in the new project was still grayed out like this:
    http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l518/nchorneyWMUR/grayedtimeline_zps2380beab.png
Here it is in my bin with the sequence and the clip highlighted.

  • SharerPoint V3.0, Project Management Template - Dashboard View

In the Overall Project Status, the last category to the right is the "Overdue Tasks" icon.
How does sharepoint determine if a Task is Overdue for this specific Icon.  Here is what is happenning to me:
    Current Date = 11/5/2008
Any Task with an End Date of 11/6/2008 - 12/31/2008 is fine.
However, this icon is showing a task as overdue if the date is 1/1/2009 - 11/4/2009 and NOT overdue if the date is 11/6/2009 - 12/31/2009?
The "Overdue Tasks" view is working as expected, it is showing only tasks with an End Date of Less than Current Date and not = to Complete.  Why is the icon on the Dashboard working differently?  Where is the setting for this icon located so I can change it?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Dave at MB

    Hi Dave,
I have confirmed your issue in my test environment.
The cause of the issue is the logic that estimates the Overdue items is not perfect.
You could locate the logic the following detailed steps:
    1.     Navigate to the Dashboard in Project Management Section.
    2.     Modify the Overall Project Status web part, Click the XSL Editor.
    3.     In the opening dialog window, locate to the following highlighted code:
    <!-- Overdue Tasks -->
                     <td class="ms-vb" style="text-align:right; height: 22px; vertical-align:middle;">

If you are familiar with coding, you may find the logic is not perfect.
The logic divide the date into Year, Month and Day, and then estimates separately.
As we have not announced an official update, I suggest you to amend it by yourself.
And I will give code sample written by me for your reference:
    number(substring(translate(@DueDate,'-',''),1,8)) &lt; number(substring(translate(ddwrt:TodayIso(),'-',''),1,8))
you could copy the code and replace the highlighted part.
PLEASE NOTE:  The code is not well tested, and I do not guarantee there will not be errors, so some minor debugging may be needed and you should modify based on your requirement.

  • Master Pages / Sync topic list and Project Manager

    Hi,
Is there an easier way to see if I've applied my Master page to all my topics rather than right-clicking and checking Properties for each topic?  No indication of a Master page shows up in my topic list and there isn't a report I saw to identify this.  What I have in my Master page is code so it would not be apparent by looking at output.
Also, is there a way to sync the highlighting within RH to the topic I'm working on.  For example, if I'm working in a topic and it's highlighted in my topic list, the same topic isn't highlighted in the Project Manager?
    Thanks very much,
    Sue

    Hi there
If you look at the Topic List pod you should be able to see a column labeled Master Page.
Click image below for larger view.
If you don't see this column, you might need to scroll the scroll bar to the right. Note also that you may drag the column header to place it next to the Topic name if you like. Also, you may need to right-click the column headers in order to enable the Master Page.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I arrange images by numerical order

    Hi Forum,
How do I arrange images by numerical order or alphabetical order?
Somehow my images in a Project got scrambled and they appear to be in some random order. I'd like to re-arrange them back to the original order which was in numerical sequence.
    I'm using Aperture 3.1.2.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Sort options for the Browswer are available via the drop-down at the upper left of the Browser pane.  Additionally, you can sort on any metadata you can add to List View.  There are seven Metadata Overlays, including one for List View.  Recommend customizing List View Metadata Overlay to show every field available.  In List View, click a column heading to sort (and again to reverse the order).  Once sorted this way, the column header will show as a selection in the Browser sort drop-down.
