Project Management Audio

Is there a way to just project management the Audio from a project so I can send it to mix?
Adam

Hey David, I'm sorry, I typed the wrong example in AE. In After Effects, there's an option to "Consolidate All Files." From the AE manual:
To remove all duplicate footage items from a project, Choose File > Consolidate All Footage. After Effects considers footage items to be duplicates only if they use the same Interpret Footage settings.
When a duplicate item is removed, layers that refer to the duplicate item are updated to refer to the remaining copy
I'm looking for this in Premiere, without having to copy all the source in the Project Manager.

  • Project Manager: Dealing with FOLDERS that contain audio?

    Hello everyone,
I just started using Project Manager, and I'm in the process of reorganizing files. Upon examination, I've found I dont like the current location of some folders that contain audio files and would like to move them. I know its possible to "cut & paste" audio files into new places, but the manual says nothing about folders of audio and how to move them. Is there a way to do this in PM?
Along the same lines, I dont like the names I have given to some folders and want to change them. Again, the manual shows how to change audio file names, but NOT folder names. I'm assuming folder names are just as important in searching databases correctly as file names, so is it possible to change these in PM?
The only solution I've found to both problems is to create new folders in the finder and cut/past the audio files in PM? Seems kind of ridiculous to have to use two "programs" (finder & PM) just to move/rename folders, thus I wanted to check here first and make sure I'm doing it right. Is there another way
Sorry for the stupid question. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programing...

Hmmmm... this is one of those cans-of-worms situations... The PM has a "move" function, but judging by the menu choices, no "rename" function.
If you went into an individual song and usde the "move audio file(s)" function in the audio window, you could create a new folder (with the name you want) when the file selector opens; then you've save (actually, move) the files into that new folder. Then, re-save your song/project.
The downside to doing this is that other songs (previous versions, backups, etc.) will not find those audio files any longer (because the folder that originally contained those files is now empty). So Logic will invoke the search engine/project manager to find them.
If the PM has been updated, this might not end up being a problem. But unless the names of those audio files have unique names, when you update PM, it will ask you which of the similarly-named files you want to choose to resolve the references for those other songs. It might mean that you spend a bit of time in front of the PM answering dialogs about it.
I think you have to try this out to see if it works well or not.

  • Project manager loses audio waveform

Using the Project Manager feature in Premiere 8.1, to trim and collect assets to a new folder, I noticed that my audio waveform displays are no longer visible for all footage. Only one piece of footage shows the waveform, but all others do not. The audio plays back fine, but the waveform graphic does not display in either the timeline or the source monitor. Is there a way to re-generate these waveforms?

After closing the project, quitting and restarting Premiere and reopening the project (a couple times) the project sequences finally re-drew the audio waveforms. I have seen delays in waveform generation when receiving projects from other editors. This particular project only contained a couple sequences with single test files ranging 3 to 5 seconds in length, so I expected them to redraw fairly quickly. So, it finally worked, but required quitting Premiere and re-opening/closing the project file a few times to generate audio waveforms.

  • Project Management Wishlist (hoping for software or online solutions)

    hi all.
i've converted the office to mac over the last two plus years and need to put a second level of organization to bed.
would anyone mind helping me find other websites and/or suggestions on how to get this finalized? apologies for the length and intricacy of the post but THANKS for any help on this! even just one good lead or recommendation (say for FileMaker or one of the Devon tools could help me get moving forward with it and not have to backtrack).
i work on PROJECTS that seem to need various kinds of data. some notetaking, imagery, url's. pages documents, pages documents printed to pdf, some pdfs that others created, spreadsheets, various creative files such as CAD, photoshop, indesign etecetera - and of course email and text and phone conversations. i would really ideally love to pull all this together but of course i know this is not realistic.
i also really need to communicate some of this information with clients and have them communicate back to me, right now this is a terrible mess and extremely unproductive with widely dispersed and duplicated information (at a bare minimum).
i have finally customized my images in Aperture but still need to organize my pdf's and my videos. i also find Spotlight to be rather unhelpful for some items and in reading up on Devon, one of their tools has a /graphic/ search display that somehow shows linked items and whether they have been "read" or not. this kind of VISUAL ORGANIZATION would be absolutely fantastic [http://www.devontechnologies.com/products/devonagent/overview.html]. i should also add that what i /don't/ want to do is to have to catalog my project file by file and simply DRAGGING and DROPPING files to create a link if my ideal organizational method. tagging items with the GTD tools that i have tested is a non-starter for me and i actually don't even use tags in my Aperture database. i just drag and drop them to an appropriate Project.
currently an example workflow for my Aperture database is that i POST these images to flickr to let a client see what kind of imagery i am using in their project (but they cannot upload /their/ imagery). nevertheless, this is very convenient because i can simply create an ALBUM in Aperture and drop the (pre-organized) imagery in there and post it to flickr from within the Aperture UI. this is really great but getting this link to a client is a bit of a pain because even flickr Pro uses some silly thing where you have to decide whether the recipient is a "friend" or "family" and ostensibly anyone that gets determined as one or the other can see all the other images in this category. it would be a whole lot better if i could just create an Album for a particular client. of course it would be great to
    in any event -
in an ideal world (off the top of my head i would like) the ability to create a "Project" in my computer which organizes the following and /also/ allows me to post this to a place where Clients can have a LOGIN and PASSWORD that allows them to both view and UPLOAD information.

    2. pdfs
    3. spreadsheets
    4. contact list
    5. images
    6. other files
    7. a lot that i am forgetting to include here.
it would also be great to be able to organize PHONE CALLS and TEXTS and EMAILS on my computer so that i can have a record of communication with and FOR this client.
i would also like to get most or much of this to my iPhone if at all possible!

    Ipolucci,
I am a teacher and so I do not have your needs to really understand your requests.
That said, I would reccomend you FileMaker Pro and Journler ( currently at version 1.1.62, running by Mac OS X 10.3.9 , the version I have and already in versio 2.0.1 for those who have 10.4).
The first one is a relational commercial DB of an Apple subsidiary, with several template solutions ( probably one will fill your needs ) and the second one is a freeware, that has integration with Mail, Adress Book, Blogs, Photos, Audio recordings, iTunes and more.
Just in case does not come anyone else with the complete solution, you should consider a free trial of FileMaker Pro (just released the version 8.5) and take a look at Journler.

  • Project manager can't find my songs

I have well over 100 song files on one of two internal sata drives in my mac pro. "SATA A" has my sample libraries. "SATA B" contains all my song files and audio recordings.
I want to use project manager to help identify what samples I have used with these songs. the samples are stored on "SATA A" within a huge library. The problem is that project manager doesn't seem to find any of my songs (stored on "SATA B").
I have done expanded sacans, localised/"specified where" scans. I've excluded locations and included locations but PM will not find any of my songs on my "SATA B" drive. It does however find sample data, audio, movies and everything else.
PM ~does~ find songs on my "SATA A" drive. These are songs included in my Kirk Hunter Emerald library - which I didn't even know existed! When I saw PM picked up the songs on SATA A drive I tried copying my songs to it from "SATA B". I did a full, extended scan from scratch and still my songs are not found.
I have checked their permissions. They all have .iso on the end and the finder sees them as "logic songs" via "get info". In fact they look identicle to the Kirk hunter songs that the PM sees. I have also checked sata b drive and compared to it sata a and they seem to be configured identically (bought/set-up at the same time etc).
I have tried deleting logic's pref files and PM data etc etc manually. still no joy.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong or what I can do to fix it?
About 10% of my songs (out of 100 to 150 songs) will be using exs24 samples from my sample library (KH Emerald is just one eg). I just want to save the associated samples with the songs for archiving. I do not want to have to save all my sample library with the songs if at all possible. Going through each song manually would take too long. I feel my only option right now is to save all songs and all sample library on specially purchased hard drive but I'd prefer to avoid this route. Any suggestions?
Sorry if I've asked this before but its driving me nuts.

yep, I have scanned at every level, from everything to just a single folder that contains song files. After scanning a folder that conatins songs on my SATA B drive (the one that PM can't find songs), still the songs will not appear.
I have copied over my songs to the drive that PM seems to see songs on and guess what? It doesn't see those songs copied over.
This is driving me so nuts I have forgotten that I engaged in this thread...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1046126&tstart=0
Does anyone know what the option in the PM's file menu "import file maps" and delete all exported file maps" does? Or what its for?
It feels to me that some sort of database or referrence list etc etc has gone very wrong, but I have already tried deleting (manually) the PM data file in somewhere in the library folder etc etc.
Using file buddy I see that PM stores the a PM database as an invisable file on each drive you have connected. Presumably info for what is on that drive. Perhaps these invisable files need to be manually deleted???

  • Project Manager. I'm a bit Confused

i tried reading the manual but i dozed off last night. i'm still confused on this one.
    here is my setup.
2 internal drives (Main) and (Audio).
1 firewire drive with ALL my samples.
all Audio for projects is on Audio drive
all Samples are on Sample drive
How should i run Project Manager? also do i really need it? i love the fact now that when i boot up logic, i don't have to wait to start creating.
    thanks for your help

If you are still confused, try readin my take on the Project Manager.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Project Manager gives error & will not manage project - OS X Lion 10.7.5

Premiere CS6 project manager reports  an error and will not manage my project. I have tried several times with both "Create New Trimmed Project" and " Collect Files and Copy to New Location". I have also tried to manage the project with options checked and unchecked (Include Preview Files, Include Audio Conform Files, Rename Media Files to Match Clip Names). Every time I try to manage the project, the process takes a few hours and then gives an error asking me to try again.
The project is 90 minutes long and uses multiple footage formats:
    Sony FS100
    Sony NEX7
    Sony NEX-5n
    Canon C300
    Canon 5DmkII
    Panazonic HVX200
    My computer is:
    Processor  2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Is this a bug, or are there specific things I can do to troubleshoot the problem? I have read of issues with AVCHD. I have confirmed all of my AVCHD folders are intact. Any other Ideas?
    THANKS!

I have this same problem on a Mac with CS6. I was simple trying to archive a project using the "collect files" option. After five or six hours of troubleshooting (Thanks Adobe) I have narrowed it down to MXF clips that came over in a Final Cut EDL (Projects created in PP with MXF files seem to be fine).  In other words, as I was transitioning from FCP to Premiere Pro, I sent four or five projects out of FCP as an EDL, opened them in PP and continued to edit.  It seemed to work really well until I attempted to archive my media.  If there was a single raw MXF file in the timeline (Not the project panel for some reason) the Project Manager would give me the standard error:"An unknown error occurred during the Project Manager operation. Please save your project and retry the operation.".
I have found two solutions that seem to work, both of which are a pain in the ax.
Option 1: Save the original project file only to an archive folder.  Then delete all the old timelines from the project, and save the project with a new name.  Create a new timeline and just drag all the raw video and audio into it. (Project Manager needs a timeline of some sort to archive) Then use the Project Manager to archive the modified project.  If I need the project in the future, I'll need to open the original PP project and relink all the media from the archived "media only" project folder.
Unbelievably, if you were to take this route and then re-edit the project in the future, it looks like you would run up against the same archiving issue AGAIN next time (At least using CS6). You'd have to go through all the steps above to archive it a second time. Depending on the size of your project, you may want to take option 2 and get the pain over with once-and-for-all.
Option 2: If you only have a couple of MXF files in the timeline (in my case I had mostly renders from AE by the time I was done and THAT raw project had archived in AE just fine) you can export the raw MXF files to another format, then replace the media in your project panel.  Finally, use the Project Manager to archive the project like you should have been able to in the first place if Adobe had written the code well in the first place!

  • Project Manager and Impulse responses

I just bought some new IR's from Spirit Canyon audio.
2 CD's worth. You can download Space Designer presets from their website but the presets dont know where the IR's are.
So I have to locate every file manually.
I wish the project manager could re-connect the IR's to the presets like it can with the EXS-24.
Thank you for reading my rant. I will now get back to the mind numbing repetitive work that is now before me.

You may want to read the customer success stories on

mentions using both P5 and Contract Manager:

  • PP3.0 --Problem Project Manager Trim Software Damages Files

I have a problem that occurs when a Premiere Pro 3.0 project is trimmed using the project manager software.
It occurs mostly with non-captured files- with wav files such as narration, music, and sfx  (they can be  Cd 44.1 files and mono and stereo tracks).  Sometimes, it happens with graphics files.  This problem occurs about half the time the project manger software is used.
In an affected project, there may be any where from 2 to 25 damaged files.  The error message that we get in the trimmed project is “unsupported file formats”.
When we open the non-importable audio files in another application like Sound Forge, they are identified as Raw PCM files.  These Raw PCM files frequently have errors-- like random noises.  The ones that don’t have errors can be saved as a wav file and then it can be re-linked and used.
It is happening on more than one computer.  These computers all have dual 32 bit Xeon processors and at least 3 Gigs of memory.

Could you give me a little more details about using a file manager?
I usually think of a file manager as selecting some files to keep and some file to delete.  I don't think that this will work.  Many of the files use only a small portion of the larger file.  Are you suggesting to keep the larger files even though they may be less thn 5% of the total size?

  • Project Manager screws up well organized project

Take a completed PP project nicely organized with folders for content (sequences, clips,  audio, ae, graphics, etc). Use Project Manager to trim size so it can be archived for future use at a WAY smaller size then the original (which has lots of unused media in it).Reopen a month later for client changes. The folder that PM created is a bloody mess, because in just  takes all clips and dumps them in 1 folder during the trimming process. Very sloppy and unprofessional.

I realize what you mean. I was simply saying that maintaining folder structures and file names on your PC is the workaround I use. That way I only need the project/raw footage archived instead of my whole project. Since I keep all my elements in the same folders/structures no matter what. Then if one of my co-workers needs to edit something I worked on I simply give them my project file and since they have all the elements file names and folder structures the same as me.
They simply re-link the raw footage by getting it off one of our network servers. Then they are ready to begin editing.
Which allows you to also archive or re-edit old projects with ease compared to project manager being sloppy with all your stuff.
However I totally agree it would be better if the project manager allowed you to do this to begin with. I realize project mananger slops everything into one giant mess.
That is why I started doing it the way I mentioned. It's not a perfect solution but it beats using project manager in its current state.
So I apologize if I came accross in the wrong way.

  • Premiere Pro Project Manager does NOT include After Effects files.

Warning: Premiere Pro "Project Manager" does NOT include the After Effects 'dynamic linked composition' files associated with the project when "Collect File and Copy to New Location" resulting in the incomplete and loss of all dynamic linked compositions in the new project destination ( folder or disc drive ) .. I know this also includes Photoshop dynamic links and assume includes Audition audio files as well.

Here's the best way: Personal Responsibility.
Put all of your project files in one file. Stop asking PPro to do it for you. It's simple. This is a no-brainer. If you create a linked comp, create it in the same file as your PPro project and files. When you send it to Encore, create the Encore project in the same folder. Works all the time, every time. When you're sure that you're finished with the project for the forseeable future, move the entire folder off your workstation into storage. Do I move a copy of each asset (video clip, image, audio, etc.) into this folder before I import it to my AE or PPro project? Yes I do. Is it overly time-consuming? Not really. I can fly on my machine. Does it beat not being able to open a project later. Oh yes. Yes it does. I'd say I did 50 projects last year this way. When I occasionally had to move a project folder back to the workstation, I had no problems. Everything worked as it did before I off-loaded it. That's because I take personal responsibility for my projects. It's imporatnat that theyt work, especially if I end up having to hand it off to a third party down the road.
BTW, my workstation is RAID 0. If you are using anything less, you need to upgrade. What I'm trying to tell you is that my system works very well. I have not always done things the right way. I have had my share of frustration. The point is that I learned. Now I'm passing that on to you. I use CS5 on an HP Z800 with a measely 12 gigs of ram and a single i7 quad core and the aforementioned RAID 0 configuration and a hacked Nvidia GTS 450. It works quite well. I'm sure I would do even better with another i7, 12 more gigs of ram and a Quadro 4000, but this is what they give me to use.
Additionally, I'm using CS5 at home on a MUCH older HP xw8200 dual dual Xeons, 12 gigs of ram and software-only MPE. Guess what? It works quite well.

  • Project Manager wavs Won't Play

I'm trimming projects using Project Manager but the resulting wavs don't play. Something about a specific module missing. All the avis play. All the mp3s play. What's going on?

I just did a test. I created a project and only put one wav file on the timeline and nothing else. I then used Project Manager to create a trimmed project. I opened the trimmed project and sure enough, the new wav file contained no audio. Any ideas?

  • Project Manager? How do you all use it?

Hi. Im new to the project manager. It seems as if it could be of benefit to me using it to organise my sessions. What is it for and how do you use it. I have read the manual but want some personal feedback. Thanks, Ben

in theory, the PM keeps tabs on all the files used/made in your sessions.
sorta like a dedicated version of spotlight.
the initial scan takes a while, but then all your audio, midi and patches are in one place after that.
i do a PM scan before and after each important session.
PM can miss stuff, so if you've just added a new sample lib, or tracked some vox for eg., it's a good idea to scan just the audio file section of the tree on the left.
similar with new esx instruments, songs, etc.
the find function allows you to see all clips that meet with the critera set and i use that to check for copies, duplicates, redundant files, etc.
you can also edit any files PM finds. in this way, it's like a bigger, better version of the audio window.
it's too bigger subject to go into too much more detail here, but sufficed to say, i have a lot less trouble with logic finding things if PM is kept up to date.

  • Project Manager fails to copy clips

    Hi,
I'm trying to consolidate a project using the project manager in CS4. I've tried both options (create trimmed and copy all to new location), and they both fail to copy the two video clips I use in the timeline.
The clips are mp4, and I can just place them in the new folder, but I'm curious why it is not being done automatically?
    Thanks

    Joe,
I have only seen this with SmartSound Audio Clips, when they were located in folders outside of the Project. To date, all other Assets, including stills (so long as they are within the folder hierarchy for the Project), have been archived.
When within the Project's folder hierarchy, all work well for me, but then I do not use anything MP4, though cannot image how that would affect things.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
