Project Pro 2010-hide closed projects?

We would like to hide closed projects from the project pro listing of all projects in server, but still have data show in our SSRS reports that we have created.
I've been able to hide closed projects in PWA project center view but not having luck with Project Professional Server version 2010
Ideas??
Debbie (Clary) Dixon

Hi Debbie,
Here is a proposal to archive closed projects without deleting them, so you can include them in the reporting.
You can create a dedicated group and category.
First, create the security and the group:
create a security group for non-admin users
create an archive security category, associated with the new non-admin group. Refuse all the cross autorizations between the group and the category. In the "projects" section, check the box "only designated projects" (or however it is named in your langage),
and do not check any box after.
Now the archive process must be as followed:
unpublished all project tasks, inserting the "publish" column
in PWA, close to update all project tasks to prevent users to update task progress on archived projects
add the project to the archive category
The project is archived (unpublished and closed to any updates) but still in the databases, accessible in the reporting. At any time and for any reasons, administrators can "restore" the project by removing it from the archive category.
Then you can put in place on a regular basis the usual process of physically deleting the archived projects once you're sure that they won't need to be accessed anymore and data are not needed anymore in the reporting. They still will be accessible by the Archived
native DB.
Hope this helps.

  • Error messages during XML import of Project Pro 2010 files

    Hi folks,
    I'm trying to diagnose a couple of sick Project Pro 2010 files loaded from Project Server by saving them locally as XML files and then reimporting (not connected to the server during import).  The anomalous behavior exhibited by both files
    is that one takes 15 minutes to load from the server, while another takes over 20 minutes. These are not typical load times for this server.  In both cases, Project consumes about 25% of the CPU during the load process. There's little network I/O
    while this goes on, and when externally linked schedules are loaded to the cache, they load very quickly.  Other than the long load times, the schedules appear to be behave normally, except for some very odd print preview behaviors in one of the schedules
    that I asked about in a different thread (among other things, the default print preview start date is 17 years after the default finish date, and the finish date is about 11 years before the schedule actually starts).
    The questions I'm asking here are about errors I see when I try to import the files exported as XML, and whether they might provide any clues as to what's causing the load time issues.
    When attempting to import one of the files saved as XML, a pop-up appears that says, "The actual finish date is before some of the previously entered timephased actual work values. If  you continue with this operation, Project will truncate
    some of the previously entered timephased actual work values. To continue, click OK..."
    When attempting to import the other file saved as XML, I get a series of pop-ups identifying a series of tasks that say, "The timephased edit will cause 'Develop Requirements Review Meeting Mi...' to start before 'Conduct Requirements Review"
    finishes.  As a result the task link cannot be honored.  You can: () Continue. Keep the timephased edit and ignore the link.  () Cancel. Ignore the timephased edit.  (OK/Cancel/Help)".
    Interestingly, both files contain external Project Server predecessor / successor links.  In the case of the first file, the XML import just appears to strip those out.  In the case of the second file, I get a long series of pop-ups (with
    some buggy text inserts) in pairs.  The first message in the pair is typically "An import error occurred.  The element <PredecessorLink> in the <Task> element with <UID>=611 has invalid data.  Verify that the file
    name and path are correct, and then try again. (OK)", where the indicated UID varies. The second pop-up in the pair appears to have a buggy text constructor and looks like this, with "[stet]" indicating the apparent buggy text inserts,
    "An import error occurred.  The element [stet] Verify that the file name and path are correct, and then try again. [stet] in the 309 element with <UID>=7 has invalid data. [stet] ^4 (OK)"
    In the second pop-up of the pair, the "xyz element" varies, but the "<UID>=7" reference and "^4"  are consistent. In the XML, UID 7 appears to refer to a calendar, a task which includes a number
    of entries similar to:
    <TimephasedData>
    <Type>24</Type>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <Start>2014-10-03T08:00:00</Start>
    <Finish>2014-10-04T08:00:00</Finish>
    <Unit>2</Unit>
    <Value>PT8H0M0S</Value>
    </TimephasedData>
    ... and to an assignment:
    <Assignment>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <TaskUID>10</TaskUID>
    <ResourceUID>-65535</ResourceUID>
    <PercentWorkComplete>100</PercentWorkComplete>
    which includes blocks like:
    <TimephasedData>
    <Type>2</Type>
    <UID>7</UID>
    <Start>2014-10-17T08:00:00</Start>
    <Finish>2014-10-17T17:00:00</Finish>
    <Unit>2</Unit>
    <Value>PT8H0M0S</Value>
    </TimephasedData>
    Eventually, the second file also does load with no external file links indicated.
    Again, I'm just looking for anything that might be a clue to the long Project Server load times.
    Thanks in advance,
    LP

    Hi Brian - the latest 'weight on my shoulders' was vacation :) - so just catching up - first day back.  We do have a fix coming in August CU for a problem that sounds very similar - but we would need to see your data to confirm if this is the case
    or not.  So the choices at the moment are to wait until we release the week after next, or open a support incident - but we would likely need assistance from your DBA to either run some queries or get us a copy of the DBs.
    Best regards,

  • Function works in MS Project Pro 2010, but not in MS Project Server 2010

    I have an custom enterprise text field in Project Server 2010 that uses the "Instr" function and it works fine.  I created a local custom text field in MS Project Pro 2010 that was similar, but uses the "InstrRev" function and
    it works fine.  I then go to project server 2010 and try to create a custom enterprise text field using the "InstrRev" function and I get a message that says, "This formula contains errors.  Correct the formula and try again."
    It's the exact same formula that I tried in project pro - copied and pasted.  Why is that?  Does Project Pro allow for a wider range of VBA functions in local custom fields than Project Server does when creating enterprise custom fields?
    Is there some way around this?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,
    There is a way around it.
    Logon to MS Project Professional.
    Creat that field there
    Add Field to Enterprise while in MS Project.
    It has just worked for me.
    Please let me know if it worked for you.

  • Project Pro 2010 not saving Header or Footer entries

    Using Project Pro 2010 SP1 32bit and have an issue where I have added Header and Footer details from the Print screen(Page Setup), it prints fine, and then I save/publish the plan. The next time I open the plan, the header and footer details are not
    there.
    I have tried this on multiple plans with the same result. Any ideas of what could be wrong?
    Thanks!

    Torose --
    When you are using Microsoft Project 2010 with Project Server, the system only allows you to edit non-enterprise views, such as the Gantt Chart view.  Under normal circumstances, the Gantt Chart view should be one that you can edit, and have the edits
    saved in the project.  The deal breaker would be if your Project Server administrator added non-enterprise views (such as the Gantt Chart or Resource Sheet views) to the Enterprise Global file.  Frankly, this is something he/she SHOULD NOT do, but
    there are many organizations where a Project Server administrator has done this without realizing the negative consequences.
    What you will need to do is to ask your Project Server administrator to do is to open the Enterprise Global file for editing, and then to click File > Organizer.  In the Organizer dialog, he should look at the list of views on the right side of
    the dialog (in the Enterprise Global file), and he should delete any view that is not truly an enterprise view.  This means that if he/she sees views like the Gantt Chart view or the Resource Sheet view, he/she should delete them.  The only true
    default view that ships with Project Server 2010 is the Enterprise Gantt Chart view, and he/she should NOT delete that view.
    Then he/she should click the Tables tab in the Organizer dialog, and examine the list of tables on the right side of the dialog.  Again, he/she should delete all of the tables that are not true enterprise tables.  He/she might see the Entry table,
    for example; if so, he/she should delete it.  The only default enterprise table that ships with Project Server 2010 is the Enterprise Entry table, and he/she should NOT delete that table.
    After doing this, your Project Server administrator will need to save and close the Enterprise Global, and then exit from Microsoft Project 2010 entirely.  He/she should also tell every PM to exit out of the software as well.  The next time you
    launch Microsoft Project 2010 and connect to Project Server, you will get a copy of the newly edited Enterprise Global file.  And now you should be able to add headers and footers to any view, and see them the next time you open the enterprise project.
    Hope this helps.

  • Enterprise Work Resource Changed to Material Resource MS Project Pro 2010

    Hi,
    There is a resource, I believe at some point was an enterprise work resource that changed to a material type resource within an enterprise project schedule. The resource have actual hours booked a while back. Is there a way to change the resource type (from
    Material) to work? I am able to search for the user via Server Settings > Manage Users but am not able to find her in the project center (All Resource) in hopes to edit the enterprise resource through the Project Pro Client.
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul,
    You have to go through the RESOURCE CENTER, since it is a material resource, you will not find it under "server settings, manage users" which only allows you managing users and not resources
    Hope this helps,

  • Configure working times in project pro 2010

    Hello.   Our company has project server 2010 up and running.  I am a project scheduler, and I am needing to schedule 6 hours of work per day (8AM-3PM, for example).  I believe, based on the research I've done, there are a few ways to
    do this, including adjusting resource calendars/changing working times.  My issue is that when I go to "Change working times", then "work weeks", "Details" is disabled, due to the way the server admins have set-up permissions.
    I think the admins can create me a customized calendar...just looking for any outside-the-box recommendations/ideas out there for how to do this, given the constraints i've mentioned?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Pardon me for bumping in.  As you note, there are a couple of options available - one is to drop the calendar for the project (and base calendar for resources) to 6 hours per day - 30 hours per week.
    If you choose to go with that answer, yes, it is best to set the definition of "day" to 6 hours and definition of "week" to 30.  I would also change the default start and end to match the calendar.  All are taken care of in
    File > Options, Schedule.
    There are no real risks of not having the calendar match the working time - just strong possibilities for significant confusion.  For example:  you've change the working time in the calendar (Work weeks) to 08:00 to 3:00 pm - but still left your
    definition of "day" to 8 hours.  You add a single task to the project with the default 1 day duration.  The task will start on Monday but end on Tuesday because you have only allowed 6 working hours per day.
    The order of preference for scheduling and calendars:  Project calendar initially.  Resource calendar when you assign resources.  Task calendars may over-ride resource calendars.
    Another suggestion:  leave the working time and definitions to 8 hours per day.  If you want to indicate that your resources can only generate 6 hours of work on tasks in your project during any given 8 hour day, set the resource's maximum units
    to 75%.  If you assign a resource and enter 8 hours of work, Project will increase the task duration.
    I hope this helps.

  • Project Server 2010 - Auto publish projects in Project Center

    Hi,
    We checked that we can make rules and auto publish the task updates. However we want to auto publish the projects in project center (Project Server 2010). Is there any way to do this?
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Anuja

    Hello,
    Not quite from the project center but you could have a windows scheduled task that bulk published the projects over night or each week etc. See the PowerShell script below:
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Server-2010-Publish-all-45ba385b
    if you want to publish specific projects you could look at this script:

  • Project Pro 2010 and full integration

    Recently I needed to resequence projectpro 2010 with app-v5. I know it's not a supported methode, but we publish project to users. Office 2010 is installed native on the OS. Ofc I used
    this article as a guideline. But still, project does not have full integration with sharepoint/word/excel if you do not enable the COM settings like:
    <COM Mode="Integrated">
    <IntegratedCOMAttributes OutOfProcessEnabled="true" InProcessEnabled="true" />
    </COM>
    While sequencing I also manually changed the temp manifest-file to add the publish action for integrator.exe for the user:
    <appv:UserScripts>
    <appv:PublishPackage>
    <appv:Path>"[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\Integrator.exe"</appv:Path>
    <appv:Arguments>/I /Extension /User /AppV PackageRoot="[{AppVPackageRoot}]" PackageGUID=978a32d5-9672-4477-a82d-df3faaff80ac</appv:Arguments>
    <appv:Wait Timeout="0" RollbackOnError="true" />
    </appv:PublishPackage>
    <appv:UnpublishPackage>
    <appv:Path>"[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\Integrator.exe"</appv:Path>
    <appv:Arguments>/U /Extension /User /AppV PackageRoot="[{AppVPackageRoot}]" PackageGUID=978a32d5-9672-4477-a82d-df3faaff80ac</appv:Arguments>
    <appv:Wait Timeout="0" RollbackOnError="true" />
    </appv:UnpublishPackage>
    </appv:UserScripts>
    I had 1 side effect If I enabled the COM settings; and that's FM20.DLL (MS Forms 2.0 Oject Library) is pointing to the virtual package resulting in blank icons in the excel UserForms. I fixed this by again changing [{SystemX86}]\FM20.DLL to C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\FM20.DLL
    in the temp manifestfile.
    Above actions are in mine opinion "quick and dirty", so is anyone in a similar situation with a better solution?

    Unless you have Office 365, you should understand your Office licensing as well - Volume License is per-device, not per-user.

  • Project Server 2010 Webpart for Project Detail Pages

    Hello,
    I do have a requirement where I need to develop a Project Server Web Part to show some calculated project information based on some business rule from Reporting database.
    That webpart I have to add in Project Detail Pages to show calculated project information for the Project I have selected/clicked from Project Center.
    So please tell me how can I link my webpart with ProjUID in URL like "PWA/Project%20Detail%20Pages/ProposalStageStatus.aspx?ProjUid=2b24d36b-7796-4789-ada3-d895d218fc14"
    So that it shows data corresponding to opened project in Project Server.
    Thanks and let me know in case have any doubts in understanding the requirement.

    Hi YLee_1980,
    If I understand your requirement correctly then you can use ProjUID querystring paramater to get specific ProjectUID like below
     HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["ProjUid"];
    Then after getting ProjectUID you can use it anywhere in your SQL query, PSI method calling etc etc.
    Also you can look into PS 2010 Solution Starter
    custom solutions Kit to enhance your knowledge on PS 2010 development. That would a great starting point.
    Thanks much hope this will help

  • Project Professional 2010 and pwa hangs when opening a linked project from PWA on Project Server 2010

    When I open a linked project in Project Professional 2010 from PWA, Project Professional 2010 hangs with the "Links Between Projects ..." dialog box open.  Unable to move or close the dialog box.  Unable to move or close Project Professional
    2010.  The PWA tab on internet explorere is frozen and unable to access although other tabs in IE are accessible.  End up having to reboot to close down project or force the process to end.  I suspect a hidden dialog box is the culprit maybe
    the scheduling conflict dialog box but am unable to access or switch and cannot confirm that there is another dialog box.
    Has anybody else experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Julie

    I have seen it hang when trying to open a project schedule even with no external links.
    Project 2013 Pro, Link to schedule is on a PWA on a Project 2007 server.
    If Project 2013 is open before clicking on the link, there is a long delay and the project schedule opens up in the web tab where the link was selected. If Project 2013 is not open, it just hangs and has to be shut down via the task manager.
    No idea why. I can create a link to the shared volume and that works OK. But if I actually try to open MS Project by clicking on the link to a .mpp file it never opens in MS Project.

  • Project Server 2010: PWA Removing Default Project Site Security Groups When Creating a New Project

    I looked for this specific issue with Project Server 2010/PWA/SharePoint and could not find an exact answer... hopefully someone can help.
    We are currently using Project Server 2010 and have a number of project site templates that are used dependent upon the enterprise project type selected. Each of these project site templates have unique permissions which should create the default security
    groups on the project site upon publishing/syncing:
    <Project Name> Members
    <Project Name> Owners
    <Project Name> Visitors
    <Project Name> Project Managers (Project Web App Synchronized)
    <Project Name> Team Members (Project Web App Synchronized)
    Web Administrators (Project Web App Synchronized)
    Whether a user creates a project through PWA or Project Pro 2010 and imports the project into PWA, we get a weird result in the Site Permissions of the newly created project site. PWA will remove all default security groups from the project site template
    and add a whole list of users in the Site Permissions list without groups.
    Once the project is published and the project site is created, we can then go back and add those default security groups back in the project Site Permissions and even add a couple of custom groups without them being removed on all subsequent project syncs
    or publishing.
    How do we get PWA to not overwrite the project site templates' security groups and place each user in the proper default security groups? At the same time, how is PWA adding a number of users into the Project Site Permissions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Paul,
    Thanks for that information. Right now we are using the Test environment to turn the Auto-sync feature back on. I suspect that the reason this is happening is due to PWA groups/categories/security templates. There may be more than one PWA group that is "overwriting"
    the default project site groups upon initial creation of the project. We will look further into the security settings to tighten up the policies.

  • Project Server 2010 Licensing

    My company is considering installing Project Server 2010 and we have a question concerning CALs. According to a document we have, the following CALs are required:
    Project Server CAL
    SharePoint Standard CAL
    SharePoint Enterprise CAL
    SQL Server CAL
    Windows Server CAL
    Our question is, is it necessary for every user in the company who needs to access PWA to have all 5 of these CALs? I know that if I have Project Pro 2010, I already have the Project Server CAL. Do I need the other 4?
    If the answer is yes, it seems excessive to require so many CALs for a single application.
    Thx - Shane

    Well, while the list of CALs is correct, epending upon your licensing model for Windows and SQL Server, your users might already have those CALs already. In addition, if your users have a SharePoint CAL anywhere else in the orifganiation, it still applies.
    All in all, it might be useful fro you to talk to a Microsoft licensing representative, as the model depends upon each organization.
    And finally, If you are just starting out with Project Server, I suggest you look at the latest version, especially Project Online +project Lite, which makes the whole licensing model super easy.
