Project Pro corrupting task details (% complete, start date, due date) on SharePoint Online

I think I've found a bug with Project Professional for O365 Client ... or it may be 'intended' behavior that's potentially quite destructive. Sorry for the long post.
Here's my scenario. I have a 'project site' set up in SPO. I use the richness of Project Pro Client to update tasks in that project, and members of my project team update their tasks using the basic SPO interface through web browser.
Here's my problem ... two in fact.
#1 - whenever I open Project Client and access the tasks in the SPO project site, it (Project Client) randomly changes some info about some of the tasks in the project ... at the time the Client OPENS. E.g. % complete, start date, end date are some of the fields
that are being clobbered by the Client. But only on some tasks, not all. So imagine a task is 100% complete. Open the Client, and it also shows the task 100% complete once all the synchronization with the SPO task list is complete, but now go look on SPO (while
Client is still open on my laptop), and the task suddenly shows 50% complete. Now close the Client WITH SAVE, and it sets the task back to 100%. But close the client WITHOUT SAVE (remember, we haven't changed anything, so why would I save?), and the task gets
left at 50% complete in SPO. Same behavior with dates. And again, Client is not doing this with all the tasks in the project, just some of them, and I haven't been able to find the pattern.
#2 - Project Client, for whatever reason, creates a new version of each task in the project on SPO, even though nothing changed about the task (i.e. no updates to % complete, start date, end date or anything else). I have versioning turned on so that I can
see the history of each task (i.e. see who changed/updated each task and when). Problem is that the Client is adding a new version each time I run it and access the project, causing old version info to be dropped (because I limit the number of versions to
20), making it impossible for me to spot legitimate changes to task details among all the 'false' version changes generated by the client.
I have a test project with just 3 tasks set up on my test site. I'm able to reproduce the behavior above every time (i.e. it's not intermittent).
Has anyone out there had similar unexpected behavior from the Project Client/SPO project site combination?

Hi rexcs,
Since this thread is more related to Visual Studio Online, I will move it to the right forum for a better response. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Trigger a Workflow when a date is reached in SharePoint Online

I have created a simple list workflow (SharePoint Online) which emails a user, informing them a Document's
Target Closure Date has been reached. The workflow works fine when started manually.
I want to trigger the workflow only when Target Closure Date matches today's date.
The best solution seemed to be to use a Retention Policy. So I went to:
    > Library Settings
    > Information Management Policy settings
    > Document content type
    > ticked 'Enable Retention'
    > Time Period:  Target Closure Date + 0 days
    > Action:  Start the relevant workflow.
This worked only on two occasions - both were Saturday mornings, at 3.30am and 4.30am. I can see
in this MS article the Expiration Policy timer job only runs weekly on SharePoint 2013, so can anyone confirm that the schedule is the same in SharePoint Online?
If so, is there any way in SharePoint Online I can trigger a workflow when a date is reached?
    Thanks for your help,
    Alyosha

    Hi Alyosha,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to send an email to a user when the Target Closure Date was reached in SharePoint Online.
The timer job of Retention Policy runs weekly in SharePoint Online, so we cannot use the Retention Policy to trigger the workflow.
As a workaround, I recommend to create a workflow associated with the library to send the email when the Target Closure Date was reached.
    Here are the detailed steps:
Create a workflow associated with the library and set the workflow to start when an item is created.
Select Pause until Date to set the workflow to pause until the Target Closure Date.
    Select Send an Email.
    Best regards.

  • Send a link via email that will start a workflow on a sharepoint online list

I am trying to send a hyperlink in an email that will start a workflow on a sharepoint online list. I am unable to use javascript because the end-user will be clicking this link on their mobile device. I have found many articles that get me almost there
but none of them will actually start the workflow.
here is one that is very close to what i am looking to do. http://sharepointerz.blogspot.com/2012/05/run-workflow-from-hyperlink-in.html
Is it possible to start a workflow using a URL with out using javascript?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

you can use ECMA script to Start the workflow.  However you need to redirect to a sharepoint page and there on Load you can do this. Directly from Email I don't know.
    You can use http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/607127/Using-SharePoint-Workflow-Services-JS-API

  • Project Server and Project Pro 2013 - Tasks not allowing Uncomplete Work to be rescheduled

We are current;y running Project Server 2013 on Premise and using timesheets to update task status. We are using the proactive task scheduling to let the allocations, work and dependencies drive the schedule to get accurate project finish dates.
We have several projects that give an error stating "Change would modify work entered by a team member" and "We can't make that change because Project Web App is set to only allow actual work to be entered by a team member through Timesheets
or My Work" when setting the status date and Updating the Project and selecting reschedule Uncompleted Work to start after the status date. We have determined that usually it is only a single task causing the error. we have tried to remove the resource
when no actuals have been entered but we get the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Paul,
Looks like the settings "Only allow task updates via Tasks and Timesheets" has been enabled on your PWA (under Server Settings >> Task Settings and Display).
But the setting is used to prevent any updates to actual work from project pro, and will throw the error  you mention above, if a PM tries to update the actual work.
I am not sure why the "Rescheduling of uncompleted work" would thrw this error, but worth checking that setting.

  • MS Project to detect task level changes and record a date modified in custom field

I need to know the date and time that a task field (mainly task name, start, finish) has been changed.
I found this topic within EE and it works great but...
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Project_Management/Q_27879745.html#a38636192
If (for instance) you change a duration which affects predecessors and only the task that you changed gets a date/time stamp.

    John,
    Thanks for the help.
I have posted this to EE and received one response from the guy who answered the question in the link I provided.  Here is his recommendation to a similar question (underlined at end) and it works great but does not work for changes to successors.
Only the record that receives the actual change gets stamped.
I did think of the change highlighting but not sure how to take advantage of it.  I need to know the order that the changes occur in a session as well as the time of day.  That is why I thought a time date/time stamp would work for both.
Is there and event for rescheduling of successors?
What is project looking at to see changes for the "change highlighting" format.  Is it an event that can be captured.
    Hi,
the pointer to events above is correct. This is what you need to do:
    1. in Microsoft Project open the VBA Editor (Alt+F11). On the left side you'll see the "ProjectExplorer". Expand the "ProjectGlobal (Global.MPT)" piece.
    2. In the first section of "ProjectGlobal(Global.MPT)
" you see "Microsoft Project Objects" and below that "ThisProject(Global.MPT)".Doubleclick it and insert the text between
the --- into the Editor window on the right.
    Sub Project_Open(ByVal pj As Project)
        Call modEvents.StartEvents
    End Sub
    3.  In the second section "Modules" add a new MODULE. Name it "modEvents". Copy the text between the --- into the new module:
    Private oMSPEvents As clsEvents
    Sub StartEvents()
            Set oMSPEvents = New clsEvents
    End Sub
    4. In the third section "Class Module" insert a NEW CLASS MODULE. Name it "clsEvents". Doubleclick and insert the text between the --- into it
    Private WithEvents MyMSPApplication As Application
    Private Sub Class_Initialize()
        Set MyMSPApplication = Application
    End Sub
    Private Sub MyMSPApplication_ProjectBeforeTaskChange(ByValtsk
As Task, ByVal Field As PjField, ByVal NewVal As Variant, Cancel As Boolean)
        tsk.Date1 = Now()
    End Sub
Sounds like hell? Yes, but that's how it works: the first part is always executed when you open a project -> the "StartEvents" initialises the new class and tells Microsoft Project to use events (which
is does NOT in the default). The last part "watches" all changes and whenever you change something it sets the Date1 field to the current date and time.
Please let me know if you need any help!

  • Closing Date/Due Date/ Balance

Hi all!! I had a balance before my first statement. I paid it before my statement cut BUT my statement cut the same day. The old balance was reported to the CRAs. When I look at the statement it says new balance $0, due date 7/282015, amount past due $0, mInimum payment $0. Does this mean on the 28th I don't have to pay the balance I have because the balance on my statement says $0? If my collections are correct my next statement should cut August 2nd. Can I simply pay the balance I currently have before that date to to allow reporting of a low balance?  Thanks!!!

Confirmed above but yes.  It's the statement balance that is due on the due date that you're concerned with.  The current balance could be a different amount depending on what else may have posted to the account. simplyme1 wrote:

  • CProjects-Bapi's for project and task details

    Hello,
I am searching for bapis for cProjects to use in a report at back end which has all the project fields and task fields.
For project i found a bapi BAPI_BUS2172_GET_DETAIL, but it does not have fields like project name, status, calculated start and finish date from teh basic data tab, division, design center from teh additional data tab.
For task fields i found bapi BAPI_BUS2175_GET_DETAIL but it does not have task status, latest start and finish date of the basic data tab.
any pointers to bapis which cover all the above fields would be really helpful.
Also I want to know is there anyway i can get the URL of the document that is uploaded in teh documents tab of the task.
    Thanks,
    Simmi

    Hi Simmi,
Some information can not be retrieved via Bapi call. If you would like to read it, you can use simple select to get it from DB directly. The related DB are cgpl_project (dates), cgpl_text (descritption), and crm_jest (for status).
    Kind regards,

  • Why do my recurring tasks have a due date earlier than the reminder date?

When I create a recurring task in the reminders app, it stores it as a due date 1 day sooner than the reminder date.  Thus, if I set a weekly task for Saturday, it shows up in my date view as being on Friday.  When I look at the details of the task, it shows that the due date was Friday and the reminder date was Saturday.  I know I set it up correctly (for being on Saturdays only) but it's being stored wrong.
This is happening only for the recurring tasks.  My single-use tasks are working fine.  Has this happened to anyone else?

    Caetano,
Thanks for the response! The only code it looks like I am getting is Exception Code 30 "Plan process according to schedule.
When you said that Forward Scheduling did not look like it had been executed which is what I thought. It got me thinking some more.
I ended up going to Tcode OPPR and checking Start in Past and there the system is set up to be "Control at plant leve"
Then I went to Tcode OMIT and the Start in Past check box was not marked.
So I would say we don't have Forward Scheduling set up at my location.
I am going to work on getting that changed and then rerun MRP to see if our release dates get brought in.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Workflow - Task Due Date, Send Reminder, Possible ?

    Some sharepoint workflow questions
    1. I am assigning a task but how is the due date calculated?
    2. I need to send a reminder if the task is not completed by Friday 12:00 noon to the assigned person. How can I do this?

Hi SP, you can do that a couple ways: 1) have a due date column with a workflow that is triggered when the date is past the due date. 2) make a calculated column taking the date and subtracting x number of days. This will have the workflow send out
the reminder before the due date.
Your calculation would be something like, if "today's date" = "due date - 7," then start workflow (to send out the reminder 7 days before).

  • How would I setup some kind of template that creates tasks, due dates, and assignments automatically.

Basically I want to setup something (project, workflow, template, list item), and what I would like it to do is:
    1. Ask for a name (text field, ex. "create business cards")
    2. Ask for a due date (date, ex.  "9/1/2015")
Then based on those items, a number of tasks are created with relative due dates and assignments, ex. :
"send email to marketing for logo" assigned to John Smith
"Get logo approved from designer" due "8/1/2015" (1 month previous to due date), assignemd to Robert
"send logo to shipping company" assigned to Matthew.
And this process should be repeatable many, many times.  Say we are a business card company, so we need to do this same process over, and over again.
I'm hoping to use as much OOB as possible, without any programming, but not sure where to even start looking.  I've googled Task Templates, and Templated Task List, and stuff like that, but not finding much.  I'm learning more about Workflows,
but not sure if that will even help me in this.  Thank you all!
Edit: I have full access (system administrator) on SharePoint 2013 Enterprise.

    Russ,
If you watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7a_7KiE9vk you'll get a very good idea of how to develop the content type form, and then check out the Lynda Designer tutorial to build the workflow:  http://www.lynda.com/SharePoint-tutorials/Using-parallel-blocks/144025/161226-4.html?autoplay=true
Basically, you build the custom form, make it the default document for a list, every time someone opens and saves that form  as a new document, your workflow is triggered on it and the tasks and emails you noted above get fired off.  You'll want
to pay attention to the differences between SP 2010 and SP 2013 Designer workflows (and will likely want to go with SP 2013 workflows).  I think you'll also want to go with a List Workflow over the other choices.  If you have 2 days mostly uninterrupted,
you'd be able to watch the tutorials and get a basic workflow in place; Designer and Workflow Mgr on the server can be a bit tricky, so installing those may be more of an issue than the actual development.

  • Task Due date in SharePoint 2013

    Hi All,
we have an issue where we want some customization or possible turn around solution on SharePoint 2013. i want to know that if we are allocating any Task to any user then we have Start Date & Due Date in Task Form. Here what i want that automatically,
after 2 Days, Due date column should be freezes/locked (No more changes in that). And if we want to change Due date then can only change 2 times & if we want to change again Due date as 3rd time then it should not allow to change at all & require some
    kind of approval from Management.

    Hello,
For the limited number of modification of the due date, I would use an event receiver on "itemupdating"  with this kind of logic
    If (Properties.ListItem[«Due Date»] != Properties.AfterProperties[«Due Date»]) //modification of the date
check the number of modification, if less than 3 , increment the number and continue, if 3 set
    Properties.AfterProperties[«Due Date»]) =Properties.ListItem[«Due Date»]
here some info about creating event recivers :http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg252010(v=office.14).aspx (for 2010 but the same for 2013)
    Best regards, Christopher.

  • Include Document Date & Doc Due Date in SAP B1 Aging Details Report

We are not able to view the actual document date and document due date from the Aging details report, it should be an essential information that should be show in the aging report. It make no sense that user still have to manually drill into each document to just read the document date/ due date for their aging analysis!!!
Try to imaging that how important this information to a business, for instance, to age the invoice which due for 1 - 30 days, the document date which due for 1 days is categorise into 1-30days aged, the documents due for 30days also categorise into 1-30days aged, however it bring the different meanings to user and user need these information to take the action decision! How useful for an aging report which could not equip user with these basic information to provide user with efficiency to make effective decision???
I think it is necessary to incorporate this level of details to the SAP B1 Aging Report.

  • How to set due date on sharepoint workflow task

I'm sure this is a very trivial question for this group, but...
Using SharePoint Designer 2013 to build a workflow.  I have assigned a task.  How do I set the due date for a specific number of days out, i.e. 10 days from the task creation date?
It seems like this should be really simple but I'm just not seeing it.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please follow below steps,
    - Go to Tasks lists --> list settings --> change due date column to calculated value and add the following formula,
    [Today]+10
    I hope this works.

  • Project File Sync with SharePoint online across time zones

We have a Project file that we have synced with an 0365 SharePoint site.  The project teams are working in US Central Time and Vladivostok Russia.  The original Project file is set up in Vladivostok time.  Users see the SharePoint Task Dates
in their local time.  However, when the project manager opens the file in Central Time Zone, the project file automatically reschedules start dates that are on Monday in Vladivostok (which start on Sunday in US Central Time) to non-weekend US Days and
then updates the SharePoint Tasks.  If the project manager in Vladivostok opens the file, more auto-scheduling occurs to move Start Dates to non-weekends in Vladivostok.
Is there anything we can do to avoid the auto-rescheduling based on the time zones that will not affect the file if we need to change the Start and Due Dates due to late starts?
    Kim Frehe

The level of sophistication that synchronizing to a SharePoint site is minimalistic. This is a very simple collaboration scheme. AFAIK, there is nothing you can do other than to all play in the same time zone, or at least pretend to by observing the offset.
For international collaboration, Project Online would be your best answer. I suggest that you request a 30-day trial, which you can obtain from a Gold partner such as my company.
