Project rename catastrophic

Using RH8, RSC3.1 and XP.
I renamed a project per the Help instructions.  When the project reopened most of the topics were no longer in the HTML file list, though they are in the
folder itself.
I would like to know how to gracefully get this project back in one piece.  I imagine importing the topics is the key, but is there a better way.
I would also like to ask what happened?  Did I miss something?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Joe

Hi Joe
Hmmm, come to think of it, I've been using RoboHelp since 1992 and I began shaving my head several years ago. Nah, I'm sure it's not that. It's genetics.
Actually that should not happen to you. The only issue I can think of here is that you mentioned (I believe) that the project you renamed was under Source Control? I could see that having all sorts of issues. I don't use RSC, I've always avoided it. But I might logically conclude that I would need to perform the following steps if I needed to rename a project.
Remove the project from source control.
Close, then Re-open the project to ensure nothing was wonky.
Rename the project and ensure all is well.
Re-add the project to source control.
You may want this thread to appear in the Source Control forum. There are some sharp folks there that monitor that forum and may just sort of ignore this one. If you want, I'll be happy to move the thread there for you.
Cheers... Rick

  • Project renaming and remote topics

If I change a project name, do I need to update the topic
links pointing to it in other projects?
For example, let's say I have the following:
    Project 1: NebraskaProject
    Topic: Omaha
    Project 2: Baseball
    Topic: Omaha Royals
Let's say I want to rename Project 1 to just "Nebraska",
using the "File | Rename Project" option from the RoboHelp menu.
Let's also say that Project 2 has a topic, "Omaha Royals",
with a (remote topic) hyperlink to a topic in Project 1, "Omaha".
When I change the name of Project 1, will doing so
automatically update the remote topic link? Or, will I need to go
into Project 2, open the Omaha Royals topic, and manually update
    it?

The project rename option only renames the underlying project
files (e.g. .hhp, .ali, .hhc, .hhk, etc.) not the actual output or
topic files. If you are outputting a CHM file you'll find the
rename process leaves the original CHM file unchanged. For example
renaming the project NebraskaProject to Nebraska leaves the CHM
file with it's previous name and therefore the external links do
    not change and will work.

  • Project renames sequence and all clips in the sequence when a clip is added

My project is renaming my sequences and the clips in those sequences whenever I add a clip. For example, I have a sequence called "dance section 2", which contains 20 some-odd clips with various names. When I add a clip named "drop from above", the name of the sequence is changed to "drop from above", and the name of every other clip in the sequence is also changed to "drop from above" (video, audio, stills, everything). When I add a clip named "spins", all the names are changed to "spins".
The name of the sequence is changed in both the timeline and the browser, but the names of the other clips are changed only in the timeline. In the browser, they keep their old names. The exception to this is the last clip added before the name changer. For example, if I add "drop from above" to the sequence, and then add "spins", the clip named "drop from above" is renamed "spins" in the browser as well as in the timeline, but the other clips are renamed only in the timeline.
The clips in the sequence also keep their original content - so the sequence looks the same as it did before, but all the names of the clips are changed.
This is only happening in one project. All of my other projects are working fine.
I've tried restarting and deleting preferences. I've also looked at the autosave vault for the project. The backup projects saved after a certain time all behave the same way, and the projects before that time all behave normally. I can't imagine what would have caused this, though, since I've been working on this project all day and nothing's happened to my computer or hard drive or anything.
Also, there are no freeze frames at the beginnings of my sequences (I read another thread with a somewhat similar issue and getting rid of freeze frames seemed to help that person).
I'm in FCP 7.0 on a Macbook Pro.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Welcome to the discussions...
I've had this happen. My guess is that it's related to round-tripping to/from Color, but I can't be sure. IMHO, the sequence is corrupted. I just dealt with it for a while, then rebuilt it by making changes from an earlier version.
Sorry I don't have a better solution, but at least you know you're not alone.

  • Batch project rename

    Hi everybody!
I've just look around in the forum but I can't find an answer that satisfy my question. I've a lot of project (434 project) named as YYYY_MM_DD - Name of the project. I would rename all as YYYYMMDD-Name of the project. Essentially I would remove the underscore characters and the space before and after the dot-line. Could help me?
    Thank you very much.
    Edoardo

    Hi Edoardo,
There is no way to do this with Aperture's tools.
I use Keyboard Maestro — terrific program — to write macros which rename Projects and then select the next Project.  Works quickly.  The substitutions you want to make are easily handled.  Post back for specifics if you are interested.  Any macro program should work.

  • Missing HHP file after project rename

One of the authors here has hit a problem with a project
after he has renamed it - within RH. The project refuses to open
completely and RH hangs. On investigation it appears that the
project's .HHP file is missing. All the other project files are
present with the new project name.
We've managed to get around this as he has a backup of the
original project and can import the amended topics into the backup
and do a hack of the .HHC and .HHK files in order to move forward.
Just wondering if this is something others have experienced.

Thanks for the help but yes we have tried this approach.
Interestingly, one change that was made from the original project
was a new template file. This shows up in the topics and even in
the topic properties but not in the Project's templates folder.
Everything appears OK, even the truecode references the template.
The problem is that we have no way of knowing if this was the same
before the rename as well as after.

  • [Urgent] plz----Project Renaming

    hello!
I have tried most of the things like Making a new folder & then Putting the whole project in that by renaming it! but it Did'nt work!
Even when I renamed it & then run then also it was still Taking the old name. Does anybody know how to rename a The Main Project in Studio Creator .
    Pllllzzzzzzzzzzz help me!

jbjonesjr - Please share your colleague's rename process. I'm very interested in the details.
samanil - Here's a process that worked for me with a very simple project.
    1. Create a new empty project with the new project name.
    2. In the Projects window, open Web Pages, then delete Page1.jsp
    3. Open the old project. In the Projects window right click Page1.jsp and choose Copy.
    4. In the new project, right click the Web Pages node and choose Paste.
    5. Repeat the Copy/Paste for every web page, and any libraries or other resources that were added to the old project.

  • Project renamed, but URL didn't change

The project was renamed, but when the Help is compiled, the
URL continues to show the old project name. Are there some files
that need to be manually updated or deleted so that the URL
reflects the renaming of the project? For example, the URL is
    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/anne.rentteuk/Desktop/DecisionView%20StudyManager%20 3.5.2%20Online%20Help/!SSL!/FlashHelp/about_monitoring_data_management_performance.htm
    It should be:
    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/anne.rentteuk/Desktop/DecisionView%20StudyPlanner%20 3.5.2%20Online%20Help/!SSL!/FlashHelp/about_monitoring_data_management_performance.htm
Note that StudyManager (former project name) was changed to
    StudyPlanner (new project name).

Hi rentteuk and welcome to our community
Take a look in the Project Pane on the left side of the
RoboHelp HTML application. At the bottom you should see a pseudo
folder named Single Source Layouts. Expand this folder. Right-click
your FlashHelp layout and select Properties from the context menu.
At the top of the dialog you should see is a field labeled "Select
Output Folder and Start Page". I believe this is where you need to
    change things.
However, in looking at what you posted, it would appear that
you are wanting to change the Folder name of where the project is
stored. If this is the case, you will need to close RoboHelp HTML,
then rename the folder using Windows Explorer. Once you do that,
you may restart RoboHelp HTML and re-open your project.

  • Project Server 2010 Rename Project Site

I have a requirement, that is to change Projects' Names, it has to be done automatically (By code using PSI).
I used Project.QueueRenameProject and its working fine, however the associated project site/workspace is not renamed (updated).
I need suggestions about how can I rename the Project Site Programmatically (by code)?
I want the URL to use the new name.
I am thinking of two ideas, but I don't know the feasibility.
Idea 1, create a new site with the new name, copy the contents of the old site, and disassociate the old site, associate the new site, and delete the old one.
Idea 2, is to create a sharepoint/pwa event handler that triggers on Project Rename and execute what is mentioned in Idea 1.

  • Valuable lesson learned: renaming a project

Some words of advice just in case I can save someone else the many hours of pain I just went through.
I was mixing an album of nine songs, and one of them - which had been behaving perfectly well to start with - started crashing logic in a bad way whenever I tried to bounce it. Logic didn't even throw a crash report most of the time - it just flat out quit, and looking at the console showed lots of what looked like memory leakage errors. I tried disabling plugins in turn, copying the project to another drive, trashing Logic prefs, restoring from a backup copy... everything I could think of, to no avail.
I couldn't figure out why it was just this project and none of the others (which all had similar plugins and track counts). Then it occurred to me that this was only project I had renamed - I had corrected a spelling mistake in the folder in the course of mixing... from the Finder.
If you need to rename a song or project, ALWAYS use the File->Project->Rename... option in Logic. NEVER do it from the Finder.
Thankfully, Logic is forgiving, and consolidating and renaming my project using the proper method fixed it, and it's now bounced. But I had a seriously frantic few hours where I really thought this project was hosed forever.
    Okay. Be careful out there.

    LOL!  Thanks for sharing Norbert.
I totally agree with you.  The funny part of the story is that I had not anticipated that the portion of the code in question would "change".  Or rather, I had not foreseen the fact that it would be needed as part of the data that would need to be restored.
The beauty is that the experience demonstrates how well suited OOP is for scalability.  And like you said mixing normal data flow with OO can become messy, so usually not a good idea.
I did exaggerate when I said "EVERYTHING" should be OO.  I'll see what an upcoming project (from scratch) done using OOD will become.

  • RoboHelp suddenly no longer recognizes project images

I am having major problems with project images, and am unable
to find a workaround. The images are initailly recognized by
RoboHelp, then mysteriously become urecognized. I reinserted all of
the images, all was well for a while, and then the project
suddently does not reconize them again. It just happend for a third
    time.
I have read through many posts describing problems users have
with images, but it did not help my situation:
-- I understand that there is inconsistent behavior in
RoboHelp if images are pasted into topics rather than via the
    <b>Insert > Image</b> menu item. I am inserting them
    via Insert > Image menu.
-- I also read that there can be display issues based on the
tool that was used to capture an image. I use SnagIT version 8 for
all captures. My issue is not with display, but of "some" of the
files disappearing from the project list.
-- I also read some posts suggesting that all images be
placed in the project root to avoid porblems. That is not a viable
solution for me -- it is a very large project with several hundred
images -- I could not effectively manage the images if I could not
    organize them in folders.
Here is what I am seing:
-- After I insert the images (using Insert > Image) the
names of the images appear in the topics and are listed in the
    Project View OK.
-- I continue with general project development, and
periodically generate output and run reports to check for project
health, including Missing References and Unused Files. I notice
that some of the images that were previously OK show up in the
Unused File report.. I then look in the Project tab, and see that
the Unused images are no longer included in the tree.
-- I then open the topics and see that the images are still
there in the topics, and I can see them in WYIWYG and in preview
    mode.
    -- I re-insert and the cycle repeats.
I am totally stuck and am continuously losing work.
I would very much appreciate help resolving this isue.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Rick.
How can I recreate the CPD file? Do they often become
    corrupt?
I just dicovered something this makes this problem even
weirder, and further makes it seem like corruption...
I copied the entire project structure to another directory,
opened it in RoboHelp, and did a project rename. (Hoping this would
perhaps 'clear' the project corruption.) I then ran the Unused
Files report, and got a totally different result than when I run
the report in the original. Actually, even more files appear on the
report in the renamed project. Then, I had someone else open the
project, and they see different results when they run the report
    from their machine.

  • TFS 2013 Move Team Project to a new Team Project under the same Collection

Was trying to move a team project to another team project so that it can be named correctly.
    DefaultCollection
    ProjectA
    to
    DefaultCollection
    ProjectB
Everything I've found online is all over the place as far as accomplishing this task. Project be doesn't exist yet, so I am not exactly merging the contents with ProjectA.
We also are Not using VS Online.

Project Rename is a missing feature in TFS. The feature has recently appeared on Visual Studio Online and it looks like it will be part of TFS 2015.
There is no easy way to go this in any older version of TFS. If you have a small amount of data, consider starting over. Do not rely on hacks and open source tools that change the database of TFS, these can cause you to end up in considerable trouble.

  • The package file is missing from the project directory

Today after working in SSIS all day with no problems, I re-opened one of my projects and got the message:
The package file ‘package_name.dtsx’ is missing from the project directory. This package has been skipped, and project will continue to load.
So two of my packages loaded and all remaining packages where skipped, one pop-up dialog for each “missing” package. I then looked in my project directory and all my packages are still there.
    1. Has anyone experienced this and found why this happens?
    2. Can I just import my packages again and be good to go?
    Update:
I discovered that this had to do with renaming my packages in SSDT. For some reason the name changes did not get saved into the project .dtproj file. I was able to correct by renaming the .dtsx files in the project directory to their original name. Then
I re-opened the project, renamed the packages to the new names, saved and closed all packages. At this point you need to save the project, which actually wasn't really straight forward. You need to highlight the project name in Solution Explorer
and then from the File menu select 'Save Selected Items'. This updates the .dtproj file.
Upon closing SSDT, a dialog SOMETIMES appears asking you to save the project, after selecting Yes, the .dtproj file also updates. However, I've realized that upon closing the project, that the dialog asking to save the project does not always appear,
depending on what has changed in the project. To be safe, use method previously described, especially after renaming packages. Also, if SSDT happens to crash after you have renamed a package, the project will not re-open properly.

I remember one such occurrence when I used Source Control (if I recall right it was TFS), and yes, you can simply right-click on the packages folder and choose 'add existing package'.
But check for project file perhaps it has a wrong reference. E.g. something from the outside manipulated on the package files.

  • How do I add an included jsp to my project and not get a compile error?

    Hi,
I have a project with some included jsp's however if I add them to the project, when I build I get a compile error as the jsp uses variables from the calling jsp.
Any ideas on how to get round this.
    Thanks
    DM

There are two main ways that I deal with this problem (yeah, it sucks, but it sort of makes sense that it happens...) (I presume you're talking static include here...)
#1 - name the included file with an extension that JDev will not try to compile (.jspf - for JSP Fragment - is common) Then it will be compiled in with the including page, but won't gag the project compilation. Advantage - it works, and you find out at compile time if you hosed up the variable reference. Disadvantage: JDev tries really, really, really hard to keep you from naming a JSP file with an extension of .jspf I normally create the .jsp file in JDev, remove it from the project, rename the file outside of JDeveloper, then add it back to the project - pain in the butt, but it works (and you probably aren't building scads of these included files...)
#2 - add the variable to be referenced to the pageContext implicit object as an attribute in your including page (ex, <% pageContext.setAttribute("myVar", myVar); %>), then reference that attribute in your included JSP (ex, <%= pageContext.getAttribute("myVar") %>) . It will compile fine (as the compiler has no way of knowing if the pageContext attribute actually exists, it just sees that the syntax is good and motors along merrily. Advantage: don't have to have differently named JSP files (which isn't actually a big deal). Disadvantage: You hvae to add the variable to the pageContext (and you have to always add Object derivatives, as primitives won't go into a hash) and you don't find out if you screwed the variable up until runtime (when it tries the getAttribute, which could return null if you didn't properly set it to start with) vs at compile-time w/ the direct reference.
