Proper Plan for SAP Support Pack Upload

Hi Experts,
We are going for Support pack upload of SAP at your firm.
Like to get your suggestions on the Plan we have done for going with the update.
The Present Level of SAP in our server is very low 8 stacks low approx in both the Development Server and Production Server.
What is the best way to apply them from the below mentioned plan.
1. shall we go for 1 stack in Development for the required components then test it for 3-4 days then go for the same stack in Production. So that both the server go sync with each other. This way going till the target stack one by one.
2. shall we go and upload all 8 stacks for the components required in development first one by one and then test the system for all the errors available and then start with the Production. Will there be a transport problem if the system are not in sync for the so many days.
Please suggest which one shall be best suited  if any other plan can be used for safe and proper update of Support pack.
Jitesh

Hi,
1. shall we go for 1 stack in Development for the required components then test it for 3-4 days
then go for the same stack in Production. So that both the server go sync with each other.
This way going till the target stack one by one.
If Large Support Stack gape is there, then
1. I would perform system copy of Existing Development System into another separate New Test Server.
2. Then , I will generate Side Effect Reports based on the Source-to-Target Support Stack gape. You can request such side effect from SMP at https://service.sap.com/side-effects by selecting the solution and by providing source to target SP level per component.
3.Refer The required SAP Notes regarding OCS Know problems for the support patches. Apply latest SPAM/SAINT Updates. Apply Latest SAP Kernel patches.
4. Apply the Required Support Package stack after taking successful offline backup of Database.
5. Perform SPDD - SPAU adjustment and record it in single/Multiple Change requests.
6. Ask the function team to check the Functionality in new Upgraded TEST system
7. After Confirmation from the Functional & Technical Team, Apply the same support package stack in existing real DEVELOPMENT system and move that SPAU-SPDD adjustment request.
2. shall we go and upload all 8 stacks for the components required in development first one by one
and then test the system for all the errors available and then start with the Production.
Will there be a transport problem if the system are not in sync for the so many days.
The same above steps will be applicable here also. Change Requests Transports are not recommended between the systems which are on different Support Patch Stacks. With the above mentioned steps your downtime as well as Development Holiday will be minimized.

  • Authorizations  required for applying support packs

What authorizations do you require for applying support packs?

After u successfully downloaded the support pack from the service market place , the 1st authorization u need is for using the client 000.
Only with the client 000 u will be available to import the support pack (ABAP suppotr package) using transaction SPAM. To use all SPAM functions, you require the following authorizations:
    S_TRANSPRT
    S_CTS_ADMIN
If you log on in client 000, then your user master data contains the corresponding authorizations (inside the authorization profile) and you can use all the functions in Support Package Manager.
For Java u can use jspm tool for applying the support packages for any component and if u want to enhance or upgrade the java components( say from ESS 1.1 to ESS 1.2) then u can do it using sdm tool.
Before applying the pack u need to unpack the abap/java files using the commands in the command- prompt and copy the unpacked files into sap/sid/trans/eps/in folders of ur system.
Also before using the SPAM for abap support pack make sure that u had set ur system as the domain-controller in transaction stms with ddic user and masterpwd.

  • Common problems on User Level for SAP Support

We are working on an RFP for SAP support. The client is having an existing helpdesk where key users or super users try to resolve the issues. If the same are not resolved at this level, these issues are escalated to Level-2 ‘Q’ which is specific to the SAP functionality and / or component. For identifying the correct functionality and / or SAP component, scripts are to be used so that the issue gets escalated to the right ‘Q’.
We are looking for a list of common problems that occur at the User level so that the same may be translated into a hierarchical model for logging on the user requests to the relevant support ‘Q’. Anybody having worked on a similar proposal or having any insight on the subject, may please contact me.

  • SAP Organizational Plan for SAP Business Workflow

    Hi,
This is question is specific to SAP Business Workflow within ECC, relating to SAP Organizational Management:
    We have more than one instance of SAP, where one instance is used to run all of our business, except SAP HR (let's call this SAP Instance 1), and another instance that is only used for SAP HR (let's call this SAP Instance 2);
    We want to implement SAP business workflow (e.g. approving requisitions through workflow in ECC);
Is it possible to use our SAP organizational plan that is already defined in our SAP HR instance of SAP (SAP Instance 2), instead of defining an SAP Organizational plan in SAP Instance 1 only to support SAP business workflow.
Is it possible to define an interface from SAP Instance 1 to 2, to look up the requisition approver, pass it back to instance 1, and then send the workflow to the appropriate person.  Or is there another better approach?  e.g. Replicate organizational plan that exists in instance 2 in instance 1?  SAP tools for this?
From what I have briefly read online thus far, I understand that "The organizational plan is part of the PD component "Organization and Planning. The organizational plan is maintained on a client-dependent basis. An organizational plan which was created for personnel management purposes (or is to be created) can be used in SAP Business Workflow without any changes, provided the workflow functionality and the personnel management application run in the same client."  To me, this sounds like that the workflow functionality and organizational plan must exist in the same system and client.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or any advice to share?
    Cheers,

    Hi AD1981,
Standard solution would be using distributed Organisational Management. There is custom ALE for this (check tcode SALE: Application Link Enabling (ALE) -> Modelling and Implementing Business Processes -> Predefined ALE Business Processes -> Human Resources -> Master Data Distribution -> Set Up Distributed Organizational Management). Basically you would maintain organsation in HR system and distribute changes to other instance using ALE. Workflow would rely on the distributed org. structure.

  • SAP support pack upgrade

    Dear Experts,
There has been a discussion with my colleagues to discontinue support pack upgrade. But we are not able to reach to any consensus. We would require your opinion on the same.
    Background of the discussion:
Since we are using SAP-EH&S in highly customized manner, support pack causes more issues rather than improvements. Each time we have to invest lot of efforts while testing the system after support pack is applied. We have to stop all the development work for 2 months.
    I need to know:
    - What are the implications of discontinuing support pack upgrades?
    - SAP will no longer provide support for current SAP-EH&S module after 2020. What possible issues can we face if no support pack upgrade is done? I believe after 2020 other module would be used, so we are looking for only next 5 years or so.
    - Have there been any other module (highly customized) facing similar issues?
    - Do we lose support from SAP if we don’t upgrade the system?
I tried to approach SAP as well but couldn't get a straight answer.
    Thanks,
    Apoorv Bhargava

    Dear Apoorv
    in regards of:
What are the implications of discontinuing support pack upgrades?
=> you will never get "legal updates". A support package is not only a "fix"; but sometimes SAP is delivering new solutions based on legal topics. Good example is "SVT". This is shipped with a Support Package only; you should not never ever try to implement the more than 100 OSS notes manually
=> you will never get "error" fixes; yes you can implement one OSS after the other (if neededI but this is the wrong approach
=> if you would like to do "major upgrade" (e.g. SAP 6.0 EnhPack7) you need to go through the whole process; and only by high level SAP releases you will get the "newest" functions
On the top only by installing SP or Upgrade you will get updates in property tree (only if you buy legal content from SAP the story would be different)
    In regards of:
    Background of the discussion:
Since we are using SAP-EH&S in highly customized manner, support pack causes more issues rather than improvements. Each time we have to invest lot of efforts while testing the system after support pack is applied. We have to stop all the development work for 2 months.
Be happy that you only need 2 months; in most cases more than that is needed,
    In regards of:
SAP will no longer provide support for current SAP-EH&S module after 2020. What possible issues can we face if no support pack upgrade is done? I believe after 2020 other module would be used, so we are looking for only next 5 years or so.
Anybody has the same situation here. After 2020 clearly SAP must deliver a solution (alternative etc.); (and you can extend maintenance period as well)
    - Have there been any other module (highly customized) facing similar issues? => I am pretty sure that SAP SD, SAP Mm etc. is the same story
    - Do we lose support from SAP if we don’t upgrade the system? = in my opinion no. But if you need to strat OSS the story is always the same: they will come back and ask you to implement SP etc.
    A lot of SAP services exists to help you in your situation. But you can help yourself. One option is;
a.) create first a "sandbox" with current SAP ERP release and prepare EHS
b.) then compare your set up to standard set up and list" differencies"
c.) start of analyzing: what can be done to get "closer" to standard
d.) start with "quick win" standardization and the generate a list of "subprojects" to take care the other differences so that may be after a short time (may be only one year) you are much closer to SAP standard
    In regards of:
Since we are using SAP-EH&S in highly customized manner => as long as you are using only customizing you are in "Standard". There should be less problems in update/upgrade; only if you have adpated SAP codings etc. you have a problem.

  • SAP Support pack upgrade help!!!

    Dear Experts ,
Am new into basis  . My environment is ECC6 ehp4 with solman 7.0 ehp1 .
Right now my existing support pack stack is 19.
When i check in solman using MOPZ it shows the target stack as 20. when i checked the components in target stack it shows only few application component patches. No Basis & abap patches.
But i checked individually in service market place patches list . all components including application & technical components 4 more patches has been released.
1.My doubt is did support pack upgrade should be done using support pack stack only ?.
2.Abap & basis patches should be implemented separately based on the dependency of patches in Support pack stack ?
    Kindly help me!!!!

    Hello,
First of all you need to make sure your ECC6.0 system product type as ECC6.0 ERP4 under Product Systems --> SAP ERP Enhancement in SMSY. Once it's done, you need to click on "Read System Data Remote" to refresh ECC system component detail. Then after check MOPZ and you should be able to see the target stack level with all components.
    Thanks,

  • Disaster Recovery Plan for SAP BW

    Dear All,
We are planning for robust Disaster Recovery Site for BW . We have similar  R3 & BIW  servers at DR site at different location and data is being copied every 3 Hrs.
R3 & BIW at DR site is exact replica of primary site. When primary site is down DR site will act as a primary. In that case we might face data loading issue from DR R3 to DR BW because of source system change. If we change the source system then we loose data consistency and might need initialisation. We are looking for the solution which will involve less efforts to up the system.
Does anyone has done this or overcome this situation ?
    Regards,
    Manish

    Hi Raman,
We are doing disaster recovery test for both ECC and BW systems so whole PR system switched to DR system for some time and then back to PR system. so in that case what precautions we need to take from BW side?
    Thanks

  • Planning for Mobile Service Pack Upgrade from 2007 SP2 to SP6

    Hello Mobile Gurus,
We are planning for upgrading mobile from 2007 SP2 to SP6. Can anyone of you guess a time line for achieving this?
I mean, how long will it take in dev env to upgrade commstation, mrs, mdw etc. apart from upgrading the field laptops?
    thanks

    Hello Mahesh
had missed 5th point. ie Rollout to the client laptops . the amount of time it takes will be based on the kind of customization and kind of issues that you face in your application . etc.
Repostiroy upgrade from n to n+1 release will take approx 1-2 hours (with out additinal language) and it is correct.
I have given you the rough estimates so that you will get a fair idea how much time it is going to take.
    Best Regards

  • Must buy protection plan for warrenty support

Sad day for a 10 year old to learn a hard lesson. 21 days ago my son, after saving his Christmas and Birthday money, made the biggest purchase in his young life. His first time at Best Buy, which he chose because it was a real store and he could talk to salespeople and touch the computers. He bought an Acer Chrome Book for $199.00, sadly it turns out he couldn't afford the Best Buy Protection Plan.
About 14 days later a small crack appeared in the upper left hand corner along with black spots on the screen, Where the crack is its pretty obvious that it is a default and not damaged, he was devestated. Off to Best Buy we went and we just returned shortly. My son is very dissapointed, I am furious. He didn't fully understand the exchange between me and the manager, to him it was just they would not help him get it fixxed unless he paid them, As for me well I know a shakedown when I see one. We were told that we should of bought the extended warranty in the first place. but lucky for him even though it was against the rules they would sell it to him today and if he bought it they would send it out for repair if not well sorry too bad. After I questioned the manager if he was really sure this was how he wanted to leave it, I was told that this one time they would send it out for repair but they did not know how long it would take and he doubted they would fix it under warranty unless we bought the Best Buy Plan. Having lost all trust in them we packed up our defective laptop and headed home. On Monday I will contact Acer and resolve the chromebook issue. I will let the BBB be a neutral arbitrater in our dispute with how Best Buy supports what they sell. My son learned a lesson, Best Buy lost customers and I gained a hobby of spreading this tale to all who will listen.

Hey there, it sounds like your child did a lot of saving and got to their goal of getting something that means a lot to them! That being said to quote your last post you said " we bought it 21 days ago from BEST BUY not Acer they should of taken the unit and replaced it or sent in in for warranty repair. Instead knowing they had us at a disadvantage they took the opportunity to try to sell us a warranty, not help us solve our problem, going as far as giving us the false impression that buying an additional warantee was our only course of action" While yes you bought it from best buy, acer is the manufacturer so that is why they give a warranty on their product they distribute through retailers, so you are covered for as long as they feel you should be covered. Also from your first post you did say that the customer service rep that was assisting you said that even though it is not policy and is not something that would normally be offered (and this is true) they would sell you the protection plan and then send out for you. You also stated they told you they could send it out to the service center under the manufacturers warranty, but they would most likely not fix the issue and just either send you a quote to fix it or send it out, which from your description of what is wrong with the chromebook is also very true in what they associate/manager told you.
"Retailers need to be put on notice that they will stand behind what they sell or we as consumers will not buy from them and that outrageous behavior like what happened to me and my son today is unacceptable in the retail marketplace of 2014." This sort of situation would happen at ANY retailer you bought the chromebook from, not just Best Buy. How is it unreasonable? The product you purchased has physical damage to it. This could have been caused by any number of things. If you truly believe this is a manufacturers defect, you should definitely bring it up with acer directly (it would be best in this scenario since you said there is a crack on it, and best buys service center has strict rules to follow).
Everyone who does have issues seems to think Best buy (or whatever retailer that wont accept their return/repair under manufacturers warranty) is not standing behind their product. They do offer a 15 day return/exchange period so if you have any immediate issues you have time to take it back to them and get a working product or your money back, otherwise it needs to be brought up to the manufacturer unless the retailer can offer to service the product for you under their agreement with the manufacturer (like mbrguy stated). I know you are dealing with a frustrating situation overall and I hope a community connector can help out in some way shape or form. Good luck to you and I hope you get your child into a working chromebook!
PS: Just to note on the geek squad plans best buy offers, they are offered because they cover more than what a manufacturer covers and in most cases last longer than the manufacturers warranty. So you definitely save money in the long run, especially if your motherboard happens to stop working or if you sill anything on the unit (if you have the ADH plan, rather than just a normal part coverage plan). A motherboard alone in almost any computer to get replaced would cost almost as much as your machine cost all together! Any way enough rambling from me, good luck =)
Even though I work for best buy, my posts and thoughts are that of my own and do NOT represent best buy in ANY WAY.

  • Proper Planning for P7N Diamond

After several years of a desperately inadequate computer, I have decided to upgrade. Instead of a simple and easy (but less powerful) upgrade, I decided to build my own. I'll be frank; I have very little idea what I'm doing. I know possibly a little more than the average person, but I possess almost no in depth knowledge. I've selected the parts I wish to buy (haven't purchased yet), and I'm simply finishing up proper research and planning before I go ahead and make the financial commitment.
Here's the major components of the build, at least the ones I'm moderately concerned about.
    Quote
    P7N Diamond Mobo
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600
    CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply Unit
    EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card
    Kingston HyperX 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) RAM
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB and Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB HDDs, both 7200 RPM SATA 3.0GB/s
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit
My main worry is the Mobo and CPU. While according to http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1372&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
Q6600 Quad is compatible, from what I've seen from a few other purchasers of these two there have been a few problems. Considering the Mobo is one of my biggest investments of the build, I want to make sure it can work with everything.
I am NOT CURRENTLY concerned with Overclocking and SLI (maybe further down the line, not right now).
To put it simply; using the P7N Diamond Mobo and the Q6600 Quad core CPU, what are some of the snags I might run into? Will the mobo be able to recognize the CPU right off the bat? Will I need to Flash the Bios? If so, I will need a Floppy Disk Drive, correct? Is there anything severely wrong with the PSU/Mobo/CPU/ETC that would require me changing anything?

     ???
A poster above is looking for P6n diamond it is available new from a Dealer on Ebay about 79.00dollars Shipped.i purchased an Asus p5e-3 premium wiFi open Box for 150.00 shipped 3 months ago no issues.he also auctions open box p6n diamond but charges 14.95 but people have won with 40.00 and it averages 50.00.
well i am typing from a P7n running a Q9550 2gigs OCZ 1150 running at 800mhz.No luck whats so ever getting past
2775 overclock.very frustrating but I probably have the original bios.i bought this on ebay at an Auction unopened. It was thirty dollars less with shipping than NewEgg even with the rebate they had.
this a great board i hope and I have to download the Latest Bios and try again.if I am still stuck will have to buy a Q6600go and fallow the various successful overclocks that are listed as i want a modest 24/7 stable overclock at 3.6.
I considered the P6N but having the crystaliser built in pluss the overheating issues with 680i boards coupled with the memory burnout issues decided to spend more money as I am a Semiprofessional Dj and needed something that will last me at least five years running overclocked.P7n has an extraordinary chipset cooler set up.i run old 486/386 fans blowing over everything.
I run two 8800GTX 768m and run 3 22inch lCds and 1 DLP projector and I am driving through the Soundblaster 3 5500 watt amps.MMX6 dj program waves Plugins.Having the ability to swap out the audio Card to another CSB specificaly for recording and midi key board was a Pluss.though could have done with that with the P6N diamond.
Part of my agravations with this board i think is that I am running Xp64 Bare to the bones as fast as linnux but a few minor issues like Asio crashing.i do not like vista but she is triple boot xp64 xp32 and shoosh dont mention it 32 bit 8&56^.
Hey was looking at the quad I think q8500 forgot basicaly same price as q6600 but tired of the hassles would prefer just to get it over with.read on other boards at idle q6600 at 3.6 runs 20-22c.
My board definitely has issues with 45n processors.  At idle 49-50c stock speed on a Modded OCZ II vendetta monster cooler heat pipes with TWO loon fans in push Pull??Well time to cut the Dribble and see what BIOS's are available.Probably I put the  wrong ram into this also.was a Bargain 19.00 shipped after rebate.expected the old style OCZ ram and got the new one same heat pipe desighn nicer lines.
amazing still eist is running only 5percent CPU usage temps stable but high.Going to crank up my audio editor reaper hmm let me ripp some CDs at the same time and see if this CPU will crank up.ah convert some vidio at the same time!
this board computer is also a DAW.My asus is used for vidio editing running a pair of Akimbos.and q9450 and a xifi .CSB of course!Building another asus p5k wi fi to run  connect to 8 wireless cameras so put this q9550 into the Asus vidio editor take the q9450 and get a q6600 for this board and be done with it.
Ah almost forgot the MSI update software etc does not work in my xp64 nlite.
just realised install it on the other partitions!!
forgot to mention the hassles and hours spent installing drivers on this xp64bit build.still have a minor issue my ethernet is labeled ethernet port then ethrnet port 2? and Xp64 keeps trying to Install a 3rd one on bootup?Afraid to uninstall #2 and go through the hassles I went through last week.I guess xp64 is not supported yet on this board just Vista 64 .Which I have on an Hp 9200t media center.i cannot use foul language  as to how frustrating Xp64 Vista is to me.

  • ABAP Runtime error on FB50 or FB60 after supplying SAP Support Packs

After applying the latest SAP Financial support stacks and OSS Notes we get the following:
Too many parameters specified with PERFORM.
In a subroutine call, there were more parameters than in the routine definition.
    Error in ABAP application program.
The current ABAP program "SAPLGLIN" had to be terminated because one of the statements could not be executed.
This is probably due to an error in the ABAP program.
An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
. The exception, which is assigned to the class
    'CX_SY_DYN_CALL_PARAM_NOT_FOUND', was neither

Since the caller of the procedure could not have expected this exception
