Proper workflow for youtube?

I'm new to FCP X, and video editing in general.
I created some nice videos, recorded in 1080i, and when the sequence is finished in fcpx, I have been using the following workflow:
1. Render the whole thing first (as I keep background rendering off while I work)
2. Use the "Export using Compressor Settings" in the Share menu
3. Choose the "Video Sharing, 720p" setting
4. Save it to my desktop
5. After hours of waiting...
6. I login to my YouTube account
7. Add the video, and then wait.
The problem I'm having, is the incredibly long youtube wait to upload.  The file I'm using came out of FCPX/Compressor at about 750MB. It's 9 minutes long or so.
I've literally been trying for 7 hours straight to get this stupid video to finish going to youtube. It goes, stalls at, say 56%. I quit, try again later, and maybe it gets to 86%. 7 hours? It's taking me longer to get the video out for viewing by the client, then the entire time I spent shooting and editing it. Awful workflow this way.
So, I'm looking for some real-world workflow on youtube.
Should I be trying to upload a 750 MB file in the first place?
If not, how would I export it down, and keep the quality at 720p?
Am I missing steps here?

Well, the video processed, and it's now in the wrong ration, it's 4:3 as in SD.
So, quickly, which File Format would I use? I get a whole list. I just chose QuickTime movie before, and got the SD ratio.
MPEG-4? H.264 for Apple Devices?
Then I need to choose Video Compression, there are several H.264 options there as well.
I do see the bitrate slider, and can easily enter 5,000 for that.
Just a few tips would ge appreciated.
Anything I can do to streamline the creation of the proper file for youtube upload would be great.

  • Multipage forms- best workflow for future editing

I'm struggling with understanding the proper workflow for creating and editing multipage forms.  I need to create a medical history form (PDF) where patients can enter their medical history and patient info.
This form is usually 6+ pages.  Each page has a header (logo and office address) and a footer (page number).
The problem I'm running into is when we need to make a change like add a question or change the wording of a question.  Is there a way we can edit the form (either in Word or an Adobe product) and not have to recreate the form in Acrobat Pro?
I've hired contract workers from Odesk and each one I've hiried claims they can edit the questions after the form is created.  But each time this happens, the form looks worse after each edit.  I'm pretty sure this is the problem because they are editing the text in Acrobat Pro, which has very limited text editing capabilites.
I'm wasting so much time going back and forth with contractors explaining to them that the text format looks like crap.
I'm very capable of designing and editing these forms myself, but I just don't have the time.  So I'm contracting this work out.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice on the best workflow for PDF forms.
    Thanks!

Yes, there is a way. You need to edit the original file format (Word, in
this case), and then create a new PDF.
You then open the old version (that has the form fields in it), and use the
Replace Pages command to replace the old pages with the ones from the new
file. This will maintain the form fields in place, although you might need
to rename them and align them with the new page contents.
This is a much better approach than trying to edit the PDF directly
(although this option has been greatly improved in Acrobat XI).

  • What's best workflow for Keynote iMovie iDVD Burning

I create a slideshow in Keynote each year for our 5th graders.  I then export as a QT movie and import it into iMovie to add chapters markers, titles, credits, etc.  I then export as a QT movie again to pull into iDVD.  I then add Menu's and then burn to a dvd.
It seems like a lot of re-encoding.  It gets encoded coming out of Keynote, then again coming out of iMovie, then yet again when creating the DVD out of iDVD.
Is this the proper workflow or is there something else that I should be doing?
By the way, which is best codec to export the video?  There's multiple choices when exporting from Keynote and then the same choices when exporting from iMovie.  Is there an ideal codec when the ultimate product is a standard-definition DVD?
    I'm running iWork '09 and iLife '11.

You should be able to use the same encoding for out of Keynote and for all editing in iMovie and then out of iMovie so the only additional transcoding should be the final mpg-2 encoding in iDVD which actually creates a DVD.

  • What is the workflow for creating templates in full FrameMaker and pushing them to XML Author?

    Hi All,
I'm working for a large organization (3000+) that is subdivided into 60+ business units.  I'm trying to figure out the workflow for using full FrameMaker to create a template that I can provide my business units to fill in via XML Author, send back to me, and then I can publish into a number of products using the Tech. Comm. Suite.  I am somewhat new to XML so I am not sure how to get my structure and format to translate.
Can anybody clarify what the general workflow would be for this process?  All I have been able to find is the flowchart showing full FM to XML to XML Author and back to full FM.  From my test driving of the Tech Comm Suite though it has not appeared that easy.
    ---Corey---

    Hi Corey...
Here's a rough outline of what is needed.
    1) First, you'll need to define the data model that your documents are using. This could be some existing model like DITA or a new custom model. Depending on the complexity of your document's needs, this may drive that decision.
    2) Once you've got a model, you'll need to create a structure application (in full FM). This structure application defines the model and appearance of documents. This will provide the fundamental structure of the "template" as well as placeholder text for the elements where you want people to provide information.
    3) Then you have to install the structure application on each of the XML Author installations. This involves copying the structure application definitions file (structapps.fm) onto the client systems as well as the structure application files (into the proper location as indicated in the structure application definition). The structure application definition may reference these files at a network location, which might simplify the deployment, but would require that each person is connected to that network in order to create the files (pros/cons with this approach).
Once that's set up, your XML Author users should (in theory) be able to create a new document using the new structure application, then send you the resulting files. Lots of hand waving here .. but that's the general idea.

  • What's the proper workflow to combine multiple video types and turn them into one high quality DVD?

I'm trying to combine 1080i (29.97fps), 1080p (29.97fps), and 720p (24fps) video files into a single Premiere Pro project, and end up with a high quality DVD.
There are a few problems I can't solve:
    1. There seems to be interlacing and clarity issues any time I export it to DVD dimensions (720x480), and on some TVs I'll get a bouncing motion on the 720p footage (slideshow). Yet everything seems to look perfect when I export it something like an HD MOV file.
    2. If I use Final Cut X to make the DVD, I'll get audio popping and decent image quality. Yet if I use Encore, I'll get horrible interlacing, but good audio.
I don't have any training in video workflow let alone how to properly diagnose and solve problems that arise. So I need someone to lay out the proper workflow and settings from start to finish to get these three different types of footage to look great on a DVD using Premiere/Encore.
I've attached sample images showing the types of footage I'm using and the kind of problems I'm running into for reference.

By far the best way to get the quality of encoding is to use Compressor and not DVDSP. You can set Compressor up to do the AC3 (which DVDSP can't do). Alternatively, use a better encoder than Compressor, such as BitVice or MegaPEG.X... but remember that these do not do AC3 encoding.
Keep the encoded assets all in a single folder on your mac, then drag that folder into the DVDSP 'Assets' tab. This will import them all and keep them in the folder, which is a neater way of doing things. Select all of the clips within the folder (or simply select the folder itself) and drag them on to the track - they will go on in alphabetic or numeric order (whichever you have used as your names). If using numbers, remember to use '01', '02', etc otherwise clip ten, eleven, twelve and so on will follow clip one... clip two will come after clip 19.
Drop them all on a single track. You can then point a menu button at the track and all of the clips will play one after the other. If you want black in between then you will be better adding this in a NLE such as Final Cut, then exporting the entire sequence of clips as a single file. Alternatively, create a black .pict file the correct dimensions for the video format you are using and manually add it in between each clip on the timeline. Or, create a series of black .pict files and name them 011, 021, 031 and so on. Place them in your folder of clips with the MPEGs named 01, 02 and so on. When you select all and drop it onto your timeline within DVDSP a black clip will go in between each piece of footage (sequence will be 01, 011, 02, 021, 03, 031 ). This is probably the quickest way to do it. You can reuse the same black .pict files for every project like this and as long as you follow the same naming convention it will always work.
Like anything you want to automate, the first couple of times take longer to set up. After that it is a lot easier.

  • Need help finding proper page for Extending OA Framework

I am using OAF 11.5.10 CU2. We have a requirement to modify the table that shows on the OTL timecard notification. This is what shows when u go to the "Worklist Timecard Approval" responsibility and select the notification with type of "OTL Workflows for Employees". The table contains project number, we want to change that to project name. We also need to add a custom comments field.
When I go thru the "Extending OA Framework Applications" documentation it shows me how to find the page to export from the MDS repository. However, when I do that it doesn't contain the Timecard Entries table as expected. The page I exported was /oracle/apps/fnd/wf/worklist/webui/NotifDetailsPG, as the "About this Page" shows.
Please help me find the proper xml page to extend for this requirement.

t looks like it does creates the web bean dynamically. This is the controller code that gets fired when the details button is selected, which is the timecard details.
    if(s9.equals("Detail"))
    oapagecontext.removeSessionValue("TimecardBlockCount");
    oapagecontext.removeSessionValue("TimecardAttributeCount");
    flag = false;
    GlobalUtilities.putSessionValue(oapagecontext, "FOOTER", "detail");
    oapagecontext.putSessionValue("TimecardMode", "TIMECARD-REVIEW");
    oawebbean.addIndexedChild(createWebBean(oapagecontext, oawebbean, "Hxctimecard"));
So How would I know how to find this web bean to make the changes?

  • Workflow for Changing Item Level Permission in SharePoint 2013 (Office365)

I am using OOTB Tasks List in SharePoint 2013 (O365). Now my scenario is like this:
I have two user groups: 1.Sales Managers 2. Sales Executives
Sales Managers can create & assign task to Executive.  I want something like Sales Managers Can view all tasks (Which is by default view of tasks list i.e. perfact) but Executives can see only their tasks assigned to them. How can I achive this?
Can I use WorkFlow for this to Change item level permission or to assign permission to assigned to user? or JS
Can anyone have proper solution? thanks

    1. make 2 SharePoint group 1>Sales Managers 2>Sales Executives
    2. Show 2 WP of same task list in same page.
    3. Use Audience Target for Sales Managers Sharepoint group in first Webpart property. (All
    Iten view)
    4. Show "My Task" view (assign to =[Me]) Bottom WP for same task list and use Audience Target for Sales Executives. Or if you want it to see
Sales Managers as well, the dont use any Audience Target.
Bottom line - SharePoint group use in Audience Target will do the trick. OOTB

  • Best workflow for splitting up a long video into series of short videos

I've got an hour worth of footage, a series of speakers, each who speak about 3 min. I want each speaker to be a separate video on youtube.
What's the fastest workflow for doing this?
Also, why does youtube export take so long in Final Cut Pro? It's excruciating.

Make four separate sequences and edit each speaker into a separate sequence.
Export to QuickTime Movie. Take that to Compressor and use the template there.

  • Best Workflow for Rich Grayscale Images on Press

Hi, we're preparing a piece that uses mostly grayscale images and we want them to look as nice and rich as possible. So wondering about proper workflow to convert the images to CMYK using best percentages for nice, rich shadows, etc.
What I've done so far is:
    1) Got a photo looking pretty decent as a grayscale image.
    2) Convert the image to CMYK using a custom profile I created similar to 'SWOP, 20%, GCR, Heavy' - except that I manually adjusted the Black Generation curve to remove most of the CMY from the highlight areas.
    3) Do any final levels adjustments to get the photo just right.
    4) Save the file embedding the profile.
Now the photo looks good in Photoshop, and is very neutral (what we want). The darkest shadow areas are 95%-99% black, but with a good 40, 30, 30 mix of CMY. The highlight areas are black only up to about 16%, then color starts creeping in at proper ratios.
    NOW I'M A BIT FUZZY.
    - When I drop the photo into InDesign, the Prepress defaults strip the profile and convert to US Web Coated SWOP, BUT preserves the numbers. The photo takes on a cooler, more blueish tint. Is this to be expected?
    - We may not know the printer of the job ahead of time, and even if we do I've found many who don't fully understand color management and don't have a custom profile for their printer. What is safest in this case?
    - If we do get lucky and find out who the printer is, and they have a printer profile, how would we implement this?
    - Any other tips???
    THANKS!

This may not be the most appropriate forum for your question. The separation you are using is done using the Custom CMYK engine, which is a legacy (pre-CM) mechanism in Photoshop that has no direct relationship to ICC color-managed workflows. Legacy questions may be better addressed to other forums.
On the other hand, if, rather than use the Custom CMYK engine, you wish to separate your grayscale image to a CMYK ICC profile appropriate to your output conditions, the procedures are clearly outlined in "Real World Color Management", by Bruce Fraser, Chris Murphy and Fred Bunting. (Look for it on the Amazon site.)
When the output conditions are not known, make sure to speak to the printers once they have been picked, and clearly communicate to them your concerns. You can provide a CMYK image file separated for US Web Coated (SWOP) v2, and ask them to reseparate it appropriately for their own press conditions. You could also provide the grayscale file, if they would rather have that one. In any case, make sure to tell them that you are looking for a high GCR.
It's also a good idea to send them a properly color-managed proof (aimed at US Web Coated (SWOP) v2), and tell them to make sure to match it. Other than that, and in the absence of any information that is more detailed and specific, there's not much else you can do.
    >When I drop the photo into InDesign, the Prepress defaults strip the profile and convert to US Web Coated SWOP, BUT preserves the numbers. The photo takes on a cooler, more blueish tint. Is this to be expected?
    InDesign is
    i not
converting the image. The North America Prepress 2 color presets use the "Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles)" policy for CMYK. This policy
    i ignores
the CMYK profile embedded in the image and
    i assigns
the default CMYK profile instead. The image numbers are left untouched, but the appearance changes because the default profile (U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2) describes print conditions that differ from those established in your Custom CMYK profile.

  • Workflow for syncing uncut audio files to a complete cut?

    Hello,
I've been working on a narrative project (about 30 mins). For various reasons, I was unable to sync audio before editing, and have now done all the cutting with camera audio. We recorded separate audio on a stand alone recorder, and now I want to sync it to the project in CC. There is one audio file for each night of shooting, so the audio is in these giant files not separated by take. Can someone advise me as to the best workflow for this? Clearly it would be possible to do it manually by cutting up the audio files, identifying the proper audio for each clip and lining up waveforms, but this would be incredibly time consuming. It seems that there should be some way to use either Plural Eyes or the new audio sync feature (which I don't have experience with) to sync audio automatically, but I'm not sure how to do this.
    Thanks for the help.

If it was my task, and I didn't have the recorder files in advance of having to edit, I would probably jot down on a notepad the in/out timecode from the camera for every cut.
I would then take the recorder audio and sync it up with the original camera audio on a different sequence. This might prove a lot easier than trying to do it in a bunch of steps by waveform.
Once I had it all lined up, I would make the razor cuts at exactly the same place as the timecode I jotted down on the notepad. Then I would delete all of the audio portions that I didn't want to keep. I would then copy over the audio track to the original sequence and line of the audio with the original sequences cuts, once again using the notepad to keep track of the places where everything fit.
Painful? Yes, perhaps. But easier than trying to sync up lots and lots of clips.

  • Is this a sensible workflow for Nikon NEF files?

    Hi,
I'm new to the world of digital SLRs having received a Nikon D40 for Christmas. After comparing Aperture 2 and Lightroom 2, I've decided to go with Aperture, as I already use Logic Pro so like the user interface and (I know a lot of people don't agree) I prefer the way Aperture renders the Nikon NEF files without extra adjustment. I'm also evaluating Capture NX 2, but am undecided as to whether I need it at this point.
Up until now I've been using Nikon Transfer to transfer the photos to my iMac, and View NX to view them. I like the automatic naming of folders in Transfer, plus being able to see Nikon's interpretation of the raw files. I've then been importing the photos as referenced files into Aperture for proper cataloguing, etc.
Is this a good approach? I'm a hobby photographer, mostly landscapes and townscapes, and deal with hundreds rather than thousands of images.
I'm a bit confused by all the options, so any advice would be very welcome!
    Chris

Is this a sensible workflow for Nikon NEF files? YES!
I shoot Nikon NEF files and use Aperure exclusively with occasionally a little blending of layers made from versions of the same raw file (to improve the dynamic range a little more).
You like Nikon Transfer's "automatic nameing of folders" Check out the Subfolders drop down menu in the Import Window in Aperture; you can do that and much more too.
"...plus being able to see Nikon's interpretation of the raw files." You need to choose between the Nikon route and the Aperture route I think. You don't drive from A to B in one brand of car and then go back and do it in another brand of car just in case it might be better do you?!
"I'm a hobby photographer, mostly landscapes and townscapes, and deal with hundreds rather than thousands of images" Can you keyword images and then use them to sort and group images in View NX? You can in Aperture.
From my humble experience as a Nikon owner using Aperture for two years I suggest you use Aperture to download, organise and edit your raws. I prefer referenced so that I can archive large numbers of Raws to free disk space and for protection but still search the previews or do a keyword searches. I used to use Capture NX to process any files that needed more work but now that Aperture2 is so good and has so many plug-ins I have left the slow, clunky Nikon Prog' alone. Be brave and jump in to Aperture. It is great once you are in!

I am going to be working with a Canon XL2 the next few days and am wondering what the proper workflow is. I will not be shooting 24p so it will just be at 30, and the final output is intended for the web. Please let me know!

Capture the format you've shot, edit it, compress for the web... nothing out of the ordinary here.

  • Best workflow for Varicam 720P project

Just shot a feature on 2 Varicams and will be using FCP Studio 2 (FCP) to edit our rough cut. The rough will be taken to a post house for final cut, color grading and effects.
We are bringing our footage from both cameras and a seperate audio source into FCP via a 1400 deck with firewire. (The audio is capture direct from Flash Cards)
Should we edit DVCPro HD or go with Apple ProRes? Is there another workflow example that I should be following or consider?
I'm 6 months in with FCP, coming from Media 100 and some AVID work. So FCP is still pretty new to me. Once I have a proper workflow with settings, etc I'm sure I'll be semi-okay with getting a rough cut completed...... I really want to avoid future issues or quality loss.
    Thanks in advance. Jason

Capture and edit DVCPRO HD. Going ProRes doesn't get you anything other than larger file sizes. I work on History Channel shows and Discovery shows and we edit DVCPRO HD native, color correct DVCPRO HD, and then output to HDCAM and D5. Flawless workflow.

  • Best h264 workflow for editing multicam 1080p 24fps

I have had reasonable success in editing footage from my Canon 5D mkii in CS5 multicam on my quad-core win 7 machine.  I'm finding though that the exported encoded footage (uncompressed AVI) seems to have lost some of its colour rendition (I haven't ventured into colour grading as yet).  Is there a preferred workflow for lossless editing of h264 footage or should I convert it before importing into CS5?  Any suggestions?

It sounds like your offline-online protocol is not what it should be.
Make dv versions of your media.  Do not change the names of the clips.  Be sure you are carrying over the proper timecode to the dv versions.
Do your edit with the dv versions.
Highlight the converted DV clips in the browser and make off line.  Do not make the clips in the sequence offline.
Then reconnect the clips, but point instead at the HD clips.  Everything should repopulate-- sequences, etc.
    Does this not work?
