Proxyagent using proxy tls:simple fails to bind to DS 6.3

If I configure the profile to use proxy simple, it works fine everything works including authentication (/etc/pam.conf and the server are using pam_ldap:tls:simple). If I try proxy tls:simple, it fails to bind to the server. Both the server and client are Solaris 10. I generated and deployed the certificates on both sides. I searched Sunsolve and the forums. Is proxy tls:simple an unworkable combination? Proxy anonymous does not seem to work either.
Any ideas?

This is for my internal lab network. You will have to use ldapadd to add it to the DS configuration:
ldapclient genprofile -a profileName=tls-profile -a defaultSearchBase=dc=gallifrey,dc=net -a credentialLevel=proxy \
-a authenticationmethod=tls:simple -a serviceAuthenticationMethod=pam_ldap:tls:simple \
-a serviceAuthenticationMethod=passwd-cmd:tls:simple -a defaultSearchScope=one \
-a followReferrals=FALSE -a defaultServerlist=192.168.1.6 > tls-profile.ldif
bash-3.00# cat tls-profile.ldif
dn: cn=tls-profile,ou=profile,dc=gallifrey,dc=net
ObjectClass: top
ObjectClass: DUAConfigProfile
defaultServerList: 192.168.1.6
defaultSearchBase: dc=gallifrey,dc=net
authenticationMethod: tls:simple
followReferrals: FALSE
defaultSearchScope: one
cn: tls-profile
credentialLevel: proxy
serviceAuthenticationMethod: pam_ldap:tls:simple

  • MultiServer peoplesoft PIA Domain doesnt start; failed to bind, port in use

    Multi Server PIA Domain does not start (failed to bind, port in use)
    Default (Peoplesoft) PIA multi server domain installation;
    After the setup we cannot start PIA and both PIA/ PIA2 cluster. One of them fails with error message about port conflict, port already in use.
    I 've been installing this kind of PIA's many times before. But this is the first install with Peopletools 8.49.19 and BEA Weblogic 9.2 mp3, P4.
    To bypass the problem we have NOT started the PIA1, PIA2 "servers" But that is a unwanted situation. Reinstalling and reconfiguring did not help.
    The odd thing is that on all previous installed PIA’s for different tools versions and peoplesoft applications we run here (on different servers) we do not run into the same errors. I am quite sure that on those servers where it works fine we only use port 443 for both PIA, PIA1 and PIA2.
    Since it’s not the port, I expect it the listen address to be the cause. I played around with IP address, fqdn, ip 127.0.0.1 (for PIA2 only) but nothing seems to work as the previous installations.
    web PIA multi server domain
    I start in sequence:
    startWebLogicAdmin.cmd
    startManagedWebLogic.cmd PIA
    startManagedWebLogic.cmd PIA1 and
    startManagedWebLogic.cmd PIA2
    the admin is running and the console can be reached.
    the PIA just starts fine (running) zie log below (PIA_log)
    when staring PIA1 it shuts down hust before comming up.

    Hi there. We solved the issue by adding a second IP address to the same NIC and filled in all listen addresses accordingly in the BEA admin console. This did not answer the initial behavior but is a BEA advised solution in a multi server configuration. I am still very much interested in the cause of the behavior change between 8.1 and 9.2 since adding a second IP address is a more costly solution which was NOT necessary in weblogic8.1

  • Solaris ldap client problem (tls:simple + anonymous)

    Hi All,
    I've installed Directory Server 6.3.1 and it works just fine,
    but I have a problem regarding connecting Solaris 10 ldap client to it through SSL using anonymous credential level.

    Now, I'm pretty new to certs so I'm sure I'm missing something simple here.  One thing that has come to mind as I'm writing this is that all of the issued certificates are using SHA1 as the Signature hash algorithm but if I remember correctly ISE defaults to SHA-256 when generating a CSR and I can't remember actually changing that.  Could my issue be as simple as this, or does this hash algorithm only apply to the CSR process?
    This is what TAC came back with, but none of the workarounds helped
    Symptom:
    ========
    EAP-TLS auth handshake  failing with X509 decrypt error. The error presented to the ISE  administrator is "12508: EAP-TLS handshake failed"
    Conditions:
    =========
    EAP-TLS certificate based authentications ISE 1.1.2.145
    Workaround:
    ===========
    1) Reboot or restart ISE  application service 2) Recreate CAP (Certificate Authentication Profile)  3) Toggle between ID sequence and single ID source

    Hi Amjad,
    Thanks for the response.  I realise that SHA256 is highly preferable, however as per my post the PKI is outside of my direct control so that's a whole other conversation.
    Cisco actually recommends avoiding chained certs for ISE, their best practice is that the intermediate and root CA server certificates should be imported into the ISE individually (I don't have a link for this, but it was presented in the Advanced ISE session at Cisco Live this year).  On the client side the identity certificate (machine) shows the full trust chain, so I would assume that there isn't an issue there but I'm happy to be corrected.
    The certificate format has not been modified in any way.  The server and identity certs have been pushed out to the clients via GPO. Tthe root and intermediate certs were exported in DER format directly from each the respective CAs and imported directly in to the ISE

  • [bug] "failed to bind columns" in cr4e

    (sorry, i don't know where to report this kind of bug/problem)
    i am using cr4e 2.0.2. i added a table into the report. i always got "failed to bind columns" error yesterday when i tried to browsing the data in the generated report (report is generated by java code, datasource is xml).
    with the same piece of code, i can successfully generate the report, browse the data with another different structure.
    i ran the same piece of code this morning (computer is restarted), the error "failed to bind columns" is gone!
    but:
    - the table is empty when i tried to browse the data by table;
    - the data is there when i tried to browse the data by column;
    - the data is there when i dragged the column into the report and preview it.
    what will cause this kind of weird problem? the data structure? or special character? or the cr4e is not stable? or a bug of cr4e?
    thanks,

    I have a report that contains multiple regular subreports including two cross-tab subreports that get data from SQL Server stored procedures. It runs perfectly in a PowerBuilder app using RDC. I am trying to migrate it to Java using JRC (CR for Eclipse 2.0). When I run this report using JRC (CR for Eclipse 2.0), it fails with the following errors. If I delete the two cross-tab subreports, the report runs fine. Can someone decifer the error message and tell me what should be done to make the report run?
    Thank you.

  • L2TP/IPSec with PIX using EAP-TLS

    Hi,
    i have big problems with using my PIX515 (SW 7.2.1) for L2TP/IPSec VPN-Connections using EAP-TLS. With the option EAP-Proxy activated on PIX a RADIUS Access-Request Message reaches the configured RADIUS-SERVER (IAS2003), but the request is rejected by Radius. I did inspection of the packets with a sniffer and see following strange behavior:
    - There is a Tunnel-Client-Endpoint AVP with no value and, even stranger, an existing AVP titled User-Password with an encrypted value.
    I dont understand where the encrypted Password comes from in the first RADIUS Access-Request message received from the PIX, since the authentication method should be certificate-based (EAP-TLS). And I dont know either if the Tunnel-Client-Endpoint MUST be present in the message. Fact is the RADIUS responds with an Access-Reject Message.
    The other AVPs in the request seem to be OK, and there is an existend AVP titled EAP-Message (79) that seems alright...
    Other detail: In the event log on the IAS the request is logged as Type "PAP" (and not EAP as it should be!) and the log tells me about a problem with wrong username/password.
    Tested the same client and Radius configuration using a RRAS-Server from Microsoft instead of the PIX and it worked fine! Could this be a bug of the Pix EAP-Proxy function?
    EAP-Proxy should pass all EAP packets unmodified to the Radius, right? This seems not to be the case. Comparing the RADIUS Access-Request Message received from the Pix (which fails) with the RADIUS Access-Request Message received from the RRAS-Server (which successes) shows significant differences.
    Every help appreciated. Please ask me for further infos if needed or if you would like me to post the Packet Capture file (Ethereal format)/Configuration information.
    Thank you very much!!
    Best regards,
    Matthias

  • Tls:simple

    Hi,
    I am setting up a solaris 9 system to do tls/ssl to an ldap server set up for ldaps:///. I can use the ldapsearch in /usr/iplanet/shared/bin and get a tls/ssl connect and results to work fine. But when I attempt to log in using the tls / ssl it still appears to only be using ldap not ldaps. I have configured with the authmethod and serviceauthmethod to only contain tls:simple. The cert7 and key3 files are in the proper place. ldapclient works fine.
    Ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Found fix: added LdapContext.reconnect( ) method. Although it works it would seem there is unnecessary overhead since it has to bind twice.
    (StartTlsResponse) connection.extendedOperation(new StartTlsRequest());
    tls.negotiate();
    connection.addToEnvironment(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION, "simple");
    connection.addToEnvironment(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, bindDn);
    connection.addToEnvironment(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, bindPassword);
    connection.reconnect(null); //new line

  • Restricting 389 to TLS (simple or cert) from specific userDNs

    i am configuring an LDAP server to listen on 389 (TLS) and 636 SSL
    I have applications that need to use "simple" authenticaiton on 389 and have ldap clients that are configured to use TLS:simple
    question i have is
    i want to enforce the use of tls if bind is being done by specific userDNs and IP / DNS addresses. I have read documentation and know I can setup ACI to restrict by DNS/IP but not by bind method (none of the bind methods fulfil the transport requirement)
    authmethod = ssl requires cert authentication and i dont believe Solaris ldap clients cannot support cert authentication.
    what is the best practice in this respect ?

    Hi
    sounds logical. However, I've seen that the user sl-abde has written a plugin with the needed functionality (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5062375). Unfortunately the Sun forums do not offer the possibility to contact a user directly, so I cannot ask for the code (can anyone help me?). I possible could be able to write the plugin by myself, but if someone did it already... Is there a community code repository?
    Any ideas / suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    If the port is already in use how to find which server is running on that port, how to find the process and kill it. I am using weblogic 8.1 sp4 in Solaris 8.

    Bruce:
    It sounds like (as you already note) failed to shutdown WLS, that is why the
    .loc file was held and why the port is in use, WLS process was still
    running. To see why it failed to shut down, I would examine the
    weblogic.log, aslo the servers std out and err. Additionally taking a
    thread dump (if possible) on the "it wont shut down" wls java process should
    show (maybe unless the VM is hosed), where/what is hanging on/around. Do
    you happen to have native code running with wls, say a type 2 JDBC driver?
    Otherwise it sounds like a VM bug. But more data is needed to be sure.
    Cheers

    I was shutting down the WLS server using the console shutdown and itfailed to shutdown completely. I then attempted to use the kill command on
    the process which usually works. This time I was unable to kill the process
    without using the kill -9 command. When I attempted to bring the server
    back up I got a failure to get a lock on the embedded ldap. I removed the
    .loc file and came further up but was unable to get further than the
    listener ports which were still locked to the old process. Do you know of
    anything I can do the get the WLS server back up without rebooting my

    netstat -an shows the port is in use but the only process that is alloweduse that port is WLS.

  • Apple macosx machine authentication with ISE using EAP-TLS

    Hello,
    On a ongoing setup we are using eap-tls authentication with account validation against AD. We have our own CA (microsoft based). ISE version 1.2.1 patch 1.
    With windows machines all is working well. We are using computer authentication only.
    Now the problem is that we wish to do the same with MAC OSX machines.
    We are using casper software suite and are able to push certificates into macosx, and are doing machine authentication.
    in ISE the certificate authentication profile is being set to look at the subject alternative name - DNS name of the machines. Whenever we set it to the UPN (hostname$) windows accounts are not found in ad.
    When MAC OSX authenticate as machines (they have a computer account in AD) they present themselves with RADIUS-Username = hostname$ instead of host/hostname.
    The consequence is that by lacking the host/, ISE considers that this is a user authentication, instead of a computer one, and when it sets off to find the account, it searches in User class instead of Computer - which obviously returns no results.
    Is anybody aware of any way to force MAC OSX to present a host/hostname RADIUS-Username when authenticating?
    Any similar experiences of authenticating MAC OSX with ISE and machine/computer authentication are welcome.
    Thanks
    Gustavo Novais

    Additional information from the above question.
    I have the following setup;
    ACS 3.2(3) built 11 appliance
    -Cisco AP1200 wireless access point
    -Novell NDS to be used as an external database
    -Windows 2003 enterprise with standalone Certificate Authorithy Services Installed
    -Windows XP SP2 Client
    My Goal is to use Windows XP Native Wlan Utility to connect to AP using EAP-TLS authentication against Novell NDS.
    Tried to connect using Cisco compatible wlaN utility and authenticate using EAP-GTC against Novell NDS for for users, it works fine and perfectly.
    When connecting using EAP-TLS, I am getting an error from ACS failed attempt "Auth type Not supported by External DB". But in the ACS documentation says that it supports EAP-TLS. How true is this? Is there anybody have the same problem? Do I need to upgrade my ACS? What should I do? What other authentication type could be used to utilize native WinXP Wlan Utility?
    Please help...
    Thanks

    Hi RezaRavasizadeh,
    It seems I got the same problem when my web service (calling another one) is called by a BPEL process... It works perfectly when I call it from a web application but when it is invoked by the BPEL process, it looks like it loses the context and can't retreive the class by the RuntimeModeler.
    Did you find any solution ?
    Best regards

    I installed sampleportal and did all the changes according to the documents,
    when
    the server started, there is this error:
    Unable to deploy EJB: CatalogWebService from catalogwe.jar:
    Unable to bind EJB Home Interface to the JNDI name: sampleportal.BEA_commerce.CatalogWebService.
    The error was: javax.naming.nameAlreadyBoundException: Failed to bind remote
    object...to
    replica aware stub at CatalogWebService; remaining name'sampleportal.BEA_commerce'
    After the server started with the above error, I tried to run the app, here
    is what
    occured:
    PortalPersistenceManager: portal'sampleportal/sampleportal' not found.
    Has anybody seen this before?

    Any suggestions on what I can ask my IT department to change on the server so I can connect would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jeremy,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    From the error and other description it seems that there is some misconfiguration with setup. You need to provide the FQDN name of the server as might server name is not resolving its name properly and so facing issue. As seems from below details:
    [2014-Nov-26 15:52:20] RDP (0): Final rdp configuration used:gatewayhostname:s:gato.gibbscam.com
    screen mode id:i:0
    use multimon:i:1
    session bpp:i:24
    full address:s:dev-JeremyS2.gibbs.local
    Configuration used and full address name both appears different so please verify configuration accordingly.
    Please check the DNS record, check certificate whether it match FQDN name of the server with certificate name, also try to check to connect with IP address and see what result you can find.
    You can follow below guide to configure RD Gateway and after that verify the result.
    1. Deploying Remote Desktop Gateway RDS 2012
    2. How To Work with RD Gateway in Windows Server 2012
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • JobOwner doesn't have permissions to use proxy 1 for subsystem CmdExec

    Hi All,
    I got a strange issue on my SQL Jobs which run with Proxy. Some of the times, the SQL jobs run under job owner, instead of proxy account. Furthermore, it causes the SQL jobs failed.
    "JobOwner doesn't have permissions to use proxy 1 for subsystem CmdExec"
    Kindly need an assistance on this issue.
    Note*: I have another solution by changing the job owner of the SQL jobs to user account of SQL Agent service. But in this case I want to keep current the job owner.
    Thanks,
    HR

    can you confirm if you did the same as explained in the last part of the blog?
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dataaccesstechnologies/archive/2009/10/14/who-owns-my-job-and-who-runs-it.aspx
    Also could you confirm if your proxy account has access to the subsystem and if not check this link to update it.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186760.aspx
    select ss.subsystem as 'subsystem name', sp.name as 'proxy name' from
    msdb.dbo.syssubsystems ss inner join msdb.dbo.sysproxysubsystem sps
    on ss.subsystem_id = sps.subsystem_id
    Inner join msdb.dbo.sysproxies sp
    on sps.proxy_id = sp.proxy_id
    You could run this to see if the proxy has access to subsystem.
