First click the tiny flyspeck triangle at the far left of the Options bar and try Reset Tool. If that doesn't do it, quit the editor then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift. Keep holding the keys till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Using PSE 6 and 7 with DPI's larger than 96

Many people have discovered that if they increase the DPI (dots per inch) of their high-resolution Windows monitor to make text more readable, the PSE 6 and 7 Organizer will no longer show the menu bars.
I just discovered a workaround: In the Organizer, set the option Edit > Preferences > General > Use System Font. This works on my Vista system for both 6 and 7, but I havent tested it on XP or other computers.
The results arent always the prettiest, e.g. the font in the Editors menu bar stays small, but the font in the dropdown menus gets large, and much of the PSE text stays small. But this workaround at least lets you keep the DPI large so that you can read the text in all your other applications.

Part II of II 4. Reconnect folders residing on a network drive. If youve moved folders that originally resided on one network drive to another network drive, the Organizer will treat them as offline rather than missing, and it will show a red circle with a vertical line in the corner of the thumbnails. An offline file is one that might show up later on, such as when you reconnect your laptop to the network containing your file server or you insert a DVD containing your archived photos. Since the moved files are offline, the PSE 6 Reconnect All Missing command wont do anything but tell you there are no files to reconnect. You can force PSE to reconnect many offline files at once: a. Select all the photos that are offline. b. Do File > Write Keyword Tag and Properties Info. c. In the Find Offline Volumes window that pops up, select Reconnect and click OK. Unfortunately, method 3 doesnt appear to work with offline files on a network drive. If you have a large number of individual folders and dont have the patience to reconnect each folder in turn, you can either use method 1 (restore the files to their original location) or recreate the original UNC name for the network drive (e.g. \\mycomputer\share). (You could also try editing the catalog file using the tool sqlite3 search these forums for how to do it. But thats sketchy at best.) ------------------------------------ If you reconnect a file and get the message <old file> was not connected to <new file> or The file already exists in the catalog, then youve stumbled over a PSE bug for which there are workarounds. All of my text/fonts is in CAPS(with no cap lock on). How do I turn this off?

My PSE text(all fonts) will only produce CAPS tho my caps lock is off. Can anyone help me turn them off? Thanks.

This is usually fixed by resetting the Type tool.
Since you didn't say which version of Photoshop Elements you are using see if the following helps.

What is the best Adobe for designing logos?

I Have a website www.savingsradar.co.uk and my daughter made the logo I have but I need to attempt to do one myself now but I'm unsure of the best Adobe software, any advice is much appreciated

I can't speak for other Adobe products but Photoshop Elements is certainly a good choice if your logo includes basic shapes such as circles, ovals, rectangles, etc. PSE also has an extensive set of drawing shapes; here are a few examples:

OK so you are currently in Full Photo Edit and making a New Document
1 -- where in Elements did you type the caption on the photo?
For example
-- were you in the Organizer workspace when you typed in the captions ?
-- or were you in the Full Photo Edit using the PSE Text Tool when you typed in the caption ?
Note: My guess is that you entered the captions using the Organizer. That means that the caption will be in a metadata field within the photo file but you would not see the caption when manipulating a photo in the Editor.
2 -- Do you plan to print this 8 x 11 on your home printer ?
-- Knowing what you plan to do with the 8 x 11 will probably help to suggest alternatives that might give you the caption more directly.
-- Of course you could use the Editor Text Tool to paste each caption on to its image if nothing more automatic fits your needs for your custom layout.

Keyword tags text box poorly designed, crashes PSE 8

I was very interested to see that PSE 8 allows you to enter keyword tags using a text box, as other programs do, promising much faster tagging with large sets of tags. But the feature has serious bugs rendering it unusable.
After trying the keyword-tags text box for less than a minute on my large catalog with 426 tags, PSE 8 crashed.    Even with a fresh catalog and the default tag categories, it will crash after using the text box about 40 times.   (See below for a recipe.)
Another bug concerns tags with commas in them, e.g. "Truckee, CA" (I have a couple hundred such Place tags). If you type "Tru" in the text box, select the tag with the mouse, and hit enter, PSE 8 will create two new tags, Truckee and CA, in the Other category, and apply them to the photo.
A design misfeature: After you select and apply a tag with the text box, it loses the keyboard focus. So to select another tag for the same photo, you have to move your hand to the mouse and click in the text box again. Partially defeats the whole purpose.
Recipe for reproducing the bug:
1. Create a new catalog.
2. Import 50 photos.
3. Select the next photo.
4. In the keyword tag text box, type "p" and then enter.
5. Go to step 3.
On the 40th or 41st photo, my PSE 8 reliably crashes (Vista 32, 4 GB of memory).   If after step 1 you use the Keyword Tags > + > From File command to load a tag heirarchy of 210 tags (see the attached file), it will crash after just 9 photos.   And with 426 tags, it crashes after 5 photos.
Interestingly, on my Vista 64 system (unsupported by Adobe, 8 core x 2.7 GHz), PSE 8 doesn't crash, but the text box gets unusably slow very quickly. WIth 210 keyword tags in the catalog, it soon takes about 12 seconds to find a tag after you type a unique prefix.   That time gradually gets longer the more you use the text box. With 426 tags, it takes almost 20 seconds to apply a tag using the text box.
On both systems, it's clear what the nature of the bug is: Each time you use the text box, the process's memory grows by many megabytes. I believe my Vista 64 system doesn't crash (at least not immediately) because it provides 3.5 GB of memory for use by PSE 8, while Vista 32 only provides about 1.5 GB.

Is the white triangle to the left of "Keyword Tags" pointing down or pointing to the right? See this screen shot:

PSE 7: How do I turn off the automatic text insertion on photos in slide show

When I create a slide show, PSE 7 creates text on each slide that states my cameras name: "SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA" How do I turn-off this feature?

In the settings dialogue when you start the slideshow, uncheck the "Include Captions" box.

Problem with italic text when saving a pse-project to pdf

We work with Photoshop Elements 6 and Photoshop Elements 7
When we save a pse-project (multiple psd-pages) to pdf and use italic text then the letters of the text is disordered in line.
I have attached a file with two textlayers. In the first layer i've set the word "italic" to italic and the hole layer is bad. The second layer without italic text is good.
With normal PSD files saved into PDF we have no problems.
Does anybody knows a work around/patch or know anyone if this only a problem in these old versions?

Actually any export of PDF page content to another file formate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) will need touch up / clean up in the native application 99 44/100 ths of the time.
While a well-formed Tagged PDF (e.g., ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant) can export to Word and call for little to no touch up / clean up PowerPoint is something else.
In the example the background color, text size, color and postion are well within the ball park. To "fine tune" would (of course) call for post-processing.

PSE 9 Text seems wider all of a sudden

I'm working in PSE 9 with text and it seems all of a sudden my fonts are typing with wider spacing. I know there is no kerning or even full "justify" text alignment settings in Elements. Anyone know what's causing this or how I can adjust?

Text size in PSE 7 Editor menues / toolbars

Hello, with my new 16.4" Laptop and 1920 x 1080 resolution I have problems in properly reading the text in PSE 7 editor menues and toolbars - they are so tiny.
Increasing Windows font size (DPI) in the Control Panel only works with "Windows-related" programmes (e. g. Windows Explorer) but it does not affect the text size in the PSE menues (it does make the 'welcome screen' which invites you to choose between Editor, Organizer etc, bigger, though, and also the drop-down menues that appear after you click on a menue item). Decreasing the resolution is not a solution, as it makes the whole display blurred...
Is there a solution at all? I'm using Windows 7, if that's relevant...

hi , well to increase the font size ,just go to properties and then on settings.
From there you can go to screen resolution and increase or decrease as per your wish.It worked on my system ,so try it out.

PSE 7 - Share - Photo Mail - "Default Text" - how to get rid off them?

I use PSE 7 (Vista, Home Premium) to send regularly pictures with the "Photo Mail" option under "Share".
In PSE7, just as in the previous versions, I keep getting annoyed by the standard text "Here are the photos I want to share with you". This text is then repeated in the actual mail. I like to have it "blank" and not repeated in the actual mail.
Second, in the generated mail we always get that lovely advertising for Adobe at the bottom of the generated message "I sent these photos using Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 7.0. Find out more: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/" which, gagin I have to delete everytime. Is the an option somewhere (.ini file or the like, regedit?) to supress this?
Third: That message "Here are...." gets automatically inserted into the subject of the generated message. Again: hot to get rid of this?
Anyone an idea or is this something to post to Adobe's Wish List forum?

Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0|Assets|locale\en_us(or wherever you are)\email\signatures and open the files there in a text editor, delete the ads and save.

Changing all caps text to lower case in PSE 7 ?

I have PSE 7.0, and am trying to add text to an image. When I add the text, and type it in all in
lower case, the text appears in all capitals, in text layer, and changing
my keyboard caps lock doesn't make any difference.
However, in the layers summary box on the right side of screen, the text appears in lower case - but when I save, or print etc, it always shows in all capitals!
Does anyone know any more about text editing in PSE 7.0?

First of all be sure the font you're using has small letters and not just caps. If it does, then click the tiny triangle at the far left of the options bar and choose Reset Tool.

Use the menu Preference/General.
You have a button to press on the bottom of the screen : 'reset all warning dialogs'.
Then start the full view (F11); you'll get the popup menu to set the preferences for the full view; check to show captions.

Editing Tag Text in PSE 13

I migrated from PSE 9 to PSE 13. I had text which described each tag. How do I access and edit this text using PSE 13? Using PSE 9, I right-clicked the tag and selected Edit. All text appeared. Using PSE 13, only the name appears for editing.

Thank you for responding. Perhaps the definition of objects has changed. Using PSE 9, I created tags within three categories: People, Places, and Events. For each People tag, I created Notes which defined information about that person; e.g., when and where they were born, when and where they died, who were their parents, names of their children, etc. These tag categories and names migrated to PSE 13 correctly, but I can see nor edit any of the notes associated with them. Where did all of that information go when I migrated to PSE 13?
In PSE 13, I can create and edit Notes associated with Categories and Sub-categories. But they do not contain the tag information from PSE 9. oes PSE no longer support Notes for Tags?

I simply can no longer locate the T, the text tool icon on the tool bar in PSE 12

I simply can no longer find the T, the text tool icon. In fact the whole tool bar seems greatly altered and reduced. Adobe help states that I need merely to "select the Horizontal or Vertical Text Icon" but they are nowhere to be seen, thus cannot be selected.
There must be some different view option, I assume.
I also assume that this is an easy fix.

Are you sure you're in Expert mode? If not, click the word Expert at the top of the PSE window.
