PSU for OCing

Hi everyone. I want to get a SLI setup soon with AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (90nm, oc to somewhere about 2.4-2.6) 2x GeForce 6800U, 1GB PC4400 RAM, WD Raptor, etc.
But I have a dilema about the PSU. These are my options:
Enermax:
http://www.enermax.com.tw/products_page.php?Tid=1&gon=241&Gid=18&Gid2=25
PC Power and Cooling:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_166&products_id=2133&osCsid=de21dc783c0728db96918737c69b333d
Ultra X Connect:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_223&products_id=2128&osCsid=de21dc783c0728db96918737c69b333d
I can get the Enermax here, but the PC Power and Cooling and Ultra I'd have to order from the USA. This means another 39$ for shipping and 20$ for Western Union money transfer. So, which PSU?
The thing why I'm afraid to get the Enemax is because a lot of people have problems with dual rails.
Thanks a lot.

Click on the Power link.  Hmmmm.. Why would powmax advertise Ultra?? unless they're some how related.  ANyhow this is where i found it ( sry for link to other forum.

Take it how you will. Like I said mine has been fine, so far.I just don't care for Powmax.
Antec and Enermax are reputable brands, you will be satified with either.  The neopower has the modular power connectors which may be desirable to you.

  • Bios For Ocing/Benching on K7N2

Is there any modded bioses for this board for Ocing/Benching?

Quote from: Stu on 13-April-06, 03:26:47
the default BIOS should be fine for overclocking, if you know what you're doing
the BIOS is two years old because the board is three years old and now obsolete. and it doesn't require any further updates
This is the same on every MSI board. And of course I know what I am doing it’s not really a challenge to oc a Socket A system lol. Using Abit as an example (not that I am an Abit fan boy) the last bios update on a 5+ year old board easy is 1 and a half years ago and about 10 bioses released for it. That is not a special board just a random old one. How many bioses have MSI brought out like 2?
The Comp is a UK Graphics card overclocking comp(Ati 9600 SE 128) and we bench on the 3 fm marks and aquamark but of course the benchs like CPU power
And yes I think that is PSU, answer to the question from the other thread.

  • PSU for 11.2.0.2.2

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but...
I'm looking to upgrade my 11.2.0.2 RDBMS and GI home to the latest PSU (11.2.0.2.2). However, I'm a bit confused as to which patch I need to apply.
The 11.2.0.2.2 PSU for RDBMS is 11724916
The 11.2.0.2.2 PSU for GI is 12311357
Should I run patch 12311357 on BOTH my GI and RDBMS home? The readme for 12311357 indicates that I should install 12311357 (which is the PSU for GI 11.2.0.2.2) which contains the 11.2.0.2.2 database PSU on both homes. However, that would mean we're installing the GI software on top of the RDBMS software.
    Have I got this correct?

FYI, I discovered that I do need to apply 12311357 on both homes (which supersedes the 11724916 patch).

  • PSU for MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti HAWK in SLI ?

Do you know what psu should i get for 2 MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti HAWK?

Depends what other components your system consists of. >>Posting Guide<<
But here is the link to the recommended PSU for such a combo. https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards
A 42A PSU is suggested. Thus a Corsair TX650 will suffice but to leave you with additional overhead you could opt for a Corsair TX750. The Corsair PSUs have single 12V rails which are recommended and have an above average reliability and build quality.

  • New PSU for MSI P67S-C43 (B3) with new graphics card.

    Good morning!
I'm in the market for a new PSU for my system (specs in signature). I think the current PSU I have would be sufficient for the graphics card I'm looking at getting,  GeForce GTX 680 FTW+ (EVGA 04G-P4-3687-KR), however, I'd like to go modular. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    like_a_god

A GTX680 system pulls less exactly same power like the same system with GTX260 (both 38A minimum without oc). So in terms of power there is no need for psu upgrade as the TX650 could handle a GTX680 with ease. Considering an oc card it might be 40A required minimum.
None the less this is a MSI forum so next time please don't ask for psu upgrades for an EVGA card. Better get an MSI card instead like N680GTX Lightning or N680GTX Twin Frozr 4GD5/OC (if you need 4GB).
If you want to upgarde the psu just because of it being modular then go for an 850w psu to have a noticeable power upgrade also. The HX850 is then the better choice. If you want a fully modular unit it would take AX850 instead.

  • Remote PSU for MEGA 180

I'm proposing this as just an idea and if anyone out there is skilled with electronics it is something to consider.  In fact, I may do it myself.
OK, down to business.  What's the single biggest component in any Mico PC?  The power supply unit (PSU).  In addition, the PSU throws off alot of heat (most is vented out the back but infra-red is radiated throught the case) and is generally noisy (fans).  Lastly, PSUs in micro pc's are usually underpowered.  Myself, I usually put in a minimum of a 350 watt PSU when I build a PC (preferably 450W).  PSUs are often ignored but believe me, a high quality PSU is critical to making a dependable PC.  In fact, may PC's I've repaired that were suffering from mysterious reboots were because of low quality PSUs giving off 'dirty' power.
So here's what I'm thinking.  Take the PSU out of the MEGA 180 (or any micro PC), buy a high quality, high powered PSU, and mount it remotely.  All you will need to do is splice in wire b/w the PSU and the plug ends (solder and use heat shrink tubing).  Then, use a wire loom to make all the power leads into one nice cable.  You could place the PSU in an out of the way area.  I'm thinking a lenght of about 3 feet would be great.
So what will you do with all the extra space you've created in your MEGA 180???  How about a nice big heatsink on the CPU???  Or, what about a second hard drive mounted where the PSU was?  The options are endless.
I've used a PC power supply to make a regulated 12 volt power source.  To see how, check out my website at http://www.e-maxximumrc.com/html/power_supply.html

As far as I can make out, the MSI PSU does have some 'special' outputs as the Radio and CD can be powered when the Power Supply is 'Off'.
You would just need to make a 1 to 1 cable to get the power to the Chassis and the original connectors if you were just remote mounting the MSI supply.  If you did want to buy a new PSU then you would need to measure what voltages you get where with the MSI PSU 'Off' and also check that the ATX connector (and the others) are standard as I would imagine this is a Custom PSU for MSI and there is a danger that things may not be as they appear.  For instance, I know that Dell have standard looking ATX PSU's but when you actually check the pinout, they are different and connect a normal PSU to a Dell system and it becomes very 'interesting' - mostly a lot of electrons escape in the form of smoke!!

i want oc my cpu to stable at 2.8ghz,  my cpu was venice 3200, it at default voltage go stable at 2.6ghz, and a little more voltage  ,it can stable at 300x9 at 1.45v.
i also have ask for what is the safe range of venice, someone said 1.5-1.6should be ok, so i want more juice of my cpu, but i only have a 400w psu  (12 v1 at 10a,12v2at 15a, 5v at 21a, 3.3v at 22a), is it good enough for oc at 2.7ghz or 2.8ghz?  i want to change it for stable oc system.

  • PSU for K8T Neo-FIS2R

What model of PSU has its cooling fans which can be controlled from PWFAN1 and PWFAN2 on the K8T Neo-FIS2R motherboard?
    Kaz

Sorry but there is no real specific one out there that I have ever seen. Most of the Bios options you see have been available since forever with Via Chipsetted boards. However DOT is specific to MSI which is Dynamic Overclocking technolodies. DOT can automatically overclock your voard depending one what your doing. I recommend staying away from it as it can cause as many issues as anything in your rig. And then there is Cool and Quiet which is an AMD 64 Bit CPU specific option to downclock the multipliers for the CPU during Idle Times to save energy and keep the CPU cool. Again it is not really needed.
The rest of the stuff you can use google to find individually or by searching for Award Bios's or Via Chipset Bios settings.
These are way to much for any one person to post a complete guide to here as all the info is readily available elsewhere.

  • PSU for the HP s5300z

I am putting a new video card into my s5300z and need to add power. I understnad this pc has 220W and the new vid card requires 350W. How do you add to the PSU? Does the current one get pulled and a new one put in it place or do you simply add an additional PSU to bump up the power. Are there any instructions on doing this anywhere?

You can only replace the power supply.  www.newegg.com has some nice Corsair power supplies.  You will have to do some measuring since you have a slimline chassis to ensure what you buy will fit.
The s5300z has NVIDIA GT220 as an option. I don't know if a bigger ps was required for that video card.

  • PSU for Windows 64?

    Hello,
We have 11.2.0.2 for Windows 64 installed. I am unable to find ANY PSUs for Windows. I cannot find 11.2.0.2.5 , or 11.2.0.2 or any others (ie 11.2.0.2.7 for example).
Do they not exist for Windows? They for the other platforms (ie LINUX). I have tried in vain to find anything other than patches for 11.2.0.2.0.
Does anyone know why this is? I can certainly upgrade to 11.2.0.3. But where are the PSUs for Windows?
Anyone know what the deal is?
    Thanks

    2. Did you already know the patch number?
    3. Did you already know a bug number?
    4. In your opinion why were you unable to find the patch?
Thank you.Problems finding patches at MOS? Really?
Don't get me started ..... oopsies - too late! ;-)
    Log on to MOS
    Patches & Updates
    Patch Search
    Product or Family (advanced)
Field: product is <select a product> - list is too big and slow to load. Should be a drill down through a hierarchical list?
And release is <> - list is greyed out – non-selectable
    And platform is <select list> - select LInx x86-64
    Returns “no patches found”
Really? No database patches for Linux x86-64?
OK, change from platform= to type=patchset.
    Returns “no patches found”
    Really?
Pretty much the only way I've been able to find something is if I discover an actual patch number mentioned in a forum message .... or have a bug number that is published and then cross references back to a patch number. But even that doesn't seem to be dependable, though I don't have a specific example at hand.

  • Minimum ratings of PSU for 6800 Standard?

I have just received MSI Geforce 6800 and found the package that says it requires at least 350 watts.  My case has 350 watts but it is called Eagle with:
    3.3v - 28A
    5v    - 35A
    12V  - 16A
The case which comes with 350w I bought one and half year ago and it is worth cheap £30 therefore PSU is cheap and nasty?  I'm not sure whether to go ahead and buy a proper PSU but I would have to order from England as the computer shops in N Irelands are crap!
As you might wonder why I am posting this.  After installing 6800 card, my computer is running with 3DMark03 test but then last night during Troll's Cave in CPU testing freezes & unresponsive so I had to reset my computer.   Today, I started running 3DMark03 but the text looks fuzzy or something...I had to stop it for the sake of my 6800.
Could PSU be responsible for it?  I just wished that MSI should state the PSU minimum requirement so that I can make order for both card and PSU at the same time.
    Thanks in advance

    Antec PS question
What more do you want? Wonkanoby said it short and neat.
    I'll elaborate...
For starters, looking at your hardware in that link you provided, I would never match up my current hardware (investment) with that power supply except in the minimalistic conditions. Such as just one drive, one optical and a midrange VGA card, perhaps a sound card, but that's about it. The voltages you supplied are from idle? Perhaps you should download and install MBM5 and get an average over time as MBM5 does that.
Run a graphic intensive game for an hour or so, then look at the average in MBM5 on the 12v rail, then you will get a good idea of the load capabilities.
IMHO that is bare butt minimum for your system and you increase the risk of damaging your investment when you push a PSU beyond it's capabilities. Don't forget that if you have poor cooling, the PSU's efficiency drops and you are not getting the rated power. Seems as if you don't have a cooling problem as you don't have any problems.
Yes, overkill is a good thing when it comes to a $100 part that is the heart of your investment costing upwards of $1000. Seems a small pennance for proper operation and a peice of mind.

  • PSU for Oracle Restart 11.2.0.1 AIX 6.1

    Hi Gurus,
I have applied the patch 9655006 to GI for standalone i,e Oracle Restart. The patch went through fine but changed the owner on the grid directory and permissions. The grid directory under /u01/app/11.2.0/grid should be owned by root, instead after patch its owned by grid now .
Let me breakdown the steps that i performed for patch aplication.
1)Unlocked the grid home as root using command "roothas.pl -unlock"
2)Applied PSU patch as grid user(grid) using command opatch apply .The patch was applied successfully.
3)tried locking the grid home again using comand "roothas.pl -patch"
the command failed with the error "u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/crsctl[158]: /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/crsctl.bin: cannot execute".

    OPatch Automation for GI
The utility (opatch) must be executed by an operating system (OS) user with root privileges (usually user root), and it must be executed on each node in the cluster.
    Patching the Oracle Restart Home
Before patching the Oracle Restart home, keep the Oracle Restart stack up and running.
To patch the Oracle Restart home, as an administrative user (usually root user) execute a command in the following format:
    #opatch auto <UNZIPPED_PATCH_LOCATION> -oh <path to Oracle Restart home>
So, opatch with root privileges unlock and relock the GRID_HOME automatically.
This patch must be applied using an administrative user (usually root user).
My concerned is how the privileges got changed and how safe/consistent is the environment now after patch?what would be the impact of this on my existing environment?Did you take backup of Grid Home before patch?
Backup of the Oracle home can be taken using any preferred method. You can use any tool such as zip, tar, and cpio to compress the Oracle home. It is highly recommended to take a backup of Oracle home binaries while applying patch set(s) or patches. You should also backup the Central Inventory where the Oracle home is installed, while taking backup of the Oracle Home.
If you have backup of Oracle Home then you can restore all files of GRID HOME (Oracle Restart) and apply patch using root user.

  • Best PSU for PT880 running Prescott

Any thoughts?  Basically it comes down to these things:
    1. Price
    2. Wattage
    3. Sound (kinda want it quiet)
Are there any that are cheap enough that have extra power in all the rails?  I only got a 380W but it runs.  Cept I built this computer to get a good overclock on air cooling.  I find myself wanting a better power supply.  I think that is the only thing that holds me back.
Also, what are some of the voltages you guys are giving to the AGP, North and Southbridges?  I know the AGP can vary and the RAM can vary as well.  It seems I can push my ram to 2.8 and AGP to 1.8.  The other two I haven't really tried to push yet.  And if you do push them, would it make the board any more stable when you overclock?

    Hi,
Enermax 465 range........my personnel opinion. But I started with a QTEC, then went to Eneramx 365 then Enermax 465.....and then brought another for other system because they are very good.
Price....Hmmm..... how much is system worth? How would you feel if you brought a cheap 600W PSU and your system blew up??? I paid £50 inc P&P via Ebay each PSU (About $80 US)
You can increase the BUS on North/South bridges, not the volts........If your components can handle the voltages you are using....fine. I would advise setting system to standard, running a benchmark (Save so you can compare) and then tweaking up and benching system until you acheive STABILITY/PERFORMANCE.
    Example:
I can set system to POST at 4Ghz but it won't load windows!!!!!!
