I'm working on a Web Services client application which invokes Web Services methods through a proxy server.
I'm looking for sites where sample web services are available to test my proxy server access.
I appreciate some help.

Axis securing seemingly public web services

Hi,
Their may be an obvious answer to this question, but I've done some searching and come up blank so far.
I am wondering if you can restrict which domains are allowed to access the web services on your axis web application (I am running axis on tomcat).
It is my understanding that anyone who know the address of a servlet that generates a WSDL file will be able to consume this service. I want to be able to prevent this and only allow my own domain access to web service.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

You might need to clarify your question - are you are asking if XE/HTML DB will adequately run an internet website with 50 concurrent users? The answer is - yes (depending on the application of course ;) )

XE contains its own web server in the database as part of the XDB so that you no longer need to run the apache webserver. I suggest the XDB listener is principally intended to provide access to database schemas and stored procedures (one of which provides access to the HTMLDB application that you see on the GUI), rather than act as a fully blown webserver like Apache with its features.

Aspects of the listener (http port, folders etc) can be managed within the database programmatically by using the package dbms_xdb You can also allow access to other database schemas directly by placing calls to the dbms_epg package.

Perhaps someone can correct me, but I can't see anything for configuring virtual hosts in the xdb listener, so if you want that sort of functionality, you might want to look at Re: Change Database Homepage Port in front of XE for that purpose.

Public EJB vs Web Service

Hello all:
I'm newbie in J2EE and I'm trying to design a J2EE plattform for two applications. Both applications are J2EE, with J2SE clients. One of the applications (App2) has business tasks as "validateClient()", task that must be used by the other J2EE application (App1).
Two applications will run in an intranet, but in different application servers.
What is the best practice?
2) [App1 client] -> [App1 private EJB] -> [App2 public EJB]
3) [App1 client] -> [App1 private EJB] -> [App2 public Web Service] -> [App2 private EJB]
What do you think? I think option 2 is more scalable, but it could decrease the performance.

I am just getting into Flex 2, so please forgive me for my
newbe vocab.
Here is how my applications have worked in the past, i.e.

run the application with WS by making the mothod URL visible and
remote, but this is no way near the security I would like to have.

I guest there should be a way to call CFC with the thing
remote object that I have no idea how to set up. So please what

I guess this article answers part of the question. It is very
important to note that if the CFC is sitting on the same server as
the CFC the component methods could be public and not remote, thus
making it alot more secure.

Project Server 2010 Web services access with Client Certificate Authentication

We switched our SharePoint/Project Server 2010 farm to use client certificate authentication with Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0, which is working without issue. We have some administrative Project Server Interface (PSI)
web service applications that no longer connect to server with the new authentication configuration. Our custom applications are using the WCF interface to access the public web services.
Please let us know if it is possible to authenticate with AD FS 2.0 and then call
Project Server web services. Any help or coding examples would be greatly appreciated.

For proper authorization, the “user logon account” in PWA for the user needs to be changed from domain\username to the claims token (e.g.

Web Service calls Blocked in Flash Player 9/10

This is a common issue, so if someone knows of a thread that would help, please point me in the right direction. I was unable to find an exact match on my own.
The project:
I've created a video player which contacts a web service on a remote machine. It retreives a user's viewing progress, reports it back to the player, and advances them to their last location. Testing this locally from within the Flash IDE works fine, as do other web services (such as the ones found on webservicex.net). I'm using the as3webservice package from wellconsidered (http://code.google.com/p/as3webservice/) which has worked flawlessly in testing so far.
The issue:
When finally uploading the swf to a remote server (which is NOT the same as the one that hosts the web service) the web service hangs; not generating a fault, but basically not connecting at all (appears to be hanging/timing out). Research led me to create a crossdomain.xml policy file, which I uploaded to the root and subdirecctories of the machine hosting the webservice:

This is the one used by most services, including public ones like webservicex.net. Creating this file (named crossdomain.xml) and uploading it did not help at all. I also noticed that when testing the public web service for contrast, they didn't connect either.
I found another article which led me to believe that the cross domain xml file needs to be modified for new security rules in Flash Player 9/10 - This article applies to Flex, but i'm assuming Flash Player is Flash Player:

I don't know that this is a CS4 issue, but in my experience it's been a for as long as I've used Flash issue... If you have the same symbol as diffferent instances in adjacent frames but give it a different name in those frames, the latter instance will adapt the name of the preceding one. Your best bet may be to assign the same name in both frames, though an alternative would be to shift one to a differ layer than the other.
There's still something of the error or your description that makes me wonder, but it's worth seeing if making a change as suggested takes care of things.

Web-service client in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 -- No Deserializer found...

I'm trying to connect to a web-service that has a wsdl on this url:

I can reach this site from a browser.
In the Connection Manager I create a new 'UDDI Registry' connection, and type in the url above as the 'Inquiry endpoint url'. When I try to test the connection I get the folowing error:
Testing connection with no proxy...
Contacting http://shimmer.oslo.dnmi.no/metdata/MetDataService?WSDL...
The inquiry endpoint could not be contacted. Test failed.
No Deserializer found to deserialize a 'urn:uddi-org:api_v2:name' using encoding style 'null'. [java.lang.IllegalArgumentException]
Have I missed something here ? I just want to connect to a public web-service, if someone could point me in the right direction I would be happy...

Hi,
actually this URL is non that points to a UDDI but to a Web Service directly. So you can build a WS client for this WSDL file by providing the URL in teh Web Services field

Digital Certificates and Web Services with Oracle APEX

Hi people,
I am working to implement Web Service communication using Oracle Apex. I need to create an application that calls an external public Web Service in Apex. So far, so good, and i am able to work with a public WS without any problems.
However, this particular WS I'm calling has two peculiarities:
1) It is SSL-Secured (HTTPS). This means i have to communicate using SSL and Public/Private Certificates.
2) The message i pass (payload) must be digitally signed using XMLDsig Standard (www.w3.org/TR/xmldsig-core/)
The first requirement i am still testing, but it will probably work if i import the public and private keys using Oracle Wallet and point to this Wallet, just as PayPal sample in OTN samples does, don't you think? Should i have any problems with this?
The second one is more complicated, all APIs i have seen for XML Digital Signing are Java-based or .NET-based, i have found nothing based in PL/SQL packages or such. Can you point me some other options to sign this XML?
Please bear in mind that, since the WS has more than one method, i am using plain old UTL_HTTP to call it (just like the PayPal sample in OTN). PayPal requests that all communication be SSL-enabled, but has no mention whatsoever for Digital Signatures.
Can anybody help me out with this? any help is highly appreciated.

You are correct in that there should be no problem interacting with a Web service that has an HTTPS endpoint as long as you create a wallet and specify it when you make your UTL_HTTP calls, like the PayPal example.
I am not aware of a PL/SQL utility to create a XMLDsig Standard message, but if you find some Java source out there that does it, you may be able to follow a technique I used for a similar use case:

Consuming RESTful web service in Apex app

I have created a RESTful Web service through an Apex application (4.0) and published as a public web service. Can someone point me to an example of how to then consume that service in another Apex app? The output is straightforward XML that I can retrieve just by pointing the browser to the URL of the service created, but when I go to create the REST Web Reference for the receiving application, I am not sure what to put for the Response Xpath or Response Namespace. The service is meant to just return report records that were created in the REStful Web service with no input required.
The service XML looks like this:

I have made progress in this. I created the RESTful report service in an Apex 4.1 application. (previous attempt was with 4.0 version of Apex)
I then created a separate application and created a RESTful web service reference that I tested and it was successful in bringing up XML. However in Apex 4.1, when I create a report following the Wizard for creating a report based on that Web service reference I get the error: ORA-31013: Invalid XPATH expression Which I don't know how to get past. The Xpath provided in the Web service reference test gave output below and brought back a result. There was no where during the Report creation to provide an Xpath. Am I missing something or is 4.1 not quite Web service ready??
This is what I get from the test of the Web service reference in the Apex App from which I want to create a report: (I see in this XML the data I was expecting from the test of the RESTful web service but it looks like the output I get from the Web service test is more like the Report xml itself.)

Web Service Issue - Security or Coding problem? *HELP*

Hello all - I am stuck on a particular problem, which I've posted under flash player but also will post here in the event that it's my issue, and not a security/player issue.
I have built a video player in Flash/ AS3 which communicates with WSDL web services using the as3webservice code package from wellconsidered. The player makes a call at startup to check a user's progress in a series of videos, and updates that progress by talking to the web service as the videos are played back.
Tested locally, it works flawlessly. As soon as the player is uploaded, however, the web service' hangs' - so no fault is produced, but it seems to just never connect. This is presumably because the SWF is on one server, the web service on another. I've tried uploading it to two different servers, both different than the web service server. I'm trying to avoid moving the web service to the same server that hosts the SWF.
I've tried adding a crossdomain.xml file to the root and subdirectories of the server that hosts the web service:

I've also tried playing with the SWF publishing options (Local Access only vs. Network only options), but no solution seems to help. I know it's not just the web service i"m using, because public web services (such as the ones found on webservicex.net) don't connect either.
I'm at the end of my rope, and am wondering if this is a Flash Player security issue, or something I need to reconsider from my side (such as using a different web services package).I am wondering if a crossdomain.xml does not help, what other possible areas do I need to look at? If there is an article someone could point me to, or a simliar situation they've been in, i'm iopen to all suggestions.

You can generally check what the player is doing from the browser by using firefox with the firebug plugin. For example you can see the crossdomain permission requests or other urlrequests and responses. This is a useful way to debug as it sometimes shows issues or at the very least means you can eliminate one potential cause of the issue if there are no obvious problems there.
If you don't have firefox/firebug, then (if you can) post a url with the swf in it that exhibits the error and I or someone else can check it for you and report back.

Class Not found : oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver when calling web service

Hi,
I have installed the Oracle Data Integrator Public Web Services on Apache Tomcat 5.5 application server with Apache Axis2
When I try to call the web service OdiInvoke using the operation "listScenario" using only the JdbcDriver as input parameter, the response I get back from the web service call is:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Class Not found : oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Using the operator "getWebServiceVersion" I get a successfull response back som the connection seems fine.
Obviously the error has to do with the driver not beeing available but where should I put the driver? Or how do I make it available? When working from Topology Manager, all connections are fine.

Solved it on my own by putting ojdbc14.jar in the following directory: <Apache-Tomcat install dir>/webapps/axis2/WEB-INF/lib/
Thought I'd share in case some one else has same issue
