Hi All,
I have looked at the Packaged Applications.
I declined to use them because they would require quite a bit of modification to meet my needs.
I find it faster and more reliable to code small utility applications from scratch so that my clients get exactly what they need; no more and no less.
APEX is awesome at pumping out these utility applications quickly and cheaply with acceptable quality.

It's a two email process, one email has a locked pdf with the redemption code. The second email has the password to unlock the pdf. They come separetly, so you may have to wait for the 2nd to arrive.

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.

Where is the forum for storing and retrieval of Microsoft.public NNTP Usenet posts in the cloud?

I'm looking for all the microsoft.public c, c++ etc.. NNTP usenet posts from years 1998-present that I used to be able to access through Google groups.
All that was very useful and hard-to-find these-days info, particularly how C and C++ worked with windows-APIs.
These days, I would think that someone has all those posts in a cloud db somewhere.
From what I'm reading about Windows Live Mail http://email.about.com/u/r/od/windowsemailclients/gr/live_mail_deskt.htm they say that the support for it is virtually non-existant, and that the data is lost after a while. So please don't suggest this
as a solution.

Instant Client for Win32 and ODBC Application

Hi.
I just want to know how will Instant Client handle an ODBC Data Source in Windows 9X/2000/XP.
Will it be a new ODBC Driver?, Can developers like me ship that "driver" with the application so that the end user could just open the application and use it without any other installation?.
How many disk space will Instant Client need?, do we need to set up the Instant Client to connect to the source, as we need to do with the current client software, or will it be enough to set the Connection String?

Single click solution for installing and invking application

We would like to web-deploy a swing application. The users have limited computer knowledge. We can not assume that JRE or JWS has been installed. Yet we would like to provide single click link either to install first or to run the application subsequently.
I find in this forum quite a number questions related to this issue. The suggested solution is based on JavaScript/VB script.
Could I please have a working code encompassing scripts and jnlp files for single click solution ?

Hello, we have tried the compile the various Sun tools and posting on this forum to create a "close to single click" installation. You can take a look at our approach here:

It includes a combination of javascript and vbscript. I would appreciate any feedback you have about problems or ways to improve. You can skip the account sign-up step and just try to run the app if you prefer.
We still are having problems with Netscape. Our focus has been Windows and Mac, at this point. Our users are somewhat technical savvy and we are getting good user feedback with a few problems.

QoS Setup for Whatsapp and VOIP application

Hello guys,
                    I own a WAG320N modem. I wasnted to setup QoS priority for 2 applications "Whatsapp" and a VOIP application which allows me to call from a computer to a mobile phone. I use torrent applications and they take all the bandwidth. Hence i was looking to configure QoS for these two applications.
                     I went to the QoS page and they are asking about the application details such as port range etc. I don't know what value to be filled. I have posted a screenshot below of what its asking. Can anyone help me fill these details for both applications.

You can basically add Viber on the QoS. Under Applications and Gaming, click on QoS then enable the Internet Access Priority. On the Catergory, look for Applications>Add a New Application. Then you can enter the name of the Application. You may now add the port numbers. And since it's a specific port and not range, you do it this way;
   5242 - 5242 TCP (for the protocol)
   4244 - 4244 TCP
   5243 - 5243 UDP
   9785 - 9785 UDP

Licensing a web application

I was wondering if anyone knows of anything for licensing a web application
in much the same way that BEA licenses WebLogic server (with a license.xml
file). It doesn't have to be exactly the same but we want to be able to
restrict usage to specific IP addresses and enable/disable certain features.

Hi everyone,
I am new to this platform.I have a basic doubts that whats the difference between developing application in flex as a web application and desktop application from programming point of view?Can we use same code in both cases?

Hi and welcome,
The main difference between a web application and a desktop application is that web applications do not have access and can't manipulate your local system ( you can't open a window that displays all your local files, you can't delete, rename, edit local files and so on ). Obviously, this is just one difference, there are many more ( the best would be if you google for "web aplication vs desktop application" because the same rules apply for 99% if not all the platforms you can find out there ).
Desktop applications can have full control of your local system ( obviously, we have to take in consideration the platform we are using because since AIR is quite new in the desktop application field it is also more limited than other languages that have been used successfully to create desktop applications for years and year; like ce C# or C++ and so on ).
Another important difference is that desktop applications usually need to be installed in order to function where on the other hand, web applications can run in the browser without you having to install the aplication you are about to view on your computer ( in some cases, like of the Flash and Flex platforms, you only require a "special player" that can display the content you are trying to access... for Flash and Flex applications you need the Flash Player installed for your browser ).
So, before jumping into a project/platform you need to know your target. If you goal is to offer a fast, easy to access and no install required application to your users then you'll usually go with a web application. If your application needs to work with local files, maybe local databases, or it needs more control over the user's PC and so on, then you'll most likely go with a desktop application.

New computer and video monitors for HD and PP CS5.5

Dear All,
I have recently updated to Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection to work in conjuntion with Final Cut Pro. I've been working with a Canon XL-1s, taping with mini-dv format in Standard Definition up to this time but am thinking of buying the Panasonic AG-AC160 AVCCAM and upgrading to High Definition.
I'm working on a Mac Pro and have been using a View Sonic computer monitor and a Sony Video Monitor that I've had for years -- left over from the old analog video tape days, but it still seems to do the job well.
I'm learning Premiere Pro CS5.5 and the suite seems to be working o.k., so that is not a problem at this time.
My question is: If I start working in high definition, do I need to change my computer and video monitors in order to get professional results from my editing software? I have done documentaries and want to do them in high def and have the best video for podcasts and mobile applications.
I don't want to spend another gazillion dollars on monitors if I don't have to, but I do want to provide the best video that I can and I will buy what I need.

Thanks for your help. I have one more question. Do I actually need two monitors or will the computer monitor serve as a video monitor? I'm used to the old analog process of viewing the final video on a video monitor, but with HD, I would think that the computer monitor would give the same result as a separate video monitor. My ViewSonic would work, I'm sure, but it's a bit small for the HD format and I would like a bigger screen to work on. So, can I just use the computer monitor for editing and viewing the final product?
For Harm Millaard, I just think that HD will produce a better final product in small formats viewed as podcasts or on mobile phones -- plus almost everyone wants everything in HD now, and for some of the things I will be doing, it will undoubtedly give a better product. I want to upgrade my camera anyway, so I want to go to HD.

I have few Hyperion 11.1.2.1 running servers for Essbase and planning applications (Essbase alone applications and planning applications are running into different servers). Now we are planning to upgrade 11.1.2.1 directly to new 11.1.2.4 servers.
could you guys please suggest me the best way of migrating these applications to 11.1.2.4?

Hi John,
Actually we are moving all our existing servers to some new data center. the plan is like installing 124 in the new server in the new data center and migrate the existing 121 applications to the 124 servers.
So is there a best way to migrate like i said above? or do we need to install 121 in the new server 1st and migrate the applications from existing 121 servers, then apply maintenance release of 124 would be best way?
