Pull database information into fillable PDF

Hello,
I've created a fillable PDF from a printed short bill of lading. All fields work wonderfully, but I would like to be able to have the PDF generate a unique bill of lading number each time the file is opened. I'm assuming I would need to pull this information from a database?
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Figured it out:
function date() {
var fld = this.getField("BOL");
fld.value = util.printd("yymmddHHMM",new Date());
date();
This generated the date code of 1009212003. The BOL will always be unique and is almost impossible to duplicate until the year 3010.
Thanks for your help and nudge in the right direction, Try!

  • Can't see info typed into fillable pdf: See Below

    I created pdf forms using adobe forms central.
    )    I have the pdf I created using FormsCentral on my desktop
    )    I do a file save as pdf, so I can change the name of the document while still saving my blank original pdf document.
    )    I write into my fillable saved as pdf doc and then email it to a coworker. The file size at this point is around 67 KB
    )    This coworker opens up file and does a save as so they can rename it and save it to their desktop.
    )    This coworker than adds information to the document by tying into the fillable pdf doc.
    )    They email the document back to me
    )    When I receive the document it is now 1 MB, Also I can only see what I wrote into the doc before I emailed it to her. However if I print the document everything she typed in shows up on the printed document. Or If I click in each field that you can type in the words or numbers she typed in show up but only in the field I’m clicking my mouse in
    )    My question is would you say this is a user issue or an issue with the form itself, perhaps a bug.

    Hey George, I emailed you the pdf docs. One using Windows Reader and One using Adobe Reader. It does appear that the fillable pdf docs do not work very well with windows reader. Windows Reader makes the file size much bigger and doesn't let people who don't use windows view info put into the file unless you print the doc or click in each space to view whats written. It does appear that the drop down menus and check boxes work in both adobe reader and windows reader.

  • Insert Word document with chart/table into fillable PDF?

    My customer is using a PDF fillable form I created, which has a single text box to use for letters, etc. She has a Word document that contains a table/chart that she wants to insert into the fillable PDF, but when she brings it into the PDF the table/chart disappears.  How can she get that part of her Word document to insert properly?

    Hi,

  • Export database information into pdf forms for printing

    I'm hoping that this is doable and isn't extremely hard.
    I have an access database that contains customer information.  From this information I would like to export it into an existing pdf form (for each individual customer) and save it for printing at a later time.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks for any help!!

    If you are using Acrobat 8 or above, you will want to use LiveCycle Designer.

  • Does database information held in PDF needs security enhanced?

    Hi there,
    I've made a form with information coming from a database which is held into drop down lists..
    Once the information is held in the PDF, I can process the information the way I want using JSON Object...
    This way is much easier to alternate the processing of the information, especially when using Adobe Reader.
    My question is, would it be more than safe to encrypt all the data in the drop down lists which are hidden in a page which users cannot access..
    I'm just trying to figure out if there could be a case where a user would be able to retrieve the data from the hidden page...
    Which is a security problem regarding the PDF, even though I have a password protection for the PDF.
    Should I encrypt or the PDF is more likely safe to keep that information hidden from users...
    What's your opinion?

    Hi;
    Have a look at the following artilce on database troubleshooting: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/b0225775-88c4-2c10-bd80-8298769293de&overridelayout=true
    One of the suggestions is to create a UDL file, that would be helpful to see if the OLE DB is setup correctly on that system.

  • Typing information into a pdf document

    adobe reader version 8.1.2
    I had an employment application sent to me as a pdf attachment to an email.
    I can open it with the above adobe reader installed on my laptop, but I want to fill out the application by typing in the blanks provided in it.
    How or can I do this? Advise what steps to fill, ie type in, the blanks, like name, address, etc. in the application.
    Thanks

    If you can't type in the application just by clicking in it, then it
    wasn't prepared for you to do that. The people who made the form are
    just saving postage, and expect you to print it out and fill it in by
    hand.

    I am converting fillable word documents (set up as tables with protection activated) into fillable pdf forms using LiveCycle but am having problems once I try to open them in Adobe Reader 9.2. I am unable to save the pdf as dynamic (the only option is static). They are no longer fillable and show "You are viewing this document in PDF/A mode".  Any advise...what am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    I have the same problem.

  • I can't print a pdf nor can I fill a fillable pdf.

    Something changed about a week ago.  I can't print a pdf.  It state the document could not be printed, then there were no pages selected.  I have read the other forums and have tried to do updates, repair adobe, I have uninstalled and reinstalled it as well.  I have done a Java update as well.  I have tried to print as an image, but I continue to get the same notifications.  Additionally, I can no longer fill data into fillable pdfs either.  The experts at my work can't figure it out either.  Any solutions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi Stacey,
    Please let me know if you are facing this issue with a specific PDF file or it occurs with every PDF document.
    Also, I believe you have you checked the document properties and printing/filling of forms fields is allowed.

    Now How can I merge these 8 files together.?

    In Adobe Acrobat use File > Create PDF > From Multiple Files...
    Won't work with files created in Designer. You'll just get the same error as the OP.
    A PDF package is the only option available for Designer forms.
    (although you WILL get that option after you let "create from multiple documents" fail.)

  • Including database info into a website's home page

    What is the best way to include database information into a website's home page? (I'm thinking of websites such as news sites like CNN or the BBC).
    Is it to include a javabean in the jsp, and then have the javabean call methods in a servlet that accesses the database, in my case via EJBs? The javabean then captures the required data and this data is then included in the jsp?
    Is this a good design?
    Any help much appreciated,
    Mike.

    Actually if you've got EJBs, what do you need a Servlet in the middle for? Can't the bean peform the lookup & calls against the EJB?
    Just create a bean that looks up your EJB and gets the required data. Use that bean in your JSP and display.

  • Fillable PDFs and databases, what's it all about?

    Hi Everyone
    I'm using Adobe Pro 9 with LC built in and I started using LC forms to collate data from colleagues, basically I created a form then distributed it via email and people would then fill it in and send it back to me. I would collate this into a PDF responses file then export into a csv file. However I'm using Access Databases alot now and have been scouring these forums to see if there is anyway to directly link LC and Access, and indeed there is. Yet after reading many many words on ths I'm more confused than ever, so here is what I'm trying to achieve, so I really would appreciate any help. I've designed a form on LC, this was done by first designing a corresponding table in Access and setting up the connection, so that the fields in the form are bound to the table fields, I've even used the "SQL Query" option to get round the auto incrementation issue. So far so good. Now I need to email that form to all our intended users - none of whom have access to the Access database  - the form is blank and carries no information at all, they will fill it in and email it back to me, I then want to extract that data directly into the database, is this pssible and how.
    Thanks in advance to all.

    When th euser submits information back you can program the submit button to send back th eentire PDF or just the data. If you choose just the data you will get an XML data file. Now you can open your version of the form (with the database connectivity in it)  and import the data file into your form. All fields will be filled as if the user typed the info into th eform and you can use your database buttons to do what you wish with it.
    If you have Acrobat then you do not need to worry about the Reader Extensions part. By default Reader does not have the functionality in it to allow database connections and saving of the PDF locally. This functionality can be turned on by using Reader Extensions. This is done on a form by form basis. By having your users send the data file there is no local save requirement and if you are using Acrobat there is no need for Reader Extensions to allow database connectivity.
    Make sense?

  • When I try to convert an existing Word intake form into a fillable PDF, I get an unexpected error.

    When I try to convert an existing Word intake form into a fillable PDF, I get an unexpected error message and it will not convert.  I am using Adobe XI Pro.  Any thoughts on why this is occuring.  I would like to avoid creating an entire new form from scratch.  If this doesn't work, I will not be purchasing the full version of the software as none of my Word files seem to be converting.

    I used the document which I downloaded from Adobe called "Convert and existing form into a fillable PDF form with Adobe Acrobat XI".
    At tope right , Tools pane
    Open the Forms panel, Click Create
    Select Existing Document and click Next
    Choose Word file
    Error: "An unexpected error occurred. PDF Maker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
    I have tried several of my forms and none of them work.  There is no word attachment option to show you an example.
    Thanks

  • What version of Adobe do I need to merge an Excel file into an already existing fillable PDF form?

    I have a fillable PDF that is already created by an outside source that I need to be able to populate with an Excel file of data. What version of Adobe will allow me to identify the fillable field names and then merge the Excel data into the PDF to create thousands of unique filled PDFs?

    Hello djensen1x,
    Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat are you using.
    Also, tell me your workflow of combining those PDF files?
    Please share the screenshot of the error message that you get.
    Hope to get your response.
