Including database info into a website's home page

What is the best way to include database information into a website's home page? (I'm thinking of websites such as news sites like CNN or the BBC).
Is it to include a javabean in the jsp, and then have the javabean call methods in a servlet that accesses the database, in my case via EJBs? The javabean then captures the required data and this data is then included in the jsp?
Is this a good design?
Any help much appreciated,
Mike.

Actually if you've got EJBs, what do you need a Servlet in the middle for? Can't the bean peform the lookup & calls against the EJB?
Just create a bean that looks up your EJB and gets the required data. Use that bean in your JSP and display.

  • Including a "Black Board" in an existing home page

For a tennis Club home page I would like to include a service for (something like a black board) the members to arrange tennis matches with other members. I am using Dreamweaver CS5. How can I establish that?

TennisConnect.com has a component called Find-a-Game which might fit the bill.

  • How do I stay logged into my service provider home page.

I have an ATT Account and use the classic home page with the Firefox Browser. I want to stay logged in for at least 2 weeks or more, but each time I enter the Firefox browser, it requires me to re-insert my full ID and Password. How do I change this so I will remain signed in for a period of at least two weeks before having to enter the email ID and password again. I've added an exception for this site in the Tools section and it still doesn't work.

My sign in box no longer has the 2 week check box, how do I get it back?

  • What's the best way to include many files into a website?

I have a several hundred documents that I would like to load onto my website. I'm trying to find a faster way than hyperlinking them all one by one. Right now they are in pdf format but that can change. I'm hoping for the end result to be one page (possibly with subpages) with the different links for the documents on them. The visitor doesn't necessarily need the ability to download them, just the ability to view them. Is there a faster way to bulk or batch load multiple files into a site? Thanks in advance.

Getting PDFs to download is fairly easy and the method is described here.....

To get multi page docs to display in the browser requires the use of Google Docs viewer, ISSUU or some such thing....

Safari is the only browser I know of that will display PDFs in an iFrame without a plugin.

  • I am trying to include some widgets into my website through iweb. How to keep only the widget button on the homepage instead of the whole open widget?

I found the HTML code for including the Facebook widget buttons on my webiste...now I also wanted to include some other widget so I looked at www.widgetbox.com....I can download the html code and once I put that on my webpage then I have the widget open. How can I only have the widget button instead? For example I wanted to have the weather widget, but only the button weather widget, as if it was on the iphone, so that user can click on it just if they want, but I couldn't manage to do it. Does anyone knows?

  • Cell spacing on my website's home page is different and misaligned only in Firefox, looks ok in all other browsers.

On my website dominictwistphoto.com the homepage has three gallery buttons. Only in Firefox is the vertical spacing between these cells different causing the bottom button (gallery three) to stick out at the bottom and thus be misaligned with the main flash cell.
This only happens in Firefox. I've been told to go back to Dreamweaver and adjust the dimensions, but this will surely cause it to be incorrect in all the other browsers won't it?
I am using the latest version of Dreamweaver and Firefox.
Any light you could shed on this problem would be much appreciated. Many thanks

    dianej,
Try this, go to tools, add-ons, extensions. if you have more than one (the latest) Java consoles, uninstall them. You only need the latest console and it should match the Java Platform in Plugins.
I had a VERY similar problem displaying weatherunderground. It would not display the pages correctly and I would get pages of errors that stated
"window.addEvent is not a function" I spent the last two hours fixing this problem. All I did was remove the 6.0.18, 6.0.19, 6.0.20 Java consoles from my 3.6.8 Firefox. After a FF restart, no more errors.
There should be more information in FF when you update Java. No one tells you that you should go in and delete the older consoles.
    Good luck

  • Trouble with home page being indexed

    Hi
For some reason my home page isn't being indexed by Google and I can't understand why. If I put in site:thelittlethings.info/Home.html into Google it doesn't appear but it does if I go to that URL so it definitely exists in that form. If I put just site:thelittlethings.info into Google then my home page comes up but just as www.thelittlethings.info/.
I think I may have done something wrong when renaming my index file or something as this problem never used to exist. Can someone explain to me how I need to publish the site if I don't want my home page to be the first url in the nav bar because I think this is where the problem exists unless someone has a different idea. I know I have a few issues with the seo on my site but this seems to be a specific and fundamental error that I making.
    Cheers

Can anyone help me as this is still bugging me - it's not a problem I used to have and I'm sure it's because I've made changes to my home page and done something wrong when setting which page is the index - would that make sense?
The home page is http://www.thelittlethings.info/home.html or http://www.thelittlethings.info/ as it is showing in my web stats

  • Compile asdoc info into my swc

I have been trying to figure out how to include asdoc info into my swc file so when another developer uses my library he will get asdoc info with code hinting in Flash Builder.
I came accross this link that basicly says:
    Generate SWC
Generate doc XML Files using ASDoc tool
Update SWC with doc XML fIles
I got 1 and 2, no problem, it is 3 I have spent most of the day trying to figure out. I have found a lot of info referencing this page and example. So I downloaded the ExampleFatSWC.zip and imported it into Flash Builder, Moved the build.xml file into my project directory. Modified the build.xml file to fit my project and ran as an ant build. I get the following error:
    BUILD FAILED
C:\path\build.xml:21: Problem: failed to create task or type compc
    Cause: The name is undefined.
    Action: Check the spelling.
Action: Check that any custom tasks/types have been declared.
Action: Check that any <presetdef>/<macrodef> declarations have taken place.
    Total time: 112 milliseconds
Everywhere I look seems to point back to this build.xml file by by Jason San Jose to add asdoc info to my swc. Is there another way or better way to do this, this seem ridiculously difficult for such a simple, and I would think a very well used aspect of Flash development
    thanks

Make sure you have a <taskdef> that points to the Flex Ant tasks. More info here http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=anttasks_6.html and here http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flex/using/WS2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf69084-7a62.html.

  • Index, home page, uploading to website

    Hi, in DW 8.0
I have never uploaded our website's home page before. I have uploaded the pages within the site. These pages are under a drive - X:/sitefolder
The index.html file is just under the X: drive.
I have my site local root folder to be X:/sitefolder.
I did the following under DW
    Sites
    Manage Sites
clicked on the site I need & presed Edit
    clicked Advanced Tab
    highlighted Site Map Layout
Saw that the Home page says: X:/sitefolder/index.html
How do I get this to be under X because I do not want the homepage under the "sitefolder" just the X drive.
    Thank you.

Murray, you might kill me. I have another question on this.
There are 3 javascript files saved under X:/images
These files are used to run the navigation menu on every page.
One file holds the code to create the menu.
The second writes out the main menu.
    The third writes the submenus.
I won't need to - your menu choice will do that just fine.  I can already tell you have made a gross error in using this menu system.  Why?  It (sounds like) it depends on javascript.  Guess what doesn't use javascript?  HINT - search engines, and people using screen assistive devices.  That means that search engine spiders will NOT see your menu, therefore they will not see the links in it - they will not be able to spider your site.  Your SE ranking will then be based on the content on the home page only.  And with screen assistive devices as a problem, your site will not meet any of the requirements of 508 Accessibility.  If I am correct, you will need to replace that entire menu system.
Would I have to move these to the path X:/sitefolder so I can upload them in DW?
I am afraid to do this because I am afraid the menus will be screwed up or not show on each page.
Yes, you would have to do that.  Go ahead.  Now, adjust the link to these 3 files on each page so that they reflect the new location.  That's simple enough.  The bad news is that having moved the javascript files, the individual submenu links may also be broken.  So that means that if you want to stick with this menu system <sigh> you will have to recreate it in the new site definition.

I just installed Acrobat Pro for Mac.  I would like to set it up to go into the regular program home page (just like the windows based) instead of the "getting started" window.

    Good day,
Choose Acrobat > Preferences.  Click 'General'.  Uncheck the 'Show welcome screen' option under Application Startup.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Only my home page won't open when I go to log in, it gets the message that the session has timed out. What can I do about it?

I can log in and use my homepage in IE but I get a session timed out message when I try to log in while using Firefox. the URL is: https://familysearch.org.

I also did one other thing, before I got the reply. I changed my home page from the log in page to the website's home page. Then I can log in after clicking the log in button. It seems that the log in page wasn't allowing me to get into another session. Perhaps this will help someone else. The above solution was good in that it helped me find out all the places I needed to go to erase unwanted cookies, etc. Thanks for the help.

I downloaded Firefox 4 today and could not get back to my home page at all. Fortunately, I had loaded google chrome, and went in there and copied and pasted into firefox and my home page came back. Not sure what happened.. I have Windows 7-64 bit. I was afraid I would have to restore to an earlier point to get everything back. I have igoogle settings on my computer.

  • Can't change home page preference

I have a new Mac with two accounts. On one of the accounts, I can't set a home page other than the default Apple page. I set the desired page in preferences and it works so long as I stay logged in, but when I log out and back in, it has reverted to the factory-set Apple page.
This does NOT happen on the other account - home page behaves fine on that account. I've tried:
    - testing different websites as home pages. Someone in another thread said they thought it was something to do with setting Google as your home page (which is what I want) so I tried other sites, but it still happens.
    - trashing the safari plist preferences file and resetting all preferences
    Any other suggestions?
