Purchased content horribly slow recently only on Apple TV

Purchased content on wifi Apple TV is horribly slow within the past week. On two different devices in two different homes over different networks. I get content will play in X hours message.  All other streaming apps work just fine.
Over the same networks with an iPad (retina) content plays instantly.
Something is wrong with Apple services on Apple TV.

Hi cgbarrett,
If you are having difficulty with purchased content downloading slowly to your Apple TV, you may want to troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Horrible slow down, only when downloading files??

    Hi
I am getting terrible slowdown and the dreaded spinning wheel on my iMac, but only when I am downloading files using a web browser.
I have tried Safari, Opera, and firefox and the problem still remains. It only seems to happen when Im downloading more than one file. I have reinstalled Leopard, repaired permissions etc.
Im at wits end, because Ive tried everything. It takes about 10 mins after all downloads have been cancelled for the mac to start running properly, during this time it takes an age to do anything, open a new window or application, type in text, even clicking on a dock icon.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

How full is your hard drive? It sounds like it could be pretty full and if you have less than 20% or so free space available it will eventually start slowing down.

  • HT204053 How to I get music I purchased before the iCloud was created to show up on my new authorized iPhone?  Right now I can only see the Apps I recently purchased on the actual phone but older music I purchased on my CPU using the same Apple ID doesn't

How to I get music I purchased before the iCloud was created to show up on my new authorized iPhone?  Right now I can only see the Apps I recently purchased on the actual phone but older music I purchased on my CPU using the same Apple ID doesn't appear.

Does any music show in the Purchased tab on the iTunes store app on your phone ? Music can't be re-downloaded in all countries, and even where it can be it will only appear whilst it remains in the store. Do you have your purchases on your computer and/or on a backup of your puchases so that you can sync them to your phone ?

  • Why am I recently unable to use my mouse to scroll email topics or content?  I can only use the up and down arrows keys to scroll.

Why am I recently unable to use my mouse to scroll email topics or content?  I can only use the up and down arrows keys to scroll. I am able to use my mouse to scroll through internet searches.  It only seems to have affected my email messages.

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • I have 2 Apple IDs. How can I move all my purchased (paid-for) apps under only 1 of my Apple IDs?

Long ago I bought several, relatively expensive, apps under a old Apple ID.
I then purchased many more paid-for apps under a new Apple ID.
I was unaware that the purchased apps are tied to the Apple ID which I happen to be logged in with, at the time of the purchase: I thought they'd be tied to my authorised PC(s).
Now I'm absolutely sick of having to constantly switch between IDs, even just to CHECK for updates.
What I want to do is move all the paid-for apps which I bought under the old Apple ID to the new Apple ID. Both ID demonstrably belong to me.
Having all my apps under 1 only Apple ID would allow me to update them easily, and no longer be FORCED to switch IDs all the time.
In short I want to use only 1 Apple ID for the future.
If the Apple Store locks the apps to the Apple ID (as it does) instead than to the authorised PC (as it should do), then it should also PREVENT a user from creating a second Apple ID (at least, from the same iTunes installation on the same PC!), or at the very least display a HUGE warning that any paid-for apps purchased under another, older Apple ID will be unavailable under the new Apple ID! The apple Store, and iTunes, do neither thing,
Then the Apple Store and iTunes should at the very least allow a user to put all apps under the same Apple ID!
After all, the Apple Store and iTunes on my PC and iTunes on my Iphone can all "see" that I own TWO legitimate Apple IDs (with purchases and updates): it must be possible to move these apps from one ID to the another ID, at least once! They're MY OWN purchases, paid: can I manage them a bit easier?
    Marco

No, it seems you don't (want to) understand. I see 2 things very wrong with your explanation.
    1. The move would only need to happen between "accounts" demonstrably and legitimately belonging to the same user. In fact, I'm still using both the old one (for updates only, no new purchases) and the new one (updates and purchases -- actually no morep urchases until Apple solves this). And unless I'm mistaken, I can already have my apps on more than one iDevice at the time: eg. on 1 iPhone and1 iPad. I don't ask for apps to be moved between unrelated accounts: only between accounts belonging to the same "person". And I do not see how changing what is effectively just a "label" embedded in the binary files residing on my hard disk (or in the cloud), which can be verified as legitimately belonging to me thru two ID registered on the same authorised PC could possibly allow anyone to cheat the system. The apps' files have embedded an old label before, and a new label after the operation, both belonging to me, associated to my payment details. That's not rocket science.
In fact, both my Apple ID were at some point linked to the same credit card. And in fact, I only created a second one because at some point I managed to forget my Hotmail EMAIL password, not my Apple STORE password!
The two passwords needn't be the same, adding to the confusion. For months I used that account to buy apps, and never checked the email, since I was not interested in marketing from Apple, and I could see the payments from my credit card statements: that's how I forgot my Hotmail EMAIL password for that Hotmail email address.
Since Microsoft wouldn't allow me to access my Hotmail account anymore (and rightly so, becuase I managed to exhaust all possibilities, and even forgot the security question), and so I could not check my Apple Store emails, I then decided to create a new account, this time with a Live! email address, and this time I used the same password for both the Live! EMAIL and the Apple STORE authentication.
For more than TWO years I used the old Hotmail Apple ID to get updates, without during all that time being able to read the email or access that Hotmail account: this should tell you how stupid this system is! And for the same time, and until last month (I no longer buy anything), I used the new ID for both NEW purchases and their updates.
Now after getting both a new iPhone (only because the old one was unfortunately stolen on my holiday) and a new PC, i NO longer want to be forced to use both IDs, which forces me to constantly switch between them, and also carries the risk that I inadvertently purchase something with the old one, to which EMAIL address I no longer have access: so I can't even check invoices. But most of all, I don't want to be inconvenienced like this by Apple.
Since the Apple ID is such an important concept, forever ID tied to your purchases, it should NOT be an email address, which are disposable by their own nature. When creating it, one is naturally driven to think it'll only be needed to check Apple Store's emails and newsletters and the such. Why should people be forced to FOREVER use an email address, perhaps linked to a job or relationship they had years earlier, to update their purchases?
The thing is, Apple made the Apple IDs as email addresses simply to ensure that as many people as possible can at any time buy as many apps and songs as possible: just create a new Apple ID: after all, it is (seems) just an email address! and you're done. But they DON'T telly you they'll tie FOREVER your purchases to it. So you're reasonably entitled to think they'll tie them to your payments details, until you discover otherwise the hard way.
And since most Apple users feel humbled by Apple (the "genial" idea of calling "Genius" the support guys at the stores, wo usually don't have a clue on anyhting less than trivial, is part of this) and fear of feeling "stupid" for getting wrong soemthing with what are supposed to be the most user-friendly company and products, they will simply buy the apps again under the new ID, bringing more profits to Apple. This also can't be casual.
My apps are available, under both Apple IDs at the same time, to iTunes: be it on my PC on in the iCloud. The same mechanism that physically "embeds" that Apple ID in the app file when I first buy it, can surely be used to change it afterwards. It's just a matter of willing to do so. This content (apps, songs, etc) may be digital (that is, files) rather than traditional (eg. books), but I assure you that the disk blocks taken by the app or song files in the iTunes directory on my PC or in the iCloud are as physical as a book or a mp3 player: they CAN be changed in a perfectly safe and trackable way, without risk of cheating. Ever heard of MAC addresses? Or other unique info that can easily be gathered from the PC's operating system or BIOS? or credit card details, already available?
    2. The policy of inconveniencing (punishing) the huge majority of users (citizens) to prevent a tiny minority from misbehaving can be good for sheep, but not for rational people. It's typical of unimaginative, monopolistic companies (oppressive governments), not of progressive, modern and innovative ones. The cost of protecting their proficts from those who would steal from them is theirs (the company's), not ours (the users'). They should be more creative and inventive, in finding solutions to stop 10 people who would misuse their system, rather than annoying the 10 million who won't. I would never do so (mostly because I thing it's morally wrong, but also because I can't be bothered), but I understand why people invent ways to circumvent this gratuituos, bullish constraints.
Also, CAN'T you REALLY see the difference between these TWO options:
    - allowing a user to change an app's associated account ONCE IN A LIFETIME, even only ONCE per app
    - FORCING a user to switch Apple IDs EVERY TIME (DAY, OR WEEK) FOREVER, to check and/or update
??? Am I talking to a person, or to a robot, or to a undercover Apple employee here?
Both things are possible. The second is more convenient financially for Apple, that's all.
But it's also so clearly unfair to their customers. No more, thanks.
To finish, many if not almost all of the issues in threads like https://discussions.apple.com/message/18954743#18954743 (like husband and wife sharing a PC with two iPhones, or kids' gifts, etc) really boil down to this issue, despite being often complicated by sloppy explanation (when they say "password" , do they mean the Apple ID's or the Email account's?, and so on) and unreasonable requests (like having the same app, only paid once, available under two IDs, even if on the same PC: this is not what I ask, and it's unreasonable) -- and could be solved by the concept of a "master" ID and "secondary" ID: if you read well, the real issue is almost always for everybody having to switch between "old" (or "wife's", "kids'") and new (or "husband's", "dad's") Apple IDs: and this must be done on BOTH the iTunes application on the PC or Mac, and on the devices themselves.

My  computer crashed and once restored I could only sync "purchased content". I dont want to lose over 500 songs. My ITunes file now only contained the "purchased content" items. My Ipod Touch still contains all the original music. HELP!!  How can I download music from my IPod Touch and somehow get it into my computer (ITunes Lirbary)...... Can I down load my content to a computer that does not have ITunes installed?

  • Has any Coldplay fan lost purchased content within iTunes, I have recently noticed my Coldplay Live 2012 purchased on iTunes is gone from my iCloud library and no longer available for purchase ! A bit strange considering there new album just went on sale

Recently I have noticed my iTune purchased concert movies after being put back in the cloud are currently missing.
I have never had purchased content from iTunes vanish from my iCloud library and also not be available for purchase on iTunes.
When I had Apple personnel attempt to push the content back to me, they could not find Coldplay's Live 2012.
Even more strange considering their new album just went on sale and renewed interest must be prompting fans to review their collections.
A beautifully shot concert film is missing, a sad situation to be sure!
Thanks for any iCloud wisdom and other fans noticing the same thing.

  • Slow buffering of purchased content

I bought two TV series for iTunes, The Walking Dead and American Pickers. The former is in HD and the latter in standard. I don't have a problem watching American Pickers, but The Walking Dead is almost impossible to watch without getting frustrated due to the way the ATV buffers the content. There is only about two minutes of play time before the show catches up with the buffer and pauses for a minute while another two minutes is buffered. I went into iTunes and increased the streaming buffer size to Large, but that didn't seem to affect it. Is there any solution to this? I even tried pausing the show, letting the buffer build up a sizable lead, and then playing the show. The show still caught up to the buffer and paused to reload! This is incredibly annoying and pretty much prevents any enjoyment of the show. I'm using an Apple Time Capsule (first gen) as my Router. The iTunes library is on an external hard drive connected to my laptop, which initially I thought might be an issue--but I think the issue is actually with HD content. Standard def files and Netflix play fine.

I use an Airport extreme (802.11n just like your TC) and have no problems with 720p content using 5.1 sound. Since this only occurs on your LAN WiFi with purchased content that is streaming from iTunes to your ATV2 as I understand you post.....there are two suggestions: check your cabling to the peripheral holding the iTunes library. and second eliminate other use of the network when you are streaming (although it makes no difference for me)....Or maybe consider an ethernet connection to the ATV2.........even if you can't run a cable several devices are available that let you use your home wiring for and ethernet connection that will of course be more than fast enough.

  • Apple TV loses purchased content

My aTV has been losing purchased content - and this is the 2nd time that about five purchased movies (out of twenty) suddenly disappeared. While the ATV was paired with a laptop, I have not synced it for a few months as iTunes stopped showing the aTV... and I am sick of debugging this problem.
Last time it happened two months ago, the aTV support (they wanted me to pay for support first) passed me on the a secret iTunes support 800 number who agreed to let me re-download the content.
I have seen others mentioning similar problems. Does anybody understand what is going on and why has Apple been so bad in responding to the problems?

Sorry to reiterate what I aid in another post:
There are an increasing number of reports of this - I think there must be some recent bug to account for it, though it probably doe not affect most users.
    Please send feedback here:

There were not many reports of this kind of thing until the last couple of months, so it suggests to me something has changed software wise eitherin AppleTV 2.3.1 or recent iTunes updates.

  • Can't watch purchased content on Apple TV-?

    Hi there,
I am an American living in Saudi Arabia. I have purchased my Apple TV from the United States when I was there last and it is the 2nd generation. I have updated the software to 5.1.1. I have a few accounts on my Apple TV, but I am unable to play any purchased content on it. Everytime I try to play a Movie or TV Show from one of the accounts in my family, it says "An error occured loading this content. Try again later". How can I fix this?
Streaming through Airplay from any device (iTouch, iPhone, or Macbook Pro) works just fine, but playing purchased content through Apple TV directly does not work. It shows all my purchased content, but it will not play any of it. My iTunes store location is set to United States, as all of our accounts in the family are US accounts.
Also, previewing Movies and TV Shows in the iTunes store works fine as well. Its only watching purchased content.
    Thank you!

    Hi
I doubt it's the new update, I don't know if this is an issue specific to AppleTV but if you can play on the laptop it would seem unlikely it's because the content is blocked due to your location.
Have you unplugged AppleTV and restarted since changing the settings?  This can sometimes help fix odd behaviour and quick to do.
Hopefully somone doing teh same thing will chime in to confirm it works in Saudi Arabia with US content.

  • Not able to watch purchased content on apple tv

I have been having issues with my apple tv for a few months now!
I get as far as the purchased tv show episode within the menu and when I hit play and it say "there is an error connecting to iTunes"
I cannot get the latest up date either.  I was having Internet connectivity issues, but moved my modem closer and now vevo and YouTube work, just not my purchased content.
It was also freezing up on me contuously, but I reset it and so far it's been ok.
    Is my hard drive pooched?

    Hello there, Orrshaw.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great trecommendations for troubleshooting issues with connectivity and your Apple TV:
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4546
If you are unable to access or play content while connected to a Wi-Fi network
Restart your Apple TV: Choose Settings > General > Restart.
Verify that you are selecting the correct network if you are in a location with multiple Wi-Fi networks.
Check the IP address that Apple TV is using. If it starts with 169.x.x.x, the router may not be configured properly.
If the router is using DHCP addressing, verify that the router is not limiting the number of devices that can connect through Wi-Fi.
If the router is using manual IP addressing, you will need to configure Apple TV with a manual IP address. You can do this by selecting your network on the Apple TV and choosing Configure IP.
Disconnect and rejoin your Wi-Fi network by selecting your network on the Apple TV and then choosing Forget Network. Rejoin your Wi-Fi network after it disconnects.
Verify that your Wi-Fi router is not using security features that may restrict content or devices:
If your router has a built-in firewall, you may need to adjust your settings to provide access to common ports used for services. For more information, see Apple TV: TCP and UDP ports and protocols.
If you need to add the MAC address to the access list for the Wi-Fi router, the MAC address is listed as the Wi-Fi address in Settings > General > About.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For an AirPort Base Station, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
If possible, connect using Ethernet and verify that you can play content. If you are able to successfully play content using Ethernet, verify your Apple TV is using the latest software by choosing Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: When using a public or commercial network that requires a login or subscription, Apple TV may not be able to connect to the Internet. Check with the network administrator for assistance.
If you tried all of these steps and your Wi-Fi issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple TV to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Play iTunes purchased content without internet connection on Apple TV

I have this issue, If I am not connected to the internet, I can play my purchased content into iTunes on my Mac, but I cannot play it on my apple TV. as soon as I try that it attempts to connect to the internet and eventually it tells me the device is not authorized to play content. Now the apple TV is authorized to play the content just fine when I have internet, but for some reason it doesn't when I am not connected to the internet. Again this is content shared through Home sharing from my iTunes library.
As well I have only tried it with movies and music that I have purchased, not with rented content. So It would only make sense for me to be able to play my purchased content from my iTunes library regardless wether or not I am connected to the internet.
    Any ideas?

Sep 11 2014: No one replied to this (or posted a response to any of the similar queries) and I would like to have had this information earlier this week so I am posting for all future inquiries.
History: Internet not available for two days (switching providers). I tried to stream from my MacBook Pro through appleTV to my home television; and I received a "not authorized" error message for any iTunes PURCHASED content.  Also tried to AirPlay from the laptop to the TV and content is not viewable.  Spoke with the always helpful and amenable apple support tech and...
You CANNOT stream from/through appleTV or airplay from your computer to a home TV (or any unauthorizable device) without an internet connection.  Period.
Apple has determined that it's okay to view iTunes-purchased content on your 17" laptop or 21.5" iMac or iPad or iPhone or any device not connected to the internet (e.g. on a plane, etc.) BUT viewing on a 21.5" 3rd party television would be a problem.  It does not make sense of course.  And is especially vexing since the old appleTV also STORED content which meant you could watch without an internet connection.  And I trust that apple will quickly resolve this software/programming "problem" since some day the internet will crash for long enough for apple to be bombarded with a LOT of very angry customers who will not understand why they cannot play the movies they purchased on their home televisions.  apple, what are you trying to prevent?  I can take my laptop to a local bar and screen RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK on the bar's 105" monitor (as long as I can connect to the internet) but I cannot watch the film at home?

  • Is it possible to request Apple to store our cloud contents on European Servers only?

    Hi all,
We would like to use iCloud for "sensible" information. We know that the documents stored on the iCloud are crypted during transfers & storage. But we also know that US legislation is less restrictive than EU in regards to privacy.
As this, is it possible to request Apple to store our cloud contents on European Servers only?
Any answer would highly be appreciated.
    T.

My experience with anything purchased in my local (UK) Apple store is that their preferred method is to email the reciept, as a PDF, to the specified email id. (In this case your father's).
I'm guessing that if an email id is not given a hardcopy receipt would be provided.
The  Southampton store will probably still have an electronic copy of the purchase so you should ask them.

  • Keeping Purchased Movies ONLY in Apple TV

Hello, i keep getting purchased movies transfered to my macbook while unchecking the movies sync on itunes? I would like to keep them only on apple TV! Other thing i have an HD movie transfered on my macbook and not on my apple tv so i re-synced to watch it on apple tv and when i deleted it from itunes i lost it even before watching it????

Unfortunately you cannot manually control what is on AppleTV alone - it can mirror (ie sync) content you have in itunes but once you delete that content from iTunes the software assumes you don't want it synced anymore and deletes it from AppleTV.
So, if you've purchased movies/TV shows via AppleTV make sure you back them up somewhere oncde they've transferred back to iTunes from AppleTV - AppleTV is not designed as a backup device and apart from content directly purchased with it you can't transfer stuff back to itunes or your PC/Mac.
The HD movie you mention presumably wasn't a rental as you're only supposed to be able to rent these on AppleTV itself. I assume this HD file vanished from AppleTV as in the manner I explained when you deleted it from iTunes the 'sync' process happened and the software erased it as it assumed you didn't want it as it had gone from iTunes. Hope that makes sense.
Unfortunately this is the way the device works, but i'm not sure it's the most logical for many people.
