Push Notification pushes only doom

I'm trying to get push notification working correctly on my server. I seem to have hit a snag.
Facts:
-DNS for the server is correct (verified with changeip -checkhostname)
-Forward and reverse lookups are correct for server
-Pubsub DNS record is published and correct
-xmpp-server and xmpp-client records are published and tested
-Push Notification is enabled for the iCal server and Mail Server and correctly displays in server admin. I can see the com.apple.notificationuser connecting successfully to xmpp.
-Firewall ports are open and correct
-XMPP has a password in my keychain for the XMPP notification service
-Network capture verifies that when I run the iCal client, it connects to port 5223 of the server. However, at the same time, the server logs this and push fails to work for that client:
Jul 13 21:58:10 internal jabberd/c2s[8883]: [12] [::ffff:<myClientIP>, port=32787] connect
Jul 13 21:58:10 internal jabberd/c2s[8883]: ODKVerifyClientRequestFixed: Unable to authenticate
Jul 13 21:58:10 internal jabberd/c2s[8883]: [12] [::ffff:<myClientIP>, port=32787] disconnect jid=unbound, packets: 0
Note: <myClientIP> was substituted for my IP address of the system that executed the iCal client.
Likewise, Mail server logs a 404 error to XMPP every time I receive an email:
Jul 13 21:57:03 internal push_notify[15477]: error: <iq id='10009' to='[email protected]/push_notify' type='error' from='pubsub.internal.red-abstract.com' xmlns='jabber:client'><error type='cancel' code='404'><item-not-found xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-stanzas'/></error><pubsub xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/pubsub'><publish node='/Public/IMAP/internal.red-abstract.com/portnum/Mailbox/9EE76D0A-E16C-4D92 -B789-360B82C0BB58'><item><plistfrag xmlns='plist-apple'/></item></publish></pubsub></iq>
Clearly, something isn't right here, but I cannot unravel what it is. It seems jabberd/c2s is trying to perform some trick of authentication but it is not succeeding. Server is running 10.6.4.
Has anyone gotten this to work successfully? Verified it with a network capture?
Note that the ODKVerifyClientRequestFixed only logs when an iCal client connects and tries to set up a push session.
BTW, I'm NOT trying to get this to work on iPhones or iPads. I know that does not work. I'm merely trying to get it working with the iCal and Mail clients on the Mac desktops.

More interesting data...
If I visit /etc/jabberd/c2s.xml and comment out the line:
<digest-md5>
...for SASL authentication, then when I restart jabber/notification and connect with iCal, I get a different error in system.log, but it's related:
Jul 14 23:27:14 internal jabberd/c2s[90905]: [11] [::ffff:24.96.15.52, port=44572] connect
Jul 14 23:27:14 internal jabberd/c2s[90905]: Password verification failed

I see that even though the notification user opens a session, for some reason the iCal server doesn't get it right. This makes me wonder if the iCal server is trying to bind to the XMPP server with a bad username or password. This log tidbit is prior to the auth error above:
Jul 14 23:27:05 internal jabberd/c2s[90905]: odauth_check_servicemembership: checking user "com.apple.notificationuser" access for service "chat"
Jul 14 23:27:05 internal jabberd/c2s[90905]: odauth_check_servicemembership: mbrcheck_servicemembership returned 0
Jul 14 23:27:05 internal jabberd/c2s[90905]: odauth_check_servicemembership: user "com.apple.notificationuser" is authorized to access service "chat"

Jul 14 23:27:05 internal jabberd/c2s[90905]: [10] bound: [email protected]/icalserver.20302838dfc b45e5bc5dab8e6e49afb0
Jul 14 23:27:05 internal jabberd/sm[90903]: session started: [email protected]/icalserver.20302838dfc b45e5bc5dab8e6e49afb0
The auth error occurs whenever someone runs an iCal client.

  • APNS - push notification - missing close & view buttons!

    The Remote Notification PG states
"Note: If you want the iPhone or iPod touch device to display the message text as-is in an alert that has both the Close and View buttons, then specify a string as the direct value of alert..."
I am doing that but then I send a push notification I only get the 2 buttons in the alert when the springboard is showing. If my screen is locked (and dimmed) I get an alert with NO buttons!
Unlocking then causes the app to run, there is no choice for the user.
Am I missing something? Is it supposed to work this way?
    Thanks

This is the way it is supposed to work.
With the device locked, the following is the default behavior for Push notifications (as well as SMS and calendar alerts):
    • no buttons are shown
    • the "Slide to unlock" text in the slider changes to "Slide to view" (when the notification first arrives)
    • if the user at this point unlocks the device, the application will be presented (identical to clicking the "View" button when the notification appears on an unlocked device
    • if the user ignores the notification at this point and the device returns to its fully locked state (screen turns off again), the unlock screen will show "Slide to unlock" again - unlocking the device at this point will not open the application (i.e., identical to clicking "Close" on the notification if it arrives while the device is unlocked
    • in order to unlock the device yet ignore a notification, you can press the power button at the top of the device to blank out the screen and then immediately unlock the device

This isn't an issue. Notice the screen prior to the one that shows usage has an iCloud section and a Manage Storage button. For this button to activate ios needs to download a few kb from icloud. Switching back to this screen forces ios to download those few kb.

  • [WPSL]Shell toast notification displaying only limited contents in push notification windows phone

Hi, I have implement  push notification services for my Windows app .  I used shell toast to display the notification on my app.  The notification does come through but is cut-off -  displaying only limited contents, I need the whole
set of contents to be displayed on the notification. I don't have much idea of windows app 's  push services , can any one help please ?
    Nikitha

    Hi Nikitha,
This is by design, ShellToast will only show the limited content, this is consistent with the design principle of notification, see
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh465391.aspx
Present information in the simplest possible form. If your content doesn't require a headline, omit it. A message such as "Your download is complete." is entirely complete and needs no additional presentation.

  • Lion Server push notifications to iOS 5 only partially working

I'm attempting to enable push notifications from my 10.7.2 Lion Server to my iOS 5 and Lion clients. All services (OD, Calendar Server, Mail, DNS, etc.) are running off of the same server. Push for Lion clients works fine for IMAP and CalDAV. I see "Push" in iCal preferences -> account settings.
For iOS 5 however I  only see push enabled for Mail. I have confirmed it works as well. However, Calendars and Contacts show "fetch" in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> "Fetch New Data" -> Advanced.
iChat is running. I've verified all the iChat related ports are opened in the firewall.
I have a "real" certificate for my domain and clients are pointed to that domain name.
There are no errors in the logs. The caldavd configuration file in /etc/caldavd/ looks fine.
I'd appreciate any ideas where else to look!

Not sure but in well known ports is this

  • Push Notifications only work in Airplane Mode + Wifi

I have a problem with my push notifications. They only work exactly when I have my phone in Airplane Mode and with Wifi enabled. Here are the details of my phone:
    Phone: iPhone 3GS
OS: 3.1.2, NOT jailbroken, NOT unlocked
    Activation: Not Hacktivated
Data: "Unlimited Mobile Browsing" - others report that they are able to get Push notifications through this connection on my cell phone provider
Push Notifications: Do not work when not in Airplane Mode
I have search the internet for countless hours for a solution and although I have discovered some threads where people have the same problem, no solution was provided.
    Please help me,
    Thanks

It could be there's not enough signal for the push notifications to come through. I hardly get them on the 3G network due to having 3 bars or 4 bars. Also doesn't work good indoors. When I have 5 bars, I'll be able to receive them.
It could be a network issue to speak with the carrier or "Mark the Spot" app as no coverage/no data if you have AT&T. It could also be Apple's Push Notification Service having problems while they update their service to have Push and Local separated.

  • Push Notification only works for some Apps?

I just upgraded to a new iPhone 3GS from the official german carrier (t-mobile). The device is not jailbroken or unlocked.
With some applications push notification works (iFun, Trivial Pursuit, Ping, Facebook, IM+), with some not (N-TV news, Focus news, ebay). I already tried deinstallation with data removal of the apps and reinstallation.
Is there some way to reset the push notification feature, or reset the device token?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, they have - both are news applications with push capability.

  • HT201299 Is it possible to set push notifications to work only in wifi, rather than disabling them altogether?

I would like to use push notifications, but in a way that limits data usage if possible. Does anyone know if it's possible to set them to push when you're in wifi but then not to come when it would require data? Right now it looks like I would have to manually disable push notifications when I'm not in wifi and then turn them back on when I'm back in wifi. Anyone know a way to make them phone do that automatically?
    Thanks for any help!

The amount of data used with a push notification is miniscule.

  • Push notifications only work for 3G?

I have been having trouble getting push notifications from apps like AP news and beejive when I am connected to wifi. If I am in an area where I have a 3G signal I get them fine. Are there special settings I need to use for my wireless router (map ports, etc.) to allow the push notifications to work over wifi? Any help would be appreciated.

Been a while but I solved the issue by changing the DNS server in the iPhone's wifi settings to a comcast owned DNS server. Been working great.

  • Sending Push Notifications with Adobe DPS

    Question.
I'm testing out all the Adobe DPS and Apple options. And one of the things I would like to test is Push Notifications.
I followed the iPad publishing guide to be able to get all the certificates so that's ok. Then I was looking for a way to send
push notifications. Because Adobe DPS doesn't really have a UI environment (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong ;-) to send push
notifications I have to do it 'by hand'. When I tested my app on my iPad I got the "app name wants to send you push notifications",
so i'm sure my certificates are working. Now I just need to send a push message.
So I followed this great tutorial:
    http://www.raywenderlich.com/3443/apple-push-notification-services-tutorial-part-12
I was able to do everything and was able to send a push notification ... but I never received it. And the reason for this is because
I don't have the app device token, which is a 64 character serial number which acts as your app address. So I don't have any way of sending the notification
to my particular app. (which is a test sideload multifolio app).
Because the Adobe DPS is cloud based you don't get any code (which I love). But I think that is currently stopping me
from finding out my device token.
    What I'm asking:
    - Does this mean I can't send any push notifications to Adobe DPS created apps?
    - If this is supported somehow, I suppose (again, correct me) I need the app device token for the created app. Where do I get this?
    Thanks !

At this time, it's not possible to manually push notifications. When you enable push, only publishing a new folio displays the red badge. At some point, when third-party push is supported, manual pushes will be possible.

  • Iphone 4 push notifications not working for any app

hi, Actually I own an iPhone 4 os 4.2.1(8c148). The thing is that push notification for all the apps that support this feature is not working, I've been an iphone user for long time now, so I konw all the stuff about turning on the push notifications etc. the problem is that my phone give me the pushes like 1 hr or 2 late, or some times never , i just have to open the apps to see my new messages and stuff. Since i live in colombia I have brought the iphone to the store and they take it for like a week and then they give me the phone back saying that is ok , but it isn't. I' have reinstalled the software, I've done anything you can think of, like turning on an of push notification, put it in plane mode, restore as new, backups, and I don't know what else to do, and the thing is that in colombia they don't exchange your phone that easy as it is in the US. So please any advise? ANd I'm sorry about my English. Thank you!

Unfortunately you have already done everything we can possibly instruct you to do.. at this point the only option is getting them to exchange it its under warranty its not working you have to get a exchange

  • IOS 8 push notifications don't work

    Hi everyone,
I'm using an iPhone 5s and updated to iOS 8 last Sunday. Since I installed it, I experience a total loss of push notifications from third party apps (e.g. WhatsApp, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, GMX Mail, wetter.com, Tagesschau and so on). I'm using the phone on Vodafone's German network.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem without a complete reset. I've found some possible solutions by they only apply to iOS 7.
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Simon

More than likely a problem with the FB app not fully compatible with the new update.   I would let the app developer know of your problem and see if they can resolve it.

  • IOS7 - Message "Connect to iTunes to use Push Notifications"

Since upgrading to the iOS7 on my iPhone, I keep getting the message "Connect to iTunes to use Push Notifications" in certain applications, and I cannot cancel out of this message as it continually pops up. The only way I can exit the app is by shutting down the phone and restarting it.
I am also experiencing difficulties connnecting to iMesssage. In Settings, iMessage:  there is a message that says "Waiting for activation" and when I "Use my Apple ID to sign in" I get the message "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again" but my network connection is fine because I can access Safari.
PLEASE HELP. This is extrememly frustrating.
