Put my iMovie (most recent version) onto DVD and it only saved half of the iMovie to the disc, is it possible to get the whole movie on 1 disc?

Hi,
I have made my imovie and burnt to DVD but the disc is onl 4.7 gb whereas the imovie is just over 9gb.
Is there a way of burning the whole movie to the 4.7gb disc?
if not do you know how to split the imovie and burn it in chapters?
I should point out that, half of the movie successfully burnt to disc but stopped half way through, thus there is no issue with me or my computer being able to physically burn a disc, my issue is how to get the entire movie on a (or several) discs.
I will happily split the movie if that is necessary.

What's the playing time of your movie?  iDVD is only concerned with playing time.  It can burn up to 120 minutes of media, including menu playing time, to a single layered DVD disk with Professional Quality encoding.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process. 
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
