    I want to call the Python script from LabVIEW.
    I tried with using at the command line but i am unable to run that script file..
    i have gone through LabPython but i am unable to call the scripts from there also..
    If someone has an example of a VI which invokes a python script, it will be very helpful...
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Can you descriobe your restriction(s) concerning "invoke the script at the command prompt"?  There may be ways around that.

  • How to call Python Scripts throght Labview

    Hi all,
    I am new to this community. Need some inputs  for following Questions
    Questions:
    1)  How can I call python script from LabView?
     (Basically this python script calls some other DLL and print some message, to run the script using Python net in my application .To run my script in python net using following commands: import python script name )
    2)  In how many ways we can call Python scripts from labview?
    I have tried with this option "System Exec.vi "in labview , able to calling pythonnet but unable to send commands and arguments to run python script(i.e  import python script name ).
     If anyone have samples".VI " please send to me. If you people want any information and clarification  from my side please let me know. Thanks in advance.

    One way is to create a client server app and to send arguments to python (and back) over TCP/IP. This work very well.
    There is an example on the old OpenG Website about this. Look it up.

  • Can i use Python Matplotlib with labview?

    I have a python code that i want to develop a User Interface for, i found Labview, but can i still use all the add-ons and modules when i run the script in labview? basically, i just want to develop a GUI for my code and I want to use all the modules and add-ons that I had in my code. Addons and modules such as pylab, matplotlib, numpy, scipy, and so on. Thanks!

    The only integration LabVIEW has with Python is that it can call scripts and use the output from those scripts.  Here is an example of how to do that.

    I would use a Python GUI Framework to control your Python application.  Here is a link to the Python Wiki on GUI Frameworks.

    I am trying to run a program using tcl script via labview.
    Currently I am using wish80 tcl to run it. And it works fine.
    I tried using example I found on NI website called Run Tcl Script.vi
    I will attach the vi and the tcl file. Hope someone will have a idea what I am doing wrong.

  • Running python script with system arguments from applescript

    Hi,
    I am trying to run a python code from within applescript. A string should be passed as an argument to the python script, i.e. from the terminal, I would do the following
    cd /Users/thatsme/Library/Scripts/myfolder
    python my_python_file.py abcdefg
    There are two ways I figure I could do this in applescript. "abcdefg" are contained in the variable strNote
    a) directly:
    do shell script "cd /Users/thatsme/Library/Scripts/myfolder; python my_python_file.py " & strNote
    b) calling Terminal
    tell application "Terminal"
      activate
              do script "cd /Users/claushaslauer/Library/Scripts/OO_latex; python my_python_file.py " & strNote
    end tell
    I would prefer option a) as I don't really want to have Terminal windows popping up. The strange thing is, that I see in the applescript results window the result of the print statements in the python script, but no output is generated (the python script contains a few os.system() commands.
    Option b) does what it is supposed to be doing, however, applescript does not wait until the script is finished running.
    Why does option a) nor work, and what do I need to change to make it work?

    Thank you guys for your help, this is really weird.
    Here is my full applescript
    set strNoteQ to "1+1=2"
    (* for whatever reason, this does not work *)
    do shell script "cd /Users/claushaslauer/Library/Scripts/OO_latex; python create_latex_pdf.py " & strNoteQ
    Below is my python skript.
    When I call it as
         python create_latex_pdf.py 1+1=2
    it creates a wonderful pdf.
    With the applescript above, it prints the print statements, it also generates the latex file temp.tex -- correctly, so I assume the string in this example is ok.
    However, it does not execute the latex related commands (the three os.system calls)
    Is it not a good idea / not possible to execute os.system in a python script that is called from applescript? <sorry if I had brought all the attention to the string issue>
    here is the python script:
    #!/usr/bin/env python
    # -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
    import sys
    import os
    import datetime
    import time
    def main():
        str_latex_note = sys.argv[1]
        print "%s" %  str_latex_note
        preamble = """\documentclass{article}
    \usepackage{amsmath,amssymb}
    \pagestyle{empty}
    \\begin{document}
    {\huge
    %s
    \end{document}"""% (str_latex_note)
        ## write latex file
        cur_path = r'/Users/mypath/Library/Scripts/OO_latex'
        cur_file = "temp.tex"
        fobj = open(os.path.join(cur_path, cur_file), 'w')
        fobj.writelines(preamble)
        fobj.close()
        ## process latex file
        print cur_path
        os.chdir(cur_path)
        cmd = 'latex temp.tex'
        print cmd
        print "running latex"
        os.system(cmd)
        cmd2 = 'dvips -E -f -X 1200 -Y 1200 temp.dvi > temp.ps'
        print "running dvips"
        os.system(cmd2)
        cmd3 = 'epstopdf temp.ps'
        print "running epstopdf"
        os.system(cmd3)
        print "done!"
    if __name__ == '__main__':
        main()

  • Halt script with labview

    let's say I execute a script using the "diadem run script.vi" due to user request.  Later, the user wants to cancel because it was taking longer than expected.
    How do i halt the script using labview tools?
    jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Jim,
    This is possible, but not in the way I believe you are hoping.  I know of no way to halt a VBScript running in DIAdem from the "outside".  If you were staring at DIAdem you could hit the <ESC> key, but any subsequent request from LabVIEW will go onto DIAdem's "Script Stack" and will not be executed until the first VBScript is done naturally.
    Of course you have to run all your LabVIEW calls to DAdem asynchronously, or nothing helps.
    So what you can do is set up each VBScript that you think you might want to abort to periodically poll a DIAdem global variable, say "B9", and terminate from inside the VBScript if B9=TRUE.  The command interface from LabVIEW to DIAdem (ToCommand) goes onto the DIAdem Script Stack, but the variable interface from LabVIEW to DIAdem (ToDataSheet) does not.  So you can "poke" variable B9 from LabVIEW while the first VBScript is running and affect it's behavior, but only if and when that VBScript uses that (B9) variable you poked.
    Of course none of this helps if your VBScript is busy waiting for a single VBScript command to execute, and it only helps if your VBScript is running multiple activities, between which it can poll the (B9) variable.
    Hope that helps,

  • Java script with labview

    hi
     i want to exicute  a small java script  code in to labview, so please help me for this

    You can do this through .NET interface, it is very complicated.
    Google : .NET DLR javascript
    You can call .NET methods from labview and there is an existing DLR implementation of javascript. The least to vapour is IronJS.
    Download the libraries, force labview use the .NET 4.0 or higher and try to use it.
    Since you mentioned "small javascript", much less painfull would be to rewrite it in labview. If you are trying to mimic some javascript code online you didnt develop, you can use tools to breakpoint and probe it by tools in browsers. Firefox has firebug. I used it when I was converting a very difficult mathematic conversion between C and javascript.

  • Interacting with labview with my own developed scritpting language.

    Hi all,
    I am Divya.
    My aim :
    I need to develop a programing language to interact with Labview such that the script should call labview front panel, execute the given task and front panel shold give back the result to the script.
    I want to achieve this by using my own developed programing language (Valid reasons are there why not to use already exixting scripts which I dont want to discuss here as it is not relevant).
    My idea :
    As developing a new scripting language is a big task I am planning to start with Python scripting. I am trying to interact with labview using python script for now.
    My problem :
    As I am fresher to this field I dont know the possible ways to interact with Labview using python scripting. (Except using Labpython). If there is any way to achieve this please guide me on this.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Dennis_Knutson
    I am doing the same as the original question I have asked. As I have mentioned in my question I am starting off with a small addition (or any basic mathematical operation) function using Python script.
    And yes the basic idea is to call Labview from script not the vice versa. To achieve this I need to pass the parameters from the python script to Labview and output from Labview to Python. For this purpose I am developing a small VI which vil take Python commands and carry on furthur operations.
    I can explain with an example.
    I have a command in python as sum=x+y. I want to take this command and send 'x' to a numeric control, 'y' to another numeric control and 'sum' to a numeric indicator and at the same time back to script. In between numeric controls 'x' and 'y' I need to carry out '+' operation. Say if the command is sum=x-y I need to carry out '-' operation(Where identifying '+' or '-' or any other operation is the job of labview).
    I have developed a VI which can take the command from python and give it to Labview as a string. I need to know how to bifurcate that string to numeric controls, operands etc.

  • Way to communicate with labview with my own scripting language

    Hi guys
     My objective is to design my own scripting language that can communicate(sending inputs and receiving outputs) with labView for my project. I do have little knowledge about labView . But I dont have any idea how to design scripting language or where to start learning about it since i dont have any computer science background. Can some one guide me about this??
    Thanks in advance

    Why do you want to design your own scripting language?  That wheel has already been invented.  There's a free Python toolkit and a Lua toolkit that you can buy to do scripting in LabVIEW.

  • How can I replace the Python cgi script with CF

    I am testing the sample app and want to just use CF to track
    peer ids.
    Can you give me the api to the web service calls.
    I can then create the CFC to handle this.
    In order to use the sample application that you built, you
    need to setup your web server and host the provided Python script
    (reg.cgi) for exchanging peer IDs. Please note that setting up the
    web service is not needed for the hosted VideoPhone sample. In
    VideoPhoneLabs.mxml, please set WebServiceUrl accordingly. You may
    also use Google Apps to host this web service (minimal
    modifications required).
    The Python script should be placed in the cgi-bin location
    according to your web server installation. The database is an
    SQLite3 database. In reg.cgi, please edit the location of the
    database in variable dbFile.
    You also need to create a database scheme using the
    followings:
    CREATE TABLE registrations (
    m_username VARCHAR COLLATE NOCASE,
    m_identity VARCHAR,
    m_updatetime DATETIME,
    PRIMARY KEY (m_username)
    CREATE INDEX registrations_updatetime ON registrations
    (m_updatetime ASC);

    the sample web service we provided has the following API:
    to record peerID "1234" for username "foo", do
    http://your.domain/cgi-bin/reg.cgi?username=foo&identity=1234
    you should get back an XML document with result.update=true
    or false depending on whether the database was updated.
    to look up the peerID for username "foo", do
    http://your.domain/cgi-bin/reg.cgi?friends=foo
    you should get back an XML document like:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <result>
    <friend>
    <user>foo</user>
    <identity>1234</identity>
    </friend>
    </result>
    there will be no "identity" entry if the user is not found.
    the lookup is case-insensitive but case-preserving, so if you
    looked up "Foo", the user field would be "Foo" but there'd be an
    extra "registered" field with the username as it was registered.

  • Using launchctl with python script

    I have been trying to get launchctl to run a python script for me every 3 minutes. I have read many threads and such to no avail. Following describes files and such.

    File permissions = 755 (fro scraper.py and runscraper.sh)
    NOW about the script, I have the shell script runscraper.sh call the python script. All works from the cmd line, but does not work when launchctl calls it. I put the following in the runscraper script to make sure it was getting called:
    say "hey mike"
    So every time launchctl calls runscraper.sh I hear the "hey mike," so I know that launchctl is calling it, BUT it does not seem to call or launch the python!!!! AGAIN, if I run runscraper.sh from the cmd line I hear "hey mike" and the python script run with no problems.
    I have checked log files and found nothing.
    I have tried many things and nothing has worked, would enjoy someones wisdom

  • Need help with python script for Deluge

    I am using Deluge 1.3.2 with web server, and all works fine, I use this script in the Deluge settings to execute upon torrent completion:
    #!/bin/bash
    torrentid=$1
    torrentname=$2
    torrentpath=$3
    torrenttimedelta=`/usr/bin/python2 /home/bobby/scripts/deluge/torrentTimeDelta.py $1`
    subject="Started download new torrent!"
    message="$torrentname to $torrentpath"
    echo -e `date`"::Finished downloading torrent:$2 in: $3" with id:$torrentid >> ~/logs/scripts.log
    echo -e `sendEmail -t [email protected] -f [email protected] -u "deluge server notification: torrent $torrentname is complete!" -m "$torrentname has completed downloading at: $torrentpath and took $torrenttimedelta to complete :)" -xu [email protected] -xp password -v -o tls=yes -s email.com` >> ~/logs/scripts.log
    echo ---------------------------------------- >> ~/logs/scripts.log
    This is to email me when a torrent is done and works. What I wanted to add to this email was the time taken to complete the torrent. I have gotten help from Deluge forum in this thread: http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop … =9&t=36989  However I think it's something with Python within Arch that is the obstacle, and so that helpful person can't do much more IMO. The python script I'm using is:
    #!/usr/bin/python2
    from deluge.ui.client import client
    from twisted.internet import reactor
    d = client.connect()
    def on_connect_success(result):
    print "Connection was successful!"
    def on_get_torrent_value(value):
    for torrent in value:
    print "%s: %s" % (torrent, value[torrent]["name"])
    client.disconnect()
    reactor.stop()
    client.core.get_torrents_status({}, ["name"]).addCallback(on_get_torrent_value)
    d.addCallback(on_connect_success)
    def on_connect_fail(result):
    print "Connection failed!"
    print "result:", result
    d.addErrback(on_connect_fail)
    reactor.run()
    Now if I call this from shell directly, it works. However, including it with my email script at the top, Deluge itself freezes and no email is sent. I run ps aux | grep deluge and I can see that the script has run, but apparently died and all is just hanging. I kill the script process and Deluge resumes just fine, the email is sent. Kinda confused how to remedy this, appreciate any help Thanks
    P.S. When I get the email, the part that says ""$torrentname has completed downloading at: $torrentpath and took $torrenttimedelta to complete "" shows nothing where $torrenttimedelta should be, it just says "and took to complete"

    [edit]  Sorry, I don't use deluge and I messed up my test script. If the script is executable try `/home/bobby/scripts/deluge/torrentTimeDelta.py $1`
    Are there any other errors? or try running bash with debug output to see if it will tell you something else
    The problem you are having is bash doesn't recognize variables inside the tick marks.
    Hope that helps

  • Trouble using Run Shell Script with python in Automator

    Hi. I have a python script I want to run in Automator (update_puzzles.py). All it does is check, rearrange and update files and there is not supposed to be any input. I can get the script to run outside of Automator, in Terminal, by navigating to the right directory and typing "python update_puzzles.py"
    I must not be setting up Run Shell Script correctly. I have it set to /bin/bash and Pass Input to stdin. The command line simply reads python /pathname/update_puzzles.py (where pathname is the path to the .py file, which I got by dragging the file onto the Run Shell Script command window). There are no actions before this in my workflow and the action after is View Results.
    The log says Run Shell Script failed, and the error is "Traceback (most recent call last):"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much.

    If the script is expecting to do stuff with files in the same directory as the executable, you will probably need to add a statement to change to the appropriate working directory. The shell used in the Automator *Run Shell Script* action is a generic one that does not share any of the environment variables that the Terminal uses.

  • MacPro with10.7.3. running a Python script in terminal I see a : "There is no more application memory available on your startup disk". Python uses 10G of 16G RAM and  VM =238G with 1TB free. Log: macx-swapon FAILED - 12. It only happens with larger inputs

    On my MacPro with10.7.3. while running a Python script in terminal, after a while, in several hours actually,  I see a system message for the Terminal app: "There is no more application memory available on your startup disk". Both RAM and VM appear to be fine at this point, i.e. Python uses only 10G of 16G RAM and  VM =238G with ~1TB free. Log reads: " macx-swapon FAILED - 12" multiple times. Furthermore, other terminal windows can be opened and commands run there. It only happens with larger inputs (text files), but with inputs that are about half the size everything runs smoothly.  So the issue must be the memory indeed, but where to look for the problem/fix?

    http://liulab.dfci.harvard.edu/MACS/README.html
    Have you tried with the --diag flag for diagnostics? Or changing verbose to 3 to show debug messages? Clearly one of three things is happening;
    1. You ARE running out of disk space, but once it errors out the space is reclaimed if the output file is deleted on error. When it fails, does your output have the content generated up to the point of termination?
    2. The application (Terminal) is allocated memory that you are exceeding
    3. The task within Terminal is allocated memory that you are exceeding
    I don't know anything about what this does but is there a way to maybe run a smaller test run of it? Something that takes 10 minutes? Just to see if it works.
