QAAWS and Live Office together to fetch data on a dashboard

Hello
1.)Can you create multiple queries  in the QAAWS and use it on a single dashboard, and how do you fire multiple queries
2) can all the queries be fired at the same time for the dasbboard to be functional or does it fire one query at a time.
3.) Can you create a combination of QAAWS and Live Office queries and create your dashboard.
4.) If I have 5 selection or combo boxes, Is it mandatory to create a row for each selection variation.  Or do you have to select the filtered comoboxes as columns in the spreadsheet.
6) In excel how do you arrange data, if 3 items are regular filter components, while the remaining two items are comboboxes with filtered row values
7) Is it possible to create 4 queries based on 4 different universes and join the result set in the dashboad.
5.) Do you have any example of the same.
Thanks

Hi Abhijit Patil
A lot of questions
1) Yes you can. You can fire them on the same cell changing or on time intervals
2) The queries can be fired as the same time, the query response time will be effected by the query complexity, the capacity of the web server, the capacity of your web intelligence processing
3) Yes - I have a problem with 3.0 when displaying through BI Widgets, it asks me to log in even though I am already logged on to widgets, but other than that they are fine
4) Not sure
6) It is down to you how you do it. You should look at Everything Xcelsius or the Xcelsius portal for best practices
7) Yes, you will bring all the data back and then combine them how you like. Alternatively you can merge them in a Web I document and bring them already merged into the dashboard, (which might save you on soem data volume.
8) I would not be in a position to share the samples as they contain sensitive data

  • QaaWS vs Live Office as datasource for Xcelsius

    Hi,
We can create dashboard with BW or Oracle data using Live Office or QaaWS.
Best practice document called for QaaWS.
    Does anyone know why?
I know we can do both, but just don't know what's the reason for using QaaWS.
    Thank you

    Hi Patrick,
The real difference you have understand between the QaaWS and Live Office is the method of refreshing data.
Both the data sources use Web services as their source.
Do you know why the differciation is ?
QaaWS fetches the data when request is raised from Xcelsius then dumps the data to Excel.
Where as Lo scenario is different, first we request the data from Xcelsius it passes that to Excel then it refreshes the data from Excel level then we get updated data.
I think you might have noticed many times that when you refresh the live office manually if new rows are added (ar Database) then it creates the new rows in Excel.
Another point you create your live office objects at Excel level and then you import it to Data manager.
Many people get issues with Live office due to below reasons.
    1) Changing the Webi report path after importing the LO objects. Such reports throw error when they are refreshed.
    2) Sometimes user refreshes the LO objects at Excel level and they directly run the dashboard. This situation also throws error, bcoz the updates made at Excel level are not given to the connection available at Datamanger level (Xcelsius).
We have reimport all the connections again.
    3) Never refresh any LO objects manually from Excel when propmts are binded to cells, if they do they loose the prompt bindings.
many more are there but the above are the most important.
Live office has more options than QaaWS. But for simple dashboards the QaaWS is widely.

  • Xcelsius and Live Office

    Hi,
please can you help me about this?
How can I pass the last refreshed instance of a WebI report to a live office connection?
I need to schedule a WebI report, let's say everynight, and to use the last instance as a data source for a dashboard (via Live Office)
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Franzi,
This is actually the default behaviour I think. Have you read the manual?
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31SP3/en/xi31_sp3_lo_user_en.pdf
It explains it all quite well.
I'd highly recommend looking into BI Services as they're faster and easier to work with than Live Office. There's a comparison here: http://blog.davidg.com.au/2011/04/live-office-vs-qaaws-vs-bi-services.html
    Hope that helps.

  • Xcelsius and Live Office Scheduling - Performance

    Hi,
I have couple of webi reports and i am using live office to insert data in to excel file and thus to xcelsius. All my webi reports are scheduled to run at midnight everyday.
On my xcelsius file the live office connections are set to refresh on load to get the updated information. My xcelsius file is taking 10 seconds to open with these live office connections set to refresh on load. If i dont have any of these connections set to refresh on load then it only takes 3 seconds to load. I want to achieve this performance of 3 secs.
Is it possible to schedule my xcelsius file (that is i want to load the updated webi report data onto the xcelsius file and generate a swf file before start of business. Is it possible to schedule this?
    Any tips to improve performance?
    Regards
    Jith

    Hi Hunain,
After you have inserted the WEBI report in the excel file, go to live office object properties choose the object in left pane and go to refresh tab in the right and click edit, check the option which you have set is lates instance and the user in drop down is what you want.
In xcelsius file after you have imported the data(The above excel file) go to data - connections. I hope you have added your live office connection, if not say add live office connection and you shall see your live office connection. Check wether you hve set your session url. In usage tab, you shall choose Refresh on load.
This is process to view latest instance and performance vice it will not take more than 1 to 2 seconds per connection. If your dashboard is still slow, then i would say it is due to some thing else.
Viewing latest instance dosent run your WEBI report and hence shall not take longer. Refresh on load option might take longer time if your webi report is large and takes time to run.
In your xcelsius file, How many objects are you using? What is the size of your xlf file? Do have any Complex logic in your xcel file?

    Jithendra

  • Report on webi and Live office

    Hi SAP Gurus ,
Can you send the flow of sample report on webi connect to Bw and wiil populate the data in Live Office. Documents
    Regards
    Deepu

I just talked to a SAP representative and he informed me that you cannot load a Excel spreadsheet using Live Office from the BO Enterprise while in Xcelsius.  Basically that button in Xcellsius should have been grayed out.  It is mentioned in the Xcelisus 2008 Release Notes.

  • Live Office & WebServices

    Hello,
I have some questions related to LO &WS:
1.)    Can WebServices be configured to use multiple URLu2019s? If so, how?
    a.       i.e. Web Services URL = http://bodev.company.com/dswsbobje/services/session AND http://bobj-dev.company.com/dswsbobje/services/session
2.)    I see in the Options section of the Live Office plug-in that it can use Single Sign-on via Windows Active Directoryu2026but can it be integrated into a Single Sign-on environment that uses Trusted Authentication. If so, how would you configure Live Office to use the Trusted Authentication?
    Thanks

web services, qaaws, live office, voyager, and several other Business Objects applications are only available in java. I believe there is an SAP note about this on SMP(containing a list of applications requiring java) but don't have access to it right now.
all the ones you justed asked about are on the list
the directory in java for qaaws and live office is http://servername:port/dswsbobje/

  • Excelsisu Best Data Connectivity Approach: BI Services & Live Office?

    Hi guys,
I the next months we have planned to develop several Excelsius dashboards based on existing web intelligence queries. After carefully reading all documentation we have concluded that for this purpose the most suitable approaches for data connectivity are:
    - Use BI Services (Qaaws method)
    - Use Live Office
Leaving apart license considerations (we have Live Office licenses) we are internally discussing about which should be the choosen method to develop all dashboards.
Both seems to fullfill basic requirements: security restrictions, access to special data (totals, orders by)
Question is: what is your opinion about? Considering the future release of SP4 do you know which method best fit future migrations?

    Hi,
You have three options currently. QaaWS, BI Services and Live Office.
In BI4.0 QaaWS is effectively replaced by the query pane in Xcelsius, which lets you connect an Xcelsius model directly to a universe.
In BI4.0, you can also create BI Services from the web client, you no longer need to use the Webi Rich Client.
Read this for an overview and comparison of the three. http://blog.davidg.com.au/2011/04/live-office-vs-qaaws-vs-bi-services.html
Having just migrated a dashboard with 44 connections from Live Office to BI Services, I can tell you that BI Services are much faster, and easier to work with.
    Hope that helps.

  • Does Xcelsius support Cross Tab report via Live Office?

    -Operating System: Windows XP
-OS Patch level: Service Pack 3
    -Office Version: 2007
    -Flash Player version: 10
-Xcelsius Version and Patch Level: Enterprise 2008 with SP2 (version: 5.2.0.0)
-Xcelsius Build number (Help>About Xcelsius): 12,2,0,608
-Business Objects Enterprise version/patch level (if applicable): Edge 3.1
    -Issue Description:
I have a dashboard which collects data via Live Office from a series of Webi documents and Crystal Reports.  I have found that if I create a report that has for instance sales regions down the left and months across the top using a cross tab in either Crystal Reports or as a Webi the data will only refresh within the current month, so for instance if I create the report in October the sales figure for October will update happily until the last day of the month but on the first of November no sales figures will show in the new month and I have to manually refresh the report in Xcelsius and issue a new Dashboard to my users.  This makes me wonder whether Cross Tab reports are actually supported via Live Office.  If I use formulas in Crystal Reports and manually build a report that looks like this but uses formulas it works fine, but is obviously a much slower process than simply building a Webi cross tab.
Your views and help would be very much appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Rob
    -Steps to Duplicate:
    As Above

    Hi Rob,
You can bind cross tab reports from your WebI reports into Xcelsius using an integration tool called[ Xcelsius Web Intelligence Intregration Suite|http://www.antivia.com/products-xcelsius.stm].
This will give you the full functionality of Web Intelligence inside an Xcelsius dashboard- drill-down, cross tabs, even an ad hoc query panel, all bound into the Xcelsius interface.
This would remove the need to use QaaWs or Live Office, so you can probably realize some performance gains and handle larger data volumes.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

  • Adding Live Office content to existing dashboard

We have an existing Xcelsius 2008 dashboard that uses QaaWs connections against SAP BW queries to populate around 20 separate graphs.
We have noticed that some of these queries cannot return the desired data, so have decided to try and use Live Office to connect to Webi reports that do contain the correct data.
The problem is, despite being able to create a new dashboard using Live Office, the option to add Live Office content to the existing dashboard's spreadsheet seems to be greyed out (Live Office compatibility is enabled).
In fact the only way I can see of getting the data from a Webi report with prompts into Xcelsius is to create the spreadsheet in Excel then import it into Xcelsius. But of course if I do this then I will lose all the existing dashboard data.
    Anyone have any cunning ideas?
    Thanks,
    A

You can export the Excel spreadsheet that is in the existing XLF (Data > Export). Add the Live Office connections in Excel and then reimport the spreadsheet. Add the Live Office connections in a new sheet so as to not impact the current cell references.
Once this is done you need to Add Existing Live Office connections from the Data Manager.

  • Live Office Document not opening in Excel

I have installed Live Office and I can connect to my CMS and my reports are visible. When I try and import one it goes through several dialogs of "Importing Report" and "Updating Data" but then it just returns to the Select Report screen and never actually OPENS the report. It feels to me like a display/control permission thing... but I have completely disabled my Symantec Firewall and I still have the same problem Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    LiveOffice -> Options
    check the Enterprise Tab
    use specified Login Criteria
    check the web service URL

  • Dashboards with Webi Live office Objects issues

    Hi All,
I have created a dashboard (Dashboards 4.1 SP4) connecting to webi crosstab tables which in turn sources data from Bex queries (version of SAP BW 7.1 SP5) . Initially I published the crosstab data as BI web Services and consumed these as query as web service within the Dashboards. But datasets have variable columns and changes on data refresh everyday. Therefore, I decided to use Live office connections to automate the dashboard.
As number of posts suggested, firstly, I created Live office connections for the webi queries to pull the data into excel model spreadsheet. I have created 26 live office connections in total and everything works fine until this step. Re-opening the excel document refreshes the live office connections. When I import the same excel spreadsheet into the dashboard, the import operation is running forever and then Dashboards stops responding. I would have to close the Dashboard using task manager.
To test, I tried creating the live office objects within the dashboard spreadsheet and it creates the connections fine. I do not create the live office connections through Data -->Connections--> Live office connections. I go ahead and publish the dashboard onto the portal and it gets published successfully. If I re-open the dashboard, the connections I created would have disappeared.
Also, when I create the live office connections on the dashboards Data -->Connections tab and try to publish the dashboard, it publishes forever. The generating swf window was running until I came the next morning which means that it does not publish to the BO portal. I am not sure what else I could try to get this working.
I have created OLAP connections to the Bex cubes and created webi reports using these connections. I am not sure if OLAP connections would be a problem. To test it, I created relational Universe using UDT tool and created a webi report on top of it to test and tried importing the excel with live office connection to dashboards, but it gets stuck forever.
Could anyone advise me on any of the missing steps or something else to try to get this working?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Rohini.

    Hi Preetesh,
The excel takes less than a minute to refresh all the datasets when refreshed from outside dashboards. I also do not think this is a performance issue.
Today I tried importing the excel with live office connections on a different desktop with Dashboards 4.1 SP5 and it got imported instantly. The machine I was trying had Dashboards 4.0 SP6 base version and was updated with 4.1 SP4. I suspected the install might be corrupted and re-installed Dashboards 4.1 SP4 after uninstalling all the versions. The excel got imported instantly and I could see all the Live office connections and got refreshed on document open as well. I saved it to the BO platform without setting up Live Office connections through Data Manager and it got published successfully.
I closed the Dashboard and re-opened it later and setup the Live Office connections and tried publishing on the BO Portal, its running forever with Generating Swf window. Not sure what is going wrong. In the task manager, I do see two excel processes running which I think is one of dashboard and one of Live office.
    Thanks,
    Rohini.

could i use the live office connecter outside my LAN?
and if yes,, wat configuration sould be done to be able to connect to my reports over the WWW from the live office

In a nutshell, you can't unless your friend has a VPN server running at his house, or you can use a point to point tunnel like Pertino.
    Otherwise, use Teamviewer.
