Qs on Handling Exception on BPEL Process

Hi,
Would like to know what is the best optimized way to handle exception that are caused by process because of type mismatch or variable not initialized or anything?
So how we can do it?
Thanks,

Use the new error hospital feature in rel 10.1.3.3.

  • Handling exceptions at Sub-Process Level

    Can we handle exceptions at Sub-Process level itself? Or do we need to transfer the exceptions to the main process and then only the admin user can handle them?

    The same thing applies to subprocesses. A subprocess is just a process that has been invoked by another process and the same exception handling rules apply to it.
    You can catch exceptions in any process using:
    <li> logic at the activity level using a try/catch block
    <li> an activity using an Exception transition
    <li> a Group in the process using an Exception transition
    <li> the process using an Exception Handler
    At a minimum, catch the "Others" exception using the Exception Handler. This ensures uncaught exceptions are not sent to the End activity (the default) and the instances are not lost. This simple best practice will save you days of debugging and several calls to customer support to resolve.

  • Toplink Exception in BPEL process

    Hi All,
    We get the attached error while running a BPEL process which uses a DBAdapter (which uses Toplink under the covers). Can you provide any pointers on why this exception might be happening.

  • Creating a Web Service to handle flow between BPEL process and XML Gateway

    I am new to Web Services. I have never created one, yet I have the task of designing the following for a project.
    Any help as to what steps I need to take would be very very helpful. There is a lot of information on XML, SOA and WSDL out there that it can get very confusing, and sometimes you just need someone to point the way
    What I need to do is create a Custom Send and a Custom Receive Program (both web services) handle the message flow between an Enterprise BPEL processes and a Deployed XML Gateway.
    BPEL compresses this XML business object document (for faster transmission), and sends remotely to this Custom Receive web service, which in turn calls a decompress java program and then send the document to the XML gateway inbound web service.
    The Custom Send web service does just the opposite. It needs to take the business object document from XML gateway, call the compress java program and then send to the Enterprise BPEL.
    In a nutshell...these Custom Send/Receive Web services handle the message flow between the Enterprise BPEL process and the Deployed XML Gateway.
    What I need help on...
    -Creating this in JDeveloper- where do I get started?
    -How does a web service receive a compressed file sent to me via BPEL? Does it just sit there waiting for it?
    -Is this a synchronous or asynchronous design?
    -Will this be 2 web services (Send and Receive) or do I make 1 with 2 functionalities
    -How do I call the java compress/decompress program within the web service? (this java function is already created and ready to be called)
    -Is this decompressed business object file an XML schema and an XML message? Or just a message?
    -I need to send this to the XML Gateway Web Service to load. How does that work?
    -I have a Generic XML Gateway WSDL file...I assume I need to take all the info I get and map it to this template? Is this true? How do I do that?
    Like I said, any help would be appreciated. Links answers to my many questions would be fabulous.
    -Jason

    If you are talking about simple XML transformation of the SOAP payload between the client calling your service and the final destination of the message you are routing, the ESB approach may be a better fit.
    If you have more complex transformation in mind, with major processing and rework of the message in the intermediary, you may be better of with using the POJO approach. Write your service and embed a callout to the other service in your implementation. If the two services share the same Java Model, you may even be able to re-use the same Java Bean.
    To get SOAP Element instead of Java bean, you just need to use the noDataBinding option with either genProxy and topDownAssemble (or assemble). See the WS-Guide [1] for details. Chapter 18 will give you all the details about the different WSA command line parameters.
    Hope this helps,

  • Any API to get handle to Outbound BPEL process endpoint activation?

    Hi,
    we are developing both inbound and outbound BPEL processes using a custom JCA 1.5 based adapter. For the inbound BPEL process deployment/undeployment, we have the ResourceAdapter's endpointActivate() endpointDeactivate() methods called in and so we can post process, like clean up endpoints when these methods get called. Is there somethign simillar that we can use as an API to get a handle to the outbound process endpoints deactivate/activate, so that we can clean up these too, or does the oracle adapter framework internally clean these up?
    Also even though we undeploy all processes before stopping the adapter (from the bpel console), after that if we redeploy the adapter rar, from then on any new BPEL process deployment (through jdeveloper) always throws a "500 Internal Server Error". Only after restarting the SOA, then on any new deployments go through fine. This is a serious limitation for us.. Any idea why this is happening and how to resolve this?
    Thanks
    Pramodh

    Hi Pramodh,
    That's a nice requirement.
    The inbound (ActivationSpec) properties can only be set dynamically (typically via the BPEL console) if their values are bound via property values defined in bpel.xml for the particular JCA Activation Agent in question. This is fundamentally as per the JCA 1.5 design where EndpointActivation (which receives an instance of ActivationSpec) takes place when the BPEL process starts up, i.e. only once. More often than not the BPEL process will have to be bounced (Off/On) for ActivationSpec attribute changes to take effect (thereby allowing the JCA 1.5 inbound message endpoint to be restarted/reinitialized). Some adapters do look dynamically for changes to bpel.xml bound values (subscribed to via the adapter framework) and will react appropriately without the need for bumping the process (e.g. adjusting a timeout or retryCount or other secondary attribute which doesn't change the first order attributes of the endpoint, such as e.g. the database host name etc). An example of an activation property which requires the adapter to restart is the JMS adapter MessageSelector property.
    Having said that, please try using the activation agent properties set in the outbound PL and see if that works!
    Cheers
    A

  • How to handle no of BPEL process Instances

    Hi,
    I am facing issue at my cleint. Here is the scenario
    1) I have Business Event
    2) BPEL is subscribed to event using Oracle Application Adapter
    3) No every time new message comes in queue, causes new BPEL process Instances
    4) So suppose there are 1 million message per day then BPEL Server is dying.
    What is the best way to handle it?

    This is managed via the dspMaxThreads and ReceiverThreads parameters, by default these are set to poor values, dspMaxThreads by default is set to 100 (domain level) whereas by default ReceiverThreads is set to 40. According to the performance guide the total of dspMaxThreads for all domains should be <= ReceiverThreads, so making some adjustment to the dspMaxThreads parameter should help.

  • How to maintain List Of Values (LOV's) for BPEL Processes

    We are integrating two systems.Source and destination systems store data in different formats. For example State is stored as a string in source and its stored as an number in destination system. In BPEL we are trying to transform this information and send it to destination system so that it understands the incoming data.
    A sample of transformation we need to do is as shown below.
    State in Source     Sate in Destination
    Texas               1
    Nebraska          2
    But we have so many fields that we need to transform as we are doing for State.
    What is the best way of handling these domain mappings in BPEL. I want to know is there any efficient way we can handle this in BPEL as we do in J2EE applications(Maintaining them in Domain tables and making them available for all functionalities).
    We are looking to hold all these domain mappings at one place and use in all the processes we design.Can anyone suggest a better way to handle this for BPEL processes.

    Hi,
    I am using the lookup-xml for maintaining list of values.But dont know whats the problem unable to get the output.
    Example: this is just a sample one which i am testing.
    My xml file is placed in c folder with the name "StateList.xml" which contains the following info.
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <Countries>
    <Country><Abbreviation>CO</Abbreviation><FullName>CO</FullName></Country>
    <Country><Abbreviation>CT</Abbreviation><FullName>Connecticut</FullName></Country>
    <Country><Abbreviation>ID</Abbreviation><FullName>Idaho</FullName></Country>
    <Country><Abbreviation>NJ</Abbreviation><FullName>New Jersey</FullName></Country>
    <Country><Abbreviation>AP</Abbreviation><FullName>Andhra Pradesh</FullName></Country>
    </Countries>
    And in BPEL, in the transformation i am taking the input and assigning this lookup value to the output variable as follows :
    <ns1:result>
    <xsl:value-of select="orcl:lookup-xml('file:/c:/StateList.xml','/Countries/Country','Abbreviation','FullName',/ns1:HelloWorldPavanaProcessRequest/ns1:input)"/>
    </ns1:result>
    But unable to get the result.Kindly help me out in this.
    Regards,
    Pavana

  • How does a BPEL process instance know it has been cancel()ed?

    The javadoc for the IInstanceHandle cancel() method says, "When an activity is cancelled, the performer of the activity is notified of the cancellation and is given an opportunity to rollback or cancel any work that has already been done on behalf of the activity."
    How exactly is the performer of the activity notified? Some kind of fault? Can one code a "cancel handler" in the BPEL process, or is the "rollback or cancel" all done behind the scenes?
    Either a full answer or a pointer to the appropriate documentation (which I haven't yet been able to find) would be fine. Thanks.

    The BPEL instance can be canceled via the BPEL API or via console (Abort instance) or due to an error. Then the BPEL Process Manager will detect this and cancel the running instance. The instance will do a transaction rollback, depending if it was a global (XA) or local transactions. This whole mechanism is executed behind the scenes.

  • Null Pointer exception while invoking BPEL process

    Hi all,
    I am getting following exception when I am invoking a BPEL process1 (deployed in 10.1.3.1) from another BPEL Process 2 (deployed in 10.1.3.3)

    </env:Body>
    </env:Envelope>
    BPEL Process 1 is working fine when given manual input (testing through console). But when invoked using BPEL Process 2, it gives the above error. I also tried invoking BPEL Process 1 (and many other webservices deployed in 10.1.3.1) using TCPMON tool and got the same error.
    Am I missing something here in configuration of 10.1.3.1 or any other issue? Please help as it is really urgent.

  • "NoClassDefFoundError" Java exception while invoking BPEL process

    While invoking a BPEL process from my ADF application, I'm getting the following error, it seems some source files are missing, I have made sure the orabpel.jar, and a few other orabpel*.jar are located in the classpath on my PC. Anything else is still missing?

    Upon clicking on the second error, it shows message "Unable to find source file for package com.oracle.bpel.client filename locator.java", what's the problem?

  • Fault Handling in BPEL process

    hi
    We have to develop an application which involves several BPEL processes and proxy service(OSB) and JMS queue etc.
    What is the difference between Fault Management Framework in SOA11g and normal fault handling(using catch and throw activities)?
    which one we should prefer for fault handling in our application n why?
    Plz help thanks in advance.

    Hi-
    In Normal Fault handling process, you will be able to catch the faluts only but in Fault Management Framework if a fault occurs the framework catches the fault and performs a user-specified action defined in a fault policy file associated with the activity. You can also have a human intervention prescribed in it, where you perform recovery actions from Enterprise Manager.
    Pls go throgh the below post for detailed description

    try removing your "localhost" from the windows hosts file and then do it all over again using your ip or hostname.
