QT_WriteObject problem in Safari only, Snow Leopard

Can someone help me display my H.264 movie on a web page?
I have a H.264 encoded file which will not consistently play in Safari under Snow Leopard using QT_WriteObject. It does play in Firefox and XP/ IE 7, and will play in Safari if you give it the .mov file directly. I have 3 computers running Snow Leopard, and one of them, an iMac, will sometimes play the file. I booted the iMac into Leopard and it played the first time. The quicktime plugin shows as 7.6.3 in Snow Leopard.
I have tried various combinations of the parameters for QT_WriteObject. I think the movie is 640 x 480 . I have added a little to the vertical so that the controller will show completely in Firefox.
Here is the html I am currently using. The file is at tnwheeler.com/alaska1.html. There are no errors in the error console.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd" >
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Testing quicktime</title>
<script language="javascript" type="text/JavaScript" src="AC_QuickTime.js"> </script>
</head>
<body>
Trip to Alaska in 1993
This movie is in standard definition.
At this time, this movie will not show in Safari. Please use Firefox.
<script language="javascript">
QTWriteOBJECT('http://tnwheeler.com/alaskafinal.mov' , '640', '500', '',"autoplay","true","bgcolor","#000000") ;
</script>
</body>
</html>

Thank you for your helpful suggestions. I tried them both, in fact they are up there now, but no improvement. PageOT is a nice program. Actually, I started with the straight <embed> statements because they had always worked for me before. But I went to QT_WriteObject before posting because I thought people would say to try it.
I noticed your OS is listed as 10.5? Is this still correct? If so, that may be why it works for you. I booted to an old version of Leopard, and it worked fine. All of my other videos work in Snow Leopard/Safari except for this one. It was created in the same way- exported from FinalCut (latest version) and then taken into DVKitchen for the H.264. Most , if not all, of the others are hidef, whereas this one is standard def.
I think it is either a problem in how it was created (not by me, so I can't do much about that) or Safari under Snow Leopard. But the fact that it will play from the url, but not from the embed statements really has me puzzled.

  • Safari on Snow Leopard doesn't play right with multimedia on WordPress

    I have a problem when I insert a QuickTime movie or Flash graphic into a WordPress post. The problem is that the CSS drop-down menu on the post page fall 'behind' the QuickTime movie instead of in front.
    To combat this I inserted the following embed codes in the html for the movie: <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> and wmode="transparent"
    This would appear to fix the drop-down problem but it creates a new problem for Safari on Snow Leopard for Macs. The QuickTime controls don't work on the movies. You can start/stop the movie by using the spacebar but the transparent layer kills access to the controls when either QuickTime X or QuickTime 7.x is used in Safari. Seems to work fine in Firefox.
    It might be easier to show the problem via examples which follow:
    No transparency code example
    http://www.hawaii247.org/2009/11/06/community-pays-tribute-and-honors-uncle-geor ge-naope/
    transparency code embedded example
    http://www.hawaii247.org/2009/10/29/rallying-in-hilo-for-the-international-day-o f-climate-action/
    Is there a away around the drop-down bug so I don't have to use the transparency embed code? The drop-down bug also occurs in IE8 I believe. If you choose the Sports drop-down you should see what I'm talking about in the first example.

    Yep. Exactly as you describe.
    Since your menu "drop downs" are the source of the original issue have you considered breaking the "long" one into "two" parts?

  • No "Convert to * Chinese Text" service in Safari for Snow Leopard

    The services "convert to simplified chinese text" and "convert to simplified chinese text" don't seem to work in Safari under Snow Leopard. It works if you're in a text box, but not for text on the page itself (it worked under Leopard).
    Is this a problem with my system, or do others have this problem too? Is a fix planned, or is this a "feature"? (sigh)
    This is useful when reading webpages written in traditional (simplified) chinese for those who are better at reading simplified (traditional) characters.
    Test it yourself:
    Highlighting this traditional chinese character should allow you to access the "Convert to Simplified Chinese Text" service: 車
    Highlighting this character should allow you to access the "Convert to Traditional Chinese Text" service: 车
    Thanks

    Is a fix planned,
    Only Apple would know, and they never provide such info. Make sure you tell them you want this feature back via Safari > Report Bugs to Apple and

  • Hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. Can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. How to fix this, please?

    I had hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now it is looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. I can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. I think a big part of the problem is that someon one the internet (the hacker) was mirroring my hard drive. It seems to have locked up my system. I could be wrong about this guess, though. All I do know is that it is now looping on the last 4 iems, and I can't do anything.
    Well, I can get it to turn on, but all it does is continously try to delete the last 4 items. When I try to reload Snow Leopard, it tells me my hard drive is full and that I need to delete items.
    Can anyone help? I am so lost without my Mac. I am back on the PC, and though it works, I'm sure many of you will understand when I say it's just not a Mac.
    Thanks.

    I installed Snow Leopard using my Apple external Superdrive. I followed directions I found on the Apple site. Here is the article info:  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
                     Article HT3910
                     located at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
    Everything was going smoothly until I got to the reinstall part. I had to choose to reinstall on a hard drive or network drive. I've never used a network drive; just the hard drive. It seems that's where the troubles began. I selected the hard drive. It seemed to go well, and then I got the message that I needed to delete some files because I was out of space. I chose to get rid of my music files, but, there were only 636. I don't know what the rest of the files were. I was using the Secure Empty Trash command.
    That was my first time doing an erase and install. I tried to do it again, but I now get a continuous error telling me that my hard drive is full and I must delete files. Only I can't delete files because 4 files are still being deleted and my computer won't let me stop the process.
    I found out about the hackers mostly by the fact that whenever I used to watch something like Hulu or Netflix, I never had problems with internet connection or speed. Lately, I had internet connection problems. I went in to check my settings for my internet provider and found out the settings had been changed to public and all these extra computers were connected to my network.

  • Why am i having problems since changing from snow leopard loading maverick

    why am i having problems since changing from snow leopard downloading maverick

    Yes you solved your own question, use printer handles color, whcih shodul have been the default. If you do want to experiment with Photohsop manages color, try the CMYK profiles, and send a cmyk file. Only exception is if you print to one of the few RGB printers like a lambda.

  • Safari in Snow Leopard and search provider

    Hi,
    I cannot find option to choose search provider in Safari in Snow Leopard. Did it disappear?

    Hi,
    That image you posted is from the Windows version of Safari (note the close window button in the top right of the window).
    The Windows version does allow you to toggle between Google and Yahoo. For whatever reason, Apple only offers Google on OS X.
    Many third party developers offer tools that can change the default. Have a search on versiontracker.com / macupdate.com - just be aware that they may not be Snow Leopard compatible yet.

  • Safari on Snow Leopard

    The Safari in Snow Leopard is so disappointing. Am facing problems like
    - Pixelated images on some pictures on facebook (Working fine on Firefox)
    - Not automatically downloading files

    I have the same issue. Pages that were nearly instant before are now exceedingly slow (www.google.com, for example, takes about 7 seconds). I have several other computers on the same network that are either running Leopard or Windows that don't have this problem, so it's not a DNS issue. I've also verified that my network connection isn't saturated.
    I've tried the following:
    * Resetting Safari
    * Emptying the cache
    * Repairing permissions
    * Deleting all subfolders of ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
    * Deleting Downloads.plist, History.plist, and LastSession.plist
    * Removing everything from both the system and account copies of the InputMethods and Internet Plugins folders
    This should essentially be a clean install of Safari, but it is still exceedingly slow. Note that it's not consistent: it will load a page quickly then, 5 seconds later, the same page will take a very long time to load.
    Sometimes, most of the items on the page will come in nearly instantaneously, but suddenly the page will stop loading for a good 5 to 10 seconds. Once that time elapses, the rest of the page suddenly downloads.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Safari in Snow Leopard

    I have upgraded to Snow Leopard weeks ago, and have been having minor issues. I usually use Firefox, but a website requires Safari in Snow Leopard to run - well, I've downloaded the Safari off of the snow leopard disk THREE times and it still says I have an invalid version on my computer and cannot run. I also just installed all the current FEI updates and all that stuff, to see if it would help - alas, I still do not have the ability to run Safari. This is killing me because I need this website to study for a huge test tomorrow, so any quick suggestions would be kindly appreciated.

    HI,
    If you are running 10.5.2, go to the Apple Menu / Software Updates. It's very important to keep your system software up to date.
    After you finish with the installation, repair disk permissions.
    Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • "Safari Can't Find the Server" is chronic in Safari under Snow Leopard...

    Since moving to Snow Leopard (or perhaps it is just an updated Safari in SL and otherwise not related to SL??) when my Mac starts up from sleep with Safari being already open, I typically find a blank message with "Safari Can't Find the Server"... And just clicking on pages, I sometimes get that same message. Sometimes I get the spinning gear (for way too long) and I've learned to stop it and just click the same link again and more often than not, it opens immediately the second time...
    Any ideas??? Is this a bug that Apple needs to fix or do I need to do something to Safari (or something else) to fix this problem???
    thanks... bob...

    Whoa... Now I'm really confused... When I go to my System Preferences, then Network, highlight Airport, then click on Advanced, then choose the DNS tab, all I see under DNS Servers is the internal IP address of my Apple Router (10.x.x.x).. And next to that under Search Domains is hsd1.ca.comcast.net... And that is all there is... And I didn't set any of that up... When I bought my Apple Extreme Router a couple years ago, I was so impressed because I came home, plugged it in, basically said "GO" and the router set it all up and just worked... And I'm pretty sure (though not positive) that the Router put the 10.x.x.x in that preference panel, in other words, pointed to itself for DNS services...
    This is effectively saying that the DNS configured in the router will be the default.
    So help me understand... If I change the DNS settings on the mac from 10.x.x.x to the OpenDNS values, the router would still have the Comcast values in it??? How does that work??? And if I only change them on my mac, then the rest of the computers on my home network would still be using the original Comcast DNS servers as established on the router, yes??? I mean I think that would have to be...
    If you change your Mac, that is what it will use. Other computers will use whatever
    they are configured to use.
    See my confusion??? Again, I know only enough about Network settings to know that if I click a wrong button I could make a lot of trouble... So I don't move until I understand what at least a little more than clearly I know now...
    So how do local (mac) settings for DNS play (or not) with DNS settings up at the router level???
    The local settings should override anything else since that is what will
    be used first. They have no interaction with what is at the router level.
    thanks... bob..

  • Problem with airport after snow leopard upgrade.

    I know there are several threads about this already but none of the "answers" to those threads fix my problem. I just upgraded snow leopard and installed the new update. Since then I can connect to my wifi, but nothing will load. My airport says that I am connected and that I have a full signal, but whenever I open my internet browser (firefox, safari), nothing will load, it just stays on the screen that says "loading" at the top. I've tried deleting the "Automatic" airport option and creating my own but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?? Right now the only way i can access the internet is be plugging directly into the router.

    Hi swftrules,
    It's probably worth trying just to ensure that the issue is (or isn't) location specific. Preferably to go somewhere that you've never connected before and has free WiFi without crazy encryption. An Apple Store is a great location to try.
    If it does work at the new location, I'd be inclined to reset the router and set it back up (open network) and see if that works and then add encryption from there.
    If it doesn't work at the new location, then I'd consider reloading the OS if you've already tried the new network location.

  • Missing radio buttons in Safari 4 / Snow Leopard

    I'm a Moderator/Jr. Admin on a forum and just noticed since upgrading last night to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 that I no longer see radio buttons on my drop down options list (Safari 4.0.3). Screen capture can be seen at: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i152/imacpwr/EFcapture001small.jpg
    There are suppose to be radio buttons to the left of each option but they are missing! I'm seeing this problem only on my Mac Pro. My Mac Book Air has the same version of OS X and Safari but not the problem.
    I thought I'd try and re-install Safari so I downloaded the file and started the install. The installer then informs me that I need OS X 10.5.8 or newer to install.
    Huh ? ? ?
    Anyone got any ideas how to get the radio buttons working again?
    Message was edited by: imacpaul

    Yes, I saw that on the following thread and can confirm it's true, Zooming (enlarging) the page causes the radio buttons to drop out. Very annoying in my situation since I have 3-23" monitors and regularly use 4 virtual desktops as a forum moderator. I like to enlarge the pages so that I can sit back and clearly read all the monitors at ease.

  • Safari on Snow Leopard painfully slow to use in foreground.

    "If you have broadband and your Safari does not load 99% of all web pages in less than 2 seconds, and the majority of them in less than one, there is something wrong with your system."
    sigh OK I AM OPENING A NEW THREAD.
    Even though the previous thread explained the exact same symptoms that others were experiencing. If I sound annoyed because I am.
    Basically if I use safari the browser takes forever to load a page on broadband.
    - It has nothing to do with DNS or any kind of network settings.
    So if I pick a page like say "digg.com" with just Safari running.
    - 6 seconds with browser in foreground.
    - 3 seconds with browser running in background (clicked off it).
    That is also nothing to do with caching issue either, because I tested this a few times with pages with/without cached pages.
    Now if I have any kind of app that uses graphics running at the same time then safari basically becomes unusable in the foreground.
    With Wow running window'ed, safari in the foreground to load digg.com can take a few minutes. If I try to load that same site and switch to any other app it will load the page 1-2 seconds from when I switch away from it.
    Prior to snow leopard I never experienced this issue.
    If the page was never in the cache to begin with then not only will it take forever to load but the browser becomes unresponsive until it does. Again switching away from the browser window (even clicking on the desktop) puts the speed back to what it once was.

    Have the same problem so at least it is just not me. Was all excited when Snow Leopard came out because it was suppose to be so efficient and fast with the new Safari version according to the hype. Nottttttt! My internet never hung up with Leopard and the previous Safari and now I get the spinning wheel all of the time. Tried loading the newest Flash and this helped for a while. Shutting down and restarting seems to help for a while but it goes back to being a slug. Maybe it is because I am leaving more windows and tabs open but I still did that before. Have seen lots of possible remedies posted but it seems that Apple should get on this. Feels like I am back on dial up and yes I have tested my connection which is comcast high speed (fast on my PC) and have plenty of hard drive space available. Judging from all of the posts on here at least I am not going crazy.

  • Safari In Snow Leopard Not 64-Bit?

    Hi, All!
    I installed a copy of Snow Leopard a few days ago. The install went fine, and everything seems fine after the update, except:
    I read multiple times that Snow Leopard would come with an updated, 64-Bit version of applications such as Safari. But when I open Safari and look at the process in Activity Monitor, under Kind [of memory] it says, "Intel," not "Intel (64-bit)," like other things (such as the Finder). Is this supposed to be like this? I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong.
    One thing that I think may have casued the problem:
    After installing Snow Leopard, I saw a folder on the disc called Optional Installs. I thought it was odd that I would need to install these things again, as I thought I had already installed them by clicking Customize in the initial Snow Leopard installation. But, I thought, better safe than sorry, so I installed them again via the Optional Installs package. Afterwards, I got this message:
    But, the latest update at the link given is for 10.5.8. Do I really install that?
    I realize now that it was probably unnecessary to run the Optinal Installs package.
    So, what should I do?
    How do I get the 64-Bit Safari, or do I have it already?
    If possible, I want to avoid reinstalling 10.6.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Nate

    Greetings,
    Safari 4.0.3 is not 64-bit compatible; besides, it wouldn't do you any good if it was, since Safari is not a memory-intensive application, and 64-bit applications have only a minor speed advantage in handling large amounts of RAM.
    The Optional Installs folder is only if you need to reinstall an application that is normally installed by default; there wasn't any need or reason for you to go in there. You already have the latest version of Safari.

  • Problem after upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger

    Hello all!
    I have an old macbook pro 15" purchased on 2007. It's model is macbookpro3,1 and it runs Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. Recently I upgrade the system to Snow Leopard. Everything seems to be fine except the laptop runs much hotter.
    At first I don't know why but then I found out that on the Energy Saver menu, there is no options to select between the intel onboard graphics card and nVidia 8600M GT. And it seems the system selects the 8600M GT as the default card, therefore my GPU temperature is always about 60 Celsius degree.
    Another problem is the Airport card is also hot, it's always about 60C degree (according to iStat Pro)
    So anybody has same problem with me? It'd be great if you could help me figuring out these issues.
    Thanks a lot!!!

    Are you sure there is an Intel onboard graphics processor in your MacBook Pro? AFAIK, Mac laptops do not have multiple graphics processors -- MBP's have a single fairly powerful one with dedicated video memory & regular MacBooks have only a somewhat less powerful one that use shared system memory.
    For example, the MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) Technical Specifications make no mention of an Intel GPU.
