Quality issues with "Stray Cat Blues" off Beggars Banquet
Since JUNE , I've been trying to get the iTunes store to fix a problem with "Stray Cat Blues" off Beggars Banquet / Rolling Stones. There's a warbling glitch on this song at around 2:20. I've downloaded it every two weeks since then and although the response from support claims that they take issues of quality "very seriously," the only solution I've been offered is to download the same crap version every two weeks. I am very doubtful this will ever be resolved. Does anyone else have the iTunes version of this song and do you hear the same problem? Does anyone know a better route to get the file fixed?

The boot drive i was gonna get, i decided to hold off on, (the Raptor), until i square away these issues im currently experiencing.
As of now im running Tiger 10.4.10 on my OEM Drive from Apple, its a 500GB Seagate.
Im partial to tiger as its provided enough stability for my Audio & Graphics design setup, im reluctant to goto Leopard and ill see once i figure out the situation with the ATI Card.
All my sata ports seem fine, i only have TWO DRIVES in my MacPro Drive Bay 1= OSX and Drive Bay 2 = XP PRo. I tried a few drives in each point and all show up and formatted fine with the exception of the DOA i received a week or so ago.
-- SO basically i just want to slap the new blank drive into the case, connect it and go from there; so a GUID partition then a Clone is the way to do it?
The new firewire case unfortunately is only USB 2.0 & FW400.

then sometime this week the ATI Card to be replaced at the applestore as applecare over the phone recommend that they do it and run a diagnostics (Okay? i guess).
I even asked the Apple Care and Genius if it could be a bad connector or something but they insisted the PSU would be making a grinding sound if so.
but im not sure how that is because most of the people dont seem to trouble shoot MacPros.

Recurring quality issues with HP Elitebook 6930p
Good afternoon to all forumers,
I am trying to find out if anyone besides me have the same recurring quality issues with HP Elitebook 6930p? Although these issues have all been resolved by HP. I find it very inconvenient since this is a business notebook and these issues have cause me a lot of down time and grievances. A list of my Elite book issues.
Warped LCD panel causing the latch not to work. (1 time)
Dead pixels on new LCD panel replacement (1 time).
Deteriorated touch pad rubber left button, which I don't use. (1 time)
Keyboard not working. (2 times)
Screw holding the top sdie switch panel came off on one corner. Reason being, the screw holder cracked (1 time).
Reading lack cover on the LCD panel cracked on its own. I rarely use this. (1 time).
Notebook overheating. The cooling element not working properly. (1 time).
Defective power adapter, loose contact at adapter (1 time). Replaced within warranty period.
I do not know whether to term this as` unlucky' or to say that today's HP business notebook has not got the `Quality' a business notebook should have. I have used other business notebook from HP, namely 2 models from the nx series but they are not as bad as the Elitebook except for the same high operating temperature issue.
Is there any course of action that I can take up with HP Malaysia? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I heard that many of the issues you and the others that posted were improved/fixed by HP later on in production. My notebook was built in December of 2010, so it was pretty much the last of the line.
I have not experienced any problems with mine thus far, after 8 months of light use. I have tested every component at least once. I know the latch issue was fixed on later models.

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

Actually I have 2 problems: I cant find my pdf/ibooks on computer after backing up my iPad (they are on my iPad). I looked under Ipad, I Books, PDFs, and it doesn't show them on the computer. How do I manually transfer these files?
Also, I'm having issues with my Ipad turning off about every 2 minutes, and I want to restore it. I want to make sure all of the files are backed up before I restore. My trouble started when I was trying to update my IPad but it was taking too long (internet was scetchy) so I powered off...now Im having problems. I haven't tried to update again since this problem. Any suggestions? Should I restore? Should I update to 7.0.6? (currently 7.0.3).

Quality issues with IDVD solved

RE. Best looking IDVD playback.
May this help all those stuggling with quality issues with perfect looking Qtime files encoded by IDVD coming out looking crap.
Simply this: instead of exporting your media from your FCP timeline in H.264 - instead select Motion JPEG A. This is found under your setting options in your Qtime movie/settings export window.
Your files will export much, much faster than Apple's default setting of H.264, you will also get very smooth playback wihtout any jaggies or nasty artifacts. Files are a larger but, hey, it just looks great.
Let me know if this works for you - it took me ages to figure this out!

Photo Quality Issues with Pixma MG6220
I am frustrated. The first photo printed from this printer was of poor quality. It was very 'grainy' and 'noisey'. I printed from the printer itself (put camera card into printer). I then printed from Picasa, same problem, very poor quality. It was then a couple of months before I attempted printing again. I printed from PS Elements 11. The quality was much improved but not what I expected from this printer. I finally called tech support, after tweaking every setting I could find. They essentially blamed my computer, wanted to reinstall the drivers and I need to buy new ink cartridges. It's NOT my computer. I'm curious as to why they think it's the drivers. It very well could be bad cartridges. The printer was purchased in December (six months ago). I'm wondering why the photo software would make a difference. I'm irritated that the people I spoke with seemed completely incurious as to what, exactlly, was wrong with the photos. It would appear that no on else has had this issue. The reviews for this printer were very good. I can't imagine reviewing these images and stating that they are "excellent" as I have read from many reviews. I'll be more than happy to attach scanned images for review (scanner works fine). Thank you.

This was using Canon Glossy II photo paper and NOT Canon Ink. I was trying different replacement inks over the time and I had similar results.
I'm a little bit hesitant with spending more money on this printer, esp. that I had never have this kind of quality issues with my previous Canon printer (MP600) when using non canon inks - I had color issues but never grainess.
Well, I may try original inks again, but it breaks a deal for this printer. -

Quality issues with slideshows
Hi,
I'm a long term user of PE v9 (basic editing & burning of home vids & slideshows), but I've just bought a new computer & upgraded to Photoshop & PE v11.
The first slideshow I created (created in Photoshop & exported to PE for adding music, titles etc) had a lot of issues:
Some of the photos were rotated 90 degrees & stretched (which I noticed & cut out prior to burning), but more importantly,
The end product once burned to DVD is of terrible quality.
I seem to recall that when I first set up PE 9 I set a project quality standard that all future projects would follow unless I changed it. I've looked everywhere in PE 11 & I can't find where this is set. I'm not overly technical and I'm out of ideas re: where to look to fix these quality issues.
Can anyone help?

I've spent literally hours on this trying all sorts of combinations of settings and ways & means of initiating a slideshow. To my surprise & absolute elation, I finally had a partial win late last night. I finally got the quality of the slides to be as good as I've been getting for years with PrE v7. I haven't been able to work out the rotation & stretching of some photos yet, but I'm at least I've got good quality on the photos that didn't rotate (which is the bulk of them).
Here's what I did, triggered by a comment above by VDOSurfer (thankyou VDOSurfer). I had actually already tried setting the project settings to DV-PAL (instead of AVCHD-PAL which I'd been using successfully with PrE v7) a couple of times with the same poor results, but I tried it again in a different order as follows:
Open PrE11.
Select 'New Project' (ie not existing project)
Once the new project opens up, select File, New Project (from the file menu at the top of the screen)
Click on 'Change Settings' at the bottom of the dialog box. I noticed here that my settings were always defaulting to NTSC/AVCHD 1080p60. So I changed this to PAL/DV Widescreen 48kHz (I live in Australia, so if you're in the US, I guess you'd select NTSC/DV Widescreen 48kHz).
Click on the checkbox 'Force selected project settings on this project'.
Click on Add Media
I added my slideshow from Photoshop because I'd already prepared it in that product, but you should be able to add it from wherever your photos live.
Click on Publish+Share, select DVD & Disk, ensure PAL_DOLBY_Widescreen DVD is selected. (If you're in the US, this would be NTSC).
Burn as normal.
This worked very well for me. Hope it helps. Please let me know how you go.
If anyone has any thoughts on how to stop the random rotation & stretching, I'd love to hear. Note that photos that are rotated & stretched start off in the correct rotation in Photoshop Elements v11 prior to exporting to PrE 11.

Issue with PTO (Paid Time Off) quota generation
Hi All,
We have an issue with quota generation of PTO for our employees.
The issue goes like this:
We have a Paid time off for employees 5weeks( 200 hrs) for employees who have worked less than 5 years.
we have paid time off for employees 6 weeks ( 240 hrs) for employees who have worked more than 5 years.
we have the following logic that has to go in this config:
-- Our fiscal year starts on Feb 1st and ends on Jan end or Feb starts which has a full week of working days. ( ex: if 01/31/2012 falls on a Thursday the following Monday which has full 5 day working week would be the end of the fiscal year).
-- Depending on the working hours of the employees and the date of joining for the first year ( for new hires)0041 info type the eligibility gets varied and reduced. Ex( employees who joins on start of fiscal year and works 40hrs per week schedules is eligible for 200hrs of PTO. Employees who join in the month of august and works for 35 hrs per week ( i.e mid of fiscal year) would get 91 hrs of PTO.
I need to put this in the system. I am thinking this could be done with out tweaking PCR.I need help in configuring this in Absence quotas as to what are the things i need change in system config and how do i do it. Please help with some screen shots if possible. I really need this to get it done ASAP. Looking forward for help.

Iam doing this because my businees needs to see if an employee chages his work schedule from 40 to 30 or 20 etc.. the PTO has to vary accordingly.
As the minimum eligibility is to work for 20 hrs to avail the PTO days. If at any point the employee drops it under 20 he will not be eligible till he work any this >= 20hrs per month so the evaluation has to check periodically to update the quota availability.... I need help plz suggest ... -
Quality issues with VGA port on Type 2504 docking station
Hi,
I see quality issues on the VGA output of the Type 2504 docking station with a T61. The monitor image is blurred, not much, but enough to be irritating. When I compare the DVI output with the VGA output on two equal NEC MultiSync LCD 2170NX monitors it is a clear difference. If I connect the LCD monitor to the VGA output of the T61 itself, the picture is clean. I have tried both monitors with different cables in different configurations and also adjusted monitors manually, and my conclusion is that it must be the VGA output of the 2504 that generates the un-sharpness. I have got several 2504 docking stations from the IT department to test and all attempts show the same unsharp picture on the LCD connected to the VGA port of any 2504. Recently a colleague got a new laptop and docking station. He also used DVI and VGA on the old setup and had no visible difference between the two monitors. His new setup is a different T but his new dock is also a 2504. Now he has clear difference between his monitors. He also tried several 2540 docks and cables but the difference is still present.
The unsharpness is not immediately present when just looking at a dual head setup. But after a while it becomes tiresome to look at text, specially black on white, on the monitor connected to the VGA port. There is a slight shadow on the right side of all letters. When looking at non-aliased fonts, they look as if aliased on the VGA connected monitor. Already aliased fonts tend to "smear" and I have the unpleasant feeling that my eyes are not focusing correctly.
My question is: Is there a different VGA DAC on the docking station, or are the analog signals just wired through from the laptop VGA DAC? Older IBM docks do not have this problem, we have a lot of them at work in dual head configuration with DVI + VGA to compare, and we only see this problem with the 2504.VGA is an analogue signal... so it can be affected by the quality of DAC chip used by the GPU associated electronics, the quality of connectors on the vga out and dock (that is why good analgoue audio equipment use gold plated stuffs) and the quality of copper wire and shiedling used in the cable (i.e. Low Oxygen Content Copper wire).
The above is general description for all people to use <---- so please don't feel offended if i repeat something that is already said.
There is NO conversion electronics on the dock per se, they are just passthrough, so no conversion.
I guess the problem lies with improper shielding somewhere. I have the same problem with my T61/60 and dock and my T40,41,42,43 on five different docks.
So i have ended up using lenovo usb2dvi converter on T61 and have two dvi output and bypassed the vga altogether.

Quality issues with calls from US to Korea
I've always been a big fan of Skype. I have a premium account and I use "Skype to go" to call from the US to South Korea. Starting about 5 months ago, the quality of these calls has severely degraded. It is almost not worth the call. It is very difficult for me to hear the people I've called and for them to hear me as well. There is no Skype customer support contact phone number listed anywhere on the Skype website that I can find. Otherwise, I'd be addressing this issue with a real person. Is there a reason for this call quality degradation? Is there a fix in work? Is there a customer service number I can call? Is it time for me to leave Skype?

Image Quality issue with script
So I recently wrote a simple script to output an image at a bunch of different resolutions. However, I am running into an image quality issue that I don't run into when I do the same thing manually.

As you can see along the top of the model's forhead there is destinct color fragmentation. Which seems very strange.
Here is the script, it is pretty simple, it asks for a few simple config options. (the above image was created using default settings). It then figures out the correct ratios and loops through doing each resize, saving the image, then reverting the history so each iteration uses the original image data and not the resized version:

Anyway, as you can see, The manually exported image does not have any of the quality issues that are present within the scripted image. I am pretty new to photoshop scriping so am assuming it has something to do with me missing some sort of option in the save settings. Any help would be swell.
Also note, this doesn't occur on all images, I usually don't see an issue when using the script, however, something about the tones of this particular photo make it really obvious.

thanks so much!I'm on windows find the bicubicsharper does not work well it the image being resized has been highly sharpened all ready. Because of my Photoshop preferences I had to make minor modification to your script. I'm also a bit colorblind so i don't see many color issues so I include a screen capture if what windows does with your image and script.

Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?
I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?
Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

Quality issues with new Mac Mini 09?
I've been itching to hit the 'buy' button -- but in reading the many postings about the new Mac Mini, I'm seeing lots of issues with the bluetooth ... *wireless signal* ...
Is there anyone who's not experiencing any problems?
Sounds like it may be a hardware issue with connections... the last thing I want.
My other choice is the 2008 Mac Pro which seems trouble free.

Thanks.There is a general issue/trend with the new Mini. There are plenty of reports in these forums and the news has begun to hit the wider press; I guess this is more important to a company with only 2-3% desktop share than posts to these forums. I went to the Genius Bar on Saturday and they have now lodged an official bug report with Apple. It looks like the Mini cannot pair with more than one HCI device. So if you pair with the mouse first the keyboard won't work and vice-versa. They don't think the Mini hardware is broken but that we will just have to wait for Apple to fix the firmware.
Where I do agree is that some issues are OS-X 10.5 related and can therefore affect all Macs. The WiFi has issues where it randomly drops, it doesn't seem able to re-connect at all to channels above 13 and only manually to channels below 12. The system resume function is unreliable. All these started when we moved from 10.4 to 10.5 and so far they have not been addressed. One issue is that there does not appear to be a way for users to log bug reports, except when software crashes. However, the bluetooth issues on the Mac do appear real and are either firmware or hardware related. -

So, I have a ProRes file that I'm importing in premiere CS5 (7 x64).
I drag it on the timeline icon to create one with same settings, and I export it to a lossless codec.
The export file should be similar as the file source, but it's not.
It's really bad.
So I did the same in Edius, Procoder, and tgcmpeng.
And it's not similar neither to the source, but it's really better than premiere export.
Actually, these three software give same resuts.
I understood that my ProRes file is 10bit, and the lossles codec 8bit, so it's normal to get something lightly different.
But what I don't understand, is why Premiere export is not as good as the others.
I made some grabs for an exemple, and I just levelled up the gamma in photoshop to perfectly see differences.

As you can see, this last one has a lot of banding.

But I think I've figured it out.
It's simple :
Premiere import the yuv file in 10 bit is in RGB color space.
Between import and export to lossless codec, it makes two things :
- Convert the input YUV to RGB.
- Convert the 10 bit to 8 bit.
Result is a video file RGB 8 bit.
You can of course chose a YUV codec to force export in YUV 8 bit.
And you'll get better results, but the conversion YUV=>RGB=>YUV will slightly change colors.
That's why it's not as good.
To prove it I made a different test :
- I export the 10 bit YUV ProRes file to uncompressd 10 bit YUV.
and result was perfect, but with slight change of colors (YUV=>RGB=>YUV)
I think the CS5 new feature of working YUV files in RGB space is the reason of all.
And it has mportant drawback.
I hope CS6 will allow you to chose your space color workspace.
