Quartz composer: audio frequency question

Hey there guys. I'm fairly new to quartz composer, and I've been playing around with it to make some cool audio visualizers. I have a couple of neat projects that have every object reacting to a whole sound, but I'd like to take it a step further by having certain objects react to specific frequencies. Something like, say, a cube's width reacts to 200-500 hertz, and the hight reacts to 2000+ hertz, or something like that. Is there any way to make that happen?

Quartz Composer + Xcode - Audio Track to be played

Hi,
I have a quartz composition that plays a video. I am aware that from within quartz composer I am unable to hear the audio track.
I have successfully built a standalone Cocoa Application that plays the video but I am still unable to hear the audio track.
My question is how do i get the audio track to play? Is the stand alone Cocoa App the best way to go and if so how do I enable audio using this method.
Note: I need to use quartz composer to play the video as quartz is distorting the video onto a sphere.
Any helpers or pointers to the right direction to follow would be much appreciated.

I think you need to set on the asynchronous mode in the video player patch settings. this should start playing the sound when the loaded clip is running.

Midi and audio in quartz composer.

I am fairly new to quartz composer. Does any one know how to set up the midi input or controller in it? I can set up a basic image, but it will not respond to me playing my midi keyboard. I am so lost.

You just select Midi and Audio tracks while holding down the shift button. Arm both tracks->select the Midi track first (click into track header) ->hold down shift->select the Audio track->both track headers turn grey->record->have fun...

Quartz Composer 3d question

Is there a way to get custom objects into the library for the composer? I'd like to use some 3D designs Ive made that are a little more interesting than a cube, teapot etc.
I have found some pages on google, but one is in japanese and the other is way too complicated for me

I'm assuming I'll need to compile the contents into a plugin and place it somewhere, but have no idea how to use Xcode. Also, will it mean that if someone else wanted to use the screensaver will they need to install a plug for it?

Quartz Composer apps questions

A few questions regarding Quartz Composer apps:
1. how do you assign integer values to buttons inside Interface Builder ?
We have a switch that is published, where a value of 0 or 1 selects
one of two options. Buttons in Interface Builder apparently send
an action message. How do we assign values, for example when
a Recessed Button is pushed down, sending one value, and when deselected
sending another value ?
2. XCode 3.2 includes a template to create a new Quartz Composer app
(new project). When we create the new project, it includes an AppController
instead of the Patch Controller used in Apple's docs (see link below).
Are there any advantages to using an AppController ?
3. When using the XCode 3.2 new Quartz Composer App template,
inside Interface Builder there is a Quartz Composition Parameter View,
which contains the controls for the composition/app.
Is there any way to customize the controls within this view ?

How can I use multiple cameras in Quartz Composer?

Good morning, all. This is a quartz composer question, but I can't see a quartz-composer specific forum to ask it...
As part of a school project at ACAD we are building a rig to record the output from three video cameras to build a panoramic video. I have played with Quartz Composer to do the melding of videos recorded with this setup into a single image, and it worked very well.
However, to do so live is the intention for this project as well, so we can build the composite video for recording (the timing of three different cameras is a bit awkward) as well as line up the cameras without having to do so separately.
In Quartz Composer, however, the video-in plugin only reads the camera model number, not the unique GUID as seen in the System Profiler, so three identical cameras will not be read properly... you can only choose the model number, not the specific id of the camera.
Is this a bug in Quartz Composer? Is there some top-secret plugin that is hiding somewhere that will allow you to choose the individual camera id's as seen in the system profiler? (Cameras tested have been firewire handycams streamed live, and usb cameras. identical model numbers can't be chosen as individual cameras properly)

I am working on a project where I need the same functionality. But even though I'm using different webcams, and can clearly select them in the menu, still only one camera works at a time. Even if I run two separate patches, with two different camera inputs, only one of them works.
If you find any solution to this problem, I would really appreciate if you could share it.

Where's the best place to find Quartz Composer experts? (looking for a developer)

I'm looking for a Quartz Composer developer who is 1) interested in working with an artist and 2) can give me a quote for a specific project I am developing.

Apple hosts a bunch of mailing lists, one of which is for Quartz Composer devs. I read the list occasionally but have never really had the time to become proficient with QC.

The list is intended for technical discussions related to development and not really for job solicitation. But the usual folks on the list seem relatively friendly for the most part so I expect if you asked nicely and took any negotiations off-line that you wouldn't receive any flak.

i don't know what's going on, but for some reason, the Quartz Composer app is not installing when i run the DeveloperTools.pkg

Quicktime movie chapters in Quartz composer

Hi,
I am working on my diploma presentation in Quartz composer on Snow Leopard. It also includes Quicktime movies with chapters that I want to skip to via the Apple Remote (or some other input device). But how can I address these chapters? Is there a way to work with them directly or do I have to do some kind of workaround. I'd be happy to get some hints.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Quartz Composer - Effects of Other Cards? Any New Ideas?

I have read the discussions here about Quartz Composer, and noticed a mix of difficulties:
1 hardware restrictions (G4 or video card)
2 can't get preview (white screen), but can get render
3 can get preview, but can't get render (white screen)
4 can't get either preview or render
5 get greyed or coloured results in renders
I'm suffering 4 - no preview or render - but not 1 - I have a G5 2G Dual Processor, with an ATI Radeon Pro 9600. (I see ripples when widgets launch.)
In this context, are there any new ideas?
One observation: to find out the name of my video card, I ran system profiler, to be reminded that I have:
- an old ATI card driving a second monitor in a PCI slot
- an Alchemy TV card also in a PCI slot
I know it's tempting to blame the cards for the iMovie difficulty, especially since we are talking about a video problem, and both are video cards, so I want to ask:
- are there any people with these kinds of cards having no problem at all?
- are there any people with similar cards experiencing similar problems?

Have you tried pulling out [Alchemy TV and second monitor] cards, just to rule
them out as a source of the problem?
No... my thinking is that I'm an amateur iMovie user, and in the end I would feel more comfortable with my second montor and (very occasionally used!) TV than with a fully working iMovie. Hence my questions were directed at finding out whether others had:
- these problems without cards being fitted
- no problems despite cards being fitted

Quartz Composer Files not opening

Hi, I am new to Quartz Composer. I hope I am posting this query in the right area.
Browsing the net to get info on doing motion detection with QC, I have come across a number of downloadable sample compositions. However, when clicked on, the following message appears -"the downloaded composition is unsafe and cannot be run inside webkit".
Control clicking allows me to download the file anyway but on launching QC a message reads that the file was not restored successfully, listing the problems (eg. > Macro Patch Cannot create node of class "QCQueue" and identifier "(null)"etc.)
From discussions on the pages that these compositions are posted on, it is clear that others have downloaded and used these files without problems.
I have QC Version 2.0 (16) running on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.4.11
Any ideas?

In Quartz Composer, some of the patches are deemed as "unsafe" because they could potentially be used for malicious purposes, such as the video input or audio input patches. I'm pretty sure that Kineme ( http://kineme.net/ ) has a plugin that lets you work around those limitations, though.

Quartz Composer isn't on my mac

I have Mac OS X 10.7.3, and I have installed numerous developer tools, including Xcode, Quartz Composer, Dashcode, and Instruments. I have used all of these before; several months ago, and they worked just fine. I recently wanted to use Quartz Composer, and I can't find it anywhere on my computer. The only place that has any reference to it is in the LaunchPad, which shows a question mark over the icon. Same for Dashcode and Instruments. How do I get these onto my Mac?

Can't get a quartz composer file to play via applescript.

I'm trying to create a script to play a quartz composer file full screen.
I do the following:
tell application "Finder"
open POSIX file "/Users/wesM/Desktop/colorbar audio.qtz"

tell application "QuickTime Player"
activate
play front document
end tell
I get an error "document 1 doesn’t understand the play message". I tested and can play a .mov file, but not a .qtz file? Any help/ideas?
