Query By Example with view object - how?
Hi all,
I have a named query "select new model.vo.PatientVO(o) from Patient o", how to write this using Query By Example?
Entity Patient has complex structure, so PavientVO (we call it "view object", I don't know the official term for this), which is very simplified Patient, is used for displaying the basic data.
I guess I would still use Patient as example object, but how to tell the query framework to return PatientVOs?

You would need to use a ReportQuery with the example object, and add a constructor item to the ReportQuery.
You could also just use a regular ReadAllQuery and wrap the Patient objects with your PatientVO after.

Hi,
I have extended my controller to add an additional condition to the view object query where I appen an add condition.If there is any kind of exception the add condition keeps on appending without refreshing the query to the orginal one.I have to clear the cache to be able to fix it

Y don't u make a custom VO, as you are doing set query, i expect ur changing entire query of seeded VO, better to use custom VO here and attach it to required beans progrmatically.

How to bind the value of textbox with View object's bind variable?
Hi all,
In my use case I need to pass the value of textbox in the jsf page to the View Object's bind variable.
I should not hard code this in my backing bean. I need to configure in the Jdeveloper itself.

Problem with view object for global variables

I'm using jdeveloper 11.1.2.3.0
We are using view object with transient attributes for global variables.
we defined the view as explained here:

also we defined one of the attributes as primary key.
When we start to test our application with disable connection pooling we got some problems.
sometimes the row in the global view object is deleted.
(for example after using executeEmptyRowSet on other view object).
it looks strange, we couldn't fוnd why does it happen.
Any idea?As Timo said, it is very hard to help without source.
Are you sure that you do the next step:
After the call to super.prepareSession(), add code to create a new row in the transient view object and insert it into the view object. -
I have created a new ViewObject in my Application Module in the project where I have my BC4J.
Previously, I created a BC4J JSP Application project based on the other project but a this time I didn4t have created a ViewObjet that I want to use now.
Then, I created a new JSP pages and I added the DataTags referring to that new ViewObject like this:

I need to add some new methods to my source code of an View Object (ej. KssegtrolesImp.java) and call them in my jsp pages. In that file we have by default methods as:
create(), doDML(), etc..
I added new methods but I don`t know how to do to call that method on an Entity Object.

I'm not quite sure I understand--Do you need to call View Object methods or Entity Object methods?
It sounds like you want to call Entity Object methods, if I understand correctly. You can't do that directly, because clients don't directly access the Entity Object layer.
You can instead access these from a View Row. I'm about to post a HowTo on accessing EO methods this way.

General query: What are HRFG views? How are they built?
I've been asked to look at my company's HRMS data with a view to setting up a new End User Layer for general reporting of HRMS data. I've seen talk here and elsewhere about various HRFG views but can't find any documentation about what they are, how they're refreshed, when they're built and what they're intended to contain.
Could someone please point me in the direction of some documentation on this subject? - I don't find it easy to find any in Oracle's online documentation, or on the web generally.
Or failing that could someone please give a brief overview here?

They basically said (If I've understod correctly) that the views are internal system type views that are used as part of the Daily Business Intelligence or HR Intelligence views built for Discoverer. As such they can be used as long as they're rebuilt and kept up-to-date, but their direct use is not really supported. They are intended to include the custom configurations set up in flex fields and should be rebuilt after any flex field changes.
For me they're useful in that they can show how tables are joined together, even if I don't use them directly.
Oracle pointed me towards 2 notes that were instructive:

Problem in using MultiSelect ADF table with view Object
I have a requirement of displaying a table with multi select option. On page load table will be displayed with all columns as output text except last column as input text. User can update the last column of the selected row and only checked rows should get updated in the DB Table.

actually..i know that labview can be a client or server. when the labview be a client, it can access other enable activeX application such as excel or word. i manage to do that a little such as to open excel file and save it at another location by using activeX functions or using the report generation toolkit. yes, i already know and understand the flow or concept of how the labview can be a client. But by using others activeX application especially excel, how can we make the labview be a server? i just need a very easy example and few steps for me to understand how can labview be a server or how excel can control the labview properties?

Quick QBE - query by example with updateable report ?

works fine.
My problem is, what is the easiest way to make this report updateable ?
The report should have an separate column for the edit-icon and link this record to another form page.
It's necessary to create a new column for my table ?

You do need to create an extra column containing the ID field of the underlying table.
You can then set the link attributes of that column to specify:
1. The page you want to link to; and
2. The ID value to pass to the new page.
The 'edit' page will then use the value you passed to fetch a row from the table in order to populate the page's items.
If you create a Form and Report on a Table using the wizard, you will see how it's done.

Passing an argument in the SQL Query of a View Object

It is possible that this question has been asked before, however I have searched for a half an hour in the forums and couldn't find a solution.
I am also new to using JDeveloper and ADF. Here's the situation:
I am developing an application that doesn't have to do anything else then displaying data from a database. Pretty straightforward actually.
Now I have made a vew pages with several collapsible panels (af:showDetailHeader) and have setup the datasources (or so I thought).
All that remains is:
- drag & drop a view object, from the application module that I created, onto the collabsible panels, so a child element gets created which displays data from the database.
- hack the layout so it looks like I want it to.
The problem that I have is the following:
I am using a 'User'-class that contains values I need when quering the database.
That User-object is part of a user-session.
What I want, for example, is to use the 'getPersonId()' function of that User-object and pass the argument to a SQL-query of a certain view-object.
The query would become something like:
'SELECT * FROM people WHERE people.personId = :someNumber'.
Now I've read some stuff about variable binding, which is complemented by something like (backing bean code):
getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().getACertainViewObject().setWhereClauseParameter(1, user.getPersonId());
The examples I have found that might match my wishes are not using business components, but EJB's. I am having difficulty with understanding the 'how'-part of variable binding.
Also, I do not know enough of ADF to be able to create a situation like:
'User loads page, collapsible panel 1 is fully shown, the others are undisclosed.'
(meaning, that for panel1 a query has been executed.)
'User clicks on collapsible panel 2 which triggers a backingbean that somehow retrieves data from a view object'.
I would appreciate any help that somebody can give.
If it is not too much of a problem, please provide code snippets in case you have a solution. I am new to ADF :(.

I didn't think about a referenced bean rule in the faces-config.
I added it right away and I am now able to set parameters of a View-object, not using a page button and before the page loads. You made my day!
In case anyone ever reads this post again, the summary of how to generate a table based on a View-object using dynamic parameters.:
1a: Go to faces-config.xml -> Overview tab'
1b: Go to the menuitem "Referenced Beans"
1c: Click on 'new' and select the existing bean you want to access data from and input a name. In this example I use name="user"
2: Create a View-object using the wizard.
2a: Specify the query you want in the menuitem 'SQL Statement'.
Add the 'parameters' you want to. You will have something like:
"SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE :someArgument".
- hint: if you want the result to become something like:
"SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE '%someArgument%'" then you have to add the '%'-characters in your code itself (read: someClass.setParameter("%" + someArgument);).
2b: In the menuitem 'Bind Variables' you have to add the variables you are referring to in the query. If you look at the query in 2a, then you have to add a variable with name "someArgument".
2c: Add the View-object to a Application Module (create one if nessecairy).
3a: Open a .jsp(x) file. Drag the View-object created in step 2 from the 'Data Controls'-pane to the page.
3b: Click on the '+' of the View-object in the 'Data Controls'-pane and open 'Operations' and drag 'ExecuteWithParams' to your page as a button.
3c: We do not want to use a button, the action has to be executed immediatly. So In the page source remove the lines that were created after dropping 'ExecuteWithParams'.
3d: Right-click on the page and select "Go to Page Definition".
3e: Go to the action id that is called 'ExecuteWithParams#', where # is a number.
Change the id to something useful.
3f: Change the NDValue so it corresponds with the value you want.
Example:

what I'm trying to do is to get a record from a database and show it to the user on the initiator UI using ADF BC and not the Database Adapter.
I have been able to work with ADF BC and View Objects to get all the rows and show them to the user in a table.
However, when I try to run the same query in the parameterized form to just return a single row, I hit a wall.
In short, My problem is like this:
I have an Application Module which has an entity object and a view object.
My database is SQL Server 2008.
when I try to create a new read only view object to return a single row I face the problem.
The query I have in the query section of my View Object is like this:
select *
from dbo.Employee
where EmployeeCode= 99which works fine.
However when I define a bind variable, input_code for example, and change the query to the following it won't validate.
select *
from dbo.Employee
where EmployeeCode= :input_codeIt just keeps saying

incorrect syntax near ":"

I don't know if this has to do with my DB not being Oracle or I'm doing something wrong.
Can someone help me with this problem please?

Changing SQL Query in View Object during runtime

I've got some problems with view objects which I dropped on my JSP page.
1.)
What I want to do is changing SQL query during running my application. I have view object based on select query: "SELECT * FROM DEPARTMENTS". And after clicking button (or something else) I want to change the query: "SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES" and I want to see this changes in my JSP page. Setting the query and executing it doesn't work. How can i do it?

I want to create view object programmatically, but I don't know exactly how many columns / attributes it will have. If I know the names of the attributes it's ok, but i don't know it... So I've got function, its body is:

SetCurrentRowWithKeyValue - Does this execute View Object Query twice?
Hi,
I have a View Object for which on the prepare model of the page definition I am executing the setCurrentRowWithKeyValue action.
In the log I see two queries being printed one with Bind Variable of the Key value that I have passed and right next to that I see one more query for the same view object that gets executed without any where clause.
This causes the View Object to execute an open query which is causing performance issue.
Any help/Insight on this problem is greatly appreciated.

Solution provided in the thread doesn't prevent the execution but it will not return any rows..But I am just curious to know that is there some thing different done while using setCurrentRowWithKeyValue?
Why should it execute query twice once with Bind variable and next time without the bind variable?
