SetCurrentRowWithKeyValue - Does this execute View Object Query twice?

Hi,
I have a View Object for which on the prepare model of the page definition I am executing the setCurrentRowWithKeyValue action.
In the log I see two queries being printed one with Bind Variable of the Key value that I have passed and right next to that I see one more query for the same view object that gets executed without any where clause.
This causes the View Object to execute an open query which is causing performance issue.
Any help/Insight on this problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kumar K.

Thanks for the response.
Solution provided in the thread doesn't prevent the execution but it will not return any rows..But I am just curious to know that is there some thing different done while using setCurrentRowWithKeyValue?
Why should it execute query twice once with Bind variable and next time without the bind variable?

    Hi,
    I have extended my controller to add an additional condition to the view object query where I appen an add condition.If there is any kind of exception the add condition keeps on appending without refreshing the query to the orginal one.I have to clear the cache to be able to fix it
    below is the peice of code.What should I do to be able to get the original query or refresh it because when i do a getQuery it keeps giving me the query with the earlier condition that I appended and again appends the new condition.

    Y don't u make a custom VO, as you are doing set query, i expect ur changing entire query of seeded VO, better to use custom VO here and attach it to required beans progrmatically.

  • How To change the ADF View Object  query where-clause at RunTime?

    I am trying to create a simple display page which will display user data (username, assoc_dist_id, assoc_agent_id, status , etc). The User data is stored in a database table and i am using an ADF Read Only table based on the View Object to display the data on the JSF page.
    However, i want to display only the users that a particular person accessing the page has the AUTH LEVEL to see. e.g. If the person accessing the page is an 'ApplicationAdministrator' then the page should display all users in the table, If its a 'DistributorAdministrator' then the page should display only users associated with that Distributor (i.e. assoc_dist_id = :p_Dist_id ) and If its an 'AgentAdministrator' , then the page should display only users associated with that Agent ( i.e. assoc_agent_id = :p_Agent_id).
    Currently my af:table component displays all the users in the table because the query for the view object is (select * from users) . However, i want to use the same viewobject and just set the where-clause at runtime with the appropriate parameter to restrict the dataset returned.
    Do anyone knows how to accomplish this ?

    David,
    See the custom method initializeDynamicVariableDefaults() in the SRViewObjectImpl.java class in the FrameworkExtentions project in the SRDemoSampleADFBC sample application. You can find out how to install the demo if you haven't already from the ADF Learning Center at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
    This class is a framework extension class for view objects that adds a neat, generic feature to be able to dynamic default the value of named bind variables. You can read more about what framework extension classes are and how to use them in Chapter 25, "Advanced Business Components Techniques" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers, also available at the learning center above.
    It is an example of generic framework functionality that "kicks in" based on the presence of custom metadata properties on a named bind variable. See section 25.3.3 "Implementing Generic Functionality Driven by Custom Properties" in the dev guide for more details. Using this sample code, if you add a bind variable to a view object, and define a custom metadata property named "DynamicDefaultValue" on that bind variable, and set this custom metadata property to the value "CurrentUser", then that bind variable will have its value dynamically defaulted to the name of the authenticated user logged in. If instead you set this custom property to the value "UserRole", then the bind variable will be set to the comma-separated string containing the list of roles that the authenticated user is part of.
    Once you've created a framework extension class for view objects like this, you can have the view objects you create inherit this generic functionality.See section 25.1.4 "How to Base an ADF Component on a Framework Extension Class" in the dev guide for more info on this.
    By adapting a technique like this (or some idea similar that better suits your needs) you can have your view object query contain bind variables whose values automatically take on the defaults based on something in the user-session environment.

  • View object query bind variable

    I have a bind variable in my view object query and "Required" is unchecked for it. Due to this JUnits are failing with the Missing IN or OUT parameter error. If I set the bind variable as required, the JUnits run fine.
    But this bind variable is also used in several view criterias where it is set as Optional. So if I set the bind variable in the view object query as Required, will it affect the view criterias as well?

    I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C.  I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup.  Why is it doing this.  I did it twice yesterday.....  In addtion, those are the only options I have.  I cannot do anything else unless I choose one of the two.  Zero options.  Phone works fine though.

    I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
    When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
    Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?
    In a word, no.
    If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
    There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

  • How does this SAVE View works in WAD ?

    Experts,  Before putting this question, i did search for this isssue but couldnt find the correct answer.
    when i run the query in portal i get the correct report. but when i right click on any of the charastractis, i could see the drop down list with some options. in this list of options, there is one entry "Save View"
    I tried saving it, with technical name and desc. but i couldnt find it anywhere.
    does anyone has idea ? how this save view works in Portal ?
    thanx

    Hi, plz. find my answers inline.
    My question is how can we make use of this View. So, what is the importance of VIEW ? How users get benefited ?
    >> If you have scenarios wherein users would want to carry out their own analysis & save for future reference/records, then query views prove to be beneficial. Else creating individual queries to suit user preferences is cumbersome & time consuming.
    I was researching on SDN, and found that if i save it As a VIEW. then if we change the query. the saved view remains unchanged. is that right ? But, what if i remove some characteristics from the query ? Does it remove from the VIEW too ?? Or, Its just, if we make some changes to Key figure structure. It wont make any impact on view.
    >>  You execute a query with its initial view, change the initial view by navigating in the data, and save this new navigational state as a query view. If you later change the initial view of the query in the BEx Query Designer, this change has no effect on the query view previously saved. The query view already exists as an independent object.
    Please let me know. if you find some documentation please post a link, i am happy to read that.

    There are two ways:
    1. Uncheck "Query List Automatically" under List UI Hints in the view object overview xml.
    2. In the query add "where 1=:bnum and 1 is not null" and execute the query in the LaunchPopupEvent
        public void userIdId_launchPopupListener(LaunchPopupEvent launchPopupEvent) {
            DCIteratorBinding myListIter = (getItrtBindings("MyLovViewObj1Iterator"));
            ViewObject vo = myListIter.getViewObject();
            NavigatableRowIterator myItemList = myListIter.getNavigatableRowIterator();
            Row row = myItemList.first();
            Object[] val = row.getAttributeValues();
            ViewRowSetImpl vor = (ViewRowSetImpl)val[row.getAttributeCount() - 1];
            vor.setNamedWhereClauseParam("bnum", new BigDecimal(1));
            vor.executeQuery();
        }

  • Pass parameter from jsf to view object query

    Hi,
    i have requirement where user id is captured when user logs in in a session bean.How do I pass this parameter to bind variable in query?
    thanks,
    Mat

    Amit's second link : Setting bind variable for a view object
    should hold answers for you.
    Ypu can also visit : http://groundside.com/blog/DuncanMills.php?title=adf_executing_code_on_page_entry_1_servi&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
    The general idea is this :
    Get the username (you mentioned portal, so after portal authenticates the user is the username available in a session scoped managed bean ? You would need to access this somehow because your query needs it., preferrably by EL)
    create am AM method to set the bind parameter to the Vo and execute it. The method is automatically exposed to the DataControl.
    Create a method binding in your page def for the method. in the parameters for the method, use the EL to get the username, eg: #{sessionScope.frameworkBean.username} (you could also create a binding for executeWithParams, but I hav'nt done this in a while and dont remember the exact process )
    Now create an executable for the method binding you created. (the executable ensure that this method is called at pageload, and set you refresh condition appropriately)
    Go to the properties

  • Decode statement in Select line of a View Object Query

    I attempted to create a view object in expert mode with a customized query.
    The query had a decode statement in the select line of the query. The view
    object compiled correctly but gave an error when run.
    ex: select .... decode(CrpSchools.SCHOOLS_ID,null,CrpCustSchools.SCHOOL_NAME,CrpSchools.SCHOOL_NAME) SCHOOL_VALUE, ...
    from ....
    where ....
    The error was that school_value does not exist in the statement. I got the error when
    doing a vo.executeQuery().
    When I removed the decode statement everything worked correctly. Does anyone know if
    the decode statement cannont be used in the select line of a query in a view object?
    Or maybe I was linking the query column (SCHOOLS_ID) up to the view attribute (SCHOOL_VALUE) incorrectly in the
    Attribute Mappings tab of the VO wizard?

    There should be no problem using a DECODE() statement, provided that you've aliases the column as you have done.
    At design time, if you click on the (Test) button, does your query test ok?
    Are you by chance applying a custom where clause at runtime?
    If so, are you saying:
    setWhereClause("yourtable.column_alias = ?";
    or are you doing:
    setWhereClause("column_alias = ?";
    for an expert-mode query, you'll need to use the latter syntax.

  • ADF View Object query to use Oracle  LONG data type

    Hi,
    I'm using a view object that uses Oracle LONG data type.The following exception is thrown
    *"java.sql.SQLException: Stream has already been closed"* and it is not fetching the correct data.
    I have searched in many forums,they suggested to use LOB instead of LONG as LONG is deprecated. But in my case I can't avoid using LONG as some of my legacy applications using the same DB.
    Please suggest me a way
    Thanks in Advance
    Felix

    Thanks for your reply Arun,
    I have solved this problem using the solution suggested by this blog [AskTom-Link|http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:839298816582]
    In the above blog link,they have suggested to convert Long to Varchar by functions and asked to use this function in the column.
    Thank you all guys who have seen this post.

  • Doing queries in view objects that do not include primary keys of entities

    Is it possible to create a view object based on an entity that doesn't include the primary key from that entity object. For instance I want to do something like "select distinct (attrib1) from sometable" and obviously attrib1 is not the primary key for that table so I get an error that says, you must include a primary key in your view object. How would I implement something like this in bc4j?

    You just need to go into expert mode and create the statement directly with the relevant SQL
    e.g. in 9.0.3:
    Context Menu -> New View Object
    Select no entities in Step 2
    Next through to Step 5 of the wizard and enter you expert mode SQL there. E.g. Select distinct deptno from emp
    Assign the new VO to the AM data model and away you go.

  • Execute the same query twice, get two different results

    I have a query that returns two different results:
    Oracle Version : 10.2.0.1.0
    I am running the following query on the Oracle server in SQL*Plus Worksheet.
    SELECT COUNT(*)
    FROM AEJOURNAL_S1
    WHERE CHAR_TIME BETWEEN TO_DATE('12-AUG-10 01:17:39 PM','DD-MON-YY HH:MI:SS AM') AND
    TO_DATE('13-AUG-10 14:17:34','DD-MON-YY HH24:MI:SS')
    AND DESC2 LIKE '%'
    AND DESC1 LIKE '%'
    AND DESC2 LIKE '%'
    AND ETYPE LIKE '%'
    AND MODULE LIKE '%'
    AND LEVELL = '11-WARNING'
    ORDER BY ORDD DESC;
    The very first time the query is run, it will return a count of 259. The next time the query is run, lets say, 10 seconds later, it will return a count of 260. The above query is exemplary of the kind of thing I'm trying to do. It seems like the more fields filtered against '%', the more random the count return becomes. Sometime you have to execute the query three or four times before it levels out to a consistent number.
    I'm using '%' as the default for various fields, because this was the easiest thing to do to support a data-driven Web interface. Maybe I have to 'dynamically' build the entire where clause, instead of just parameterizing the elements and having default '%'. Anyway, to eliminate the web interface for the purpose of troubleshooting the above query was run directly on the Oracle server.
    This query runs against a view. The view does a transpose of data from a table.
    Below is the view AEJOURNAL_S1
    SELECT
    CHAR_TIME,
    CHAR_INST,
    BATCH_ID,
    MIN(DECODE(CHAR_ID,6543,CHAR_VALUE)) AS ORDD,

    FROM CHAR_BATCH_DATA
    WHERE subbatch_id = 1774
    GROUP BY CHAR_TIME, CHAR_INST, BATCH_ID
    So... why does the query omit rows on the first execution? Is this some sort of optimizer issue. Do I need to rebuild indexes? I looked at the indexes, they are all valid.
    Thanks for looking,
    Dan

    DanIn fact you the first time you ran the query the data has been retrived from disk to memory , in the second time the data is already in memory so the respnse time should be faster ,but if you chagne any condition or column or letter case the optimizer will do the first step (data will be retrived from disk to memory )

  • OBI Nested Subqueries does not execute before main query

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.6.0. I am trying to create a report that uses 4 different analyses. I will refer to them as analysis A, B, C & D.
    Analysis A & B have the normal filters that will be updated by a prompt on a dashboard.
    Analysis C has filters updated by the same dashboard prompt, but it also uses analysis A & B as part of its filter.
    Analysis D has filters updated by the same dashboard prompt, but it also uses analysis C as part of its filters. This is the analysis that shows the final results on the dashboard.
    After selecting the prompts and running the queries, I get no results from analysis D. However, if I hard-code the values for the filter for each analysis (A-D) and run analysis D, I get the results. I cannot get the results via the dashboard. It seems that the filters for the other analyses (A, B & C) are not updated before analysis D is executed.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the suggestion but AndFilter is a subclass of AllFilter. So it is probably already an AllFilter behind the covers. If my problem is caused by a Coherence bug, I doubt that the bug is in constructing an AllFilter from an AndFilter. I doubt an AllFilter would solve the problem. I know the custom extractor suggested by robvarga would work. I just have to try it to see if the code is as readable with it.
    Edited by: user1396441 on Sep 21, 2011 1:01 PMThe only difference in how the code would look like is that you would have to wrap the method name string into the construction of the extractor:
    instead of
    new WhateverFilter("methodName", ...) you would have something like
    new WhateverFilter(new NullOnErrorReflectionExtractor("methodName"), ...) If the filter is a custom filter, then you can even hide the explicit extractor instantiation inside the constructor of the filter.
    Take care to use the extractor not only in creating the filter but also at creating the index otherwise indexed queries would not find the index. And of course the index would have to properly implement equals(), hashCode(), and the serialization methods belonging to your service configuration (ideally both POF and ExternalizableLite).

  • Execute View Obj query in memory mode

    I use Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
    I have a table upon a filtered View Obj on my page, when I add a new row to View Obj, this row showed in table whereas it must not appear(according to the where clause of View Obj).
    As I've understood I should use a View Criteria and set Query Execution Mode to: ' in memory' or 'both' , but I just want to use a View Obj. How can I  do that?
    Habib

    Hi,
    If you want to get In-memory filter.
    You should do like
    RowMatch rm = new RowMatch("X=2"); // some clause just like where-clause
    vo.setQueryMode(ViewObject.QUERY_MODE_SCAN_VIEW_ROWS);
    vo.setRowMatch(rm);
    vo.executeQuery();
    Thanks

  • 2.1 EA1: Query Builder does not update View Results query

    When using the Query Builder, if you click onto the View Results tab to see the current query results, then go back to the "Select Columns" or "Create Where Clause" tabs to change the query, the "View Results" tab still shows the results of the original query even if none of the tables or columns from the original query exist. Clicking the Run Report button or setting a refresh interval has no effect.
    On a further note, the query builder still is not reentrant, in that you can't select (highlight a portion of or position the cursor within) a query and open the query builder for that query to graphically make modifications.

    Sentinel,
    The issue is known and is listed in the known issues in the release notes for the early adopter. We hope to have this addressed for production.
    The re-entrant query builder is still on our list of things to do. We plan to rewrite the Query Builder and address a number of the requests related to this feature. I'm hoping to make it a priority for the next release.
