Query Design Strategies - servicing multiple reports from a single query

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good web resrouces (articles and such) to assist with Query Design Strategies. What I am specifically looking to do is replace multiple reports from the previous system with just views of a single query. So I was looking at grouping the existing reports that we are replacing into queries and creating views for each report.
The catch is that we will only be utilizing web reporting for report distribution, so we need to:
1. Use views as DataProviders to web templates
2. Broadcast views to users as links where they can see that particular view
Is this possible and does anyone have some info on how to do this?

Lets say that 10 broadcasted reports all could use the same query but each in a different navigational state.
1. Can you navigate the query and save as a view and then set up a brodacast rule for that view?
2. Can a DataProvider in a web template be a view?
3. Can the BI Launcher iView take a view name in place of a query?

  • Creating multiple reports from one query

    Hello Everyone
    I are designing crystal reports where 1 query is built for 1 report / 1 sub-report. To improve overall efficiency of reports, I am trying to design multiple reports/ subreports from the same query. All the sub-reports belong to the parent report and they are very similar to each other.
    For example: in Webintelligence, we can just create 1 data provider and pull multiple reports from it and display it in multiple tabs.
    Can we do the same thing in Crystal reports??
    Please advice.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    If you are using WEBI then you have access to BOE. Create a Universe and publish it to the Repository and then you can use it as your data source.
    But I think what you are asking is how to query the DB once? Not possible, each subreport will run the query each time it's viewed.
    What you may want to do is create a Stored Procedure and get all of you info into one data collection and not use subreports, use grouping to emulate subreports. As an Example ....
    You may want to create a case in Service Market Place since you have BOE and work with a Report Design Rep to help you work out the best solution for you.

  • Crystal reports - Create Report from SAP Bex Query

    I have installed the Crystal reports 2008 for a trial period and the sap integration kit. I have created a new report from a sap query and I am trying to format the report. I would like the columns headings be similar to Bex query - Current Month Jan 2009 which includes the selection parameter of month. I have tried with no sucess. Any help will be appreciated

    Ingo
    in crystal reports the variables are available in the field explorer. However when I drag the date selection to the report (in design mode) i get the foloowing ?[0I_CALMO], but when I execute the report I don't get any values. I also tried to create a formula but could not access the parameter for month year. Is there documentation on how to do this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi
    While creating a report from BW SAP Query, I get the following error.

    Hello Garett,
    I've the same problem and have tried now to get the data with MDX-Query. The error message below appears:
    'No RFC-authorization for function group  /Crystal/MDX for User ...'
    So it seems to be a authorization problem. Which special authorization must be assigned to Crystal users in SAP BI?

  • Multiple databases in a single query

    I need to query multiple databases in a single query.
    e.g.
    Database d1 contains table t1 with column id
    Database d2 contains table t2 with column id
    I need a query like
    SELECT * FROM t1, t2 WHERE t1.id = t2.id;
    is this possible in jdbc? if yes can anyone help with some sample code?
    thanks,
    Ashish Saraf

    It is not possible using the JDBC API to query tables in two or more databases using a single query. The reason is that a JDBC Connection is made to a single data source.
    However, some databases support the idea of federations or linked tables. What you do is inside the database manager link or federate a table that is present in another DBMS. Then, pose a single JDBC query to the one DBMS which will have its own table and links to the external tables.
    Another approach is to use a special JDBC driver with a built-in integration engine that will perform a query across multiple databases. In effect, the system poses separate queries to the different databases and integrates and joins the data together for you automatically on the client-side. That is much easier than doing it yourself in code, but that is also possible for simple queries.
    As part of my research program, we have released a shareware version of the UnityJDBC driver that can query multiple databases using a single SQL query. For more information, see:

    Hello,
    I have a way to do this, but it would take some hand coding on your part. If you feel comfortable hand writing php code and doing manual database calls, specificaly database INSERT calls you should be fine.
    Create a custom form using the ADDT Custom Form Wizard that has all the rows and fields you need. This may take a bit if you are adding the ability for up to 20 rows, as per your diagram of the form area. The nice thing about using ADDT to create the form is that you can setup the form validation at the same time. Leave the last step in the Custom Form Wizard blank. You can add a custom database call here, but I would leave it blank.
    Next, under ADDT's Forms Server Behaviors, select Custom Trigger. At the Basic tab, you enter your custom php code that will be executed. Here you are going to want to put your code that will check if a value has been entered in the form and then do a database INSERT operation on the Stock_table with that row. The advanced tab lets you set the order of operations and the name of the Custom Trigger. By default, it is set to AFTER. This means that the Custom Trigger will get executed AFTER the form data is processed by the Custom Form Transaction.
    I usually just enter TEST into the "Basic" tab of the Custom Trigger. Then set my order of operations in the "Advanced" tab and close the Custom Trigger. Then I go to the code view for that page in Dreamweaver and find the Custom Trigger function and edit the code manually. It's much easier this way because the Custom Trigger wizard does not show you formatting on the code, and you don't have to keep opening the Wizard to edit and test your code.
    Your going to have to have the Custom Trigger fuction do a test on the submitted form data. If data is present, then INSERT into database. Here's a basic example of what you need to do:
    In your code view, the Custom Trigger will look something like this:
    function Trigger_Custom(&$tNG) {
    if($tNG->getColumnValue("Item_1")) {
    $item1 = $tNG->getColumnValue("Item_1");
    $textbox1_1 = $tNG->getColumnValue("Textbox_1");
    $textbox1_2 = $tNG->getColumnValue("Textbox_2");
    $textbox1_3 = $tNG->getColumnValue("Textbox_3");
    $date1 = $tNG->getColumnValue("Textbox_3");
    $queryAdd = "INSERT INTO Stock_table
    (item, Qty_In, Qty_Out, Balance, Date) VALUES($item1, $textbox1_1, $textbox1_2, $textbox1_3, $date1)"
    $result = mysql_query($queryAdd) or die(mysql_error());
    This code checks to see if the form input field named Item_1 is set. If so, then get the rest of the values for the first item and insert them into the database. You would need to do this for each row in your form. So the if you let the customer add 20 rows, you would need to check 20 times to see if the data is there or write the code so that it stops once it encounters an empty Item field. To exit a Custom Trigger, you can return NULL; and it will jump out of the function. You can also throw custom error message out of triggers, but this post is already way to long to get into that.
    $tNG->getColumnValue("Item_1") is used to retrieve the value that was set by the form input field named Item_1. This field is named by the Custom Form Wizard when you create your form. You can see what all the input filed names are by looking in the code view for something like:
    // Add columns
    $customTransaction->addColumn("Item_1", "STRING_TYPE", "POST", "Item_1");
    There will be one for each field you created with the Custom Form Wizard.
    Unfortunately, I don't have an easy way to do what you need. Maybe there is a way, but since none of the experts have responded, I thought I would point you in a direction. You should read all you can about Custom Triggers in the ADDT documentation/help pdf to give you more detailed information about how Custom Triggers work.
    Hope this helps.

         yr, mnth, region;I wouldn't recommend storing your data for year / month in 2 columns like that unless you have a really good reason. I would store it as a date column and add a check constraint to ensure that the date is always the first of the month, then format it out as you wish to the client.

  • Multiple Reports inside one Single Report

    Post Author: maximus85
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hi....I'm having this problem of having multiple reports inside one single report. Basically what i wanted to built is a Dashboard that contains 4 main subjects:i)Sales   -    Contains graph that can be drill down for further detailsii)Internal Process   -  Contains tables that can be drill downiii)Profit/Lossiv)HRAs far as i know, since all four are of different fact table data, they cannot be all thrown inside one single report to be built on. So i came out with using subreports instead for each components and then finally putting them all together as subreport inside the main report(Dashboard).However, i just realized that by doing that, whenever i clicked on the reports that i wanted to drill down with, it will prompt that particular report that i clicked into a new page, and then from there only i can perform drill down.Is there anyway to enable me to straight away drill down the Sales and Internal Process reports from the main reports(Dashboard) instead of having to click twice as that will be unnecessary right?Or mayb if there's another better ways to do what I have to do? Please do advise and suggest......Thanks alot.......

    hi chack,
    doesnt matter or preferrably both, as long as i can export all the reports in 1 page into 1 excel, or 1 pdf.

  • Merge statement - update multiple columns from a single sub-select

    Is it possible to write in 10gR2, a MERGE statement, with UPDATE for multiple columns from a single sub_select?
    like this:
    MERGE INTO tableA
    using ( select * from temp) tmp
    on( tableA. col1 = tmp.col1)
    when matched then
    update set  ( tableA.col5,
                       tableA.col6,
                       tableA.col7) = ( select sum(col2), sum(col3), sum(col5)
                                                                                 from tableX
                                                                                where tableX.col1 = tableA.col1...)

    Hi,
    The USING clause is not a sub-query, so it can't reference columns from tables that are not in it.
    Include tableA in the USING clause if you really need to refer to it there. (It's not obvious that you do.)
    As always, it helps if you post:
    (1) The version of Oracle (and any other relevant software) you're using
    (2) A little sample data (just enough to show what the problem is) from all the relevant tables
    (3) The results you want from that data (In the case of a DML statement, such as MERGE, this will be the state of the tables when everything is finished.)
    (4) Your best attempt so far (formatted)
    (5) The full error message (if any), including line number
    Executable SQL statements (like "CREATE TABLE AS ..." or "INSERT ..." statements) are best for (2).
    If you can present your problem using commonly available tables (for example, tables in scott schema, or views in the data dictionary), then you can omit (2).
    Formatted tabular output is okay for (3).

    We have recenlty moved this site to a new server. Could this

    Any light in this direction is appreciated, thanks.
    Here's the code:

    There doesn't seem to be anything that seems wrong with the
    code. It might have something to do with the Max Pooled Statements

    could just as easily have something to do with a setting on the

  • PLD report from user defined query

    Hello experts,
    Is possible to create a new PLD report from a user defined query ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards
    Andrea

    Hi,
    It is possible on Query Print Layout Design(QPLD) so Try to create QPLD.
    Check this link u can get presentation slide form SAP.
    [Query Pld from SAP site]
    First you can try to create the Query report with UDF filed.
    for example,
    SELECT T0.DocNum, T0.DocDate, T0.CardName, T0.CheckSum, T0.U_UDF1, T0.U_UDF2, T0.U_UDF3
    FROM OVPM T0 WHERE T0.DocNum>='%0' and T0.DocNum<='%1' ORDER BY T0.DocNum
    Steps to Develop a User Report in QPLD:-
    If you save your Query in Query Manager. Next you can do this,
    ->> Choose the Query Manager on Top Menu.
    ->> Open the Qeury Manager Window.
    ->> Select the specific Query report. and
    ->> Click the Create Report button in Bottom on Qeury Manager Window.
    ->> then, Open the Create User Report Window and Select the User Report(System) in Base Template.
    If you Change the QPLD name.
    ->> Click OK.
    ->> (or) If your Query Report have parameter. Click OK.
    Now your Query report was Created QPLD.
    Note: All SELECT statement fields will be Stored and Display in Repetetive Area1. and
    Parameter Fields are in Repetetive Area0 so you can Try to Copy & Paste the Field_ID's to Repetetive Area Header (or) Repetetive Area Footer.
    Example:
    ->> Open the QPLD and Goto Field index Window, then
    ->> Select the Repetetive Area Header & Repetetive Area Footer ncrease the Height on Properties Window.
    ->> Create the Formula fields in Repetetive Area Header & Repetetive Area Footer.
    ->> Which Field you want to print in header or footer. Drag the Field ID(in Repetetive Area) Copy & Paste to Formula Field.
    Can you see to your Query PLD? do this,
    ->> Choose the Tools on Top Menu.
    ->> Click the Queries. -> Query Print Layout...
    ->> Open the Query Print Layout Window.
    ->> Click Reports Tab and Double the Template (Requrie QPLD) on QPLD Window.
    ->> Customize and Save the QPLD.
    Can you see your Query PLD Preveiw and Print? do this,
    ->> Choose the Tools on Top Menu.
    ->> Click the Queries. -> Query Print Layout...
    ->> Open the Query Print Layout Window.
    ->> Select Template in Report Tab on QPLD Window.
    ->> Click Print Preview on Top menu.
    Close this thread if issue solved
