Query is not using the cache

We are on 7.3 and I have been doing some performance tuning.  I've noticed that even though a query is in the query aggregate in the cache monitor when I run it for the 1st time every morning it does not use the cache.  I traced it from ST05 and verified this.   However when I  run it the second time during the day it uses the cache.  The query cache mode is set to 5.  do you know why it does this?  I am using the exact same parameters when I run the query every time.

You need to use following process of process chain: "Attribute change run (ATTRIBCHAN)". This process needs to be incorporated into your process chains which loads data into provider on top of which your query is based.
See following links on topic how to build it:

  • Some Crystal Reports are not using the Cache Server

Hi...we are currently running BOE XI R2 SP2.  I setup a server group with a Cache Server and a Page Server.  In the CMC, I set this cache server to keep reports cached for 15 minutes.  On the Process tab of some reports, I specifically set the report to use this new server group.  On some of the reports this works as expected.  For others, it does not appear to be since the cache folder's Date Modified date does not change.  So far the only similarity between the reports that do not use cache is that these reports have sub-reports.  Has anyone experienced this before?  If so, how did you resolve it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Rich,
the connectivity on the Designer an don the BusinessObjects system is identical. Is region the only characteristic being used in the report ? which connectivity did you use in Crystal Reports ?

  • Report not using the cache entry

    Hi
I have created a report in which one of the measure is derived uses Evaluate function, when report is run for the first time to fetch data its taking less time (say 10 seconds).
Though without changing any parameter if the report is run for the second time by the same user its taking more time (around 30 to 40 seconds).
    Any suggestions please
    Thanks!

Are you sure report results are being cached?
As far as I know, using the EVALUATE function prevents OBIEE from caching the report.
Set the loglevel of the user to 5 or above, log in, run the report and check the NQQuery.log file
    Cheers,
    Daniel

Aman....I faced this issue with query and indexes was need rebuildWhat issue Osama-that query wasn't using index and after rebuild it did start using it? Not just that this reply is wrong , this is OP has mentioned that he has done already. Please note that index rebuild is not the answer when the query is not using the index. There can be many reasons behind it. Have a look at Richard Foote's blog where he explains all of this in a very detailed way and in many posts.

  • Query views are not using OLAP cache

    Hi,
I am trying to pre-fill the OLAP cache with data from a query so as to improve the performance of query views.
I have read several documents on the topic, such as “How to… Performance Tuning with the OLAP Cache” (http://www.sapadvisors.com/resources/Howto...PerformanceTuningwiththeOLAPCache$28pdf$29.pdf)
As far as I can see, I have followed the instructions and guidelines in detail on how to set up the cache and pre-fill it with data. However, when I run the query views they never use the cache. For example, point 3.4 in the abovementioned document does not correspond with my results.
I would like some input on what I am doing wrong:
    1. In RSRT I have Cache mode = 1 for the specific query.
    2. The query has no variables, but the following restrictions (in filter): 0CALMONTH = 09.2007, 10.2007, 11.2008 and 12.2007.
    3. I have one query view with the restriction 0CALMONTH = 10.2007, 11.2008 and 12.2007.
    4. I have a second query view, which builds on the same query as the first query view. This second query view has the restriction 0CALMONTH = 11.2008 and 12.2007.
    5. There are no variables in the query.
    6. I run the query.
    7. I run the first query view, and the second query view immediately after.
    8. I check ST03 and RSRT and see that cache has not been used for either of the query views.
Looking at point 3.4 in the abovementioned document, I argue that the three criteria have been fulfilled:
    1. Same query ID
    2. The first query view is a superset of the second query view
    3. 0CALMONTH is a part of the drill-down of the first query view.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with my set-up?
    Kind regards,
    Thor

You need to use following process of process chain: "Attribute change run (ATTRIBCHAN)". This process needs to be incorporated into your process chains which loads data into provider on top of which your query is based.
See following links on topic how to build it:

  • Why is this query not using the index?

    check out this query:-
    SELECT CUST_PO_NUMBER, HEADER_ID, ORDER_TYPE, PO_DATE
    FROM TABLE1
    WHERE STATUS = 'N'
    and here's the explain plan:-
    1
    2     -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    3     | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)|
    4     -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    5     | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 2735K| 140M| 81036 (2)|
    6     |* 1 | TABLE ACCESS FULL| TABLE1 | 2735K| 140M| 81036 (2)|
    7     -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    8
9     Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
    10     ---------------------------------------------------
    11
    12     1 - filter("STATUS"='N')
There is already an index on this column, as is shown below:-
         INDEX_NAME INDEX_TYPE     UNIQUENESS     TABLE_NAME     COLUMN_NAME     COLUMN_POSITION
    1     TABLE1_IDX2 NORMAL     NONUNIQUE     TABLE1      STATUS     1
    2     TABLE1_IDX NORMAL     NONUNIQUE     TABLE1     HEADER_ID     1
So why is this query not using the index on the 'STATUS' Column?
I've already tried using optimizer hints and regathering the stats on the table, but the execution plan still remains the same, i.e. it still uses a FTS.
I have tried this command also:-
    exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats('GECS','GEPS_CS_SALES_ORDER_HEADER',method_opt=>'for all indexed columns size auto',cascade=>true,degree=>4);
inspite of this, the query is still using a full table scan.
The table has around 55 Lakh records, across 60 columns. And because of the FTS, the query is taking a long time to execute. How do i make it use the index?
    Please help.

If the cardinality is really as skewed as that, you may want to look at putting a histogram on the column (sounds like it would be in order, and that you don't have one).
    create table skewed_a_lot
    as
       select
          case when mod(level, 1000) = 0 then 'N' else 'Y' end as Flag,
          level as col1
       from dual connect by level <= 1000000;
    create index skewed_a_lot_i01 on skewed_a_lot (flag);
exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(user, 'SKEWED_A_LOT', cascade => true, method_opt => 'for all indexed columns size auto');Is an example.

  • WebI:Creating a minus query from data providers not using the same universe

Hi there. A client of ours wishes to use Combined Query on multiple universes in the same WebI report. So far, I have heard it is not feasible in WebI. I know it is possible in DeskI. Even the sub-query option is limited to just one universe in WebI. So, I am stuck.
Is there a workaround to creating a minus query from data providers not using the same universe in WebI?

    Hello Amit,
what are the Datasources ? Usually when you create a Sub Query you can choose a seperate Universe.
Maybe if you only see one Universe you only have the rights for this Universe ?!.

  • New Tab Page - thumbnails are not using the files from cache folder, but they want a connection to their origin website.

    Hi there,
each time I visit a website, FireFox saves a thumbnail of all these sites for the "New Tab Page". Those thumbnails are cached in the 'thumbnails' Folder . That's so far ok for me.
    The problem is:
Every time if I use the "New Tab Page" (...after shutdown & reopening the browser and only with 'mousehoover' on any thumbnail) all the thumbnails on that page don't use the cached thumbnails from the local profile folder.
    This means:
Instead of using the cached thumbnail-files all(!) these thumbnails dials to their origin websites without(!) a mouseclick on any of these thumbnails (...see jpg pictures) !
I'm using the "Clear history when Firefox closes" with the following options:
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.downloads - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.formdata - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.history - false(!)
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.passwords - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings - false(!)
So, i can't believe that this homedialing of pinned and unpinned thumbnails should be a normal function.
    1. Screenshot: thumbnails in the New Tab Page
    2. Screenshot: the same thumbnails in the Cache Folder "thumbnails" (...also they are there after shutdown of Firefox)
    3. Screenshot: Dialing to the origin websites (...after restart of Firefox)
The Browser Version is Firefox ESR 31.2.0 and in the installation are no Add-ons, which are - for example - prefetching linked websites.
I would like to use the "New Tab Page" without 'homedialing', so the question is:
How can I force the thumbnails to use the cached thumbnail-files ?
    or
How can i disable the 'loading of content from their origin websites' already on mousehoover ?

There is a preload pref available that you could try to disable on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *browser.newtab.preload = false
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Hi DH, sorry for not being clear.
It works when I create the connection from that web part that you want to be connected with the Query String Filter Web part. So let's say you created a web part page. Then you could connect a parameterized Excel Workbook to an Excel Web Access Web Part
(or a Performance Point Dashboard etc.) and you insert it into your page and add
a Query String Filter Web Part . Then you can connect them by editing the Query String Filter Web Part but also by editing the Excel Web Access Web Part. And only when I created from the latter it worked
with multiple values for one parameter. If you have any more questions let me know. See you, Ingo

  • Creating Links to Object but not using the record id field in the web add

    Hello,
Im trying to create a link between OnDemand an another system but the other system is the source system so it will be creating the HTML Link based on values the user selectes.
What i am trying to do is create a link link the following:
    https://secure-ausomxdsa.crmondemand.com/OnDemand/user/ServiceRequestDetail?ServiceRequestDetailForm.Id=ADSA-73J818&ocTitle=484426-429198955&OMTGT=ServiceRequestDetailForm&OMTHD=ServiceRequestDetailNav&ocEdit=Y&OCTYPE=&ocTitleField=SR+Number
but without "ServiceRequestDetailForm.Id=ADSA-73J818" at the end i want something like
    https://secure-ausomxdsa.crmondemand.com/OnDemand/user/ServiceRequestDetail?ServiceRequestDetailForm.SRNumber=484426-429198955&ocTitle=484426-429198955&OMTGT=ServiceRequestDetailForm&OMTHD=ServiceRequestDetailNav&ocEdit=Y&OCTYPE=&ocTitleField=SR+Number
As this is not using the ID field, Is this possible can someone point me in the right direction on how i should start?

    Hi Jonno,
It is not possible to use links to object without Id field. U can pass other values but Id is important- based on that only OnDemand identifies the record.
So what i would suggest is
    1) Either use Id along with SR Number in ur source system.
Since what i understood is u are not creating new SR so u have the Id of the SR. Along with SRNumber save Id also in the external system
    2) Or use Webservices to query with SR Number for the Id then use it in the link.
    Hope this helps.

    Lemu

  • Simple SQL Query is not using Bitmap index

    Hello to All,
We are having Oracle9i Database and using it for the datawarehouse purpose.
I have created the bitmap index on calledinfo column and I am running the following simple query which takes serveral hours to complete:
    select * from ssp.ssp_2006_q4 where calledinfo='799992515f'
    OR
select calledinfo from ssp.ssp_2006_q4 where calledinfo='799992515f'
I don't know why it is not using the bitmap index: Can anybody help me here?
    Thanks in Advance
    Hashim

I know why and everyone that has read Jonathan Lewis' book on the CBO knows why.
Why? Because the CBO thinks the cost of using your index will be higher than the cost of ignoring it.
To see what Oracle is thinking run an explain plan using DBMS_XPLAN for create the output and then rerun it with a hint forcing index usage.
It is a mistake to believe that an index will always make things better. Issues of cardinality, clustering factor, etc. are very important.
Post the explain plans if you have any questions about what they show:

The cost in the explain plan is very high. The table PathData* has 42710366 records and there is a bitmap index on the flnumber_ and fldate* columns. But the query above does not use the indexes. The other tables in the list are fine as their respective PK and indexes are used but the table PathData* is going for a "Table Access by Local Index Rowid". dont know what it means but the cost for this is 7126 which is high. I cant figure out why is the query not using the bitmap indexes for this table.
Pls let me know what should be done.???
