Query on OBIEE users in OBIEE?

Hi,
is it possible to query what users are set up in OBIEE from within OBIEE, does the security sit in any kind of SQL source that I could point the repository at??
My wish is to enable users to be able to message each other from within OBIEE, using writeback, but I do not want freetext input of usernames or the messages will never be received in all likelihood....

Not a bad little project though. Have you got RPD authentication or external table or something else ?
If you had external table it would be easy enough to expose the users, even LDAP can be exposed through a DB pl/SQL package you could call as a datasource (and report it back therefore).
The RPD cant be queried as such, you could nqUdmlGen.exe the RPD into a file everynight and scrape the user accounts out of it (then do what you want with it, ie load into a db table etc).
Just some thoughts.....

Have the SMTP server configured by your admin and create agent privilege given to your role. Then Schedule an Agents to yourself/Testuser with the report to be sent to external user as its Content. Set up the Delivery Profile of the recipient. In the set up for email device - delivery profile specify the external email address. This might be useful

Physical Query in OBIEE 10g vs OBIEE 11g

Hi Everyone,
We're in the middle of an OBIEE 10g to an OBIEE 11.1.1.6.4 upgrade and as part of our assembly testing we were planning on comparing the physical query generated for a report generated in obiee 10g vs the physical query for a report in obiee 11g.
After a couple reports we noticed that the query structure in 11g is completely different than the query structure in 10g. The reports still generated the same data in 10g vs 11g. So my question is:
1) is it worth while (or necessary) to do a physical query comparison for an obiee 10g to 11g upgrade? or is validating the front-end report data & drill down/interactions adequate?
2) what are some general reasons why a query generates differently in obiee 10g vs 11g?

Pl post details of OS versions, exact database versions (to 4 digits) and init.ora parameters of the 10g and 11g databases. Have statistics been gathered after the upgrade ?

Agent applying specific filter for each non-obiee user receipt

I have a problem with a sales dashboard that Office need to deliver for non-obiee users (e-mails) in regionals. I'm using SA System solution to dynamically send e-mail to 220 receipts.
I increase the rule below:
Each receipt is responsible for one or more Business Strategic Unit (bits of regions of country) and this association is implemented in a database table, like this:
* BSU is a Dimension in Sales Fact

How can I implement these filters solutions in OBIEE Agents?

Sending OBIEE reports to non OBIEE users who are external to SMTP server

Would you please help me how you diid send reports to non OBIEE users (external mails)?
I have configured the mail server and able to send reports to internal mails.
I have followed the following steps as mensioned in all blogs:
1. I created a d table called SA_SYSTEM_USER with default columns as mensioned.
2. Imported into Physical Layer
3. Created a view for Dummy table(Dual) with 'DUMMY' column.
4. Joined these tow tables DUMMY fact and SA_SYSTEM_USER as Dimension on DUMMY join Email.
5. Renamed columnsfor Presentaion table as mensioned in Bolgs.
6. Restarted the servers.
7. I noticed the system mail and system delivery profile created with only one email id(where are the other email ids from my SA_SYSTEM_USER table?)
8. But as written in blogs it never sends emails to external mails e.g. [email protected](this is existng mail in SA_SYSTEM_USER)
I am in need of urgent solution please some one help me out....

I followed every single step mensioned in the link you have given.
When save the iBot there was no response.
Would yu please clarify these doubts:
1. Do I need to have any specific settings on our SMTP mail server to send emails to external email-ids ????
2. I can see only one email account appears in My Account-->Active Profile. where I loaded 2 email accounts in my User table. Does it matters while I am choosing 'Specific Devices' on 'Destinations' Tab while deselecting 'Ineractive Dashboard' and 'Active Delivery Profile'?
3. By default the report is going to that mail account (internal only) if I select Destinations--> Active Delivery Profile.
4. As mmy requirement is to send emails to the users external to organization( external to our local SMTP server distribution list), I entered my Gmail account to test.
When save the iBot there was no response.
5. Do I need to set filter on specifc user on a conditional request to send e-mai to that usel??
6. Is there any solution for this please? Thsi is a must requiremnet.
My Thought (I am not sure) : 1. I create those user IDs on SMTP server
2. send reports to this user list.
3. From these user ID mail inbox of SMTP server if possible: forward those reports to external email IDs.

Lock OBIEE User

Hi,
I have some questions about locking OBIEE user (native user):
1. Can we lock OBIEE user from the admin tool or from other place? Usually, if I don't want a user to log in, I have to delete that user.
2. Can we set that when a user enter 3 consecutive incorrect password, then the account is locked automatically (like the one in the Oracle database).

Some people have posted some helpful answers but they have not answered your questions.
1. No, you can't lock a user in the RPD. The best you could do is to change the user's password which you could script via UDML.
2. This is not possible in the current version.

I am currently working on the proposal for a Financial BI reporting project for a company in the UK and would like to know the advantages of using ( ESSBASE + OBIEE Dashboards) solution over (OBIEE ADMIN TOOL + OBIEE Dashboards).
As the project has complex data model the client is insisting on Essbase; will ESSBASE give me more flexibility over BI Admin tool in data modeling and cube designing?

Hi,
OBIEE has infinitely superior reporting functionality to Essbase.
Essbase is absolutely excellent if you want to give your users data input and intuitive drill features. For financial projects Essbase is excellent for budgeting, planning, forecasting etc where you want a good deal of user input on a flexible and intuitive basis for data modelling from a large end user audience.
Essbase is a highly complimentary product for OBIEE as OBIEE fills its reporting needs, modelling Essbase cubes in the repository is brilliantly fast and Essbase' cubes create things like dimension hierarchies purely by dragging physical cubes into the business model layer.
11g features like asymmetrical drilling, ragged hierarchies etc could have been built with Essbase in mind - and MOLAP was definitely built with Essbase in mind.
I would recommend looking at the Oracle by Example for Hyperion (which has Essbase at its core) for a feel of what Essbase can do for you.

How to use the same POWL query for multiple users

Hello,
I have defined a POWL query which executes properly. But if I map the same POWL query to 2 portal users and the 2 portal users try to access the same page simultaneously then it gives an error message to one of the users that
"Query 'ABC' is already open in another session."
where 'ABC' is the query name.
Can you please tell me how to use the same POWL query for multiple users ?
A fast reply would be highly appreciated.

Batch processing usually involves using actions you have recorded. In Action you can insert Path that can be used during processing documents. Path have some size so you may want to only process document that have the same size. Look in the Actions Palette fly-out menu for insert path. It inserts|records the current document work path into the action being worked on and when the action is played it inserts the path into the document as the current work path..

How to view a BI query with anonymous user in the portal

Cause when i try to view a query the portal always ask for authentification. And i don't want to sign with a user cause my portal is for everybody and if the user logged in it shows the roles that previously were assigned.

do you have sso configured between portal and BW server, if yes the authentication pop up should not come.
if you dont want to do sso between portal and bw server and still want to logon to BW query with anonymous user,
in you bw server go to transaction sicf and navigate to DEFAULT_HOST->SAP->BW->BEX and double click on bex node in the resulting window, log on details section provide a default userid/password
