Query on OCA 11g

Hi,
I wanted to know that, to complete OCA 11g certification Oracle recommends
     Oracle Database: SQL Fundamentals I and Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I trainings.
Is it necessary to take above trainings?
Or can I pass this exam by self study?
I am a fresher please do the needful.

You do not have to complete any training in order to become an Oracle 11G OCA.
Pass a SQL exam (normally 1Z0-051) and the Admin 1 exam (1Z0-052) and you will be granted the certification.

  • Guidance on OCA 11g

    Hi everyone,
    Google landed me down here for the the keyword OCA 10g vs OCA 11g.
    Well, I am a student and this is my first post. I did search for the word OCA 11g and read almost all the posts. I have a query and I am sorry if this has been asked already.
    I know, OCA 11g = (1z0-007 || 1z0-051 || 1z0-047) && 1z0-052. My question is which pair to go with. I am new to Oracle DB and hence I am gonna learn it from the basic anyways. Even though I am gonna take up the 11g exam I sure will be starting my preparation with the 10g.
    Can anyone tell me which one to choose among the three (1z0-007 || 1z0-051 || 1z0-047)? I really have no clue on what basis should I be choosing one.
    Thanks for your time!

    Have you checked Oracle Database 11g Administrator page? Read the exam topics of each exam, it should be helpful.
    You may go with 10g OCP DBA (two exams), and write the 11g OCP DBA upgrade exam (1 exam). By doing this, you will be Oracle 10g and 11g OCP DBA certified.

  • OCA 11g certification and version 12c release

    Hello, I have a doubt.
    I'm currently studying for OCA 11g version ( 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 ) with the release of 12c can I still take the exam for 11g ?.
    I'm new in Oracle's world, In Microsoft certifications you can take exams for the current release of a product and also for the previoss version.
    Thanks !.
    Regards.

    Yes, you can still do the 11g exams .  In fact the 12c  1Z0-062 exam is still beta and not production.

  • OCA 11g vs OCA 10g

    I have the intention to pursue OCA but I am not sure if it would be worth it to try OCA 10g or maybe try OCA11g right away. Any help would be appreciated. Is there any material already for OCA 11g that is recommended.
    Cheers

    >> Hey man where i can i get free resources for preparing for 10g or 11g OCP.your help will be really appreciated
    For your preparation tey the Student Guides/ILT (Instructor Led Training) Materials, which are developed by Oracle. These course materials are given to the students/candidates those who undergo the respective and correspondent courses from Oracle University/Any authorized Oracle Center. In general, all questions are asked in the exams from these materials topics. So, these ILTs are handy in preparing and passing the exams.
    For sure no books or materilas are availble on the net for free to prepare for OCA/OCP Exams.
    Only the free documents available place is.

  • OCA 10g OCA 11g ?

    I gained my OCA 10g certification in 2007, is there such a thing as an upgrade exam from OCA 10g > OCA 11g, or do I have to start the 11g track from scratch ?

However IMHO if you view the topics for 10g OCA and 11g OCA you will see about 75%+ commonality so its not like you have to start from scratch, more like 2/3 to 3/4 the way up the hill.
    If your final target is 11g OCP then you are obviously aware you could go 1z0-043 + 1z0-050 or 1z0-052 + 1z0-053 ..... with a hands on course being required either way. I don't wish to advise on which route would suit you best.

  • Query tuning - oracle 11g

    Delta code column is a primary key in table delta_reason_codes: DELTA_REASON_CODES_PKVersion : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
    thanks.

    I think I am getting conflicting information about how many rows are in the remote table.
    First we read that the remote table has more than 10 million records and then we read that applying this where clause WHERE a.process_dt >= TO_DATE('01/01/2010','MM/DD/YYYY')
      AND a.update_status_cd NOT IN ('P') Results in that will be too many records, more than 10 millions.What are the total number of rows in the remote table?
    How many rows match the date condition by itself?
    How many match the status code condition by itself?
    How many match the lib_code condition by itself?
    How many rows match all conditions (the number returned by the query)?
    Sorry, but I am just trying clear up any confusion here.

  • Parallel  query in Oracle 11g

    We use Oracle 11g DB on windows2008R2.
    We wrote very long and heavy SELECT SQL query usign several table join and sub-queries and it take very long time to get result.
    We did SQL statement tuning as much as we can do so far. ( I will get the Execution Plan and ADDM, etc access right)
    I today notice about Parallel query function.
    Where could I write parallel hint phrases in very long SELECT SQL query ?
    In each selected tables like below ?
    /sample in Oracle Doc/
    SELECT /*+ PARALLEL(employees 4) PARALLEL(departments 4)
           USE_HASH(employees) ORDERED */ MAX(salary), AVG(salary)
    FROM employees, departments
    WHERE employees.department_id = departments.department_id
    GROUP BY employees.department_id;

    You need to be careful with some of the examples in the docs. The example you quote includes an unnecessary join. Before considering parallel query, it should have been re-written to this:
    SELECT MAX(salary), AVG(salary)
    FROM employees
    WHERE department_id is not null
    GROUP BYdepartment_id;
    Later versions of the CBO may do this re-write for you, but it is important to understand why the SQL is inefficient before throwing parallel servers at it. Are you sure that all your joins are actually necessary? (I know you are just going to say "yes", but you might want to think about it first.)

  • Differences between OCA 10g and OCA 11g

    Hi,
    I am currently studying the OCA 10g Administration I but I have not taken the exam yet. I am also taking the SQL Expert exam but I dont think that is version specific.
    I would like to know how different or what the differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams are as I fear that 10g will be out of date soon. I am considering just taking the 11g exam even though I have only studied 10g.
    I had a look at both the syllabuses and they look pretty similar and was hoping someone could add some personal notations of their experience. I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
    I don't want to go to do OCP as I am only doing to obtain a good foundation for working on the functional side of financials.
    Thanks in advance.
    Luke

    differences are between the OCA 10g and 11g exams
    Different version different new features discussed. example : no ADR in the 10g, no invisible index in 10g, DRA etc.
    Syllabus maybe the same, but features is different.
    I suspect and hope that the major differences would come at the OCP level.
    OCP is deeper than OCA. mostly OCA cover all features of the Oracle, and the OCP discussed about more advanced technique like RMAN, ASM, Memory Management, etc. but again 10g and 11g have different features.
    That's why for 10g OCP who wants to upgrade become 11g OCP, has to follow 11g new features exam.

  • Procedure with recursive query working in 11g compiles with error in 10g

    Hi, All,
    I have a procedure that recursively selects tree-like table (with ID-ParentID relationship). Query itself works perfectly and exactly like I need in 11g and procedure containing it compiles well. But when I try to create the same procedure in 10g then I get a message that procedure compiled with error. I have no other suspicions but on the WITH part of the procedure.
    The exact query is here (destination_tariff_zones is the tree-like table which refers to itself by parent_destination_tariff_zone_id):
    + open dtzl_cur FOR
    with dtree (nm, iid, alevel, wldcard, dtzindex)
    as (select dtz.iname, dtz.iid, 0, dtz.wildcard, rcdi.iindex
    from destination_tariff_zones dtz, rating_cube_dimension_indices rcdi, rating_cube_dimensions rcd
    where dtz.parent_tariff_zone_id is null and
    dtz."rc_dimension_index_id" = rcdi.iid and
    rcdi."rc_dimension_id" = rcd.iid and
    rcd.rating_cube_id = rc_id and
    rcd.dimension_type_id = dim_type
    union all
    select dtz.iname, dtz.iid, dtree.alevel + 1,
    cast ((dtree.wldcard || dtz.wildcard) as varchar2(20)), rcdi.iindex
    from dtree, destination_tariff_zones dtz, rating_cube_dimension_indices rcdi, rating_cube_dimensions rcd
    where dtree.iid = dtz.parent_tariff_zone_id and
    dtz."rc_dimension_index_id" = rcdi.iid and
    rcdi."rc_dimension_id" = rcd.iid and
    rcd.rating_cube_id = rc_id and
    rcd.dimension_type_id = dim_type)
    select iid, nm, wldcard, dtzindex
    from dtree
    order by wldcard;+
    Is there any difference between how 11g and 10g handle WITH statements?
    Please advise.
    Thank you very much in advance,
    Max

    3. Explanation of expected output (A.K.A. "business logic")

  • Preparing for Oracle OCA 11g using an Oracle Express 10g database

    As a software application developer, I have been considering Oracle certification for a while to enhance my skill set. Unfortunately I don't have access to a commercial Oracle installation, and would like to use a free version of Oracle Express during my studies. The latest OCA courses largely focus on Oracle 11g, and it would appear that there is no free (Express) 11g database available yet.
    Could anyone please advise me whether it would be possible and practical to prepare for the 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I and 1Z0-052 Oracle Database 11g: Administration I exams using an Oracle Express 10g database instance, while accompanied by the relevant Oracle 11g study material? In other words, is the overlap between Oracle 10g and 11g sufficient that a solid understanding of 10g could allow me to successfully sit the 11g exams? Furthermore, would the Express edition of the database provide sufficient functionality to prepare for the Administration exam?

    (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1080544&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_051 says Exam 051 has been validated against Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Database 11g. Training on either version will be appropriate preparation.).
    For 1z0-052 the situation is different. Oracle 10g express edition hides some of the administration tasks ... you really need to be using 11g.
    If you dont waht Oracle 11g all over your regular machine then I would typically recommend install Oracle Enterprise Linux either on a spare machine with a dual core or HT processor and with 2GB or more of memory (eg Dell gx280 or better); or using a virtualisation solution on your current machine (ram would need to be 3GB or higher) (eg virtualbox or whatever ... though windows as a guest can have a license issue).

  • Querying ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA on 11g

    I have a Query which I am using to test if a table contains LRS data
    (If 'M' is contained in the ResultSet, this determins that it is LRS data)
    Sample Query.....
    SELECT SDO_DIMNAME
    FROM TABLE( SELECT DIMINFO FROM ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA WHERE OWNER = 'MVDEMO' AND TABLE_NAME = 'STATES' AND COLUMN_NAME = 'GEOM' );
    This runs perfectly on 10g and 11g BETA Installations.
    However, on 11g Production release (11.1.0.6.0), I get:
    ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item
    I'm guessing there was some change to this table in the final release.
    Is there any way around this, or better yet is there another Query that I can use for my purpose ?
    Cheers,
    Ronan

    Ronan,
    I don't think checking for an 'M' in the SDO_DIMNAME proves that a table contains LRS data. As far as I know, the SDO_DIMNAME is a user defined name and could be any value the user chooses. For example, for the first SDO_DINNAME you might use 'X', 'Long', 'Easting', or something else. So there's not guarantee that the user would enter 'M' rather than 'm' or 'measure'.
    The significance is that the order of the DIMINFO corresponds to the order of the element pairs/triplets in the SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY.
    So to check if a table contains LRS, you might be better off testing if the following query returns a 3 or a 4
    SELECT s.geom.get_lrs_dim() FROM MVDEMO.STATES s WHERE ROWNUM < 2;

    If you notice there is no mention of '11g oca' or '9i oca' in the list.
    There is mention of:
    - Oracle 11g DBA OCA
    - Oracle9i DBA OCA
    - Oracle PL/SQL Developer OCA
    And one can drill down links to see the requirements for these certifcations:
    for example for a - Oracle PL/SQL Developer OCA a pass in one of (1z0-007 or 1z0-047 or 1z0-051 (or 1z0-001) ) plus a pass in one of (1z0-144 or 1z0-147) is required.

  • Which track to take for DBA OCA:    11g     or     12c?

    Hi,
    I want to do become an Oracle Database Administrator Certified Associate (OCA).
    Which of the 2 options should I take?  11g or 12c?
    I am actually a developer (Forms & PL/SQL) trying to become a DBA.
    Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards

    I want to do become an Oracle Database Administrator Certified Associate (OCA).
    I am actually a developer (Forms & PL/SQL) trying to become a DBA.
    Why? How will having an OCA certification bring you closer to your goal?
    Which of the 2 options should I take?  11g or 12c?
    Take the 12c path -
    1. that is where everything 'Oracle' is headed.
    2. companies will be increasingly upgrading/installing 12c as time goes by
    3. people will knowledge about 12c will be more and more in demand as time goes by
    4. people will knowledge about 11c will be less and less sin demand as time goes by
    5. the 12c knowledge you gain will become more and more useful to others (e.g. DBAs and your manager) at your company as they consider when, or if, to upgrade their databases to 12c.
    6. 12c knowledge will likely make you more valuable to your current company even before you get your certification. Managers like people that take the initiative to learn something new especially if that 'something new' is a skill that will be useful to the company.
    7. the exam costs for 12c is the same as for 11g
      For 11g see - http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:Datab11g
      For 12c see - http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:DBOCA12C
    8. you can freely download and install 12c for learning and practice just as you can 11g
    The only downside I can think of is that there are fewer people you can turn to for help with any 12c-specific questions or issues you may run into. But there are plenty of books and online tutorials/articles that cover the bulk of those.
    BACK TO THE FUTURE!

  • Same query in 9i & 11g returning different counts

    Recently our DB was upgraded from 9i to 11g. We observed some weird results like same query returning more records in 11g than in 9i. I later found out that was because of Null values. I used below commands to achieve same results.
    1)     ALTER session set optimizer_features_enable='9.2.0'; -
    2)     SELECT /*+ optimizer_features_enable=('9.2.0' )*/ *
    FROM TABLE_NAME
    WHERE
    ORDER BY COL1 DESC , COL2 ASC,COL3 ASC;
    Do we have any documentation/material/link which explains this behavior? Any documentation on data type difference between 9i & 11g? Similar issue i observed in connect by prior.I had to select level in order to get the same records but in 9i without selecting level also we were getting desired result.
    Thanks

    Do you have row-level security in either database?
    As Blushadow said, post a complete test script that people can use to re-create the problem and test their ideas. Include CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for some sample data, and the complete query that you're using. If you are using dbms_rls row-level security, include the function and the code to enable it.
    There's no version 9h or 9j, so it's kind of silly to say you're using 9i. The same goes for 10g. Why not give the actual version numbers, such as 9.2.0.6.0 and 10.2.0.3.0?
