Query prompt selector with a native filter?

Hi,
When I include a "Query Prompt Selector" in my dashboard, it doesn't find any prompt source in my queries. The prompt selector works fine if I have a "local" prompt in my query, but when I use a native filter from my universe (It is a prompt filter), it doesn't find anything. In fact when I preview the query pressing "refresh", it ask me for the variables, so the filter is OK.... How can I solve this issue? Is it normal?
Thanks in advance,
Ricardo.

Hi Abhilasha,
The queries in dashboard are all connected to "BOEXI40-Audit-MSSQL" Universe. I am using a custom filter I created previously in this universe, anyway If you check this universe, you can see a filter called "Custom Date Range", which is a prompt filter.
You can open a new dashboard, connect to this universe, create a query using this filter, select a "query prompt selector" in Dashboard, and you will not see any prompt to select as source. At least this is whats happening to me...
Is this helpful to your question?
Regards,
Ricardo.

• Query Prompt Selector ... few problems in it

Hello Folks !
I am using Query Prompt Selector and I see the component has few limitations / bugs. Can you point out if any solution pleaseeee !
1. The list of value drop down is too wide, any idea how to short the width ? (Changing width of component does not shorten the width of dropdown list).
2. The Query prompt selector has got outer rectangle which is around 1 mm wide around the combo box. This does not fit to our dashboard GUI design. Any way to remove the outer rectangle and just keep it like a normal combo box ?
3. This one is major - I am not using "apply" button on the query prompt selector, so when i click on any values in list of values drop down, the value gets selected - this is okay; but the list of values drop down does not close (ideally it should disappear after i click on any value, but here i have to click outside query prompt selector so make it disappear) ... I am sure there must be some way out of it. any idea please ?
Please refer screenshot for further clarity.
little background: I am using BO 4, Dashboard designer, SP4
Query prompt selector selects values for BEx query variable. There are around 10 such queries selecting month, since all of them have same selection, I am using Query prompt selector to supply selection to all queries in Query Pannel.
Standard dropdown did not work - i mean in data insertion I am not able to select "Query Prompt", queries are grayed out. So I decided to use Query Prompt selector. It works correctly but has got above 3 issues.
Hope this was easy to understand
Waiting for suggestions now
Thanks a lot !

Dear Pratik,
I was also facing the same issue but got the solution.Instead of using prompt on
bex level use filter on Dashboard Level it will be solved.e.g if u r using year prompt on Bex level use year filter on Dashboard level .the problem will be solved .
Thanxs .

• How Can I reduce Query Execution time with use of filter

Dear Experts,
In a query execution is faster when there is no product filter and these products can be a list contaning mare than 300 items.
I am using In operator for that filter.

Maybe if you posted the quer[y][ies] we could get a better idea.

Please advice how we can get faster runs for this query.
Note: We have already checked all other possibilities, like network, application, web services, etc, and they look normal.

If the hints are there only for the "cost", then I'm sorry to say, but they are useless. Did you say that was not efficient to the Oracle Support ?
I asked earlier if that query already ran in a reasonnable time, is it the case, or always took that time ? Is it a change of behaviour after a db upgrade ?
Have you tried to work with AWR snapshots with a short gap in between ? I mean between the AWR snapshots (every 15 minutes or so), not between the runs of the query.
If there's no values for the bind variables, I assume this is what you mean when you said "no prompts", then Oracle can go much faster because of the few (or no?) data repartition to retrieve.
However, when given values to some (all?) of the bind variables, then all the problem will be on the data repartition. That's why I was asking how you gathered statistics on the involved objects, in other words, the histograms may be wrong somehow.
There's a lot of litterature on this, have a look to the Jonathan Lewis blog for more information.
Anyway, I think there's not enough information here and does not look easy to work on it in that state from the other side of the network.

• SQL Query updateable report with row selector. Update process.

I have a SQL Query updateable report with the row selector(s).
How would I identify the row selector in an update process on the page.
I would like to update certain columns to a value of a select box on the page.
Using the basic:
UPDATE table_name
SET column1=value
WHERE some_column=some_value
I would need to do:
UPDATE table_name
SET column1= :P1_select
WHERE [row selector] = ?
Now sure how to identify the [row selector] and/or validate it is checked.
Thanks,
Bob

I don't have the apex_application.g_f01(i) referenced in the page source...In the page source you wouldn't find anything by that name
Identify the tabular form's checkbox column in the page(firebug/chrome developer panel makes this easy)
It should be like
<input id="..." value="" type="checkbox" name="fXX" >we are interested in the name attribute , get that number (between 01 and 50)
Replace that number in the code, for instance if it was f05 , the code would use
apex_application.g_f05
--i'th checked record' primary keyWhen you loop through a checkbox array, it only contains the rows which are checked and it is common practice to returns the record's primary key as the value of the checkbox(available as the the i'th array index as apex_application.g_f05(i) , where i is sequence position of the checked row) so that you can identify the record.

Regards,
NN

Hi NN
You need to follow steps in below link to model your BMM layer for the report to work with non confirmed dimensions.
http://obibb.wordpress.com/2010/05/31/multiple-fact-reporting-on-non-conforming-dimensions/
Once you have followed these steps you can use the non confirmed dimension in the reports. When you see the logs to see the query generated by obiee,it generated 2 queries 1 with confirmed dimension and other with non conformed dimension. When you filter using non confirmed dimension you will now not notice any error but the results will not be filtering out because the filter will be applied only in 1 query which is valid
Now for this to work what you can do is ,instead of using the filter drag the column you like to filter as a prompt in your view.default it to the value you need using the case statement and hide it.This is one of the work around.
There may be many other work arounds for this but you need to understand that for you requirment to work you need to tweek OBIEE to generate 1 query instead of 2 queries.

• BI Bex Query prompt based on User's Authorization....

Hi
In BI, I created 1 BEx Query based on Authorization. If a user runs the query, it prompts for 'Customer Name' to get data of particular customer. And Customer values are populated in the prompt based on User's Authorization.
For example:
User1 is authorized to see data of Customer1 & Customer2. So, Query prompt will show 2 values: 'Customer1' & 'Customer2'.
But User2 is authorized to see data of Customer1, so Query prompt will show 'Customer1' only.
I created 2 variables on Customer field:
1) Authorization Variable in Filter Section
2) Manual, Single Entry, Mandatory on Default Value section.
My Requirement:
If user is authorized to link with only 1 Customer, he should not get prompt & on the background prompt value should be populated from his authorization value. But if user is authorized to see multi-customers, then prompt should appear.
If possible pls. provide some suggestions....
Thanks...

Yes, this can be done.
but there is little work around.. Using guided navigations
1. Create a report with column fx as case when 1=0 then markets.region else user() end
2. apply filter on this column is equal to User_1
3. Create another report with column fx as case when 1=0 then markets.region else user() end
4. apply filter on this column is equal to User_2
5. Now add all your prompts to dashboard, but each prompt should in each section object of dashboard.
6. For first section click on section properties, go to Guided Navigation...
7. Browse Source Request as first report.. and keep If request returns rows selected.
8. Repeat above step for another section.. but this time browse 2nd report.
9. Just save dashboard.
Check now..
Hope you understood..

• Is it possible to use either an analysis prompt OR a fixed element filter?

I am running up against a problem. I have a simple analysis being called by an agent. I want this analysis to be called via agent every morning with a fixed filter on the date element. I am using the following.
("Date"."Date" IN (SELECT case when 1=0 then "date"."date" else timestampadd(sql_tsi_day, -1, current_date) end FROM "RProBIEE"))
This works fine and delivers my analysis to me using yesterdays date. The problem I am having is, what if I want to add a prompt to this analysis to select a date range, in case I want to run the report manually? If I set a prompt, run it manually, and select a date range. It follows that date range. However when I run the agent again, the fixed filter is not applying. Is there a way to have an either or option? Or should I simply have another analysis that I run manually with a prompt for date range, and another simply for my agent to give me yesterdays date?
Please help.
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the reply even though it is bad news for me, as it looks as though I will have to shell out for Airport Express.
I think that Apple have missed a trick here (maybe not financially - see my previous comment) as I am able to mirror my Iphone, iPad and MacBook Pro to a normal TV via Apple TV and an HDMI connector, so it seems odd that the four Apple products cannot share their screens.

I want to make a query on 0IC_C03 with key figures 0valstckqty and 0valstckval for a single month eg October 2011. I have 0plant in rows. The problem is that I just see the key figures for planst which have movements in October 2011.
I dont want choose all months in global filter to get key figures for all plants.
How can I solve this problem?
Jesper

Jesper-
You're looking at a "Transactional" info cube. That means that the query you create will ONLY provide data for a selected period in which data exists. Plants with no movements will not appear. That's how it's supposed to work.
Now... you can create a hidden selection in your columns. For example:
First column (hidden)... 0valstckqty + 0valstckval. No other restrictions
Second column (visible) 0valstckqty restricted to the date range of interest
Third column (visible) 0valstckval restricted to the date range of interest
be sure to NOT suppress Zero rows.
Plants that never had a transaction will, however, not appear at all. The query will also take a long time to execute because it's extracting all data.
The best solution is to explain to your user that it's working the way it's supposed to.. if a plant has no values then there were no transactions.

• Query Not reflected with Updated Data

Dear Experts,
I am facing a Problem in query data updation. Data has been daily updating in infoprovider successfully ,But when user run query through Bex he is always shown old data. Then I go to RSRT and generate the query and data got updated.
Every Time for new data updation I need to Generate the query.
What could be reason for this. Is this related to cache data ?
Any Advise .
Thanks in Advance.

Dear Michael,
This problem is coming only for one Multiprovider. Running this program would affect all other queries also . This will Delay the reporting.
Any other reason why query is reflected with old data Though infoprovide is loaded with new data.

• Error when querying OLAP data with BI answers

Have been doing all the Lessons in "Using Oracle OLAP With Oracle BI Enterprise Edition 10g Release 3". Got till lesson 3 where I'm supposed to query the data with Answers but If I add any of the facts to the report, I get the following error:

Hi,
The single quotes used for CLERK are causing the issue most probably.
C:\Documents and Settings\ITL>exp scott/tiger@orcl tables=(emp) QUERY='"WHERE deptno > 10 and job!='CLERK' "' LOG=log011.log FILE=Exp01.dmp
try replacing with this
C:\Documents and Settings\ITL>exp scott/tiger@orcl tables=(emp) QUERY='"WHERE deptno > 10 and job!=''CLERK'' "' LOG=log011.log FILE=Exp01.dmp
Two single quotes(not double quotes) in the place of one single quote for CLERK.
Thanks
Padma...Thanks A Lot...if/when you place all inside control file, then you do not have to worry about such complications

• Using JMS adapter with J2ee native queuing system

Hi there,
As far as I have understood J2EE contains it's own native queuing system (JMS). Since the J2EE is part of the WAS, shouldn't it be possible to somehow use XI's JMS adapter in conjunction with this native JMS?
I've tried to search many places in many ways, but haven't been able to find any info. Is it possible at all?
Hope, some of u guys can help out there:-)
Regards,
Daniel

Hi Keith,
It looks as if you are in the same situation.
We have this working very nicely now and I'm happy to share. In fact I was just granted wiki permissions so I can add the information there along with screen shots.
Informaiton on this configuration is very scattered but I imagine many people would find it useful for integrating with Mainframes without adding any complexity to the legacy environment. Let me come back to you with some more inormation, but for now you can get started with this:
Insert a module as the 3rd line in your Module Processing Sequence to use AF_Modules/MessageTransformBean and give it a key in order to associate with the parameters you will need to type in below. These parameters are very similar to normal XI File adapter parameters.
SAP Note 793922 has more info on the parameters... not the greatest reference I know.
Also this has some info...

I'll try and get some screen shots up on the Wiki.

• ER - Problem with ADF Faces filter when running ADF Faces within a portlet

I am attempting to get ADF Faces to run within Oracle Portal, i.e. within a portlet using the JPDK.
This, I am sure you are about to tell me, is not something that is fully supported, as yet.
However, I have been successful in getting MyFaces to run within a portlet, by customizing the form tag.
MyFaces, it seems, keeps track of the current viewid by storing it in the session, then uses this within the viewhandler and navigationhandler to determine the next view to load, based on the faces-config.xml navigation entries.
By customizing the form tag it is then possible to retrieve this viewid from the faces context and outputting it in the form's action parameter.
It is also possible, with a few more customizations, to run JSF RI within a portlet, i.e. by adding a custom viewhandler and loading a session variable with the current viewid from the faces context, then retrieving the viewid and outputting it as the action string in the customized form tag .
Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way of getting ADF Faces (EA19 version) to run as a portlet, with either the RI or with MyFaces.
I have configured a basic .jspx document in the <showPage> tags of the provider.xml file.
This uses only the form tag and a few input tags and works when executed directly within my portlet project in JDeveloper (http://localhost:8988/TestJSFAppContext/faces/htdocs/facesportlet/index.jspx) using a redirectfilter (*.jspx htdocs -> /faces/htdocs).
It is not possible to run ADF Faces with RI as a portlet since customization of the ADF Faces ViewHandler appears not to be supported.
When attempting to run this with MyFaces as a portlet, however, I get the following message:
oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilterImpl verifyFilterIsInstalled
WARNING: The AdfFacesFilter has not been installed. ADF Faces requires this filter for proper execution.
I am having difficulty in understanding as to why this is happening but am guessing it must be something to do with either redirect URLs or due to the .jspx files being under /htdocs, i.e. the ADF Faces renderkit is checking that the ADF Faces filter is configured but the check fails since the filter does not execute.
I have configured the filter in web.xml, as detailed in the documentation:
<filter>
<filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
<filter-class>oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilter</filter-class>
</filter>
<filter-mapping>
<filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
<servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
</filter-mapping>
<servlet>
<servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>and have modified the provider.xml file as follows:-
<renderer class="oracle.portal.provider.v2.render.RenderManager">
<renderContainer>true</renderContainer>
<renderCustomize>true</renderCustomize>
<autoRedirect>true</autoRedirect>
<contentType>text/html</contentType>
<showPage>/faces/htdocs/facesportlet/index.jspx</showPage>
<editPage>/htdocs/facesportlet/FacesportletEditPage.jsp</editPage>
<editDefaultsPage>/htdocs/facesportlet/FacesportletEditDefaultsPage.jsp</editDefaultsPage>
</renderer>with the following tags also set:
<session>true</session>
<passAllUrlParams>true</passAllUrlParams>In order to ensure that the session stays alive so that the views are retrieved.
As I say, the page loads OK when run directly within the JPDK project within JDeveloper, with a redirect filter (*.jspx -> /faces/*.jspx) but not when run from within Oracle Portal.
In fact I have found that this filter is very sensitive, i.e. ADF Faces will not run in any project unless the configuration is exactly as above.
It seems that the MyFaces team have got around the problem of maintaining session state with redirections but that ADF Faces needs the page URL that is passed in to the filter to be consistent.
Is there some way around this, i.e. some kind of customization that I can implement to get the filter working?
Thnks

I have found a way to go round the problem.
I use the servlet 2.4/jsp 2.0 route and then
change the web.xml header to the servlet 2.3/jsp 1.2
format. Everything then works fine after this!
Please fix this for production.

• How can I make a query by date with several TDMS files?

Hi,
I have a project that can write and read TDMS files everyday (a file for each day with date and time). There, I can import those files to excel (I choose a file and load it). But, I have a question: How can I make a query by date with those TDMS files? I'd like make a time stamp for start date and stop date, where I could compare the TDMS file dates and sum the values that are in the channels where these files are similar. For example, I save a file with "02/01/2013" name, in other day "03/01/2013", in other day "04/01/2013"... so, i'd like put in time stamp for start date "02/01/2013" file and to stop date "04/01/2013" file, than, sum all values that range with my TDMS files existing. How can I make that?
Thanks all,
Val

Hello Val_Auto.
You're Brazilian, no? Me too. = ^ - ^ =
I converted VI to version of your LabVIEW (8.5). Is attached in this reply.
This VI search all your TDMS in a range of dates and join them in a single TDMS. I hope this is what you wanted.
Query TDMS is the main VI. The TDMS VI Search changes the date format that out from calendar control (which is DD / MM / YYYY) to DD-MM-YYYY. This is because you can't name files using "/". I chose "-" but, if necessary, you should change to keep the same format of your TDMS files.
If you have any doubt as to its operation or how to make changes to adapt VI for your application, keep at your disposal.
Thank you for your contact; I hope have helped you and succeed in your application.
