Query to calculate an AVERAGE

Hi Everybody,
I want to calculate an average in a Query from a Cube
sample
In Cube I have 4 records ( suppose A,B and C are characteristics..dimensions)
A B C 2
A B C 3
A B C 4
A B C 3
I want to have as result just 1 record
A B C 3 ..this 3 value must be calculated as an average(234+3) / 4
There are so many option in the Query designer that I do not exactly which are the right ones.... nevertheless I have made many combination a no one gave me the needed answer.

PS: One option to build that average is to have an additional InfoObject in the cube with value '1' and then use it to calculate the average.... I would like to analyze other solution because do not find ok to spend a field in the database if the Query designer has the option to do that....

If you get listed as a <b>Key Figure</b> is because you have it on the Cube ... that is the option that I do not want to use... or I want to b sure that this is the only way to calculate an average ....
Or is this Key figure a <b>calculated key figure</b> on the list? in this case would be interesting to know how is the formula looks like...

How to calculate an average of YTD measures?

Hi all,
I'm working on BPC 10 for NW.
We use an account-type dimension for Personnel inventory (Personnel to fixed-term contracts, to permanent contracts, number of executives, staff etc.).
The corresponding ACCTYPE is AST because people are seen as a balance sheet account measure. So the measure, even if we're in periodic in our model, is stored as a YTD value.
I want to calculate a average with those measures, for instance the average number of contractors from january to the current month, with a member formula. I can't manage to do that with a calculation because I can't add values of YTD measures: when I try a formula like ([ACCOUNT].A1 , [MEASURES].[YTD]) it returns the same value as the periodic value. Whereas the formula works with EXP account type.
The formula I'd like to have in the end would be something like that:
iif(isleaf([TIME].currentmember),avg(YTD(),([Measures].[PERIODIC],[ACCOUNT].[G102])),[TIME].currentmember.lastchild),solve_order=5
This formula works in a previous version of BPC (5.1) but not in BPC 10.
Any idea?

Assuming the job always starts at mid-might, you can try something like this:

The field MBEWH from the table is fulfill the average inventory at value.
For Eg :I want to calculate Inventory Turnover = Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)/
Average Inventory at value.
so shall i take Inventory Turnover = Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)/MBEWH
The above formula will meet my requirement to find the average inventory Turnover.

How do I calculate the average of ONLY the populated fields?

I'm working on an Adobe form to streamline the process of summarizing course evaluations. To protect the anonymity of the students, instructors with 10 or fewer students are given a typed summary of the evaluation results. On the first half of the evaluation, the students are asked to rate a series of statements from 1-5. Three of these are highlighted on the summary form with the average response.
I've already set up the form with 10 unique boxes for each question and an 11th box which calculates the average. Each field is named according to the question number and the student's "number" (I arbitrarily gave each student a number so that each field would be unique):
i.e. #1. Questionquestionquestion. Q1S1 Q1S2 Q1S3 Q1S4 Q1S5 Q1S6 Q1S7 Q1S8 Q1S9 Q1S10 1AVG
The problem, of course, is that no matter how many students were actually in the class, the AVG field will always be calculated based on a group of 10...which isn't accurate or fair to the instructor. I thought about just changing the form and removing the unused fields from the equation each time I make up a new summary, but the point of creating a form was to make it as quick and easy as possible to bang these things out... Plus, some of my coworkers might be using the form from time to time and I'd have to explain what they have to do and if they don't have Adobe Acrobat then they can't actually make the changes and blah blah blah...it just gets ridiculous really quickly!
So anyway, I tried reading some other posts for similar questions in an attempt to figure out a custom calculation script for myself, but I just couldn't focus on it.
I was hoping someone could explain how to write a custom calculation script that will omit any fields which are left blank... Or, even better...is anyone willing to write it for me? At least just an example of the first guy, cause I could probably figure out how to get all the other ones from there.

In formcalc the function Avg will calculate the average of only the fields with a value in them. So you would would put in the calcuate event of the average field:
$ = Avg(Q1S1,Q1S2,Q1S3,Q1S4, etc)

Javascript to Calculate the Average of a column

I have a column of fields in my PDF that I am trying to calculate the average for.
My problem is that there are 7 fields, but all 7 may not be filled in so I think I need some kind of "if" statement that would only count the number of fields that have values. Then somehow work that into the rest of my calculation...

First, I woul write this function withou field references to make it more universial, and then I would make it a document level funcion so it could be used more than once in a PDF and easily brought into another PDF.

and i got an idea which is add the data into an array every time, then sum of all the data value and take the result divide by the number of elements

Hi I got a similar issue for averaging. I used the mean.vi from the math function but the average is rolling when i run it. I am trying to calculate the average for the data i read to the RT FIFO (which is around 40000 lines).I got the writing part working, however, when i am reading the data, I couldn't get it working. I thought i read the data as a 1-D array, and then pass it to the Mean.vi and then got the result. But seems like the mean is only showing the last data in the array.
Can someone help me with this??

I am desinging a prototype to detect a kind of cardiac illnesses. I am obtaining beats per minute of heart. At the one of stages of project, I want to calculate the running or moving average of beats per minute at every last 10 seconds. For example, the measurement can continue for 10 minutes, but prototype must calculate the average of beats per minute for last 10 seconds. The time interval must be dynamic (as latest) and adjustable. Additionally, I can adjust the time interval, for example last 10 seconds or last 25 seconds. I will be completely grateful for your helps, thank you

Query to calculate time

hi all,
i have 2 udf field of type 'Time', StartTime and EndTime in order to catch the info of some process time.
again 2 fields of date in order to catch the range of days for the process goes.
like the following
Startdate | Enddate | Starttime | Endtime
15/04/09--| 16/04/09| 9:30- | ---14:00
Now i need a query to calculate the time differences in hrs. like the process runs thro 4 n half hrs a day and totally as per the table value the total run process time is 9 hrs.
How to bring out in query any one plz help...

Hi Yatsea, sorry tis time too its not reteiving correct answer, the values i gave over here is jus for example. but in real there may be many different values. So will be useful in case of providing the query taking in the field names plz.
i hav a work around working on . will write here, plz guide me to correct the query to get me correct answer.
in order to find the specific hrs between start and end time for 2 days,
1. can find first total days within start and end date (EndDate-StartDate) + 1 = 2
2. 2nd find the hrs between start and end time (EndTime-StartTime) = 4.30 hrs
3. after tht should multply the 2 values 2 * 4.30 = 8.60 which should round as 9 hrs
Select (datediff(day,enddate,startdate)+1) * (endtime-starttime)
will it help..? its not giving correct answer. may gone wrong wit time format. but this concept will give correct anawer i hope...
PLz...help me getting solution.

How do I calculate an average of a section of data from one channel

I want to be able to:
- plot some data in VIEW
- zoom in on a section of a channel of interest (lets say zoom in on 10 seconds of pressure data from a 10 minute log)
- calculate an average of the data that falls in that zoomed time range, i.e. calculate the 'local' average of that 10 seconds worth of my pressure data

In order to link in your data instead of the example data, you will need to edit the script associated with that example. In the example finder, if you select the "Copy example files" option under "Start example," then you can copy the necessary files to a different location and then load them into the script window of DIAdem. You can then edit the file and path information i nthe VIEW_Statistic_Init.vbs file.
You can also add a menu command to run this script to your DIAdem interface. You will need to use the MenuItemAdd command to do so. You can read more about the command in the DIAdem Help:

This is driving me crazy!
I need to calculate the average of a group of percentages excluding cells listed as '0%'.
Please see screen print below, numbers highlighted need to be averaged, when the table is filled out correctly some will remain '0%' whilst others will have a value, I want the average to be calculated only using numbers with a value greater than '0'.
FYI I am looking for the result to display in 'X2'

you can use the averageif() function. Here is a simple example to get you started:
In this example the average if() function averages values that are non-zero
C2=AVERAGEIF(A1:E1,"<>0",A1:E1)
this is shorthand for select cell C2, then type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
=AVERAGEIF(A1:E1,"<>0",A1:E1)

Part A:
I've done some restating of the question, and distributed the calculations among several fields, not all of which need to be included on the visible layout. Other than formatting the Date fields and moving the 'Completed Date' field and its label, I've left this in the default "Layout 1" produced by AppleWorks.
Field List:
Priority: Popup menu with six items: 00, J, D, 1, 2, 3 Defaults to 00
TL (time limit in months): Calculation: CHOOSE('Priority',0,1,3,4,6,12)
Received: Date. Option: Automatically insert today's date (ie. Date Record created) (may be edited)
Target Date: Calculation:
DATE(YEAR('Received')+INT(MONTH('Received')+'TL')/12,MOD(MONTH('Received')+'TL', 12),DAY('Received'))
Remaining (Days): Calculation: INT('Target Date'+1-NOW()) (see revision below)
Completed: Checkbox. Set default value to Unchecked.
Completed Date: Date: Entered manually
OnTarget: Calculation: IF('Completed',IF('Completed Date'<'Target Date',"On Target","Over"),IF(INT(NOW())>'Target Date',"Over","On Target"))
The On Target field shows the current status of the case while still open, and the state on the closing date when it was closed.
Having done that, I was unhappy with the Remaining field continuing to calculate an ever larger negative number after the case had been closed. Hence this revision below:
Remaining: Calculation: IF('Completed','Target Date'-'Completed Date',INT('Target Date'+1-NOW()))
Shows the number of days remaining while the case is open, the days remaining at completion if the case has been marked Completed and the completion date entered.
Rsults (and some further formatting of the Layout) below.
Part B:
You will need Subsummary parts when sorted on Completed and on On Target. Fields can appear on a Layout only once, so each subsummary part will need a separate Summary type field for each field to be summarized.

Just to add to what was said - the execution can each time be DIFFERENT as the factors that governs performance are NOT CONSTANT.
If Oracle has no idea how long the query is going to take before executing it, then how can you and your code know?
Oracle's CBO estimates the cost (expense) of the query. This is an indication of how expensive a query is - and the more expensive the query, the more resources need to be used, the longer the query will take. The less expensive the query, the fewer resources it need, the faster it will take.
And that is it. How fast or how slow? Oracle does not know. How much faster a query with a cost of 10,000 versus a query with a cost of 1? Oracle does not know.
Why? Because the platform is not constant. Just what data is at this exact moment in the db buffer cache? Just how much CPU capacity is available for the new few seconds? Just what will the sustained throughput be of the I/O subsystem and channels for the next minute? Just how many memory pages need to be swapped between cache and memory? Etc. etc.
All these factors change every single second. So forget about attempting to accurately calculate up-front the time it will take for a query. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE.
