Question about javac -source -target

Hello:
I am using JDK 1.8.0-ea and I want to compile my sources for 1.7 (compatibility with previous VM: 1.7 is the latest official release)
C:\Users\admin>javac -target 1.7 prg.java
javac: target release 1.7 conflicts with default source release 1.8
C:\Users\admin>javac -source 1.8 -target 1.7 prg.java
javac: source release 1.8 requires target release 1.8
Is there some way I could compile for previous VM or will 1.8 classes NOT be compatible  with previous VMs?

Thanks: Actually the code was compiled for JDK7, (it can be compiled even with jdk6).
Huh? I read your post to mean that you can NOT compile it for JDK7 using JDK8. But my point was that if you use JDK8-specific features then the code isn't backward compatible.
The main problem is that when JRE 8 is available for public,  many systems will still have older JREs, thus JDK8 bytecode would not run in them.
Although I can compile it with JDK7 tools, I thought that JDK8 could compile for backwards compatibility, if new features were not used in code.
Normally new versions support some limited number of previous versions using the -target and -source parameters.
You may have found a bug - you can report it using the 'Report Bugs' link on the JDK8 download page.

  • Basic Questions About Compiling Source

    Hi!
I have some very basic questions about compiling source on 10.6. BTW, if the unix discussions still exist, they've hidden them pretty well, so I hope I'm in the right place for this!
First off, you simply cd to the source dir, wherever it may be - in my case ~/Downloads/source/  - and during the install process, everything will be installed in its proper dir, right?
How do you know which compiler to use? There seem to be several: make, gmake, gcc, g++, etc...
Once you do figure out which compiler to run, the process is supposed to go like this, right?
    ./configure
    make (or whatever)
    make install
But this doesn't always work for me. For instance, I'm trying to compile 'arm', but it doesn't seem to have a 'configure' script.
    $ ls ~/Downloads/arm
    ChangeLog
    README
    armrc.sample
    setup.py
    LICENSE
    arm
    install
    /src
Maybe it's that 'setup.py' file? What are you supposed to do?
Of course, it's not only this one that's given me trouble. Sometimes the readme will say I have to edit a certain file for my system. Are there just a few standard changes you always make? Or is it...how can I put it...complicated? How do you find out what's needed in those cases?
    OS 10.6.8
    Xcode 3.2.4
    Python 2.7

This is the place for UNIX discussions. If you have developer-related questions, there is a forum dedicated to that as well: Developer Forums
First off, you simply cd to the source dir, wherever it may be - in my case ~/Downloads/source/  - and during the install process, everything will be installed in its proper dir, right?
Yes. Hopefully the project you want to install follows standard conventions. If so, you can do "./configure", then "make", and finally "sudo make install" to install the software into "/usr/local".
How do you know which compiler to use? There seem to be several: make, gmake, gcc, g++, etc...
The make file will figure that stuff out.
Once you do figure out which compiler to run, the process is supposed to go like this, right?
    ./configure
    make (or whatever)
    make install
Yes, with the addition of "sudo" before "make install" because "/usr/local" is owned by root.
But this doesn't always work for me. For instance, I'm trying to compile 'arm', but it doesn't seem to have a 'configure' script.
    $ ls ~/Downloads/arm
    ChangeLog
    README

    LICENSE
    arm

    /src
arm? You mean "arm (anonymizing relay monitor) - Terminal status monitor for Tor relays." You really don't want to be messing with that stuff. The only people involved with Tor that are trustworthy are US Navy intelligence who have their own uses for it. If you don't understand it as well as they do, best stay away.

  • Report based on custom Query - Question about Data Source

    Hello,
I am trying to create Crystal reports (EBO R3.1, Oracle 11g Database, CR2008) based on custom queries. Tried using different kinds of Data Sources but getting stuck once I export them to Infoview.
    1. Using Oracle Server: This method works fine on my local & Infoview. But since I have lot of reports, I do not want the DB username/password associated to the report. I neither want BO to prompt username/pwd to my user.
    2. Using ODBC(RDO):
Again, works fine on my local. Once I export to Infoview, it fails with this error: "Failed to open the connection"
Which makes sense, because the DSN is created on my local machine and not on the server.
How and what do I create on the server, so that the reports run?
I do not know if using ODBC(RDO) is even the right way for creating custom SQL reports.
I have been reading about Business Views, but not clear on how good they work.
My goal is to create multiple reports, using custom SQL queries which use some kind of connection to the database that can be managed on the
server in one place, and used by multiple reports.
Can any of you please help me here
    Thanks,
    Sowmya.
    Edited by: SBat22 on Apr 13, 2011 5:58 PM

Thanks for moving it to the right forum!!
But, if I setup in CMC, a default username/password that the report needs....what would happen if my password changes?
I would need to go to each and every report and update the password.
I am looking for using one common "connection" for multiple reports. So that, when passwords change, all I update is in one central location.
    Can anyone please help!
    Thanks,
    Sowmya.

  • Easy question about 'javac'...

Yeah, at school, we're so used to using a program like CodeWarrior or NetBeans to do all our programming with. However, here at home, I'm trying to code simply in Notepad, and I'm having a little trouble.
Basically, I'm getting the NoClassDefFound error. The problem is, though, that I can't actually COMPILE the .java file I wrote in notepad - whenever I try to use the 'javac' command, it gives me an error saying it's not recognized as an external command, blah blah blah. So, there's no .class file.
Yeah, before this, I had downloaded the runtime environment, and it all went fine, but there still isn't any 'javac' command. :/

You know how states are always debating whether we (Americans)
should have the ten commandments carved in stone in front
of our courthouses? - or something like that...
Well i think someone needs to carve the god-d@mned classpath
instructions beside the heads at Mt Rushmore, lol.
Darkslime, dont feel bad everyone has this problem when they
start (at least the people that dont read the installation instructions).
    This is what you do.
Install the SDK (not the JRE)
Take note of the installation folder.
Recent installations (1.5) seem to be in:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\
Find the \bin folder. it contains the "javac.exe" and "java.exe".
these are the 2 exes responsible for compiling and running
    java programs.
    the final path should be:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\bin
    go to MY COMPUTER
    right click
    go to PROPs
    ADVANCED tab
    ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES button
    Under SYSTEM VARs:
"CLASSPATH" - i keep this empty
"PATH" - add your installation path
    (i.e.: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\bin )
make sure to add a semicolon " ; " to separate it from the last entry.
    SAVE all of this.
when you compile "cd" into the directory your project is in.
try compiling. if it doesnt work try:
    javac -cp . Program.java
    and
    java -cp . Program
NOTE: you can add other folders to the classpath by using a
    semicolo ";" ....
    java -cp .;Folder1;Folder2 Program
NOTE: the " . " means "this folder"
If this doesnt work read the BILLIONS of threads about this
subject all over these forums and the net.
    Good Luck
oh - and for gods sake use TextPad and not NotePad.
TextPad has a "compile" button for Java.

  • Questions about IP source guard

    1.ISG & port-channel
Where I should input the command "ip verify source dhcp-snooping-vlan", under the physical interface or port-channel interface?
    2.ISG & PVLAN
Because I will not use IP DHCP snooping, I have to input the static ISG entry as below:
"ip source binding 1.1.1.1 1111.1111.1111 vlan xx interface g2/1"
I'm confused about the VLAN ID, it should be Primary VLAN ID or the Secondary VLAN ID???

    Hello sarah,
This is my test results from ip source guard and mac- address filtering lab:
    Ip source guard
--verifys source ip or ip source & mac address relating the snooping database--
            switch MUST run EMI image
    ip source: -Layer 3 checking!
    Switch
    int fa0/3

    switchport mode access
    ip verify source

    int fa0/0
    Mac 0000.1111.1111
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 or via DHCP
if the mac-address is changed on this port - it will still be able to work
As ip verify source is only set to look at the ip address of the interface and not the
mac address in the binding table.-
    change ip address:
    int fa0/0
    Mac 0000.1111.1111
    ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
now connection is lost and even if you change the ip address back, it will still be down
I have found either manually adding a binding to the snoop d/B or shutdown and renable port
    re-enables connection
    ip dhcp snooping binding 0000.3333.3333 vlan 20 192.168.1.1 interface fa0/3 expiry 10000
This will work as long as the ip address is back in the snooping database the mac is irelivant
    ip source & mac address
    Switch
    int fa0/3
    description Link to Host 1
    switchport mode access
    ip verify source port-security
    switchport port-security
    Host1
    int fa0/0
    Mac 0000.1111.1111
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 or via DHCP
if the ip or mac-address is change on this port - it will WONT be able to work
As ip verify source port-security is set to look at both the ip address and mac address of
the interface and the in the binding table.
Now if you change either the ip or mac-address the connection is lost
again either manually adding a binding to the snoop d/B or shutdown and renable port
    re-enables connection
All static entrys are checked BEFORE the snooping database.
When interface is shut down or changed the dymainic bindings are removed from the snooping D/B
this is related to either configuration.

  • Question about base and target document

    Dear All,
Does anyone know which table maintain the relationship between base and target document.
For instance, user clicks the base document in the form of AR invoice and return the base sales order.
    From Samson

    Hi,
In each and every document table the base docs and the target docs information is stored.
Just take a look at the REF DB help file in which u can see the fields and their relations.
For AR Invoice in the lines table INV1 there are 3 fields BaseRef,BaseType,BaseEntry these fields help u in knowing the base doc details, and for the target doc details the following fileds will help, TargetType,TrgetEntry.
U can find the reference file at the following location. C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One SDK\Help\REFDB.chm

  • Question about the Documentation Tags for Source Code

    Hello,
I have a question about CVI's automatic source code documentation. My problem is that is seems like you need to write all documentation for a specific tag on one line. If you don't, a line break will be inserted when the documentation is displayed. Suppose I want to write a large amount of documentation for the function itself, using the HIFN tag. If I don't want linebreaks to be forced in the documentation, I need to write all this documentation on one single line, which kinda messes up my code. If I split the documentation over several HIFN tags, the documentation displayed to the user might look messed up because of all the linebreaks. Is there any escape character I can put at the end of a line, allowing me to split the documentation of several HIFN lines without forcing linebreaks in the documentation?
    Thanks!
    GEMIDIS - Innovating Display Technology
    HQ Ghent, Belgium

This information is certainly useful. Note, however, that it can also be found in the documentation
    Tag
    Description
    /// HIFN help text
Specifies the help text for the function. Use multiple /// HIFN tags to display help text for the function on separate lines. To separate help text with an empty line, use /// HIFN on a line by itself. You also can use HTML tags, but you must enclose the tags in <HTML><BODY></BODY></HTML> tags.
    Example
/// HIFN SampleFunction returns the value of a control.
int SampleFunction (int controlID, ctrlType controlType, char label[], double *value)

  • Question about source system copy for BW

    Dear all,
I have a quick question about copying a source system for BW.
We have two clients in the source ERP:
    100 Customizing
    200 Testing
Our BW is only linked to client 200, so when we now delete client 200 and make a copy from 100 to 200, are we then still able to restore the source system connection so that our extraction will work, or will it fail, as in client 100 I have no BW related (except the cross-client-objects like datasource) information, that can be used for a possible restore of this connection.
What is the procedure in this case?
    Thanks,
    Andreas

Unfortunately, you will lose your source connection and need to create a new one in R/3.  You can use the same source system name in BW, but check the source system connection after the copy (SM59).  Also, I would "Restore" the source system (in BW, right-click on Source system in RSA1, and click "Restore") to insure the datasources get replicated from R/3 to BW.
Depending on how much you want your BW and R/3 systems to be in synch, you will need to rebuild all your data providers (cubes/ODS's) from your R/3 system.  This means deleting all the data and running the initializations from scratch.  At the very least, you will need to rebuild the delta queues.
Curious, if 100 is just for customizing, is there any data in it?  Are you just creating a new blank client 200?

  • A question about item "type and release" of  source system creation

    Hello expert,
I have a question about item "type and release" of  source system creation.
As we know, when we create a web servie source system, there will display a pop-up which includes three items as "logical system","source system"and "type and release".
About the item "type and release",when we push "F4" button, there will be three default selections as below:
    "ORA 115     Oracle Applications 11i
    TLF 205     Tealeaf 2.05B
    XPD 020     SAP xPD".
Who can tell me when and how should I use the three selections.
And also I attempted to input the item by some optional letters except the default three selections and it seems that I can input it freely.
    Thank you and Best Regards,
    Maggie

    Hello DMK,
Thank you very much for your answer. It is very helpful for me.
Can I ask you further about it?
I got that it is a semantic description item.
You said the default selections are set by our basis people.Would you like to tell me how should we creat a new value except the default ones for item "type and release"?Only by inputing the value in the item directly? But you see we canot see the new value item we created by ourself when we push "F4" button next time ,is that ok?Or do we have to ask basis people to define one new value item just like the default seletions before we use it.
Also if possible would you like to describe detail about "This becomes important when you are troubleshooting certain issues especially when RFC connection problems."
    Thank you and Best Regards,
    Maggie

  • Question about Java SE Source Code

I was wondering, what is Java SE written in? Can't be Java right? Since thats like the chicken and the egg. Can't write in Java unless you have a platform to interpret Java code into byte code, but if the platform is written in Java... what is interpreting the platform? The platform can't interpret itself right?
Little confused about it ^, I didn't post in the thread about open source Java since everyones just fighting on there about how old or new the news is. To tell ya the truth, I heard about it yesterday but didn't expect it so soon. Its nice that its here, its now fully Linux friendly. :D
I might download the code and take a look at it if its written in Java.

I was wondering, what is Java SE written in? Can't be
Java right? Since thats like the chicken and the egg.
Can't write in Java unless you have a platform to
interpret Java code into byte code, but if the
platform is written in Java... what is interpreting
the platform? The platform can't interpret itself
    right?
So you write the 0.0.1 compiler and runtime in something else.
Using that you create and compile a Java version that you call 0.0.2.
You now have a compiler written in Java that can compile Java.
The runtime is a bit more complex as it needs some platform specific bootstrapping code, but most of that can be written in Java as well.
And that's no theory, it's what actually happens (and not just with Java).
Not everything is Java, but a good chunk certainly is (or can be).

1.Do we need shutdown / startup restrict the databaseNo - DBUA will do this automatically for you.
2.How can we move the files to the new locationYou can after the upgrade move the datafiles to wherever you want - use the ALTER DATABASE RENAME DATAFILE (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_1004.htm#i2082829) command.
3.Can we change db_name of the databaseI do not believe this is possible with DBUA.

  • Basic questions about Infocube

    Hi, everyone.
I got very basic questions about infocube data handling.
With infopackage, I extracted all the data about employees from R/3.
But there were some mistakes during inputting employee data, like positions,
so I just extracted those employees data once more.
Now I have two requests in infocube, where the first one has some wrong data.
Is there any solutions about this?
I might got it all wrong, so as beginner, any suggestions and explanations will
    be grateful.

    Hi,
You can manually delete the earlier request by going in the Manage option of the cube. select the request and click on delete icon at the bottom.
Other option is to make setting in the Infopackage to delete similar or overlapping request.
Data target tab --> 6th column Automatic loading / deletion of similar request. --> click on the blank icon --> you will get a pop-up --> select the radio button - "delete existing request" --> Select Conditions --> Infosource are same, datasource are same and source system are same, --> selections are "Same or  More Comprehensive "
    Assign points if useful

  • EBS 12.1.3: a few questions about cloning

    Hi,
We have EBS 12.1.3 on AIX 7.1.
A few questions about cloning from shared application tier environment to non-shared application tier environment. We have been following "Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone [ID 406982.1]"
    Source environment (shared app tier):
    - Two active application nodes and LB
    - One active database and one passive database setup with Oracle Data Guard.
    - SSL termination at the load balancer
    - PCP implemented
    Target environment (non-shared app tier):
    - One active application node
    - One active database node
    - No SSL
    - No PCP
After the cloning was completed we noticed the following problems in the target system:
    1) Home page cannot be accessed as application tier $CONTEXT_FILE still contains "https" and ssl termination settings.
    Workaround:
Modify (with text editor) Application Tier $CONTEXT_FILE as follows.
    <webentryurlprotocol oa_var="s_webentryurlprotocol" customized="yes">http</webentryurlprotocol>
    <sslterminator oa_var="s_enable_sslterminator">#</sslterminator>
    <login_page oa_var="s_login_page" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin</login_page>
    <externURL oa_var="s_external_url" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000</externURL>
Run AutoConfig and start application tier.
Is there a better and supported solution for this?
    2) Concurrent managers do not work correctly as they have still old node names (used in PCP in the source system). Workaround used:
    1. Logon to EBS web GUI and remove all nodes from all concurrent managers.
    2. Shutdown application tier. Verify that all concurrent managers have been shutdown. If not, kill the processes manually
    3. As apps user run cmclean.sql
    4. Restart application tier
Is there a better solution for this?
    3) Database changes from ARCHIVELOG mode to nonarchivelog mode in the target system. Is there anyway to prevent this?
    4) Also, we would like to perform a full clone (app + db tiers) from production without shutting down the application. Is this possible? What would be the best documents to describe this? In Production, we have Oracle Data Guard setup with physical standby as per "Oracle Tech Note: Business Continuity for Oracle E-Business Release 12 Using Oracle 11g Physical Standby Database [ID 1070033.1]". This can be used when performing a hot clone for the database, right? What about the application tier? Steps described in 406982.1 include running AutoConfig in which application tier should be down. Does the application need to be down when running "Maintain Snapshot Information"?
    5) One final question (not related to cloning). Oracle Enterprise Manager console webUI has recently stopped working in IE8. E.g. https://myhost.mydomain.com:5501/em gives "Page cannot be displayed". This was working correctly last week. In Firefox, the same link is working fine. Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for your answers in advance.

    1) Home page cannot be accessed as application tier $CONTEXT_FILE still contains "https" and ssl termination settings.
    Workaround:
Modify (with text editor) Application Tier $CONTEXT_FILE as follows.
    <webentryurlprotocol oa_var="s_webentryurlprotocol" customized="yes">http</webentryurlprotocol>
    <sslterminator oa_var="s_enable_sslterminator">#</sslterminator>
    <login_page oa_var="s_login_page" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin</login_page>
    <externURL oa_var="s_external_url" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000</externURL>
Run AutoConfig and start application tier.
Is there a better and supported solution for this? No, you need to edit the context file manually and run AutoConfig.
    2) Concurrent managers do not work correctly as they have still old node names (used in PCP in the source system). Workaround used:
    1. Logon to EBS web GUI and remove all nodes from all concurrent managers.
    2. Shutdown application tier. Verify that all concurrent managers have been shutdown. If not, kill the processes manually
    3. As apps user run cmclean.sql
    4. Restart application tier
Is there a better solution for this? You are following the best approach. You could update the node details from the backend if you want.
    3) Database changes from ARCHIVELOG mode to nonarchivelog mode in the target system. Is there anyway to prevent this?By default, Rapid Clone will create the target database in noarchivelog mode.
Correct.
What about the application tier? Steps described in 406982.1 include running AutoConfig in which application tier should be down. Does the application need to be down when running "Maintain Snapshot Information"?You can copy the application tier node files while the application is up. And, you do not need to shutdown the application to run "Maintain Snapshot Information".
    5) One final question (not related to cloning). Oracle Enterprise Manager console webUI has recently stopped working in IE8. If it is working from one browser, then it should not be an EM issue. Have you tried from a different client and see if this works? Have you changed any setting in your IE browser? Please make sure you add the EM URL to the trusted sites list.
    Thanks,

  • Some questions about building  a plug in

    Hello,
1.I'm trying to build a plug in ( for EM12c release 2 ) for my standalone java application - which exposes mbeans whom i want to collect some metrics with.
It's been a while since i started to build it - and I asked quite a lot of quesions about it - because the documnets supplied with the EDK and
the books ( ProgrammersGuide, ProgrammersReferece and the README file ) are not very clear to me ( I'm a newbie with EM in general .. )
So far some of the questions got answered and were very halpfull with this long process. BUT, there are some questions that nobody answered yet.
I'm quite "stuck" with it. I'm talking about the questions in : Re: A question about updating metadata files in plug in
I have a deadline for this plug in ( which is very close ..) so this the reason I post this new message.
I will appriciate any help about those questions .
    2. Regarding the above, ( hoping to have an answered soon ..) I'm trying another way to buils this plug in:
In the README file there is this section( 3.6 : using MPCUI ) . I read the programmersReference ( chapter 8 ) and followed the instructions both in the README file and the ProgrammersReference .
For a begining, I just wanted to modify a small thing in the example supplied ( Demo Host System ) just to get started with something .
So i modify the file which contains the label ' Select member ... ' ( i don't remember the name of the file since the project is in my office , and I can't copy/paste ..- I think the the file icontians the name ' ConfirmationTarget .xml - it's one of the pages seen while adding a target ) .
I i changed it , i build the project ( using FlexBuilder) but did not use ANT as it's says in the README - the eclipse IDE build this file automatically
( HostSystem.swf  in bin-debug dir as it says in the README ) . I copied this file to stage_dir/oms/metadata/mpcui .
i build a new plug in ( i incremented the version of it ) - no errors, everty thing was fine .I also copied this file to the oms server ( it wasn't there before )
and than run the commad ' emctl register oms ...' as it says in section 3.6 - and o got 'Success' eventually .
Now, when i opened the EM console , hoping to see tge change i made ( again , it's just a change of the title of the step while adding the target , and adding another menuitem to the 3 item that were alreay there ( CPU, FS, etc ) .
I believe wad i did is right- i mean changing in the right file and place ( there is no title like like this in any oter source file in the whole project )
but still, I didn't see any change! it seems execatly as it was befoer the change ..
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

Regarding your question #2. Please read my response here carefully as it covers a number of different issues.
    1. Ant is not required to build the SWF file in your plug-in. It is an OPTION. Section 8.27 describes the different development options using either Ant or FlexBuilder.
    2. You do NOT need to ever copy a SWF file to any location under the OMS runtime. You need to include it in the stage area and then either build an OPAR or use emctl to incrementally update the deployed plug-in. It has to either be deployed as part of the plug-in deployment or updated incrementally using emctl register oms metadata. Section 8.27.2.6 describes the specific steps to do this incremental update.
Steps to update the SWF associated with demo_hostsample. These are covered in the README and in chapter 8.
    1. deploy the demo_hostsample plug-in as described in the README
    2. create an instance of the Host Sample target type through manually discovery (Add Targets->Add Non-Host Target Specifying Properties)
    3. using the demo_hostsample.zip project in Flex Builder, modify some part of the code, for example, modify the line containing label="Current Status" to label="My New Label"
    4. rebuild the SWF, to be sure you can to a Clean build of the demo_hostsample project
    5. ensure there is an updated copy of the HostSample.swf under demo_hostsample\mpcui\bin-debug (NOT bin-release, unless you Exported A Release Build)
    6. copy that updated HostSample.swf file to the location on the OMS machine where you unzipped and built the OPAR for the demo_hostsample plug-in
    7. cd to the stage/oms/metadata/mpcui directory and replace the current HostSample.swf with the one you just built (BE SURE ITS THE UPDATED FILE)
    8. execute the command "emctl register oms metadata -sysman_pwd sysman -pluginId oracle.sysman.ohs -service mpcui -file demo_hostsample_uimd_swf.xml (BE SURE TO USE THE CORRECT sysman_pwd)
At this point you should be able to go to the homepage for the Host Sample target you created and see the changes.
