Question about mouse clicks

hi I hope this makes sense.
I am using swing in my honours project and part of it uses mouse clicks to trigger different events depending on the coordinates that are clicked. However I need to distinguish whether the left or the right button has been clicked as these will call different actions. I got it all working except for the soring out bit. At the moment both buttons do the same thing.
What I'm really asking is what do I need to add to the mouse Clicked action listener so that it recognises which button is clicked?
hope that made sense
thanks

Depends on what version of Java you are using.
This may help.

  • Newbie with question about mouse wheel button

    Sorry in advance if this is too simple, but I'm trying to create an interactive website that requires scene switching by way of the mouse wheel button.
    I'm creating mutliple interactive labeled images that I want to be able to scroll through by using the mouse wheel button but I don't know the action script code.
    Any help?
    Furna.

    Hi Kglad I have a small query about your code correct me if I am wrong some where. You used following lines to
    create  movie clip,
    set focus on it,
    and add event listener to it.
    the lines are
    var tl:MovieClip = this
    stage.focus = tl
    tl.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL,f);
    Now say I have a button on stage and I click it once. the focus will change to the button. and hence we will have to set the focus again to tl after processing button click.  am I correct on this?
    we can alternatively use
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL,f);
    which will always listen to the scroll event no matter where the focus is, or is there some problem which might occur due to this?

  • Question about mouse track speed and interpolation.

    To give context it's a regular practise for windows gamers to set their mouse/pointer speed to 6/11 (middle notch, 6th out of the 11) in your system settings.
    The reason being that setting provides a 1:1 ratio, signal from your mouse translating into pointer movement without any interpolation.
    Which brings me to my question: On what setting, in Leopard, do you get that 1:1 ratio / zero interpolation.

  • Terminal [ UNIX ] "mouse click" command question

    Can I emulate a left mouse click using a command in terminal? Or any freeware solutions available that would help?
    So what I wanna do is
    +open -a blabla filename+
    and then click on a specific area (like If I can tell the x,y co-ordinates to the command it would emulate the action and my application being on top would make the click)

    Let's say that myApp is the reference to your application and myItem is the item in which you want to click. Then you can do something like this
    osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to tell myApp to click myItem at {x, y}'
    The 'at' part is optional and of course replace 'x' and 'y' with the numbers representing the x and y coordinates. For more information look at this [thread|http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-36121.html]

  • How do I set my project to advance to next slide on mouse click vs just play?

    Captivate 6 on mac running OS 10.7.5 file format in question .htm (firefox)
    I'm brand new to Captivate 6 (never used it before) I have put together a mock presentation from scratch which has a few introductory slides then a quiz. When I publish it there is a "play" button which is NOT the behavior I want.
    I watched a training video from Lynda.com and the insstructor imported a PPT file, there was a dialog box which asked the how to advance slide, there was a drop down menu and one of two options was advance "on mouse click". This is the behavior I'm looking for.
    I've scoured the internet and forums etc to find a comparable option elsewhere in Captivate 6 when creating from scratch vs importing from PPT and cannot find one anywhere. I've also read that you can insert a click box object and that that would do what I'm looking for but that doesn't work either.
    Does any such option exist and if so where/ how do I get to it/ use it. Please see attachments below. First screen shot is the first slide I get which isn't the first slide either, what's up with that? Next one is simply to show how the project just "plays" instead of advancing slide by slide. Third is my publish dialog box. Bottom line I don't want a "play" button I want the user to mouse click next, next, next etc. How do I do this?
    Thank you for any help or suggestions!

    Maybe I understand something wrongly, but thought you also wanted to know how you can make slides advance on clicking the Next button instead of having it playing on automatically? And instead of using the playbar you want to have a Previous and Next button?
    The way imported PPT with advance on Mouse click works is because there is a click box added to each slide that pauses that slide at its end. The user has to click on the slide to advance.
    A click box is an 'interactive' object: this means that you can have it pausing the slide, that the user can interact with it and trigger an action like 'Go to Next Slide'.
    You added (from what I see on the last screenshot) another interactive object, but now I'm confused: the third screenshot has a Prev and Next arrow, I think those are shapes. You do not need to add a click box on top of them (what I see on the last screenshot), they can be converted themselves into buttons. I blogged a lot about those shape buttons. Anyway, both click box and shape button can pause the slide. This is the case by default for click boxes (at the end of their duration, their timeline), for shape buttons you have to tell them to pause in the Timing accordion. In your case I certainly would choose a shape button because they can be put on a master slide, or timed for the rest of the project whereas Click boxes need to be unique on each slide, you'l have a lot of copy/paste to do then. In the Action accordion, On Success you choose the action, I think in this case you want 'Go to Next Slide' for the Next 'thing'
    As for the first screenshot, Rod explained that you cannot get rid of the play button for pdf output, but you can have a poster image instead of the blank screen. There is a folder icon in Preferences, Project, Start and End when you deselect AuotPlay.
    Here is a link to an article where I explain shape buttons:

    There is an on-demand webinar as well on the Adobe site which I presented, only about shape buttons.

  • Mouse Clicks/Positons in Pictures!

    Even a guru learns new things...
    I just discovered the use of a picture control/indicator to detect mouse positions and clicks! What a wonderful thing. I have LabVIEW 6.0.2, and have, up to now, not known about this. To all those out there who I recommended to use the mouse click API for Windows, I apologize. This is such a marvelous way to get Mouse information. It's easy, efficient, and completely held within LabVIEW.
    If anyone is wondering what I am talking about, go to Help>Examples in LabVIEW and go to the Examples>Advanced Examples>Picture Control Examples>Mouse Control.vi to see what I mean. I didn't realize that if you dropped a picture control (even as an invisible object!) on the front panel that you could use prop
    erty nodes to get x and y positions, and also the left, right, shift left or right, and third mouse button click information.
    Of course, I hear that this may all be somewhat obsolete in LabVIEW 6.1, but for those still using 6.01 or earlier, it's a great tool that means you don't have to mess with API, MFC or dlls.
    Any comments or questions?

    Hi,
    This is ideal for some applications, you can even build drag/drop functions
    into a picture control using this. But there are some backdraws (or one very
    big one);
    The picture control needs to be the control on front.
    The picture control needs to cover the entire area you need information on.
    This implies that normal functions of controls and indicators cannot be
    used, not even simply clicking on a button...
    It also makes the screen updates take a lot more proccessor time, because
    controls/indicators are overlapping. In the example for instance, the charts
    are not clear to read, because they're flickering.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • NSView subclass and mouse clicks

    I wrote a relatively simple program. It's got a single visual component on the window, an NSView subclass with drawing delegated out to another class called Arrow. Anyway, it uses a timer to trigger calls to drawRect which in turn "animates" a layer. I have a 100x100 layer and a velocity & position which get updated each time through depending on how much "real" time has passed. As the layer bounces around the screen, the animation seems smooth and everything looks good. If I start clicking in the window, however, things get wonky. The animation stutters (probably expected) and the position sometimes gets set back to the origin (0,0, bottom left corner of screen). I wonder if there's something I can do to stop mouse clicks from affecting the view, I have no set up anything to use the mouse clicks AT ALL so I don't really know how they can affect anything in the code I wrote. If this isn't enough info to answer the question, I'll post the xcode project.

    The end result is going to be a very simple 2d game with maybe 8-10 things on the screen moving around at any one time. My next step is to try out openGL but using these CALayers seemed a lot simpler. However, since you say any event will block, I expect that will happen to opengl as well. I'll dig some more in the examples. It seems I followed the pattern from the crash landing demo (although I'm doing it on the mac itself, not iphone/simulator) to set up the rendering.
    When you suggest using core animation, are you talking about just telling it the start/end position and the speed, and letting it handle everything in between? I don't think that will work for my case because eventually I will have to handle mouse/keyboard events to alter the movement in real-time. Am I missing something?
    Thanks again for your help.

    Hello
    Simple problem - don,t know how to solve it.
    With Premiere CC when I try to do a selection (click... drag... release the click) very often it stop way before the end of the move I'm swinging the Magic Mouse. I taught that the mouse clicking was defective and went to get a new Magic Mouse after lots of frustration. Today, I have an edit to do it it does the SAME thing !!
    I was like ????#$%?&*(???
    Opened all the lights and taught I've trow the new mouse to the garbage and was using the defective mouse again... no !! - ??
    Actually, the bran new mouse is doing the same thing. What I understand after investigating on the motion and watching carefully my fingers !! -  is that when I click I have to keep my finger at the EXACT same place on the mouse... drag and release and it's fine. If I click by pushing on the mouse and my finder is moving of a 1/32th of a millimeter, it will release and my selection will be to redo. You can understand my frustration ! - 75$ later... same problem, but I know that if I click with about 5 pounds of pressure and trying to pass my finger through the plastic of the mouse, it you stay steady and make it !
    The problem is that scrolling is enable while clicking and it bugs.
    How to disable it ??
    Simple question - can't find the answer !

    Helllooo !?
    sorry but the Magic Mouse is just useless with the new Adobe Premiere CC and since I'm not the only one but can't find answer this is really disappointing. This mouse is just fantastic and now I have to swap from a USB mouse to the Magic Mouse every times I do some editing. My USB mouse if hurting my hand somehow and I want to got back to the Magic Mouse asap. Please - for sure there is a simple solution !
    Thanks !!

  • Scene Object Mouse Click Cooordinates (xyz)

    Anyone run into and figured out a method for detecting the scene coordinates (xyz) of a mouse click on an object? Very simply I have a two-dimentional plane (ground) and a box (character) that begins at x0,z0 (directly "on" the plane). I'd like to mouse-click on the plane and move the box to that spot based on the scene x,z. After a few days of trying I'm no closer to solving this seemingly straightforward issue. Anyone wanting to do "click to move" for 3D assets rather than keyboard or mouse drag will need this. Having no real documentation or code-view into the API isn't helping. Am I missing something that should be obvious?
    I have to say that I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been any "official' responses to any of our questions. I think the Proscenium team has done a fantastic job so far with this framework. It's simple to setup and get going yet powerful by giving you great depth into the heart of Stage3D without stepping on the framework itself. But, it's not that hard to imagine that there are a lot of us wanting to move into this "new" medium but feel teased by what we've been shown ('code'us-interruptus?). At the moment you either have to know/learn what you need to create your own framework (a big task if you'v enever done it) or use someone elses. In my opinion the existing third-party options are bloated and unwieldy for my purposes. At a time where "everyone" is trying to quickly get their ideas to market with this new tech it's unfortunate we can't get a few simple questions answered. Seriously, if you have a "discussion" and see that any given post has 100 or more views but zero replys, that's not a discussion. You're just talking to yourself.
    My appoligies for turning this into a rant.

    Thanks for the reply pio.
    I tried that angle (pun only slightly intended) and was successful in identifying the object directly “behind” the cursor using scene.pick, even getting that object’s world position. But, if my ground plane is positioned at 0,0,0 I can only get that position directly from the object, which doesn’t do me any good. What I need to know are the coordinates of the point where the cursor bisected the object, relative to its center, from the origin of the camera view. That would tell me the direction and distance I would need to move another object within world space.
    I thought I had come up with a solution but the immediate problem I ran into was the closed nature of the framework. So, after a few days of unproductive grumbling I decided that the only way I was truly going to accomplish what I wanted was to build everything from the ground-up. I still think Proscenium has great potential but I’m done waiting for a RC. For anyone who’s thought about digging into heart of stage3D and building their own framework, but thought it would be incredibly difficult, well, it is. At least it as for me but anyone who would find it easy probably isn’t in this forum. After climbing a steep learning curve (AGAL and I are back on speaking terms) I finally got going and am extremely pleased with what I’ve accomplished. Granted, I did spend a lot of time initially banging my forehead on my desk but I finally “got it”, and with only a slight concussion.
    The resources are out there.

  • Question about size adjuster

    I have a question about the size adjuster located at the bottom right of iPhoto (the one that says "view at largest/smallest photo size" if you hover your mouse arrow over the two blue buttons). Is there a way to permanently adjust the photo once it's been resized by use of this option? I currently just highlight the entire photo and crop it, but it seems like there should be a magic button that changes the photo to the resized appearance. Does this make sense? Thanks

    You would have to do the sliding in the Edit window and when you've got it where you want select the entire window with the cursor and click on the crop button. That will crop that portion of the photo into a separate file. It can, depending on how small that area is in relation to the original image, end up as a very small image file that would not be suitable for high resolution printing. That's because you'll be cutting out only those pixels that make up that portion of the image. Printed to the same relative size as it was in the original file it will print up OK. But if you want to print it as a 4x6 or whatever, it probably will appear pixelated.

  • Question about Local Variables (Multiple answers welcomed!)

    A couple of questions about Local Variables
    1. Programmers always say: “Do not abuse of Local Variables”. I’d like to know, when and where Local variable are most efficiently used?
    2. If I have to create a couple of local variables, is there anyway to “clone” them without going through the repetitive “create/local variables” mouse click each time? (When I try to copy and paste, it creates a new variables instead of the one that I am trying to reproduce)
    3. Which is faster in execution: Updating a variable through a) writing to property node/value or b) through local variable
    Everyone’s input is welcomed, so if this question is already answered, please
    feel free to add additional comments/answers!

    1. Use Local Variables in user interface code and no where else. The only exception is using a local variable of a cluster output to define the datatype for a bundle by name node.
    2. You can drag copy them then right click to get to a menu of all the currently defined controls and indicators on the VI.
    3. B. The problem with A is that it forces a thread switch to the user interface thread--which can take time if you aren't already in it, and it's a very convoluted process under the hood. NI's advice never update indicator values through a property node unless you absolutely, positively can't figure out some other way of doing it.

  • Noob question about launching apps

    Greetings all,
    Just made the switch to a Powerbook with OS X Tiger, and have a question about launching applications; specifically how to do so without using the mouse. On my Linux boxes (one at home, one at work), I do most of my work from the keyboard, without resorting to the mouse, even in Gnome or KDE.
    In Tiger, I can select applications on the desktop, but haven't been able to figure out how to launch them without "clicking"... I've Googled and searched these forums, but no luck so far. Under Linux, it's the Enter key. I assume in Tiger it's some key combination...
    I know there's probably a simple answer, but I've not been able to happen upon the appropriate key combo it at random, so I thought I'd ask the experts.
    Be gentle, I've only had my PB a week!

    To help you in your quest to keep your hands on the keyboard you should check out apps like LaunchBar and Quick Silver. Your hands will never (well... rarely) leave the keyboard again.

  • Mouse click and drag through turntable animation

    Hi all,
    First - thanks for taking the time to look through and possibly helping me with this question.
    I'm just getting to grips with flash cc actionscript 3.0 - so I apologise in advance to my not so technical jargon.
    In the past I have used actionscript 1.0 to create an interactive html file that contains a turntable animation of a 3D model. Users can mouse click and drag to the left or right to 'spin' the model around - however what they are really doing is scrubing through the timeline which contained 360 images of it from 360 degrees. Similar ideas can be found here: Interactive Thyroidectomy
    Now annoying I can't use the old code any more as I'm working in the latest flash cc actionscript 3.0
    So how do I do the same thing but in actionscript 3.0?
    So I've worked this bit out so far
    On my main stage I have two layers - actions layer and another layer with my movie clip (movieclip_mc)
    In the actions layer so far:
    movieclip_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, onMouseDown);
    movieclip_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, onMouseUp);
    function onMouseDown(event:MouseEvent):void
      movieclip_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, onMouseMove);
      //I should put something in here about mouseX  - but no idea what
    function onMouseUp(event:MouseEvent):void
      movieclip_mc.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, onMouseMove);
    function onMouseMove(event:MouseEvent):void
    //I have to put something in about total frames - width of movieclip_mc etc but I'm not sure how
    // this is what someone else did on another forum - but I'm not sure what it means:
         var delta:int = backgroundClip.mouseX - clickedMouseX;
       var wantedFrame:uint = (clickedFrame + delta * clip.totalFrames / backgroundClip.width) % clip.totalFrames;
       while (wantedFrame < 1)
      wantedFrame += clip.totalFrames;
      clip.gotoAndStop(wantedFrame);
    Also I think i need something in the beginning like.....:
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    var clickedMouseX:int;
    var clickedFrame:uint;
    var backgroundClip:Sprite = getChildByName("background") as Sprite;
    var clip:MovieClip = getChildByName("animation") as MovieClip;
    clip.stop();
    clip.mouseEnabled = false;
    .....but I'm a bit confused about what all of it means
    So I understand the principle but no idea how to actually make it work - Could anyone help explain it to me or help with the code?
    Thanks so much to anyone who can offer some help
    Catherine

    Hi Ned,
    sorry to bother you again on this subject -
    the script...
    function onMouseMove(event:MouseEvent): void {
      movieclip.gotoAndStop(Math.round(mouseX/movieclip.width*(movieclip.totalFrames-1))+1 )
    worked fine - but when you click and drag on the movie clip it didn't always get to the end of the movie and never carried on through the frames back to the beginning like i wanted it to (such as this one does Interactive Thyroidectomy)
    So I went back to the older 2.0 script and played with it a bit to be :
    function onMouseMove(event:MouseEvent): void {
      changeDistance = movieclip.mouseX - startX;
      travelDistance = startFrame + changeDistance;
      if (travelDistance > movieclip.totalFrames) {
      movieclip.gotoAndStop (travelDistance % movieclip.totalFrames);
      } else if (travelDistance < 0) {
      movieclip.gotoAndStop (movieclip.totalFrames + (travelDistance % movieclip.totalFrames));
      } else {
      movieclip.gotoAndStop (travelDistance);
    .... which almost works but it is very stuttery to mouse over and then it has this output error..
    mouseDown
