Question about safari image files in 7.1

I am running os X 10.9.5 and safari 7.1. After I upgraded to safari 7.1 I noticed that if I open an image file into a new tab it is centered in the page. Previously they have been aligned left. Is this normal? Can I change the alignment to the left? I do not like change. Thanks in advance

I had the same complaint with Safari 7.1 (MacBook Pro 2011 / OS X 10.9.5) centering images instead of left justifying.
Yet another sacrifice of functionality for appearance.
Be forewarned, this solution is beyond my working knowledge (meaning I don't know if it's reliable or even sane).
I just Googled and poked around enough to fix the image justification issue.
NOTE: this solution causes other problems (e.g. I found Apple's support site doesn't render correctly -- minor alignment issues), so choose based on which causes you less pain. The mitigating factor is that you can toggle this on and off via Safari preferences...
The actual solution is Steps 5 & 6. Steps 1 - 4 are how I got there...
So, I
used the Developer menu to Show Web Inspector
poked around the DOM Tree until I found<img style... margin: auto ...>
tried editing it to be...margin: 0px ...
and the image was instantly left justified
Googled until I found out how to override the default CSS
created and saved a 3 line .css file (I used Terminal and vi, but I assume you can use TextEdit, too). Create the file wherever you like and name it whatever you like -- you're just going to point Safari to it, later...~/Projects/CSS/Safari7.1.Override.css

margin: 0px !important;
configured Safari to use the new style sheet to override the default image marginSelect Safari / Preferences... menuSelect Advanced tabClick the Style sheet: combo box (default value is None Selected)Click Other... (to open the file chooser)
Navigate to, and select, the .css file you created in Step 5
Click Choose button
Images are now left justified.
To return to the default image justification (and allow other sites to render correctly), go back to Step 6.1.1.1 and click None Selected.
Hopefully, Apple will fix the default or someone who knows what they're doing will offer a real solution.
In the mean time this hack will kinda work. :-)

Hi, I have a basic question about importing wma files. I ripped some cd's on a Mindows computer using Media Player, but now want to copy them to my Mac and use them in iTunes on my Mac. when I use Import in iTunes, nothing happens and I cant even seem to copy them one by one using the Music folder.
Can someone help me?

iTunes for Mac doesn't support .wma files.
If you can use a PC to convert them, you can use one of many freeware applications. Google for 'wma to mp3'.
For the Mac there's the shareware program EasyWMA that can convert them.

Noob question about HDR images

hi everybody! i am reading this book about photoshop hoping to understand a lot more than i already know about pixels and colors and image dinamics and such..i got to the chapter about HDR images and here's what i dont get. as i understand, given a HDR image it has 32 bit depth meaning its file contains much more information about contrast and brightness than any existing monitor can output, so when u open it in photoshop u will never see its true quality. my question is( and i admit it may seem pointless to some, but i am committed to understand the cause and purpose), when converting it to 8 or 16 bit depth this window pops up asking me to tweak gamma, exposure, shadows and highlights, etc., but why is this linked to the conversion process? why not simply convert it, maintain the same appearance as before and then if needed manually adjust using all the image controls from the photoshop menus? i have CS6, if that matters.

I don't know if this will help, but I've heard about HDR monitors (still very expensive), which supposedly very accurately display the HDR values. If you hang one on the wall in your house, people might think it's a window, since it is literally a source of light, in the same way a window to the outside world is.
Possibly the most surprising use of HDR imagery is in 3D apps where global illumination models are used. HDR imagery literally is the only source of light for these images. There are no lights in the scene, only HDR imagery. This is because of the great dynamic range of HDR.
A more practical (to me) use of HDR is when resurrecting antique images. If you scan multiple exposures from old prints, then create HDR, sculpting values in 16-bit becomes a very powerful tool, only due to the HDR value range.
Photoshop, although it can edit very well in 16-bit, can only show 8-bit representations of HDR imagery, since almost all monitors are 8-bits per channel. Because of the monitors, we can only see a small part of what is actually present in the HDR file.
I've never done it, but I imagine that if we all had HDR monitors, we'd need to wear protective glasses (like you wear driving in your car when the sun is out) most of the time to do our work. :+)

Some questions about importing HTML files

Hi, folks
Let's suppose we want to import a pack of HTML files formatted in HTML5 wit's it's CSS into a double-oriented folio. A couple or three questions about that, please:
1. Is there a limit for a reasonable quantity of HTML files I can import into a folio? I mean.. 100 would be way too much, for instance?
2. These HTML files could be navigated and referenced from inside TOC-pages made in InDesign,right? (navto://..., I gues?)
2. Will it be possible, by means of HTML adaptative design techniques, to treat both orientations (vertical and horizontal) as different viewports or screen sizes so that the design adapts for instance the column width with its CSS?
3. That said, will the InDesign final app. respect that adaptative CSS rules?
I am asking this because we are looking for a way to inject big quantities of content with a very similar design into our application in a really fast and automatizable way and I have the suspicion* that importing HTML5 preformated CSS files could be the a very good and simple alternative to importing XML into InDesign templates as we start out content as tagged almost-html files.

I assume you are asking about using HTML articles.
1. There is no limit beyond simply keeping things reasonable.
2. Yes. Just use navto://articlename
3. Yes. I've used min-width of 768 and max width of 1024 to control it.
4. InDesign does not enter into any of this with the exception of using the folio builder panel. Everything else is done in Dreamweaver or whatever program you decide to use for the article.
If you want to restrict the HTML articles to one orientation or the other, use the _h and _v suffixes.

Few Questions About Backing Up Files

Okay, I'm pretty new to this, and have checked the support pages, but I do have some questions about backing up my files.
I'm running out of room on my computer's hard drive, and am wondering if burning the library to CDs will allow me to quickly restore my library on my computer when I sync my iPod.
I know that when an iPod syncs with a comp, it will lose any songs that aren't on the library list. (If I deleted some songs to free up room, I'd lose those songs on my iPod when I synced it up.) Is there a way to prevent that from happening? Some way to save a headache continuously restoring my iPod's library every time I want to add a new song or recharge it?
I'm on Windows XP, if that matters.

Best and easiest solution is to buy an external hard drive. Then simply drag and drop your iTunes folder from your internal onto the external and copy the entire library.

Question about calling batch file by using the System Exec+.vi?

I have a problem about calling batch file. I know that the system exec is equivalent to "run" in Windows. I called the batch file c:\rtxdos\bs\ch0.bat successfully in the "run" but it didn't work in the LabVIEW program. The dos prompt had an error message "Bad command or file name" and it just happen when I call this batch file in LabVIEW. Why?

Try to set the "working directory" parameter of System exec.vi to the directory where the batch file is located. It may help.

Hi, question about resize images shortest side

Hi, I have PS ext CS6 64b on win 7 pc, I have more images files(psd), I want after finish to edit all, to automatic flatern psd files, change the size of each image to 1000px on shortest side(are landscape and portrait images), and save as jpg at 100% quality;I know how to use batch function in PS, I know to make this for folders with images with only width being shortest side or only for folders with height being the shortest side, but the problem it is that images are mixed ,even in the same folder, so , I must make a batch that open the file, ftattern the image, and run the script who will determine who it is the shortest side(width or height) then, resize to 1000px for shortest side, and save to jpg with 100% quality, and close the image.
The script I think it is like this:

resize height 1000
But I am not good at all on coding, so I ask here for help, how can I do it?

OSD: different pxe, question about different wim-files

Hi,
Please see this question, I'm somewhat confused about the different
wim files.
I can see the default winpe.wim and a different wim next to it which has name winpe then environment then number (winpe.sccm0022.wim), what is this file.
And, like in my post, why can't I use this image to import into a pxe and boot from that?

What is your goal with this? boot to SCCM and do OS deployment or what is your purpose? when dowloading the boot .wim file from a DP parameters are passed along like MP and so on. So you cannot use that .WIM file and pxe-boot from another PXE solution and
do OSD from ConfigMgr.
That is why Johan's unsupported solution would be the way to try it.

Question about reducing PDF file size on export

I have a large file that is generates a PDF about 75MB when exported with the "[High Quality Print]" preset. However, I can reduce the size down to to under 5MG in Acrobat if I use the Tools>Flattener Preview>[Medium Resolution] setting (image attached). Is there a way to generate this smaller file directly from InDesign? I couldn't figure out how to do this with InDesign's Flattener Preview or Export options, but it is very likely that I missed something.

IWeb SEO tool question about tagging images: what do others do?

I've been reading everybody's posts and started to use iWeb SEO Tool to add meta tags to all my pages. (since google couldn't verify my site with html) The page titles, keywords, and meta tags are relatively easy to decide on, but I don't know what to do about some of the images.
If it's a definite photo of a subject, no problem, but what about those pesky shapeimage5_link0 and shapeimage_1.jpg files?
What do i name them ? line 1, thicker line 2, arrow? (I'm being flippant here, ... really).
I've just been calling them 'stained glass link' or 'next arrow link' but that's pretty dull.
In some cases (for the lines) i've titled them with the name of the webpage again, but with several lines on the page, that tag is repeated, a lot. (And i read that if you repeat the same tag too frequently, your site is banned from google, which i don't want.)
I thought they didn't matter too much but when i did a search from one of the search engines, the description of the web page actually included shapeimage5a.png or some such thing, and i don't want that to appear in people's searches !!
So what do other people do about these? How do you name them?

The main thing with images is TEXT. Put a text caption for each. If possible, don't use the iWeb Photos and Albums templates.
Put a text description at the top of every page with keywords in both the title and text. The spiders will pick up on this.
If you don't do this, at least put a fairly long title tag in. Make sure the first few words are descriptive of the page so that they are relevant to a page bookmark.
If the search engines are picking up on stuff like "shapeimage5_link0" it means that you haven't supplied any unique and relevant text!

Question about changing a file type into another file type

Hello. This isnt a java question but you guys have been so helpful in the past I hope its ok if I ask this question for a friend.
How can I import a scriptware file into Screenwriter 2000, or change a .scw file into a .tag file?

I know nothing about scriptware or Screenwriter. But, my only advice is to see if Scriptware can export some other file type (not necessarily a .scw file) that Screenwriter can read. Sometimes, when I have two text editors whose native formats are incompatible (like opening a paper typed in a new version of Microsoft Word using an old version of WordPerfect or something), I save the file as an RTF file, rather than in the native format. Maybe something like that applies to your situation, too.

Question about defragmenting a file by copying it ???

I recently defragmented my drive which had heavy drive fragmentation (meaning there was very little contigious free space) and thought that after the defragment if I copied a bunch of large files back to the drive that the files wouldn't be fragmented. (Back to the old DOS days where copy made a contigious copy, I guess).
I was surprised to find that the files I copied back to the drive were fairly fragmented even thoug almost all of the free space was now contigious. This seems kind of starnge to me.
I know all about HFS+ and its auto defragmentation of small files but after 6 months my drive's free space was so fragmented (almost 76%) that I thought it was worth it. It was, the drive has now less that 3% fragmentation but I have 3 big (2+ GB) files VM images that when I cpoied them back to the drive became pretty fragmented, this surprised me.
Is there any way to make a contigious copy?

vm (virtual memory) files are transient, (used to store currently active program code and data) you normally only have one, and you can delete it and start over anytime ...

Question about taking Images from video in FCP

I just recently upgraded from pinnacle to FCP 7 and am loving it. My question is when I try to take a still Image from video using Quick Time Conversion, the image comes out blurry or with bars around the edges of people. At first I thought It was because I was trying to capture a moving Image, but then I tried it with someone standing still and I ran into the same problem.
I shoot with a Canon XH-A1

Take the exported file to Photoshop and use Image Size to correct the aspect ratio of the image. Apply the Deinterlace filter in Photoshop to remove the interlacing.

A few questions about executable Jar files

I have to make an a tutorial system and was going to make it using applets embedded in webpages. This approach causes certain limitations so decided to make it using JPanels that open up as windows on the users computer.
I intend on compressing all the files (java, images, sound etc) within a Jar file and would like a few questions answering.
1. How would I make an executable Jar file that when clicked on will load the program on the users computer. Is there some software to do it for me or do I have to do it from the command prompt?
2. Is using a Jar file the best approach or is there a better way to get my java program to run on other peoples pc's
3. If I create an executable Jar file on windows xp, will it run on a Linux machine?
