Question: Best Way to Encrypt a Single Document . . .

I'd like to encrypt at the document level. Just need to do so for several items.
What's the simplest good way to do this? What program?
Thanks in advance!
Ed in Dallas

It looks as if Espionage IS a GUI wrapper around a standard OS X encrypted disk image - see this Espionage support page:
*How does Espionage work?*
http://www.taoeffect.com/espionage/EspionageHelp/pages/faq-workings.html
Espionage apparently adds an elaborate additional GUI layer to make it seem as if you are dealing with a "protected folder" rather than a disk image - the above support page states "FileVault works in the same way."
It seems to me that this convenience just adds an additional component that could go wrong - if either the underlying encrypted disk image OR the GUI interface to it goes wrong, you could lose all the contents.
You can apparently also have "unencrypted password protected folders"
http://www.taoeffect.com/espionage/EspionageHelp/pages/faq-unencrypted.html
The above documentation doesn't mention whether these "unencrypted password-protected folders" also employ underlying disk images, but regardless, they are apparently not secure. The above support page includes:
However, it's fairly simple to get past this password prompt.
If the folder was not encrypted, however, you would be able to see its contents after disabling Espionage's helper program.
If you want your data to be secure, use encryption.
And adding encryption again brings you back to Espionage's use of an underlying encrypted disk image along with its GUI wrapper.

  • Best way to handle multi-page documents?

    Hi,
I'm creating a multi-page editor on top of TLF and I'd like to hear some opinions about the best way to handle multi-pade documents.
    I'm basicaly considering two options:
1.) A single RichEditableText and several ContainerControllers.
    2.) Several RichEditableText.
    Tks.

I'm not sure you can create a RichEditableText and give it multiple ContainerControllers. If you use multiple RichEditableText
components, then you will have to decide in advance which text goes in which one.
We have posted sample code for doing this in straight ActionScript, which you could presumably also host inside a Flex container. See:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tlf/examples/
    Look for "ActionScript Pagination Example".

  • What is the best way to work with Word documents in The InDesign CS4???

I work in Microsoft Word 2007 and all my documents have *.doc format.
What is the best way to work with Word documents in InDesign CS4???
David Blatner says to avoid copying and pasting text from Word instead of placing it (Ctrl+D).
How about pasting RTF or Text Document???
I want to make book's layout in ID CS4 and its main feature is that there is the left page with text and the right - with graphics.
So, as I understand to place the text on each page I must create for example 70 Word documents and place each item on 70 left pages???
It loks like wasting time. I sthere another way of making such layout???  What kind????

It's best to place any text.
You can have all of your text in one file and use auto-flow to add threaded text frames and pages as required (Hold down the Shift key when you click the loaded text cursor), but it's a little non-standard to have the thread only on one side of the spread from the auto-flow perspective, so you'll have to set up properly.
This is one case where a master text frame will work to your advantage. On your master page spread, add a text frame to the left page, but not to the right (or at least not threaded to one on the right -- for some other project you might actually want two independent text threads). Hold the loaded cursor over a frame on the left side of a document page and auto-flow. ID will add new spreads as necessary, but only put the text on the left side.

  • Design question - best way to design a page for layout at runtime

I have an application that I want to port to ADF faces. The application currently generates HTML for both the layout and for the data at runtime. All of the examples I have researched rely on a layout defined at design time, which will not work in my case as I have no way of knowing exactly what the layout will be until runtime.
My question is what is the best way to use ADF faces to dynamically build a web page where the page layout can not be known at design time, only at runtime. Is there a way to build the component tree that will generate the HTML at runtime?
    Here are the specifics:
I have an existing application that generates repeating sections of HTML for a user view -- a set of step by step instructions. Each step in the instructions contains one or more of the following elements
    - a heading
    - some text
    - a table with text in the table cells
There can be one or more steps in a document. Some documents will have a few steps, some will have many steps.
I am looking for the best way to generate the repeating HTML steps in a single HTML document.
One idea: can I use a fragment for each step and bind to the data at rutime? If this works, how would I create an iterator or loop that would be able to include the fragment n times to render a single HTML view showing the sequence of all steps?

Thanks for the suggestions, still don't have a good strategy, however.
What I am really trying to do here is to generate HTML at runtime. This is easy to do with servlets and or jsp, it looks like it is very difficult or impossible with ADF Faces. Using Java EE technologies, I simply include or exclude the HTML markup as an output of my servlet or jsp. I can use JSTL and a backing bean to do most of this. Unfortunately, in ADF faces, it seems that all controls are defined at design time in XML. Editing the XML files at runtime does not seem to be a logical approach. I have tried adding some controls in the backing bean at runtime, and got them to render. However, I also got an el error at runtime, indicating that the framework cannot find the accessor methods, which of course makes sense, as they don't exist in the backing bean. I don't really see any way to effectively modify the backing bean to accommodate this use case.
Interestingly, a coworker is using .Net to do a similar project. In this project we want to print labels using convention instead of configuration. In the convention, we have a data object that contains named fields. We try to match up the field name in a label template with the field name in the data structure, using reflection. Any fields that cannot be matched up end up as input text boxes with associated prompts. Since we cannot know how many fields will match up at design time, we dynamically build a web page containing one or more text inputs for the user to enter data that cannot be pulled from our data structure. We return this page to the user for data input. In short, using .Net we can create a single tool that can be used to print any current or future label our users may want to create. Apparently, .Net can do this quite easily.
This is a somewhat common approach, that I have used in a number of businesses. Did Oracle really miss this use case with ADF Faces, or is there some way to approach these types of problems?
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Best way to mail merge a document?

The best way to ask my question is to explain what I'm trying to do.
I am making a half sheet page for an orphan sponsorship program. Each sheet will need to have the child's name, age & grade and their picture. The pages will have a jpeg background which I exported from a photoshop file.
This is what I've tried to do...
I put each child's name into my address book and make a text box on the page and inserted the mail merge fields. I tried dragging a contact card to each text box but when I try to actually do the merge it has the same name on each box.
This is what I've been doing (which seems very inefficient...
I made the first page with the jpeg background and added a text box. I then keep duplicating the first page and manually type in each box the kids info and then drag the photo from my finder into the picture placeholder. It works this way but with 220 different kids (name info & picture) and having to do each one manually is taking forever.
It seems that there might be an easier/quicker way to do this...but I can't figure it out.
    Any suggestions?

"I put each child's name into my address book"
Have you aslo put the child's information on the same card? Have you set each merge field to obtain the information from a different field on the Address Book card>
Have you defined the Paper Size to "Half letter" in Page Setup? (This may have to be done as a custom size, depending on your printer.)
Page Merge places information from a single card onto each "Page" (as defined in Page Setup). If a merge field is repeated on that "Page", that field will contain information from the same card.
To my understanding, merge will handle only text. You'll still have to transfer the photos manually.

  • Best way to restrict access to documents (outside of the group or library level)

Hi, we're thinking of implementing SharePoint Server 2013 Standard Edition for our organization. Many of our employees are research scientists working on proprietary information. From the (admittedly little) I understand about SharePoint, if a user wants
to restrict access to a particular document to the 2 or 3 people with whom they're collaborating (and also have it not appear in the search results), they will have to email their power user to request that a new document library be created in which they can
store their documents. Is that correct? In this case, what is the best way to handle item-level permissions? Users absolutely want to have the freedom to restrict access to their documents themselves rather than being forced to go to their power user. Thanks.

    Hi,
Per my knowledge, if you want to restrict access to the documents to some users, then you need to have Manage Permissions permission to modify other users’ permission on the documents.
If you do not have the Manage Permissions permission, I recommend to ask the site administrator to create a workflow as below to remove the corresponding users’ permission on the documents which you uploaded. You can start the workflow on the document you
upload and then the permission of the users set on the workflow will be removed from the document.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Best way to access Excel & Word documents on iPad

On my iMac I have  a number of EXCEL and WORD documents created with Excel / Word MICROSOFT for MAC 2011.
I want to access these Word and Excel documents on my iPad.
I am confused as to what is the best way to do this.    Pages & Numbers with iCloud ........ or ....... CloudOn, the free, cloud based service that lets you run Word and Excel on the ipad????
When we are on holidays I need to VIEW or UPDATE Excel and Word documents on my iPad and then when we get home update my iMac with any changes that I may have made.
I do not need to print from my iPad whilst on holidays, only view and update.
Has anyone had experience with Pages and Numbers on their ipad using documents created with Microsoft for Mac 2011 on their Mac computer.  Does it work well and is it user friendly doing what I want it to do as detailed above?
    Thanks

    Thanks for that info Skydiver119.
I was hoping that if I had the apps  'PAGES' (for my Word docs) and  'NUMBERS' (for my Excel docs) loaded on my iPad that I would be able to access my documents without having to have internet access.
I understand that to get them there in the first place I need internet access and then to update back to my iMac when I get back home I would need internet access.
I am relatively new to iPad & apps etc. so maybe I have misunderstood the concept.  I thought that having the apps loaded onto my ipad, would mean that my documents would be there to access/edit/update when ever I needed to.   I mean of course, as I have already said above, once downloaded either by syncing through iTunes or iCloud to start with.
Can you (or anyone else!) please help with this
    Thanks

  • Best way to encrypt all data in SP 2013

    Hello everyone,
I have a SharePoint Lab Installation on which I would like to encrypt all data on it. Now there are several ways to do it: Bitlocker, TDE in SQL Server, EFS, others
Now which is the best way for SharePoint? I just want to ensure that if any HDD gets stolen, the data is safe.
    Thanks!
    Best,
    Christian

    In that case, use BitLocker.

  • What is the best way to sort an XML document in WLI 8.1?

I have the schema for the XML and I want to sort the data. What is the best way to do this?

I'm not sure if you want the result of the sorting to be a sorted XML document or a sorted object tree but anyway both XSLT and XQuery support sorting so you could use a Transformation control to execute an XQuery or XSLT transformation to sort the data. Another option (if you are not comfortable writing XQuery or XSLT) would be to use XmlBeans and programmatically sort the data. A word of warning though, these processes are quite memory intensive and if the XML document you are sorting is large (say over 10 MB) your server might run out of memory. In this case you might be better of just parsing the document with SAX and then sorting the result objects.

  • Best way to store a text document

I have many (100+) contracts of about 100 pages each. What is the best way to store this data so I can search for text within a contract and search for text across contracts? Filestream? I think I want to be able to do a full text search for strings
within a documents and across documents..
    Thanks in advance....
    Rich

    Hi,
If you are using SQL Server 2012, I recommend you to use the FileTable to store the text documents. The FileTable feature of SQL Server 2012 is an enhancement to the FILESTREAM feature which was introduced in SQL Server 2008, FileTable lets
an application integrate its storage and data management components, and provides integrated SQL Server services - including full-text search and semantic search. Before using
the FileTable feature, you need to
enable the FILESTREAM feature on the instance of SQL Server 2012. In addition, you need to create UNIQUE index and FULLTEXT index for the FileTable in order to do full text search.
About how to use the FileTable, you can review the following links:

  • Newbie Question: Best Way to Set Up Library and Photos?

Hello, all — I've been using Aperture for several years now, but I've been doing so with no structure or planning. Now I've got an Aperture library that is nearly 300G, mostly unorganized, and slow —  and I'm ready to clean things up. My general question: "What is the best way to organize Aperture Libraries/Photos?" Right now I've got one library and about 90% of the photos are stored "inside" Aperture.  I'd like to free up space on my internal hard drive and move my library (or libraries) and photos to an external drive.
    So my big questions are:
"Should I have more than one library?"
"Should I store my libraries on my internal or external drives?"
"Should I store my pictures inside our outside of Apertur?" and
"Starting with the library I already have, how should I go about making these changes?"
I know these are all big topics and a lot to ask, but I'm feeling lost and would like at leat some pointers to get started.  I guess I should also point out I do limited editing of my pictures: the vast majority are downloaded from my phone and kept as-is in Aperture.
    THANKS!
    Mark

    So my big questions are:
"Should I have more than one library?"
That's up to you of course but there are pros and cons to multiple libraries.
The biggest con is that by splitting up your library you cannot search all your images at one time. So say you split by year,  you can no longer get all images of Aunt Sally at Bobby's Birthday through the years. You would need to go into each year library, do the search and export the images.
Also having multiple libraries can complicate housekeeping.
On the plus side the libraries are smaller but there isn't a lot to be gained from smaller libraries. Aperture is able to handle fairly large libraries.
"Should I store my libraries on my internal or external drives?"
Again it's an individual choice but as a rule you want your libraries on the fastest drives you have. Up until the release of USB 3 and Thunderbolt that meant the internal drive, now you have more latitude.
So old system I say keep it internal. Newer system, if you can afford the USB 3 or Thunderbolt drives it's your choice.
"Should I store my pictures inside our outside of Apertur?" and
Again it's a users choice. Keeping the originals managed (inside the library) greatly simplifies backups. You backup the library the originals are backed up also.  If the originals are referenced you need to make separate provisions for backing them up.
A plus for having referenced originals is that you can store them on slower media and save space and money. Again before the new Macs this was more of as issue as you would want the library on the internal drive for speed but to save space you could put the originals on slower external drives.
The other reason to store the originals referenced is if you need to access them with another application. If they are managed and in the library it really isn't feasible to access them from another application.
"Starting with the library I already have, how should I go about making these changes?"
Well step one is to make sure you have good working backups of everything. There is a good chance you will not get this right on the first shot and being able to just wipe everything out and start again will be both a big help and a great stress reliever.
Other then that you need to decide how you what the final setup to look. You could make some teat libraries and try out different setups to see what feels better for how you work.  This will also let you play around with the commands and steps you will need to do when you do it for real.
Good luck and if you take nothing else away from all this pay attention to the part about having backups before you start. You will be very happy you did.
    regards

  • Best way to split a single string containing 2 words into word1 and word2

Whats the best way to take a string containing 2 words and split it into 2 strings ?
    eg. "red ferrari"
    string1 "red"
    string2 "ferrari"

If your list is always going to have exactly two words, then yes.  Otherwise it depends on your requierments.

  • Best way to work with Word documents?

Hi! New Mac user, bought a Mac Pro, tired of Windows many faults. I work a lot with texts, documents, and I'm used to Word. And working with colleagues in a Word world..
What is the experience of compatibility? Is iWork functioning good enough for receiving, changing/editing and returning documents, or should one have Windows installed in parallell, with the original Word programme? And same question about presentations - PowerPoint versus/interchangeable with Keynote?

    OpenOffice 3.1
Virtual environment for Windows, but I wouldn't touch Parallels. Fusion or Sun's VB.

  • Best way to work with Word documents on Mac?

Just bought a Mac Pro, tired of the faults of MS/Windows. BUT I work a lot with Word documents, and have to keep doing so to interact with colleagues, I understand there are two possible ways - either install on my Mac also a Windows, and work in original Words, or use iWork.
What is the experience - is iWork fully compatible with Words? Interface problems when sending/editing back and forth? Grateful for opinions and tips!

I too was worried about Word docs when I transitioned over to Pages. I have not found any Word document so far that Pages could not open, that said, most of the time you will get a notice saying that some errors have occurred in the process. Most of these seem to be related to fonts, but if you have tables and spreadsheet segments, they can come out looking scrambled in Pages.
I can't comment on the export of Word docs and how they open on PCs but I do know that the PDF exporter from Pages is great (so far).
In fact Pages is great all around for simplicity, ease of use and dependability.
    iWork: <$100
    Office: >$350
    No Contest IMHO

  • What is the best way to read an excel document ?

I just want to be able to read excel spreadsheets. Do I need to purchase AppleWorks (with the other older stuff on it) or Office for Mac? Is there a better way? Thanks!

hi Rick - Welcome to Apple Discussions!
do i understand correctly that you only want/need to view xcl spreadsheets, not work with them etc?
if so, this might work for you:

an alternative is NeoOffice, which is an open source office suite that can read (and work with) excel documents, among other things...
