Question I hope this will make sense

okay my question is
last weekend I formatted my hard drive
BUT I saved Lightoom on another drive
I was working on some images in Lightroom, BUT forgot to export those images
I opened Lightroom in that drive and can see the images, but of course
Lightroom is saying those images are offline or missing
is there anyway I can just reconnect those images without spending more time
going back and working on the same images twice?
Also the external drive that the images are on and Lightroom are the same drive
BUT the drive has renamed itself
thanks

I hope so too.  So what have you actually done to fix your issue?

  • HT4203 Does this really make sense to others...?

...that we are not able to receive text messages containing photos if using the iPhone through wifi? Like many others I'm sure, I tend to keep my cellular data plan turned off and primarily use my phone through wifi at home and work. I missed the birth announcement of my niece because of this senseless feature...

This is from the iPhone User Manual:
Messages lets you exchange text messages with other SMS and MMS devices via your cellular connection, and with other iOS devices using iMessage.
iMessage is an Apple service that lets you send unlimited messages over Wi-Fi (as well as cellular connections) to other iOS and OS X Mountain Lion users. With iMessage, you can see when other people are typing, and let them know when you’ve read their messages. iMessages are displayed on all of your iOS devices logged in to the same account, so you can start a conversation on one of your devices, and continue it on another device. iMessages are encrypted for security.
The bottom line is MMS (text messages with photos) uses your cellular service.  iMessage, which uses WiFi, is used to communicate between Apple devices.
    Hope this helps.

  • This will make you Smile

I came across this whilst browsing today and it did make me laugh. So I thought I`d put it here and maybe it will put a smile on all those (me included) who have had bad days with BT.
Sorry - the link has been blocked so here it is in it`s entirety
    Enjoy
    Dear Mr. BT,
Thank you for the email from your BT Migration Team regarding the network upgrade on my line, due to take place last Wednesday, the 20th July.
I must confess to a wry smile when I read your statement that I might temporarily lose the use of my phone for ‘up to 10 minutes’, because the words "over" and "optimistic" sprang to mind ‐ curiously enough in that very order.
    I was right, wasn’t I?
Now although life is short, at the time I felt that I could live with not having a phone or internet connection for 10 minutes because I would be at work but even if I hadn’t been, rather than checking online to see if I’d won Tuesday’s Euromillions Lottery, I could instead have used the time at home constructively - perhaps to read a book for a little while, do the washing‐up or even listen to that quaint old thing we used to call the radio.
I wasn’t surprised therefore on the 20th at midday to receive a text at work from my son informing me that the broadband wasn’t working. I replied explaining that you were upgrading the line to a new fibreoptic, mega‐sonic speed internet connection and that he should ‘wait a few minutes’.  He told me that it didn’t matter because he was going out.
I was a little surprised however to receive a text from my wife at 2.37pm who informed me that the phone wasn’t working.  I told her that the Mr BT’s Migration Team were busy fiddling with their knobs to make our line ‘better’ (she’s not very technical) and that they were probably taking a long lunch and the phone would work again soon.
I was more than a little surprised when arriving home at 7.00pm to discover that you still hadn’t finished.
Nor had you finished by midnight.
My surprise increased dramatically on getting up the next morning to find I still had a dead phone and an internet connection speed of zero mega‐gigaflops per second.
Indeed this surprise was nothing compared to my astonishment on reaching work and reading another email from your BT Migration Team telling me that my upgrade was now "complete".  You will not be surprised to learn that at this point the words: “No it **bleep** well isn’t” issued forth from my lips in quite a loud manner.
Luckily, work is quite old‐fashioned and still had both an internet connection and phone line so I visited your BT web site to see if I could report this problem to you personally.  Of course on reaching the first help page I had to shut down the window that immediately popped up asking me if I’d found the help pages helpful because you hadn’t actually helped me at all yet.  Nevertheless I eventually found the page to check my line, entered my number and pushed the button and waited.
“Your phone line isn’t working” said the resulting page.
    Really? You do amaze me.
“Would you like to report this fault?”.  Yes please.  I pushed the button and waited again.
On seeing: “By which method would you prefer to be kept informed as to the progress of the repair?”, I obviously chose ‘by text’ as opposed to other methods because, funnily enough, I DON’T HAVE A PHONE OR AN INTERNET CONNECTION AT HOME (AND I DON'T OWN AN OWL!)
It’s at this point that I’d like to congratulate you Mr Bee.  Within three minutes, you had texted me not once, but twice.
The first to was tell me you’d received my report and the second was to inform me when the repair would be carried out.
    Well done BT!
Even my youngest son would not have been able to input letters on his phone that fast and he even uses both thumbs to do it.  I think you should consider contacting the Guinness Book of World Records to see if you can enter.  I was very impressed at your ruthless efficiency and you didn’t even use the abbreviation ‘U’ or ‘R’ once.
I was not so impressed to read the second text however. It said: “Your repair will be completed by 5.00pm ….” (Good so far)....
    "…..on Tuesday, July 26th” !
SIX days ??? Are you having a laugh??  What has happened to the BT Migration Team?  Have they all flown South to escape the English Summer?  And how can you possibly confuse the figure of ‘10’ with ‘8,640’ minutes??
Today, thinking that you may have mis‐texted, I arrived at work and phoned you instead.  During the ensuing long, one‐sided conversation with your automated robot system I think I must have pressed more buttons on the telephone than Neil Amstrong did during the entire Apollo 11 mission to the moon and back.  Eventually, the she‐bot told me that the nice repair man would begin to LOOK at my problem on the 26th!!
You mean that you’re not actually working on it now??  Have the BT Migration Team migrated to Homebase to exchange that fibre‐optic cable that must be just 6 inches too short to reach my socket??
“There is a problem at our exchange” I am told.  A problem?  Clearly!  Has it been nuked??  Have you lost the key and are unable to gain entry??  Have you checked under the mat?
Is Rupert Murdoch a shareholder in your company?  Did he perhaps hack into my mobile and overhear me say several dubious things about him and government conspiracies and this is his way of getting revenge?
Yes, we have mobile phones to ‘fall back on’ but some of us don’t have posh contracts with one million free minutes and unlimited web surfing (Oh, yes – I remember that).  Some of us are on pay‐as‐you‐go because some of us have too much month left at the end of the money after paying the prices for your telephone line rental , calls and broadband.
Fortunately I don’t feel alone right now.  If it’s a problem at the exchange there are probably thousands of people in the same boat as me.  In fact, I’m going to phone our friends up the road and see how they’re doing.
    Oh, no. I can’t can I?
I hope it’s not seriously going to take that long and I do hope the Migration Team are having a nice holiday.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Keith Hunt
Needless to say Keith had a call from BT on his mobile less than two minutes after BT received his complaint!  Quite impressive.  But when asked the obvious question as to when it would be fixed, the lovely lady replied:
    "Tuesday 26th". (!!??)
But it didn't happen.  By the 29th, Keith was putting pen to paper again:
    Dear Mr BT.
    Happy anniversary for Wednesday.
Did you think I’d forgotten? Don’t be silly – you should know me better than that by now.  No, indeed I would really liked to have called you or emailed on the exact date but I didn’t have a phone line or internet connection at that precise moment.
A bit like now in fact.
I know it’s only been a two or three days since my promised reconnection on the 26th but it seem so much longer, doesn’t it? It’s my understanding that a 1 year anniversary is known as ‘paper’ but I’m not sure what a 1 week’s anniversary would be called and obviously I can’t look it up on the internet. Logic dictates that it must be smaller and thinner than ‘paper’ so I’m going to guess at ‘hair’.
So, happy ‘hair’ anniversary Mr Bee. In celebration I would have liked to have sent you one of my hairs for you to keep and cherish forever but what few I had, have now been torn out in frustration.
To be brutally frank, I’m beginning to wonder where our relationship is heading.
You teased me on Monday 25th didn’t you? I was thrilled when at around 1.15pm I received a phone call on my mobile, a full 1,440 minutes ahead of your predicted repair date, from a person who introduced herself as ‘Anne Engineer’. (She has quite a masculine voice doesn’t she?) Anyway, she explained that she was working on my fault and asked me what the symptoms were.  I explained that although I’m not a doctor, my amateur diagnosis was that ‘I had no phone line’. She promised to work on it.
    Thank you Anne.
Then you teased me again on Tuesday with a text message. I had a huge smile on my face when I read: “Hello, this is Mr BT....” but sadly, that faded quite rapidly as I read the rest of your message: “…It’s still not fixed”. And that’s the last I’ve heard.
    It’s now Friday the 29th.
After your hollow promise of me having to lose my phone connection for ten minutes, here we are – nine DAYS later (or twelve thousand, nine hundred and sixty minutes in Telecom time) and I still have no phone.
I’m beginning to think that I was right in my first letter; in that your exchange has been hit by a small, tactical nuclear weapon. Given that, just like at Chernobyl, your Migration Team have probably had to draw straws to choose which unlucky person would ‘volunteer’ to enter the building.
Anne lost, didn’t she?  This would certainly account for her deep voice and the fact that she now glows in the dark. I expect that my short length of fibre‐optic cable, sitting discarded in the corner of your exchange now has a radioactive half‐life of 50,000 years and I would recommend that Anne doesn’t touch it in case of any possible Health & Safety ramifications or potential litigation.
Despite the stress over the last nine days I’m still in reasonable health, thank you for asking.  I just think that it’s a good job that I’m not elderly or infirmed and have the need for a ‘Careline’ panic button linked to my phone to press in cases of emergencies.  Guess why?  Go on – I dare you.
Some elderly people are not as au fait with modern technology as you or I Mr Bee and may not have access to an iPhone, iPad, iMessengerPigeon or even a mobile phone.  I wonder how they’re getting on?
I hope they’re not lying lifeless in the middle of their hallway at the moment ‐ just like my phone ‐ with a doctor standing over them asking: “And what exactly seems to be the matter?”.
I like your new TV advert Mr Bee.  You know the one I mean?  The one where all the blue lines cascade through cities and towns into a house and into the lucky family’s computers, X‐boxes and PS3’s to show your unhindered and uninterrupted wi‐fi coverage.  Have you seen it?  You must remember it, yes ‐ no?
It’s the one I paid for.
My son and I have spent a long time over the last few days looking for our own blue lines and despite us opening all doors and windows and moving various large items of furniture, we still failed to allow in or discover one single line of any colour.
So in my humble opinion, our wi‐fi is SO interrupted that I would have to describe it as being completely and utterly rupted.  Perhaps you could try opening a window at your end to see if that might help.
I called your she‐bot automated person again today who has a marginally sexier voice than Anne.  I took a very positive attitude about it – for me to press so many buttons in such rapid succession is good practice for using our game console’s hand controller because usually I’m rubbish at playing the online version of ‘Call of Duty’.  The good news is that it’s been so long since my son has played online he might have forgotten everything and I might stand a chance of beating him.  I’m about to write to the game’s software team suggesting they create a new  ‘BT ‐ The Final Decimation’ level. I’m very much looking forward to that.
Phoning the she‐bot was a bit like a computer game actually – after hours of battling through many levels, you think you’ve won when all of a sudden you’re told by the end‐of‐level Boss to ‘press button 2 to continue’ and then all you hear is: “Thank you for calling BT. Goodbye” and you have to start the game again. It’s not as addictive as playing Worms or Bejewelled I have to say.
I’m hoping my phone will work soon Mr BT.  My voicemail is probably full and I’m looking forward to making and receiving calls again.
I hope the very first call I get is from your Subscribers & Accounts Department.
It’s been SUCH a long time and we have SO much to talk about.
    Yours in baldness,
. . . it must be remembered that the sea is a great breeder of friendship. Two men who have known each other for twenty years find that twenty days at sea bring them nearer than ever they were before, or else estrange them.

Guess you didn't read the manual which says:
"This optical drive reads and writes to standard-size CDs and DVDs."
    and
"The SuperDrive in your MacBook Pro supports standard 12 cm (4.7 inch) discs. Irregularly shaped discs or discs smaller than 12 cm (4.7 inches) are not supported."
so I'm not sure a sticker would have been of much help.

  • This doesnt make sense at all -- Equifax drops 20

I know this has been discussed in the past regarding how score changes do not correlate directly with alerts.. But I can't understand for the life of me why this just happened.. I have the MyFico 3B monitoring.. I just refreshed my reports I have no negatives on my report at all..  I just paid for a new pull of 3 reports on 6/29.  As expected, my score did not change over what monitoring was saying - and my simulator values updated accordingly. Over the past several months, I have made significant reductions in my utilization, which is the only thing that was hurting my score. Since the 29th, this is what happened -- all on Equifax. No changes on TU or Experian -- but the same account changes were alerted with no score changes for them: 6/29/2015 Equifax 713 (+2):Your FICO score has increased from 711 to 713 6/30/2015 Equifax 706 (-7):The balance on one of your accounts has decreased by $79 / The balance on one of your accounts has decreased by 100% 7/2/2015 Equifax 705 (-1):The balance on one of your accounts has decreased by $1491 / The balance on one of your accounts has decreased by 22% 7/3/2015 Equifax 704 (-1):A new account has been added to your credit report (NMAC Auto Lease, 36M, Pays as agreed, first reported 6/1/2015) 7/4/2015 Equifax 704 (0):The balance on one of your accounts has decreased by $22   7/5/2015 Equifax 684 (-20):An account listed on your credit report has been updated (Ford Motor Credit, Auto Lease, Closed or Paid Account, Pays as agreed, Balance $4715 to $0)  Any ideas what could have caused this?  Also, while my TU and Experian have either stayed the same in reponse to balance reductions, or gone up by 1 point at a time, Equifax is dropping and I dont know why. Thanks

  • Does this setup make sense?

I have DSL from Verizon via an Actiontec GT704WG modem/router.  I plan to shut off wireless and disable DHCP and NAT in that device, and connect one of its ethernet ports to the WAN port of a Time Capsule.  Then the Time Capsule will be configured to provide DHCP an NAT.  Other devices (Ooma for example) will then connect to the ethernet ports on the TC.
    Should work, right?

I plan to shut off wireless and disable DHCP and NAT in that device, and connect one of its ethernet ports to the WAN port of a Time Capsule.
Shutting off wireless and disabling DHCP and NAT will not likely make the Actiontec a simple bridge mode modem.
Check with Actiontec support to ask them how (and if) it is possible to configure the Actiontec as a simple bridge mode modem.

  • This will make you think

Ok here it is, i have a max limit of 201 thread running at once, i have a class object called Thread Tracker which i have synchronized to keep the number of threads running. Now if 201 thread are running no other threads can start, if a thrwad finnishes it subtracts one from the threadtracker class (yes it is synchonized) and than another thread is able to run. However eventually i get to a point when all 201 thread are waiting for tht thread running to drop below 201, but it never will because they are all waiting.
See im creating a web crawler and the problem is ill start with one site it could have 6 link on that page so it creates htread for all those pages and all the links on those pages, See bellow.
    1 - 6 - 36 - 216 - 1296
6 is just a estimated number of new urls on each page, but hopefully u can see wat i mean, soo the porblem is that the number of threads being created massively outnumbers the number of threads finnishing and i end up with a dead lock.
The reason i limit the number of thread running is because if i dont i reach max mem usage and get memory errors, i can prob go to about 800 threads but im using 200 as a test.
lol to tell ya the truth i have no idea wat todo. ne help would be great.

Maybe a workers and boss architecture?
Let the Boss start with a queue seeded with the initial URL. If there are items in the queue and no workers, the boss employs a new worker and hands the worker the item in the queue. The worker reports new URLs back to the boss. The boss puts the new items into the queue.
The workers also report "job done, ready for another" to the Boss. If the Boss reaches max employees, it continues to add new items to the queue while waiting for this report, then hands an item to the next free worker.
Since only the Boss handles the queue, you shouldn't have a deadlock problem. You can also give the Boss some logic about which URLs are the best candidates for crawling, since it will see the workload (size of queue) and number of employees.
The Boss could also send memos to the workers telling them "due to overloaded queue, please wait no more than Xx millis before giving up and reporting in "job done, ready for another."
As in the physical world, the Boss could be very intelligent or quite the moron. Up to you to avoid Dilbert.

  • [W520 audio] This will make you laugh (or cry)

The biggest dissapointment for me with my W520 was the unusable mic and speakers (for skype, presentations, movies etc).
Every other laptop I have owned is far far superior.
Today I was asked to fix a brand new dell Inspiron 15R.  The Supplier had put on it a plain copy of Windows 7 with no dell drivers, so the trackpad was not working, no option to sleep on battery low etc.
I noticed it was using the generic windows audio drivers, but mic and sound was fine (skype conferences etc. were good). I downloaded and installed the dell drivers anyway.  Guess what - they are conexant, the same as on the terrible sounding W520.  After insatllation, the mic was unusable - got the same underwater "bwa-bwa-bwa" just like on the Think.  I disabled all the "enhancements", and it was somewhat better, but still worse.
I never managed to solve the problem accptably on the think - I take a Toshiba when I need to have a skype conference or use someone elses machine.
How to Conexant get away with supplying such rubbish to big names for so many years without anyone noticing?
One thing did shock me - both machines have a quad core, high end graphics & 1080p panels.  Side by side, the Dell lasted >6h with screen on full doing nothing (6 cell battery), the Think lasted <2h (9cell).  Both machines throttled the CPU down  to 800MHz.
Sorry, posted it in wrong goup - should have been in thinkpad forum.

Have you seen this giant thread about sound on the W520?
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-Sound-Enhancement-Thread/td-p/442761
Sound on the W520 is awful with default settings and isn't great even with these enhancements but it's much better.  Basically, replace the Conexant drivers with some stuff from Dolby.  I've used my W520 for skype many times with no problems.
I have the same CPU in my W520 as you and with the 9 cell battery I get significantly more than 2 hours, I'd say 4-5 hours now (battery is over a year old) with normal use and more like 5+ when the battery was new.  Maybe check your power settings, I don't have anything set out of the ordinary.  Most of the options on balanced type settings when on battery.

I cant seem to be able to change the secutity questions on my minor daughters itunes account. I set the account up but I do not remember adding the security questions and they do not make sense to me. It says that the alternate account it would be sent to is@ me.com but I can not figure our how to get to it to retreive the email to reset the questions. My daughters account may have recently been hacked so I am trying to change all passwords. I changed the itunes account and added another email but I still can not change security questions in case I ever need them.
    <Email Edited by Host>

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your email address from your post (it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum).
The reset link on an account will only show if there is a rescue email address on it, alternate email addresses are different and not used for resetting them. If she has a rescue email address on her account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down this page will give you a reset link on the account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
If she doesn't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use steps 1 to 7 half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • When does proactive caching make sense?

    Hi all!
An standard pattern for multi-dimensional cube is to have
one cube doing heavy time-consuming processing and then synchronize it to query cubes.
In this setup, will pro-active caching makes sense?
    Best regards
    Bjørn
    B. D. Jensen

    Hello Jensen,
Proactive Cache is useful low volume data cubes where data is updating frequently like inventory, forecasting etc. But I will tell you with my own experience Proactive cache in SSAS is not worth. It behaves unexpectedly some times when data update/insert/Delete
in source table the cube doesn't start its processing ,  better you create a SQL Job to process the cube after specified time .
If you want to process the cube in specified interval then I would suggest you to go with SQL JOB

  • Animation logic doesn't make sense....

I know this probably should go to a suggestion/feature request or what not but A. I haven't been able to find the place for that and B. I felt like it'd make sense to see what others thought of this as well....
Firstly....I'm learning flash right now and the animation in it is simply put...."backwards". Every other animation program I've touched made sense but here....its mind boggling. After effects, 3dsmax, maya, just about any other animation software you ALWAYS do the animation THEN place the keyframe.
Why is this important? Because then if you move your object just to see how it would be placed elsewhere temporarily and don't like it, you don't have to undo...or if you moved it accidentally you don't have to try and move it back into place. It doesn't key unless you tell it to key. Unless there's some feature in flash I've not yet discovered that reverses this. The other reason is for the sake of conformity. Sure flash isn't the same as other animation programs but if ctrl+Z is undo universally why do you have to go and change it, just to be different?
Thats not all. It doesn't make sense to have to push a button to edit multiple key frames. Why can't we just select them all and then edit, why add in a useless extra step to edit frames?
Lastly and the most annoying part, is the fact that you need to add in 'blank' keyframes to see your animation play. How did this even make sense from inception? Every other animation program your object will always exist ad infinitum unless you make it disappear. Why force us to add keyframes just to see what we have so far...doesn't it make more sense to just push the play button and see it playing endlessly and then during output you set the amount of frames u want rendered? Even more mind boggling is the fact that if you have an element animated within its own timeline you cannot see that animation in the main stage unless you add blank keyframes? Whats the purpose of these blank keyframes? Its so far as I can see just a needless step that never should have been there.
    Well thats my rant.
Again, I don't script, I'm still learning it, but I come from a heavy background of animation of after effects/fcp/premiere and 3d packages. They are all consistent with how animation works, but here it just seems like it wasn't very thought out.
Maybe there are some reasons for the way its done for the sake of actionscript or some other reasons I'm not yet aware of. So forgive me if what I'm saying in actuality doesn't make sense. But if it does.....sure this would require what would most likely be a huge overhaul of flash's animation system, certainly not enough time to make it in for cs5....but at least as a future patch or in cs6 it would really make things more logical and flat out less complicated.
Thanks for reading, comments/critiques are welcome.

    What is your problem?

  • Does my DNG/RAW workflow make sense to you?

Ive been shooting RAW from my Nikon D50, converting the files to DNG (3.3), opening them in Adobe Camera RAW (2.4) using PSCS, processing and saving in TIFF (often through a droplet). In the process I retain the original RAW .NEF file, create a universal DNG file, and finally create a lossless TIFF file.
I do things this way because I want the supposedly more universal format of DNG, and Camera RAW 2.4 (which runs on CS) doesnt officially support the D50 .NEF file.
I cant think of a reason to upgrade either the DNG converter or Camera RAW files. It appears that the new versions basically just support new cameras. Besides, to do so Id have to upgrade to CS3, and thats totally out of the question.
I take about 2,500-3,000 shots a year not counting the ones I take for experimenting with different settings and such. I know some folk might think my process is time consuming and/or overkill to create and retain DNGs AND TIFFs, but Im thinking it just makes sense. Does this workflow make sense to anyone other than myself?
Im going to post this in both the RAW and DNF forums to see who thinks what. Thanks for your opinions!

Ive been hanging around the forums for a couple years now and have learned quite a bit from the others. Perhaps Ive helped others in the meantime. Im thinking thats the intent of the forum. Ive seen people blasted for not being as knowledgeable as some of the others and Ive always thought it's a shame. However, it appears Ive accidentally irritated folk by asking an opinion of something.
I mentioned in the OP that I'll not be upgrading to CS3 or any other version of PS. So by default, and a point not picked up by some- the question is really in regard to the newer version of DNG and NOT Camera RAW.
When I looked at the download page it appeared that the new version of DNG might somehow be connected to RAW. After all, they are in the same .ZIP file. Mr. Knoll was kind enough to point out that the newest version of DNG didnt require a PS upgrade. I should have figured that out myself as its a stand alone program, but by the way it was packaged Anyway, I downloaded the file, and unzipped it. Then ran DNG.
It works fine. Just as the previous version. But what I was asking, and what some people took issue with, was if there were features that had been faulty with previous version, or perhaps previous versions did work with RAW formats from certain cameras. Things like that.
I was thinking Mr. Knoll or another knowledgeable person might respond with Sure, Thomas, the newer version of DNG processes batch files much faster due to an improved bit-handling algorithm or Naw, the newer version of DNG is just compatible with more camera formats, so if the version you have works, no need to upgrade, or maybe even The newer version fixes a few minor issues with converting files over 9 MB in size.
Instead, I was told that I wouldn't be asking such a preposterous, absurd question. if I had read the linked article. Well, prior to my second post, I did read it read it. Its a nicely written article with some great shots of the interface. It touts the new RAW as the best there is, and according to the author, Jeff Schewe, its well worth the price. But I also noticed it said nothing of the new version of DNG. Maybe thats because the article is titled About Camera RAW 4.1.
Thank you, Mr. Knoll and G Sch.

  • Panther on B&W 350. Tell me if this will work.

Well over a year ago, I gave my Mother-In-Law my old G3 350 B&W, rev2 machine after her G4 died. At the time, I could only get it to 10.2.8, (what I assumed to be) mostly because of the lack of RAM. Since then, I've installed more, and it's 576 now.
I'd like to bump her up to 10.3.9. Here's the rub: She lives about 350 miles away, so it's not a quick hop over to their house. Is it possible to get an ATA drive, put it inside my MDD G4 (or even an external case, temporarily), install 10.3.9 on it, then bring it down there, next time I visit, and swap drives? Or is there going to be an issue with hardware reconciliation? And will I still need more RAM, even though the minimum required is 128?
Essentially, I don't want to spend my entire visit dealing with a computer, especially one that I had issues with when I had it, because it was a rev1 board at the time; even though I fixed that issue, I still don't want to tempt fate, and would rather just install a whole new hard drive, port over the stuff I need to, like mail, and be done with it.
    Doable?
    MB Pro 2.16, MDD 1.25   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   10.4.8

Thousands have done it before you, so no reason why you can't. Be sure to do some prior preparation. Be sure you have the retail Panther package and not some OEM discs (gray labels) or Upgrade-only discs. Panther came as three CDs that had black labels with a large gray "X". A fourth disc was the XCode Tools installer.
Repair the hard drive and permissions. If Disk Utility cannot repair the drive then use Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro. Do not attempt to upgrade a drive that has problems.
Backup her current system by making a bootable clone to an external hard drive. This will make recovery easier in case of problems. You can clone the drive using the Restore option in Panther's Disk Utility or by using the freeware utility Carbon Copy Cloner.
Install Panther by doing an Archive and Install:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Using massive as plug-in and my xio synth  hope this makes sense?

Ok I recorded a sound from my xio synth onto a track. after that I opened a new track under the one I just recored on. on the new track I wanted to use my xio as a midi control for my plug-in called massive. Now the sound on the first track I recorded switched to the sound I was trying to use for my plug-in I hope this makes sense?

Nope, does not make too much sense...but I'll take a crack at it.
    1. Track 1, is it MIDI? Yes....well probably. I can't see your screen, so I will ***-ume it is.
2.Track 2, is it MIDI? Yes...again with the ***-umption.
You need to make SURE track 2 in the arrange page is ACTUALLY Midi track 2. Right now I think you have two "Midi track 1" on the arrange page. ie you have two trakcs which are referencing the same Midi channel.
In Logic when you create a new track in the arrange page, you have three options:
    1. make a new track with the NEXT instrument.
    2. make a new track that is the SAME instrument.
    3. and from the menu, you can choos what type of track to create as well.
    I hope this helps,
    Cheers
