Question mark on photo

I resized a picture in PSE7 and now it has a yellow question mark on it, it's out of focus and it's not letting me reconnect - any suggestions how to get my picture back so that I can save and print it?

Yellow question mark is a sign of missing file which indicates that somehow your file got deleted or might be you moved it to different location on your hard disk. If you have moved it, you can always reconnect the file. When you double click the thumbnail, it search for missing file. You can direct it to the new location of the file and get it reconnected.
Please see if this solves your problem.

  • Buttons appear as Question Marks in Photo Page

    Hey all,
I've been having this problem where buttons (Start Slideshow, Email Me, and Made on a Mac) show up as Question Marks on one of my Photo pages (titled "New Photos)
    Follow Link below:
    http://web.mac.com/adventurestorys/iWeb/Site%201/New%20Photos.html
In the past I've been able to make a small change to the page and re-publish which corrects the problem. But this one is stubborn. Any advice?
Note that I have already tried the "Publish all to .Mac" and that didn't help. And I do Empty my Cache in Safari after Publishing. Also, the problem only occurs on this particular photo page, the others in the site are just fine. So I recreated the page from scratch and re-published, but that still didn't help. Not sure what to try next. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I see what you mean. The images for the buttons are not located by the page but they still work. Are these special image files you're using or the ones that come with the theme?
You might try creating a new photo page, select all of the photos from the old page and past into the placeholder on the new one. Do the same for the text, copy it from the old and past into the text box from the new. Then publish to a folder on the desktop and see if the buttons are correct. If so , delete the old page, rename the new one to the old name and publish.

  • Blue boxed question marks on photos after publishing?

All of my photos have white question marks in blue boxes when I publish my site to my FTP server. I've read where this is caused by pictures not being linked properly, but I have re-linked and have left the location of the photo file unchanged, to no avail. I've contacted Yahoo (my provider), also to no avail. I have not fully published my site to my domain yet due to this, but this is the URL of my temp domain:
    http://nashvilleleader.com.p8.hostingprod.com/Nashville_Leader/Home.html
Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!

The files haven't been uploaded. Take a look at the Activity for your home page, Option-Command-A, to see the URLs of the missing files.
Look HERE to see the directory and note that the files aren't there.
How are you uploading the files - iWeb FTP, an FTP app or Yahoo file manager?
Good luck with getting help from Yahoo - their tech support is the bottom of the barrel.

  • Question mark on photo on apple tv AND deleted photos showing up

Ok so the first part of this is probably really obvious, but having spent over an hour on the second part of my problem I give up. So, when you are viewing photos, via home share form my  main mac, onto my apple tv, what does to mean when there is no photo, but a black box with a question mark within. Believe me I have searched these forums!
But this was all because of the main issue, which is "embarrassing" photos I have deleted from EVERY device I own, still show up in the albums on apple tv. So, in the light of recent events with photos popping up everywhere, if they're not deleted where ELSE can they be! Anyway. again I have searched these forums and this subject does pop up from time to time but Ive never seen a definitive solution! Help! Driving me crazy!

  • I tried restoring deleted photos, now my i photo albums are showing blank spaces with question marks on where there should be photos!!

Can someone help me! I tried restoring deleted photos using time machine...I know I shouldn't have fiddled! When i went back to my i photo albums some of the photos had disappeared and in the space was a grey square with a question mark in. The photo still shows in the top area but i can't put it into a space. I have i photo 08. I don't know if it is an i photo album problem or I have in some way corrupted some of my photos. When i right click on the question mark the photo appears and I can drag back to the top area, it just won't show up in the album. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Catalogs, Missing Files, and Question Marks for Beginners

Hello, fellow non-power-users. I just wanted to post something here that I've learned with my travails and travels using LightRoom 3. In the past, Adobe has paid me to write for them, and I'm a professional writer. So why am I doing this for free? Because I wish to heck I'd understood this stuff before I dove into LR. Somehow, even with reading a book on the program, I didn't really get it.
    1) Most of the people who are kind enough to post and help on Adobe support and other forums on the Interwebs are power users of Lightroom. The great thing is, they often know what they're talking about. The bad thing is, many of them don't understand what it's like to be a non-power-user who really has no intention of becoming a power user. Be very, very careful before you try to take their advice about any large issue that might have serious consequences for your photos.
    2) LR has about forty million ways to do things, so it can be overwhelming, and you may also receive lots of contradictory information about how to accomplish stuff. If you're like me---not a professional photographer, more a refugee from the annoying land of iPhoto who just needs a *little* more power and customization---you may have trouble streamlining, figuring out the few things you actually need the program to do for you. Try some introductory videos and tutorials, even books, but don't expect them to solve your real problems with the program.
    3) Before you begin, grasp a few concepts:
         a. When you're working in LR, you're working with a "catalog." It shows you images of your photos, but these aren't really your photos. Your actual photos are *files* that live on your computer somewhere. Think of it as a slideshow projected on a wall: you can see the photos on the wall, but they aren't the "real photo." If you walked up to the wall and painted on the projection of a slide, the "real photo" file would not be changed. What LR does is keep track of those wall paintings for you, so if you wanted to print up a version of that slide and include your brush strokes, LR could do that for you. The catalog is a type of database.
         b. So where are those real photos, those files? Probably all over your computer in different places. You may want to consolidate them all in one place before you start using Lightroom. Here's why: once Lightroom thinks your "real photo" is in a certain place, it doesn't want you to move the "real photo" file. Say you have a photo called that someone sent in email. You put it on your desktop. Now you are tempted to drag-n-drop it onto Lightroom. DO NOT DO IT. Because someday, you might want that photo to not clutter up your desktop. You'll drag it to another folder on your hard drive, and BOOM, now Lightroom cannot find the photo.
You can't work on the photo from within Lightroom. You can't print it. Lightroom will show a question mark ? on its wall-projector slide of your photo file. Often when someone moves files on their computer, it's not a single file on a desktop. It's a bunch of things they are trying to organize. Adobe knows this, which is why they have a "find missing photos" command. They know you are likely to screw this up. The command will show you those missing files. You have to select them individually by hand and search your computer for them to relink. You can spend a lot of time relinking photos. It sucks. Really sucks.
         c. If you do need to move stuff, Lightroom does let you do it, but only from within the program. So, open up LR, and look in the left-hand column for an item called "Folders." (You will be in Library mode to make this happen.) You can move your "real photo" files around from within this area. It is a clunky process and an enormous pain in the butt.
         d. Rant time: For some reason, one of the most sophisticated and long-lived software companies in history, the developers that completely changed the worlds of art, design, photography, and publishing--you got it, Adobe--have not been able to solve this problem and chase down your real photo files if you moved them from within the Finder, the way you normally move files on a computer. Go figure. (Irrelevant note: I've been using their products since Pagemaker 1.0 and it's sort of astonishing that they've never solved this problem, in LR or InDesign or elsewhere. It's like publishing a magazine using Quark in 1995, rushing to find the messed-up links before you hand-carry your ZIP drive over to the printer. Hee hee.)
    4) Decide whether you want to divide your photos into a few separate catalogs, or whether you want one enormous catalog ("master catalog"). Then try not to change your mind.
    Here is my story:
Summary: I started with multiple catalogs and regret merging them into one.
I hired a photographer/supposedly-LR guy to set up my LR and he suggested multiple catalogs, each easily saveable (catalog AND its photos) to a single external hard drive. I only made two: one for family photos, one for a big art project. Whenever I asked questions online about using LR, everyone told me to combine all photos into one big master catalog. Eventually I did, and I regret it. As a non-power-user, I screwed up something in the merging process, and ended up with a lot of question-mark, missing-photo problems, and a bunch of duplicate photos to boot. What a waste of time.
If you're not a pro, you probably don't need a gigantic single database to deal with. If you're someone who uses Dropbox or another non-Adobe cloud method to store and work with your photos, and you don't have unlimited storage, you may find it way more convenient to have a few different catalogs.
Power users probably don't screw up the process of merging all their catalogs into one. Power users have, from what I've read online, many complicated ways of making a big master catalog work the way they want, say for working on small numbers of files while traveling with a laptop, and then getting that work into the giant master catalog when they get back home to their studios.
But I am not a power user, and if you're reading this, you probably aren't a power user either. So perhaps my experience will be useful to you.
    5) Paying for plug-ins to help with all this nonsense.
You can buy plug-ins that help you do things this application should already do by itself. For example, "Duplicate Finder" goes through and finds all the photos that you've accidentally imported more than once into your catalog. Then you can painstakingly go through, figure out which copy to keep, and delete them. Often, these "duplicate" photos are not duplicates of your "real photo" file. But at some point you moved your "real photo" file while you were tidying up your computer files, and later accidentally re-imported that photo into your LR catalog. Since LR doesn't follow your files around when you move them from within your computer/Finder, LR thinks it's a whole brand-new file. It's like your projector is projecting three images on the wall at the same time. You have to figure out which one to keep, which one will save your wall-painting changes, etc. And it is a huge pain in the butt.
Note that you can click a box when importing photos, a box that says "Do not import suspected duplicates." This can be really helpful for avoiding duplicates in the first place. It is not, however, infallible.
OK, I hope this helps someone somewhere. I'm going to go back to the horribly time-consuming task of relinking files and trying to make my brain work the way LR's brain works.

    Glad to help!
Another good thing to do from time to time is to boot from your install CD, then choose "Disk Utility", then do a check (and repair, if necessary) of your boot disk.
You can't verify or fix a disk you've started from, thus the need to boot from a CD. You can boot from a second hard disk to do this test if it has MacOS on it.

  • My computer has some serious problems, my iphoto only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them, i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them. originally all the photos has a large delta with a question mark. also I can't back up

my computer has some serious problems, my iphoto only shows  only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them, i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them. originally all the photos had a large delta with a question mark. also I can't back up the library file because its not there. I went to time machune and tried to find the file but I can't find it or I am looking in the wrong place. I also lost my Idvd file, only have broken chain showing.

    Details please
What version of iPhoto and of the OS?
i tried to rebuild my files from folders that had the pics in them.
Exactly what did you do and how did you do it? this ay be the cause of your issue but without details we can n=ony guess
my iphoto only shows  only shows thumb size pics when I try to open them,
where do you see htis? In the iPhoto window? what does "try to pen them" exactly mean?
originally all the photos had a large delta with a question mark.
Ok - this usually has a simple solution - do you still have a copy of the library that has this problem?
also I can't back up the library file because its not there.
This makes no sense at all - all of your previous statements indicate that you do have an iPhoto library but have some problems with it
By default your iPHoto library is located in your Pictures folder and is named iPhtoo library - if tha tis not the case the you have moved or renamed it and only you know what you did until you tell us the details
I went to time machune and tried to find the file but I can't find it or I am looking in the wrong place.
Again unless you actually share what and how you are doing thing but continue to simply state abstract problems it is no possible to assist you - details on using Time Machine are here  --  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US   --     and   --    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html   ---
I also lost my Idvd file, only have broken chain showing.
This would be better addressed in the iDVD forum - but again unlesss yu share detailed information no one can assist

  • Buttons in my photo page are showing up as "blue question marks?

When I updated my website last night, the arrow buttons in my photo pages show up as blue boxes with question marks in them. This has never happen before. All of the images are fine, text is fine, even the numbers for the various pages of the photo album, just the "arrows" have the little "?" symbol. I have restarted the computer, refreshed, reset Safari, emptied the cache and nothing seems to work. I had a second party look on their Mac if it was the same on theirs and it is too.
I am posting to a server (not using mobile me). Any suggestions???

Publish to a local folder and launch this version in the browser by double clicking the index.html file.
If this is OK it means that you haven't uploaded all the files to the server.
If its not OK, try deleting the iWeb preference file before the restart. See "Fix iWeb" here....

  • Photo replaced with a box and question mark

I see photos in the I photo library, but when I click on them to see the single picture in a larger view instead of seeing the particular picture, I get a square box with a question mark in it. It doesn't happen with all my pictures, just 80 percent, which is very frustrating since these are the most recent pictures from a vacation. This just started with the recent upgrade to I photo 6. I have ibookG4 running OSX 10.4.8

Welcome to the Mac and the Apple DIscussions.
In general, it's a good idea to create a new thread for a new query.
    To your specific questions:
    1. however, it drives me crazy that I can't simply add more photos to an existing roll in the library... it always creates a new folder. How do I stop iPhoto from doing this?
You can't. But you can move photos from Roll to Roll in the iPhoto Window, and this will be reflected in the Finder. Just a you can rename Rolls etc., all via the iPhoto Window.
    2. Is there any way that I can retrain the programme to find the photos that I have moved?
No, sorry, the best you can do, if you cannot return things to the way they were, is to create a new library and start over. To rebuild the library: move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find there the Originals folder. From there drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
A general comment: iPhoto is a photo organiser, with built-in image viewer, version control and lightweight editing. The key concept is that it's a photo organiser, a database. Like any database it needs you to manipulate the data via the iPhoto Window and not any other way.
When you rename things in the iPhoto Library Folder, or when you focus on the iPhoto Library Folder you're missing the point. You do your work in the iPhoto Window, and apart from backing up, forget about the iPhoto Library Folder. As Phillyphan points out, messing with the iPhoto Library Folder is like opening the bonnet on your car and re-arranging the wiring there. With the same results! Or as I sometimes put it, iPhoto is a photo organiser, why do you then re-organise what the organiser has done?
Most people who reorganise the iPhoto Library Folder do so because they are afraid that they will be unable to find the photos should they need them. Well, there are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
By all means post back if you need any further clarifications or help.

  • Question mark on the frame of my photos in the film strip and files can't be opened

I had used LR for imports and some editing. I then reorganized my folders of the original files. This includes the NEF and JPG.
Now when I open LR, all of the files are there but I get a message that they can't be opened and there is a small question mark on the gray around each photo.
What do I need to to do to undo this?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Did you "reorganize" them outside of LR? If so, LR has lost track of the images. You'll need to click the Question Mark on one at the highest level directory you can and point LR to the file. LR will try to re-locate the rest but you may need to do this for each changed branch.

  • Facebook images, profile photos, cover photos are not loading. Only small blue square with question mark. Same thing in Safari, FireFox, Chrome.

Since July on MacBook Pro facebook images, profile photos, cover photos are not loading. Only small blue square with question mark. Same thing in Safari, FireFox, Chrome. Everything is up to date including last version of Adobe Flash. And watching YouTube also a problem. Video is skipping, freezing for few seconds and jumps forward. At the same time on Toshiba with Windows Vista under the same account, same wi-fi connection everything works fine.
Please help with sugesstions to fix the issue.

Seems like problem is solved but it might be temporarily. Anyway. Click on the image, it will open facebook photo browser. Image is not loading so right click on the blue box with question mark, save image as. It will start downloading but without any success since browser do not see the image. After this attempt refresh the page and close all tabs with facebook. Try to open facebook once again. For some reason after this weird actions all images displayed properly. Do not know for how long but now it works.

Examples: In Facebook and Pinterest some of the photos are showing, others just have a small blue box with a question mark in the middle.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Blue box with a question mark means that images are not available now.
Servers storing those images may be down.
    Best.

When I am browsing an internet forum on safari using my iPod touch, I often see a blue box with a white question mark in it instead of the photo that has been uploaded. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Any help is much appreciated.
I'm using the latest iOS (4.3.3)

I'd just like to add that I've cleared the cache (which is something I've seen some people suggest) and it doesn't fix the problem.
