Question of displaying Task Flow Region in Master-Details pattern

We have a master-details page. There is a region on the details pane along with other widgets and the content of that details pane including the region depends on the row selection on the master table list.
The first time page loads with no row selection on master table so this details pane displays nothing. When I select one row on the master table and the details pane and its region can display data of the row in master table properly.
After several selection, I navigate to another page and then go back to this master-details page again, it automatically selects the row which was selected last time. And in the details pane, the region whose content was created basing a task flow call cannot display corresponding data of the default selected row while other widgets in the details pane can display corresponding data properly.
The reason of having this problem is the region's parameter is generated before the selected row is determined. When the task flow call in page definition is parsed, the parameter of this task flow call is created before component binding of the master table. It means when the task flow call is parsed and generating the parameter, the ADF page believes there is no row selection of the master table because the component binding is null at that time.
So my question is how to make the this task flow call for that region create the task flow call parameter after the component binding of the master table? Or is there any way to force a refresh of the region/task-flow-call after the render of response? Or is there anyway to disable this "auto-select" on the master table after navigating to other page?

The reason we are using master-details patter here is it is designed in that way and the region is displaying the data of a selected row there.
There is no master-details relationship on model layer. But the content of the region is from the result of several other Java API calls which call the task-flow from an external component.

  • Best Practice - Bounded Task Flows, Regions and Nested Application Modules

    Using JDev 11.1.1.3; understand that it's generally considered good practice to just have 1 root application module servicing model content / services for each page. In our application, we've used a number of bounded task flows and page fragments deployed as af:region's into pages as either a) views targeted in page-flow navigation, b) tab panel content inside a regular jspx, or c) af:popup / af:dialog content. As it stands, we've not engaged nesting of the application modules for this embedded region content, so these regions are no doubt instantiating new AM's if/when invoked. Should the AM's servicing these embedded regions be deployed nested within the root AM's, and then if so, does this change the way that the jsff / fragment content is actually developed (currently as per any other jspx using the DataControl pallete). Or are the best-practice directives talking about a page as being the design-time / declarative composition of content rather than the run-time aggregation of page + fragments ... in which case the fact that our embedded fragments are not using nested AM's is unlikely to concern.
    Thanks,

    Probably a better question for the ADF EMG: http://groups.google.com/group/adf-methodology?hl=en

  • Best practice question for Bounded task flows

    We are new to Jdeveloper/ADF and I was wondering if we should always try to use a bounded task flow for our applications... is this considered the best way to develop an app? even the small single page ones?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    let me turn teh question around: How many tools do you have at home beside of a hammer ? In other words, its the problem you need to solve (and use cases are problems) that should determine the use of bounded task flows and its granularity. Note that for each use case the bounded task flow makes a good candidate for delivering it. Doesn't mean that every single page needs to go into its own task flow. For general bounded best practices have a look here

  • Display only current row in master detail

    Hi every body greetings. I am facing a problem in master detail. I create a record in master. After i click create button i want only that record to be displayed so that i can edit it to add detail records. Kindly help me? thanx in advance. The problem is i dont know where the record goes since all the other records are also displayed.

    Hi Michelle,
    Just wondering if you got an answer? I want to do the same exact thing - seems like a simple enough requirement and fairly intuitive flow: I am in my Master-Detail form performing a Create action and I want to add the Detail portion on the same screen rather than hit Create on the Master - then have to go back, Search for that Master record and update it in a separate action by adding the Detail.

  • Help!  After validation failure, Detail region of Master Detail page does not refresh.

    Hello.
    I am running a validation to prevent deletion of a purchase order (PO) when invoices exist for the PO.
    When the condition is found (invoices exist), the deletion process is halted and a message is posted to the page.
    I would like for both Master and Detail data of the PO to be refreshed.  However, only the Master
    record is refreshed.  I get the following error for the detail data:  The detail is found through the Master Header primary Key (DetailRecord.PO_ID = :P230_PO_ID )
    ORA:01445: Cannot select ROWID from, or sample, a join view without a key preserved table.
    ORA-06510 - PL/SQL unhandled user-defined exception.
    I'm not sure why this message should come up.  I do not clear cache or reset the page or anything like that.
    Any hints?

    Just an FYI for everybody who may have this very same problem in the future.  I fixed the error and it had nothing to do with ROWID or views or anything like that.  Under the Page Rendering section where you define the region definition under the source section, I had included the 'order by' clause in my SQL statement.  This was the cause of my ORA-01445 error!  When I removed the clause from the source definition and instead included it within the Report Attributes by checking the Sort box for the appropriate column (thus allowing APEX to generate the sort for me), the error disappeared!  The Oracle error message would NEVER have given me a clue into what caused the error.  I just happened to think 'what if I take the order by clause out'!  How's that for a flukey fix!

  • Task flow return-Current Record pointing issue.

    Hi friends
    Newbie in ADF (basically from .net back ground)...........I am in the process of developing my first module.
    I have a task flow where a master detail records are displayed ..When I click "Edit" it is calling a edit task flow where the editing of master/detail tables are performed .When I click "New" a blank record is created and it is calling same edit task flow.
    my problem is when the child task flow exits and returns to the parent it is not pointing to the current record I edited...This is true if return either by commit or cancel.
    My data control is shared , parent task flow does not have any transaction and child always starts a new transaction.
    What is the ideal solution to point to the current record when I return?.
    Thanks .
    Ashraf

    Below is updated bean code
    ViewObject VO;
    FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    DCBindingContainer bindings = (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    DCIteratorBinding iter = bindings.findIteratorBinding("Delmast1Iterator");
    VO = iter.getViewObject();
    Key currKey = iter.getCurrentRow().getKey();
    Row[] rows = VO.findByKey(currKey, 1);
    if (rows.length == 1) {
    System.out.println("row found");
    VO.setCurrentRow(rows[0]);
    iter.executeQuery();
    iter.setCurrentRowWithKey(currKey.toStringFormat(true));
    iter.setCurrentRowWithKeyValue(iter.getCurrentRow().getAttribute("SaleId").toString());
    If my child task flow does not have a commit or rollback the above code works fine...But I am beginning a transaction in my child flow(edit flow) so it is a must to have commit/rollback.
    Is there any other options experts ?..Please guide me.

  • Master Detail Question

    I have two questions that deal with a wizard generated master detail form/report. The form has the master and detail forms on the same page.
    1. When adding a row to the detail table is there a way to have it automatically fill with the values from the previous row?
    2. I added the following javascript code onBlur="javascript:{this.value = this.value.toUpperCase(); }" to the Element Attributes of one of the detail form fields to force it to upper case. It works fine as long as the field is defined as a text field. If I change the field to a Popup LOV the functions no longer works. Is there a way to have both the Popup LOV and the javascript?

    Michael...
    Not truly an answer... I'm a 'newb' with just enough experience to put his foot in mouth. Here is my thinking about your questions.
    Q#1: I don't know.
    Q#2: The script is on detail page and runs when object loses focus. LOV is separate object and knows nothing about the script. My approach: Go back to table (serving as basis for LOV) and change entries to use 'caps'. If this isn't practical, use your script in the onLoad event for the Popup LOV. (Note: I haven't done this. It just 'makes sense'. Now THAT is a phrase that will get ya in trouble!)

  • How to Create Master Detail Page with Query Region

    Hi,
    1. I have a requirement that i need to create a Master(Supplier) Detail(Supplier Site) Page with Query Region.
    Eg. Supplier A in Australia has Supplier Sites X in Melbourne and Y in Sydney.
          Supplier B in US has Supplier Sites C in New York and D in California.
    I need to have Search, based on two fields Supplier Name and Country
    Let us assume i am searching with Supplier Name A then the page should be in the below layout
    Query Region
    Supplier Name : A
    Country:
    Master
    Supplier Name  Country
        A                     Australia
    Detail
    Supplier Site  City
    X                   Melbourne
    Y                   Sydney
    In detail VO it should allow me to add new sites which means i need to connect this VO to database to insert new records
    I have gone few threads and understood that this can be achieved by creating SupplierVO, SupplierSiteVO and a ViewLink.
    But when tried i don't know how can i relate my query region with the Suppleir Table(Header Reagin and Table Using Wizard) and Supplier Site Table(Header Region and Table Using Wizard) i am not sure if i am correct or not, please advise
    2. Also i need to have a Open button in this page and if click the button it should navigate to some other page.
    Please help me how can i achieve this.
    - How to design my page with query region and master detail tables
    - what is the AM and CO code need to be handled
    - What is the code should i write in Open button to open new OAF page.

  • Master detail new line error

    Hi all, Can anyone help me with this problem?
    I have created a master detail table but have had problems with adding new detail lines.
    The detail region contains an advanced table with an addTableRow bean set in the footer. I wish to navigate to a new page when the ‘add new row’ button is selected so I have set the ‘insert rows automatically’ property to false. I have been able to capture the event in my controller and call the new page and then access the application module, however I do not seem to be able to set a property in the new child line from an attribute in the parent line.
    //in my AM I have called…
    public void CreateLine()
    //get child vo that is to have line added
    DoiLinesVOImpl vo = (DoiLinesVOImpl) getDoiLinesVO1();
    if (!vo.isExecuted()) vo.executeQuery();
    //find parent vo to determine which questionId the line relates to
    OAViewObject hvo = (OAViewObject)findViewObject("DoiDecQuestionsVO1");
    OARow hRow = (OARow)hvo.getCurrentRow();
    Number sid = (Number) hRow.getAttribute("QuestionId ");
    System.out.println ( " qid= " + qid );
    if ( vo != null)
    vo.setMaxFetchSize(0);
    Row vRow = vo.createRow();
    vo.insertRow(vRow);
    vRow.setAttribute("QuestionId",qid);
    vRow.setNewRowState(Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED);
    Initially the page was running, however it was only ever showing the id for the first line, regardless of which child table I was select add new line on. Now the new page errors and when I click on exception details the page does not show any error details
    Can anyone see anything wrong with the code in the AM or have any suggestions as to what else may be wrong. Is it actually possible to do what I am trying to do? My aim is to have a table of questions and then a table region under the detail region of each question. Either no lines, one line or multiple lines can be added under each questions details. The questions may have slightly different required fields so I would like to navigate to a new page and then back to the main page when save is selected.
    Any insights into what I am doing wrong or how I might achive my requirement would be very much appreciated.
    Mike.

    Ok, I have now got the page to stop erroring.
    I have created a new VO instance of the child EO in the application module and used the new vo in the seperate create page attributes, however when I query the current row against the parent vo I am still getting the value from the first line, not the selected parent line.

    If I wanted to create a form or report that would only display one master record and its children records on one page. What would be the best way to do this?
    The page would not support dml. Only display the data in a master/detail fashion. I tried creating a form thru the wizard but I dont need dml.
    I tried creating a report but all the data is horizental and would prefer more of a form type of layout.
    A simple illustration follows below. Above the line is the data from the master table. Below the line are the childern.

  • Visualize master-detail relationships using SQL Edge 1.2

    SQL Edge 1.2 released by Bay Breeze Software (http://www.baybreezesoft.com) is an Eclipse Rich Client application that allows users to execute SQL queries, browse schema information, and visualize master-detail relationships.
    With SQL Edge, users can use only one query to retrieve data in a master table, and then browse data in all related detail tables. Users can also insert, edit, and delete table records in the data grids.
    SQL Edge has four perspectives. The Query Perspective allows users run any SQL queries, while the Schema Perspective displays table schema information. There are two relationship perspectives. The Relationship Table View displays data in the master-detail style. The Relationship Tree View displays master table records as top-level tree nodes. The nodes can be expanded to reveal any level of related detail records. In addition, clicking any node will display the corresponding data in a detail grid.
    The following summarizes SQL Edge's major features:
    (1) Support any JDBC compatible databases.
    (2) Allow users to specify JDBC drivers at run-time, and provide wizards to help setup JDBC connections. Easy to install, and easy to setup.
    (3) SQL editor with syntax highlighting based on currently connected databases.
    (4) SQL edtior allows users to execute SQL queries asynchronously. Users can cancel the execution by click the "Cancel" button or just close the SQL Editor.
    (5) Schema perspective displays the table schema information, including column definitions, primary key, indexes, and foreign keys.
    (6) Relationship table view displays the related data in master-detail style, with master table data shown in the top grid, and all related detail table data in a list of bottom grids.
    (7) Relationship tree view displays the master table records as top-level tree nodes, and the related detail records as child nodes. Click any of these tree nodes will display the corresponding record data in a detail grid.
    (8) Allow users to insert, edit, and delete records in the master and detail grids of the relationship table view and relationship tree view.
    (9) Allow users to define master-detail relationships even between tables in different databases. This enables the relationship table view and relationship tree view to display data relationships between tables in different databases or without pre-defined foreign keys.

    Hi, Martin.
    Maybe you don't need a master detail relationship. Do you need to do changes in your detail block, or just queries?
    If just queries, you can create your second block based on a From-Clause Query, and change the QueryDataSourceName property with a When-List-Changed trigger in your T-List.
    I know this is a little vague but, without knowing what you need to do in the second block, I'm afraid to tell you more.
    Feel free to mail me directly, if you need some pointers about Forms.

  • Master detail report/form FK problem

    Anyone...anybody!!!
    I'm using APEX 4.0.1... and Oracle 10g.
    I have two tables that are linked with FK in the detail table
    Master table
    ID_ENDURGR     NUMBER --PK populated with a trigger
    KT_UMSAEKJANDI     VARCHAR2(10 BYTE)
    TIMABIL     NUMBER
    NUMER_UMSOKN     NUMBER
    HEILDARKOSTNADUR     NUMBER
    Detail table
    ID_EIGENDUR     NUMBER --PK populated with a trigger
    KENNITALA     VARCHAR2(10 BYTE)
    EIGNARHLUTI     NUMBER
    KOSTNADUR_VINNA     NUMBER
    ENDURGR_ID_FK     NUMBER -- FK on ID_ENDURGR in the master table
    If I create a application with a master detail page using the wizard, pages with a report and a tabular form are created. This works fine and the FK field in the detail table is automatically populated with the PK from the master table.
    If I create an application with a blank page an on that page create a region > form > master detail > same tables >use existing triggers > default > Edit detail on separate page ... three new pages are created: Report, master form and a detail form.
    If I create a new detail record with this application the FK field is not automatically populated.
    Why? What am I doing wrong?
    The trigger on the detail table:
    create or replace
    TRIGGER "bi_RSK_541_EIGENDUR"
    before insert on "RSK_1018_EIGENDUR"
    for each row
    begin
    if :new."ID_EIGENDUR" is null then
    select "RSK_541_EIGENDUR_SEQ".nextval into :new."ID_EIGENDUR" from dual;
    end if;
    end;
    Do I need to add something here... or what?
    Please help.

  • Master-detail table where detail is in a bounded task flow

    Dear all,
    Iam pretty much new to ADF 11g. I have the following question.
    I have a search form(using af:query) created from the View Criteria of a view. The search results are displayed in a master-detail table, since my view has the following form in the data control:
    MasterView ->DetailView
    I would like that the detail table be part of a page fragment of a region of a bounded task flow. And of course, the detail table should be refreshed every time another row is selected in the master table.
    Is this feasible? Because I find difficulties in the following areas:
    1. How to pass a parameter to the bounded task flow that will display the detail table?
    (I suppose that I will need to build a new view to display the DetailView. In the WHERE clause I will have to pass the id of the row clicked in the master table.
    2.How passing the variable to the bounded task flow of the detail table be implemented when clicking the row of the master table? In similar examples I have seen, e.g. in the ADF Code Corner, there is always a submit button that sets a pageFlowScope variable.
    Is my approach feasible or it needs a lot of ADF twisting?

    Hi,
    If you have two different regions in your page for master and details and you want to refresh the child table based on your master row selection then you can use the contextual actions. Raise an event whenever you select a row and send your master-table id as the payload. Have a handler method at the detail page and execute some logic to get the rows for the selected master record.
    I hope it helps you.
    Thanks,

  • How to use a menu model with a dynamic region and a task flow parameter

    I am using JDeveloper/ADF 11.1.2.1
    I have a menu model that changes which task flow is displayed in a given dynamic region using a backing bean. That works fine. I would like to be able to pass parameters to that task flow based on which menu item is clicked. For example: i have a task flow which shows a page where input fields are used to filter a table. Depending on the value of the task flow parameter I want to change which input fields are displayed. So i will have multiple menu items which refer to the same task flow but have a different set of parameters. I have tried using request scope variables and setting them in the backing bean for the dynamic region which works until the query is submitted at which point the request scope has changed and the value is no longer available. I have tried a number of other 'creative' approaches but have not gotten anything to work. Anyone done this before? Or have an idea on how to solve it?

    Frank,
    I did a fair bit of digging based on your suggestions and some things I found in your Oracle Fusion Developer's Guide book and I came up with something that works really well. It is fairly elegant but requires code. It would be nice if something like a setPropertyListener could be rolled into the menu model. That would make my solution completely declarative.
    Here is my solution:
    My task flow requires a the value #{pageFlowScope.type} to be set. My application has a dynamic region that is changed on the fly using a menu model. The region uses a backing bean (mainRegionManagerBean) which is in the viewScope to manage what taskflow is shown in the region. There are multiple menu items in the menu model that point to the same task flow but pass different values to the #{pageFlowScope.type} parameter. So i wired the menu items up to different methods in the mainRegionManagerBean which set the value for me. See the relevant code below.
    I would be very interested in the feedback from someone with more experience than I on my solution. Maybe there is a more elegant way...
    In the backing bean there is a primary method that was created by generating a dynamic region link which sets the task flow id and then other methods which call it and set the relevant parameters. (JSFUtils is a helper class i wrote to centralize some common tasks):
    public String shipmentTraceMasterTaskflow()
    taskFlowId = "/WEB-INF/taskflow/master/shipmentTraceMasterTaskflow.xml#shipmentTraceMasterTaskflow";
    JSFUtils.setValue("pageFlowScope.type", "");
    return null;
    public String shipmentTraceProNumber()
    shipmentTraceMasterTaskflow();
    JSFUtils.setValue("pageFlowScope.type", "pronumber");
    return null;
    public String shipmentTraceBOLNumber()
    shipmentTraceMasterTaskflow();
    JSFUtils.setValue("pageFlowScope.type", "bolnumber");
    return null;
    In the menu model (notice that these reference the different methods from above):
    <itemNode id="itemNode_ProNumberTrace" label="ProNumber Trace" action="#{viewScope.mainRegionManagerBean.shipmentTraceProNumber}" focusViewId=""/>
    <itemNode id="itemNode_BOLNumberTrace" label="BOL Number Trace" action="#{viewScope.mainRegionManagerBean.shipmentTraceBOLNumber}" focusViewId=""/>
    On the page:
    <af:region value="#{bindings.dynamicRegion1.regionModel}" id="r1"/>
    In the pagedef:
    <taskFlow id="dynamicRegion1" taskFlowId="${viewScope.mainRegionManagerBean.dynamicTaskFlowId}" activation="deferred" xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/controller/binding" Refresh="ifNeeded">
    <parameters>
    <parameter id="type" value="#{pageFlowScope.type}"/>
    </parameters>
    </taskFlow>
