Question on how does load balancing work on Firewall Services Module (FWSM)

Hi everyone,
I have a question about the algorithm of load balancing on Firewall Services Module (FWSM).
I understand that the FWSM supports up to three equal cost routes on the same interface for load balancing.
Please see a lower simple figure.

I am going to configure the following default routes on FWSM point to each MHSRP VIP (192.168.13.29 and 192.168.13.30) for load balancing.

However I don't know how load balancing work on FWSM.
On FWSM, load balancing work based on
Per-Destination ?
Per-Source ?

Other criteria ?

Configuring "tunnel default gateway' on the concentrator allowed traffic to flow as desired through the FWSM.
FWSM is not capable of performing policy based routing, the additional static routes for the VPN load balancing caused half of the packets to be lost. As a result, it appears that the VPN concentrators will not be able to load balance.

    We're migrating an old Forms 6i app to 10.1.2.0.2 (apps servers = Redhat Linux), and are starting to consider using WebCache to loadbalance between two application servers.
    My question is this - say we have apps servers A and B, both running Forms and Reports Services. We use Webcache on server A (don't have the luxury of a third apps server...) to load balance between A and B. So all initial requests come into A, which in some cases may then be diverted to start a new Forms session on B.
    For those users whose middle-tier sessions are now running on B - will all network traffic for their Forms session continue to be routed through Webcache on A, then to B, over the course of the session? Or does Webcache somehow shunt the whole connection to be straight between the client PC and server B, for the duration of that Forms session?
    If the former, does that mean that the server hosting Webcache can still be a significant bottleneck for network traffic? Have people found load-balancing with Webcache to be useful..?

  • HOW WISM LOAD BALANCING WORKS ?

    We currently have a campus with 4 WISM on 4 6509 .
    After a reload of one of these WISM, all the AP ( AIR-AP1231 ) disappear from this WISM :
    (WiSM-slot1-2) >show ap summary
    Number of APs.................................... 1
    Before the reload this WISM has 80 AP .
    The other 79 AP are now registered with another WISM .
    Is this normal or ( load balancing ) or what ?

    You have to check the primary/secondary/tertiary settings on the WLC, but for each access point. Go to the Wireless tab and click on an access point for this setting.
    AP Fallback mode is on the WLC under the Controller tab. It forces an access point to join its primary controller if possible. If it's disabled, the access point will be happy to stay on a non-primary controller until it reboots. If it's enabled, then as soon as its primary becomes available (either because it comes up or because you specify a new primary), it will join that controller.
    AP Fallback is convenient for load-balancing, but it can cause significant downtime if a controller goes down and comes back up immediately. All your APs will fail over to another controller at the initial drop, but they'll all switch back over once the original controller comes back. Each time will cause clients to drop. If a controller starts flapping for any reason, your wireless network will be seriously disrupted. Of course, if you leave it disabled and a controller goes down, all access points will hop over to their secondary controller and never go back. This isn't so bad, though, because you can just manually set it for AP fallback at a convenient time, let them all switch back, and then disable fallback again.
    If you do not active AP fallback mode, be sure to reset each AP after you give it a primary/secondary/tertiary controller. Otherwise it will sit tight on the current controller.
    Also, make sure that the Master Controller mode is disabled. This forces all access points to join it if you have no primary controller listed. It's under the Controller tab, under Advanced.

    I have a 2-node 10gR2 RAC on RHEL4. One of our web based application is connecting to the RAC database. Today, while starting up the application, one of our node(node1) was down and all the connections from the app are connected to the DB using other node(node2). There were around 120 connection from application. Again, i brought back the node1 but still, the connections were on node2 and no connection on node1.
    My doubt is, how the load balancing works in RAC? is there limit like after some number of connections, it will load balance to other node?

    If all the connections go to node 2 cause node 1 is down, then, when node 1 comes back, those connections already established on node 2 will remain on node 2. There is no mechanism to migrate existing connections. However, over time, as more connections come in, they should go to node 1. Over time, the load should balance out. But, the only way to immediately rebalance would be to force existing connections to recycle their connection.
    If one node is capable of handling the load, I wouldn't worry about it....over time, things will balance out.

    When I create an InfoSource (IS_Test)  as a “Flexible update…”  and then “Assign DataSource”  (DS_Test) and I respond Yes, to the message “DataSource assignment DS_Test to InfoSource IS_Test Save”
    a) <b>Under “Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules”</b> in the InfoSource
    1)  the “Transfer Rules” tab, what are the fields found in the right column (Assigned InfObjct-field)? And where do the fields you enter in the left column (<b>Communication Str/</b>Transfer rules) eventually go?
    2)  the “DataSource /Trans. Structure” tab, can I always assume that all the fields in the right column (DataSource) came from DS_Test? The left column (Transfer Structure), in my test was exactly the same as on the right. Where do these fields eventually go?
    b) Under “<b>Communication_Struct.”,</b> in the InfoSource
    3. the right column (ISource Fileds) where from those InfoObjects. if I am now creating my InfoSource. Where did they come from?

    As Ashish pointed out, communication structure contains fields (infoobjects) that suppose to go to data targets. Which IO in CS to which IO in the data target will go (and what transformation of data may occur) is determined in URs of the data target.
    The transfer structure is the structure in which the data is transported from the source system into BW:

    In “Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules” in the IS, DataSource /Trans. Structure” tab, right part shows fields in the Datasource, the left part – fields in the transfer structure. There is also a transfer structure in R/3 for a given DS. Transfer structure in BW is created identical to the TS in R/3 during TRs activation.
    During data load data are transferred 1:1 from TS in R/3 to TS in BW.
    TS in BW corresponds to the PSA table structure.
    How data from PSA are transferred to the CS is determined in TRs.   
    The 3rd column (“Field”) (“Transfer Rules” tab, right part (Assigned InfObjct-field)), contains field names of the DS (TS); and the 1st column shows IO in the CS to which the DS field will go. So, it’s a mapping DS filed -> CS field.
    The left part (“Communication str./Transfer rules”) is always identical to the CS content. But the 4th column (“Tp”) shows possible data transformation during transfer from PSA to CS. If this column contains a yellow triangle then there is no transformation (Value of DS field will go to value of CS field). If there is a red cross, it means that no data for this CS field is supplied from a DS. You can click on this yellow triangle and choose: 1). Another field from a DS; 2). Constant; 3). ABAP routine; 4). Formula. So, here you can determine the data transformation. Moreover, there is a possibility to create a start routine (blank sheet icon at the top).
    And finally, here are the answers on your questions:
    Q:
    a)     Under “Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules” in the InfoSource

    A: Right part shows a mapping between DS and CS fields. Left part shows CS fields and data transformation (TRs) during data transfer from TS (PSA) to the CS. These are fields in the CS that will go to data target and which are fed from a TS (DS).
    Q: 2) the “DataSource /Trans. Structure” tab, can I always assume that all the fields in the right column (DataSource) came from DS_Test?
    A: Yes, you are right.
    Q: The left column (Transfer Structure), in my test was exactly the same as on the right. Where do these fields eventually go?
    A: As I described, left and right parts are identical. These fields will go to CS.

    A: these are fields from an IS template, the name of this template you can see above this right part.  Actually, during IS (CS) creation you can choose different templates and choose fields from them transferring them into the left part.

    A: these are fields of CS (left part) and as I said before they will go to data target.

    A: CS in 4 just shows IOs that will be transferred to data target. CS in 1 also shows how values for CS IOs are to be fed and transformed.

    I am a little confused by the question (as it refers to "request"), but I am going to assume that you are asking how a High Availability Process Orchestrator environment with several servers chooses which processes running on which server.
    The answer to that question is...
    In general, processes to be executed are split equally between all servers. The only piece of data being taken into account during process instance assignment is the current load on the servers (as counted by the number of top-level processes, not counting child processes). For example, suppose that there are 3 servers in the environment, and server A is running 5 top-level processes, servers B & C are running 3 top-level processes. When new process is started (e.g. on a schedule or manually or triggered via an external event), it will be assigned to either server B or server C for execution, because servers B & C have less load. If under the same circumstances (A:5, B:3, C:3), there are 4 processes started at the same time. When the work is distributed, the total expected work 5+3+3=11 (existing work) and 4 (new work) will be distributed equally with, with servers B&C each getting 2 new processes.
    This is a general load balancing algorithms used by the servers in HA environment to decide which server runs which process instance.
    There are other factors that come into play, as some processes/activities can only run on server A or server B for technical limitations (e.g. SAP work against a particular SAP System can only be executed from one server in the environment). When those come into play, the work may end up distributed unevenly.
    Note that available memory, CPU load, or disk space on servers are not directly taken into account during load distribution.

    To add to sig's reply, "calibrating" does not calibrate Lithiu-Ion batteries, it calibrates the charge reporting circuitry.  If you look at the effect of deep discharging Lithium-Ion batteries in the data from the independent test group, Battery University, you will see that doing so shortens the life of the battery significantly. It looks like an optimum balance between use and life is at a discharge level of 50%.

    The CSS 11500 uses the ArrowPoint Content Aware (ACA) service to gather response time data for every flow for building statistical averages/variances for every service and content rule. The best servers are used, while the slow servers are pruned from the eligible list. This service also can manage persistent connections for e-commerce based on IP addresses (range), Secure Socket Layer (SSL) application IDs, and cookies.
    As you are having only 2 servers for load-balance.
    As your keepalive time is 30 sec which is quite high.
    I suppose you should change your keepalive frequency 30 to

    using the default values of a 5-second keepalive frequency interval, a 5-second retry period interval, and maximum of three failures, a service can transition from the alive state to the dead state in 15 seconds; a 5-second interval between a keepalive response and the initial keepalive failure based on the keepalive frequency, and two failures, each occurring at 5-second intervals based on the retry period.

  • How does the KKBC_HOE work?

    I've been having discussions regarding the KKBC_HOE.  In particular how does the varient work.  We have a choice to chose several different variants and order statuses.  My question is if we are to capture the true target detail for the month what Order Statues are best suited to make that report. 
    For example what happens if we just choose DLV - Delvered and TECO - Technically complate orders?
    If we choose PDLV - Partially delivered does it update the Target hours. 
    I've searched all over the internet and cannot find a complete descriptive explanation of how exactly this report works.  I'm hoping someone can provide me with some guideance. I do know you have ro run the summarization job KKRV or KKRC as well as WIP and variance calcualtion before executing the KKBC_HOE.

    Thanks for the replies.  What I have been able to determine from how we run our KKBC_HOE is that we run KKRC just for the current month.  Then we run KKBC_HOE for the current month.  The KKBC_HOE picks up all activity for the "actual" column that has occurred during that month.  But the Target column only get poppulated if the order is marked DLV or TECO. 
    To measure overall performance you really would need to run this report over several months.  Also, does anyone know if the target is taking the standard cost per unit X Planned order quantity or does it take Standard Cost X Actuall Quantity received?
    Although there is a Target line based on the actual number of cases received it seems like the rest of the report is based on the Order Planned amount.  I'm trying to figure out if we have all our switches set right for this report.

    Currently I am trying to make a little server that works as a DatagramSocket server. Whenever it receives the packet, it spawns a thread and this thread will take care of this packet. However, this thread class implements Runnable, and it has class variable of Packet. So to run the thread, I do like:
    PacketRouter rp = new PacketRouter(packet);
    Thread t = new Thread(rp);
    r.start();
    However, in PacketRouter, Packet is a class variable, which could be inconsistent when reading or updating this class variable in another thread. The situation reminds my memory of a Servlet. A container creates a new thread of my servlet to serve particular Request.
    My question is, how does the container pass this Request object down to the servlet's "service" method when run() has no parameter? Thanks.

    Sorry but it seems you did not understand Threading that well - why do you start an own Thread for each packet? A servlet-server already creates a Thread for each request - so you can have even hundreds of requests running (practically) at the same time.
    Furthermore you are in a new Thread so you can't "pass" anything down, the only thing is to wait until this thread would be finished which is ... well plain damn stupid because then you would not need a Thread.

    if there's a network error the channel may hang (for a very long time)
    if you specify 300 secs after that time the channel will reset the connection and you can start pooling again

    I have a Z program working fine, it is a SAPM07DR copy and i aggregated some fields to WASCHEIN form.
    But i see when the program (standard or copy) calls the write form, the field values in program have other values (just the previous values) than the values wich appears in the printed form.
    For example: 
    WASCHEIN KOPF Window has the WERKS value:
             Plant:    &*T001W-WERKS&
    But when the write form is called
              CALL FUNCTION 'WRITE_FORM'
                EXPORTING ELEMENT = 'KOPF'
                WINDOW            = 'KOPF'.
    In the program the *T001W-WERKS field has a different value that the value wich appears in the spool, debugging i see that the field has the prevoius value in the program:
    Program
    *T001W-WERKS
    (when Write Form).............Spool
        '     '...................................Plant:  0900
        '0900'.............................Plant:  0901
    I had to do the same logic in my new aggregated fields, but i realy don't know why does the program works in this way.
    Why the print program and sapscript function works in this way ?
    How does WRITE-FORM works, that is where the function take from the values to print ?

    (form with *T001W-WERKS)
    But the FM prints 0900 and after 0901, when the *T001W-WERKS values were '    '  and  '0900'   !!!
    (and with the *T001W-NAME1 field occurs in the same way)
    Why does the FM prints that values ??

    I need to know how does Merge dimensions work in WebI when using SAP BI Query as source?
    Below is my understanding when connection is defined for the universe on oracle database:
    1) To get the data in merged dimensions, there must be physical join (Either Direct or vai some other tables) between different tables at backend level (This means  there  must be join between tables in Oracle database.)
    2) we get the UNION of data when dimensions are merged at webI level.
    I dont know how this works in SAP BI.
    Since there is different data model defined for different BI Queries in SAP , and for each BI Query and there is seperate Universe, So how can you get correct data in WebI when there is no connections in DSO's used in different BI queries?
    Can any one suggest me the way data apperas in merged dimensions for WebI created on SAP BI?

    I assume we are only talking about merging dimensions in Web Intelligence here and not on the BW backend. this is a client side mere where you have 2 resultsets.
    if you want to do this on the BI server side it would be a multi-provider combining different InfoProviders - or a InfoSet - depending on the join type you need. MultiProvider is a union, Infoset allows you to choose
