Question related to very long term processes

I'm implementing a form in workspace that manages approvals for a real estate group. There will be a form/process for new building locations and one for renewals. The form and workflow for new buildings locations and renewals is the same - the only difference is that for renewals I want to use the same form as was initially used as the input for the process (so that the user doesn't have to rekey data). I've been puzzling over how to set this up. The approach I'm currently working on involves saving the form as a PDF and then allowing this to be injected into the renewal process from a watched folder. This is close to working, but I can see a few major problem with it; specifically 1: it requires that the user save/manage PDF documents outside of workspace 2: it will not work if the form or the form schema changes at all - and this is quite likely since the interval from the forms initial approval to its use in the renewal process could be several years.
I want to ask whether anyone can suggest a better approach. One idea that I have is to, at the end of my approval process, simply assign the form to a special "archive" work group. This assignment step would then have a route leading back to the "top" of the approval process. This would potentially give workspace users the ability to review old forms online and re-submit them. I have a few questions about whether this approach would work:
-> Would it be a problem having a workflow that basically never ends? My main concern is that I'm not clear on whether, when a workflow process is running, it take up system memory or is simply managed as a record within the database? We don't anticipate a large volume of use - only a few hundres forms a year - but I'm concerned that having hundreds of running processes could present a memory issue.
-> When the person managing the renewal assigns the work item in the "archive" queue to themselves, would it be possible to force the system to consider that individual to be the process creator? The reason that this is important is that I have a number of process steps in which the form is assigned back to the creator - but the original creator would not likely be the person initiating the renewal.
-> Would having running processes cause issues with any server upgrades/migrations, or would it be easy to migrate the running processes if we ever had to migrate to a new server or upgrade the LiveCycle software?

Hi Jeff
A long set of questions, no wonder no-one has been game to answer... :-)
Better approach? Maybe. I would extract the data from the form at the end of your first process into a database table. Then, when you start the other process, pre-populate the form from the same data. You will obviously need some kind of "primary key" to identify the old form in the new process. My 2c. If you do use the old form to populate the new, that's generally okay, as long as you only add data to the schema, not remove or change it.
The special Archive group would work. Once a task has been assigned to a user (or a group), it just sits there. It's a record in the database, it doesn't take up any memory or cpu. The group queue could get very full though, and it might be hard to find particular forms.
I think you can just assign the creator process variable to a new value. However, I also think it's probably a bad idea. Instead, just create a string variable called "new_creator" (or whatever). Assign the user id of the user who completed that task to new_creator. Then, in subsequent user steps, assign the step to Xpath instead of creator, and select /process_data/@new_creator.
Upgrades shouldn't be a problem, since the task data is stored in the database, and generally the database survives upgrades. (It would be wise to take a backup, as always:-)

  • I am a very long term customer how is now very disappointed with Verizon!

    I am writing in to give one final try at gaining a positive response from Verizon.  I called in to talk to Customer Service today with a request and was really disappointed at getting a NO for a response.   I have a family plan with 4 phones of varying contract/upgrade dates.  Mine…6/10/15. Wife’s…5/29/14.  Mom’s…6/20/13.   Son…4/11/16.  Two of the phones are past their date and thus we can upgrade without additional fees.   I will be disconnecting my mom’s phone as she hasn’t used it since 8/6 and won’t be using it as she is moving into a Memory Care facility for Alzhiemers.   Thus my request was whether there was a way to upgrade my phone and my wifes phone to the iPhone 6 without having to pay an added fee for upgrading mine early.   I asked that they take into account that my mom’s is 16 months past her upgrade date, I am 9 months from mine and we are very very long term customers. Verizon has been our cell phone company ever since we bought cell phones a long time ago.  I was told NO.    I then told the service rep that if I have to wait until 6/10/15, I have no real reason to stay with Verizon as saying no to this request just makes no sense when it is being ask by a customer of such long standing.  I was told NO again.  Even though I am clearly not a customer that hops from one cell phone service provider to another...Verizon told me NO.  Even if it costs a bit more to switch to AT & T (which it may or may not...I don't know)…on 6/11/15 my wife and I will be leaving Verizon and my son can have an individual account.

    You sign a contract promising to a 2 yr service commitment in exchange for a substantial discount on a phone. You are 9 months from completing your commitment. There is no reason for Verizon to grant your request. In fact, they may be contractually obligated to NOT do so depending on their terms for selling the iPhone negotiated with Apple.
    In the past, Verizon has been lenient(by a month or 2 but never 9 months) with approving an early upgrade, but NEVER with an iPhone. The reason for this has been hinted at being because of the contract terms Verizon has with Apple. Verizon is not going to jeopardize their ability to have iPhones on their network to satisfy your demand.
    Currently, there is a limited time offer to upgrade early with Verizon if you are eligible to get a discounted upgrade by 11/15/2014. Unfortunately you fall outside of that window.
    Good luck with the new provider, you will be unlikely to ever get an early upgrade at another provider either.

  • Question related to my previous "background process" question.

    Hello Folks:
    Can I start a "Notification Service Subscriber" process through the
    normal startup procedure for other servers---i.e. by adding it to the

    With Rahul Pal, Arpit Menaria and Krishna Kishore
    Welcome to this Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about evolution of long-term evolution (LTE) and the future with experts Rahul Pal, Krishna Kishore, and Arpit Menaria.
    LTE, commonly marketed as 4G LTE, is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. It is based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies, increasing the capacity and speed using a different radio interface together with core network improvements. The standard is developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

    Challenges Faced by operators while deploying LTE Solutions
    1.) No Global standards in LTE Spectrum Bands allocation and usage
    Operators have to support  range of spectrum bands to  support. A lower spectrum band (e.g. 1800MHz) provides better indoor  signal strength and travels further compared to one of a higher spectrum  band (e.g. 2600MHz). However, the higher spectrum bands are better  suited for covering densely-populated areas and managing heavy data  volumes due to their larger bandwidth. lower frequency spectrums are  more affordable to build and signals travel further, whereas higher  frequency spectrums require a lot of base stations to cover a similar  distance. This could very well be another possible reason why different  Operators around the world use different spectrum bands, besides the  obvious fact that they are also limited by the availability of these  bands.
    2.) Building a New or Converged Network and Backward compatibility with Legacy Networks:
    Some Operators  will build a completely new 4G network  along the existing networks. Other Operators will create a converged  network, where they try to make the different generations of  technologies work together.  In both cases, the process is highly  complex and cost intensive. The transition to 4G network will require  new radio access technology and core network expansion, while  maintaining existing 2G/3G networks alongside the new 4G network will  result in additional burden on Operators.
    LTE  is flat IP architecture so there is a need to create high capacity IP  core network to connect MME(mobility management entity) ,S-GW,P-GW.  All  the interworking nodes including non- 3GPP systems is to be  re-dimensioned. Backward compatibility is a very complex task during LTE  deployment.
    3.) Return on Investment (ROI) on 4G LTE
    The migration to LTE or upgrading of existing mobile  networks will incur high costs. Moreover, 4G LTE is expected to disrupt  the traditional business models of Operators: voice calls and SMS. On  LTE, we still don’t have Voice call Support and Proposed launch of VoLTE  is still not widely deployed and in testing phases at many places.
    With faster mobile data connectivity, consumers will be more inclined  to use services and apps such as Skype and Whatsapp for communication.  This change in consumer's usage behaviour will pose a challenge for  Operators to profit from their investments in 4G networks.
    4.) Operators have to devise new Data plans
    To justify the investments in the new 4G networks, Operators have to change their data price models.
    First, Operators will charge higher prices for their LTE offerings  compared to their existing mobile data plans and maintain a higher  quality of service to justify the higher Pricings.
    Second,.  They should implement "pay-for-what-you-use" pricing models, where  consumers are charged based on their usage behaviors.
    Third, Operators can adopt a value-based pricing model  where consumers can pay a premium for a better experience, raising the  possibility of introducing tiered service levels that guarantee certain  connection speeds.
    Biggest problem  is customer cannot relate to all data plans and  have to constantly monitor data usage to ensure that they receive high  data speeds.
    5.) Security Concerns from Untrusted Domains
    While operators can theoretically benefit from reduced  latency and greater ease of management within the LTE architecture,  there is a very real possibility that overall LTE performance will  degrade due to the high volume of transactions required to ensure that  high levels of service quality are maintained and proper policy control  decisions are implemented. Operators face significant challenges in the  area of network security as traffic in emerging architectures is  increasingly likely to flow within spheres of "trusted" and "untrusted"  networks. framework allows operators to handle security gateway  functionality.
    Within the LTE network elements, including the ability  to implement IPsec — the IP network security standard. Operators facing  this new, unfamiliar environment face a key choice: whether to rely on  the functionality provided within the standards-defined LTE network  elements to address security and other requirements or whether to adopt  standalone solutions. Cash-Strapped Operators might Opt for LTE  solutions as they need not invest separately in Security Devices and  functions.
    6.) True 4G Global Roaming is not possible unlike 3G
    Due  to the lack of harmonization of LTE spectrum bands across different  countries, it is almost impossible within the near future to support LTE  global roaming.
    To  use a LTE device for data roaming, based on the current worldwide  spectrum usage, the device needs to support at least 15 bands.  Supporting so many band on LTE handset is not possible. So 3G data  roaming for international traveler is here to stay for very long time  still we standardize LTE Spectrum Bands Globally

  • ORABPEL-05002 for long running process

    Hi everybody,
    My question is related with a long running process I have designed and which, after running for a couple of days, ends by reporting the ORABPEL-05002 error:

    ===============================================================
    Looking in the Manual Recovery screen, I can see an Activity I can recover. It's about an assign Activity where I'm doing a single boolean assignation.
    Of course, together with the ORABPEL-05002 error I got also the 'Transaction was rolled back: time out' message. Note that I have modified the transaction-timeout value to 180000. The error occurs during the night, with no heavy load of the server.
    Recovering the assign activity brings back the process in the running state.
    My process pattern:
    while (1 == 1) {
    do activity;
    wait_timeout();
    So, I have the following questions:
    1. Which is cause of this error?
    2. How may I automatically recover this lost activity? RecoveryAgent?
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Regards,
    amo

    These are the possible cause to the problem and their solutions:
    Poor performance of the dehydration database If you are using Oracle Lite as dehydration store, please switch to use Oracle 9i or 10g. If Oracle 9i/10g is already in use, check the database parameter 'process' and 'session' to make sure it can handle the expected throughput.
    OC4J has too few available connections to the dehydration database. Increase the maxConnection number of the BPELServerDataSource at the BPEL_HOME/integration/orabpel/system/appserver/oc4j/j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml (for developer edition) or IAS_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_BPEL/config/data-sources.xml (mid-tier installation).
    Size of message is too big Two ways to deal with this problem:
    Increase the transaction timeout at PEL_HOME/integration/orabpel/system/appserver/oc4j/j2ee/home/config/server.xml (developer edition) or IAS_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_BPEL/config/server.xml (mid-tier installation)
    Decrease the auditLevel from BPELConsole -> Manage BPEL Domain -> Configurations tab. Doing so will reduce the amount of data saved to the dehydration store.

  • Call long running process and return immediately

    Hi everyone,
    Here' my problem : I am calling an onDemand application process when clicking on a button. It's a very long running process; and while waiting for the response my browser stops responding (white page).
    So, is there a way to call a process and return immediately to the javascript. The process will set a field to a given value when it finishes. In javascript side, I can then check in a while boucle the value of this field to know if the process has ended.But I dont know how to return just after the application process call ...
    Thanks and best regards,
    Othman

    I presume that you can achieve that by means of a batch job.
    You can use an automatic page reload every X seconds until a certain "flag" (or similar mechanism) changes state and check it in a before header process. In the meanwhile you can display some animated GIF for instance.
    Once the processing is completed you remove the reload timer from the header or you branch to a different page using a programmatic technique like procedure owa_util.redirect_url.

  • Processing very long recordings

    Hello,
    I will have very long acquired arrays of channel data (tens, possibly hundred of megabytes sized files) that will need processing like FFT for example. Are there known standard procedures or algorithms for sequenced FFT - such long arrays are impossible to handle at once in the memory...?
    Thanks in advance,
    Roman

    Do you really need to do a single FFT on a file that's hundreds of megabytes long?
    That's a very odd requirement.
    A Gabor spectrogram will give you amplitude vs. frequency vs. time.  It basically takes a chunk, performs an FFT,  slides the "window", takes another chunk (which may overlap the previous chunk), performs an FFT, etc., etc.  That tells you not only the amplitude at a given frequency, but WHEN in the file an even occurred.
    You can do a DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) on such a file, if you really really really need to.
    For each sample:
       S = sin (2 * pi * F * t)
       C = cos (2 * pi * F * t)
       R = S *  V[i] + C * V[i] i
       RTotal = RTotal + R
    end for
       where F is the frequency you're looking for.
       t = the time of the sample (= sample # * sample period )
       V[i] is the input value for sample i.
       R is a complex number
    and at the end of the loop, Divide RTotal by N, and you have the complex coefficient ( amplitude and phase) of the signal at frequency F.
    That lends itself to processing a sample at a time, but I still question the need for it.

    I am a long-term user of Lightroom as a standalone product with a perpetual licence. As a retired person on limited income, it is very disappointing to me that Adobe have introduced the 'Creative Cloud' (CC) subscription service in order for me to be able to continue upgrading this excellent product. It will be for me too expensive at the minimum cost of £9 per month. The additional services that CC brings are personally of no relevance or usefulness. Adobe should be prepared to support existing users who are, like myself, non commercial, amateur photographers by giving them the simple opportunity to upgrade to Lightroom 6 as a standalone, perpetual licence product. As a member of a camera club I know my co-members who use Lightroom are equally disappointed by this move to a subscription-only service.

    That is possible, John, but it is only speculation on your part. Might, not will.

    There is a "Lightroom 6" upgrade available for US $79 if you have a valid license for any of the earlier versions. From what I can tell, the only difference between Lightroom 6 Full, Lightroom 6 Upgrade and LightroomCC is in the license. The download file is the same.
    Other differences - with CC you get LrMobile/LrWeb and they throw in a free copy of Photoshop too.
    Yes, but when I bought my standalone license and clicked on the "Download" button it took me to the LightroomCC page. The downloaded file is named Lightroom 6, but in the CC app the installed program is LightroomCC (2015).

    what does 'kernel bug in process suhelperd' mean in very simple terms please

    Hi,
    Any that ends in a "d" tends to be a dameon process used by the System as a whole.
    As in launchd is the process that make sure all the Extensions and Kexts that run the OS are started.
    helper would refer to a specific thing  (the info you posted offers no reference to that and I don't know off the top of my head)
    The su would probably refer to the permissions this item has at that moment in time (su is normally a Terminal Instruction allowing temporary but high level access).
    Without more info about a possible link to an action within the OS or an app it would be hard to say if it is a real concern.
    It seems to refer to a conflict.  It could be that the item is not written for the current OS, is outdated via Upgrades for instance, or written in a way that is now Protected by the way the current OS works.
    Console Messages can be helpful when you can attribute them to specific events such as a Crash Log or the Action in an App matching a Time in the Log (you generally have to be watching).

    Please check the configurtion of your system.As per your reply it seems that the work processes are not sufficient in the system.
    Hi wait time and response time  ,is  problem in the system.Either you have a lot of load on the system or you CPU's are over loaded.
    Please check the system status from st06 and look for the cpu utilisation /memory utilisation.
    SM66 to see the long running online and background jobs.
    St03n - look for the workload and wait times for all transactions.
    st02-may help in checking the memory paramaetrs.
    Hope it will help you in resolving the issue.

  • How sale forecast transfer to COPA via KSPP and not related to long term,

    Dear all experts,
    i am trying to transfer my sale forecast to COPA via KSPP. However, this is not related to product group and long term planning.
    any configuration involve?
    what is the step that i need to proceed?
    please advise.
    CJ

    I think you are misunderstood something.  The KSPP transaction is used to transfer the activity for the planned order; either long-term or short term to cost center activity type planning (in scheduled activity; and with reconciliation function, can copy to plan quantity).
    It is not related to sales forecast from COPA to SOP which KE1E t-code is used.
    For KSPP, you can set the transfer control in configuration.  Alternatively, without configuration, you can use flexible transfer (menu Environment -> Flexible transfer).  This provide that you have the master data in PP and CO setup correctly.

  • Question : Scheduling a Long Running Process in BPEL

    Hi All,
    I have a doubt regarding deployment and scheduling of a Long Running Process in BPEL console like the way we schedule a concurrent program in Oracle Apps.
    Business Scenario:
    We have developed a BPEL process to pull data from the Database, do the required transformation and then enqueue the transformed data in a queue present in another database.
    Then a Java program will pick the data from the queue and then generate an XML file and send it to FTPserver of the Trading Partners(TP's).
    We have two Trading Partners and hence the generated XML will be put into the appropriate FTP servers of the TP's.
    The BPEL processing for both the Trading Partners is identical. Only the generated XML is put in different FTP servers.
    My question here is:
    1. Since the processing is same for both the TP's, how can we use the same process for both the Trading Partners.Can we handle it in the BPEL process itself ?
    2. Is there any way to schedule the same process in BPEL console, to first run for Trading Partner TP1 and wait for say 15 mins and then run for another Trading Partner TP2 and this cycle should continue since we will be deploying it in production environment and continuous updation of the transactions will be happening in the database.
    So far my knowledge in BPEL goes, i could not find any way to schedule a process in BPEL console. If any one has come across similar scenario, please post your updates/approach which will help us in defining the architecture for our client.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Cheers

    Hi Marc,
    Thanks a Lot for ur inputs.
    Need some more clarification for quetsion no.1 in my previous post.
    From our BPEL process we are calling a package which takes the Trading Partner name as the input and some other parameters. Our BPEL process will be run for both the Trading Partners since the processing is identical.
    If we develop two different processes for both Trading Partners, then there will be locking issues in the database since both the processes will refer to the same table.
    Hence we were looking for an option where we can use the same process for both the Trading Partners. Is there any way to handle it in BPEL process.
    Your inputs will be really helpful.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Dibya

  • IMovie taking a very long time to process anything, even open

    I have 2.66ghz MacBook Pro 4GB of RAM. I figured this computer should have no problem processing and opening programs. However, when I open iMovie, it hangs for a very long time, sometimes 5 minutes. At first I thought it was just crashing but I let it go for a while and it eventually started working.
    Anyone else having this issue? Is this program really so demanding that a $3000 laptop struggles to open it? Is there any fix to this?

    No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault.  And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
    The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.

    How are you sorting the bookmarks?
    The Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) is for displaying the bookmarks in different sorting orders (hence the name Views) and doesn't sort bookmarks permanently.<br />
    In Firefox the option to sort bookmarks is only available for folders and not for individual bookmarks.<br />
    Right-click a folder to open the context menu and choose "Sort By Name" in the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager or in the side bar to sort the bookmarks alphabetically or drag bookmarks to the wanted position.<br />
    If dragging doesn't work then use Cut and Paste instead.
